Allan Stanglin Five Steps to Salvation

God Who listens and watches from heaven has never heard more arrogant lifted up with pride (the Lucifer principle) mocking of those not SUBVERTED by once-Bible colleges and claiming that they could not read.  In fact, the Spirit is defined by men like Paul and Walter Scott as OUR spirit. It becomes A holy spirit ONLY at baptism: that is where BAPTISM SAVES because we REQUEST A good conscience, consciousness or a CO-perception.  Paul in 2 Corinthians said that people can not READ the Word nor HEAR the Word when it is PREACHED by being READ in the Once-A-Week school of Christ.

God Watching the First Praise Team prophesied-fulfilled--again!

Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. In Isaiah 29 the Spirit OF Christ named performance preachers for hire, singers or instruments. This was God's PATTER of those who neither intend to teach or obey the Word, Logos or Regulative principle. In Isaiah 8 this was proof that THERE IS NO LIGHT IN THEM.

Is. 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep,
and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Is. 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

If you FELLOWSHIP with wizzards or sorcerers you must BE a sorcerer. The Jews had a covenant with death and hell: that is why it was cast down and why Bible Disciples do not use the Jacob-Cursed and God-Abandoned Levites as PATTERN.

Allan Stanglin: OK, maybe that’s a little harsh. Too judgmental, probably, Yes, we come by the “five-steps” thing naturally. It’s been handed down to us by faithful men and women
who were doing their very best with what they had to work with
        during the times they lived.

It was also handed down by The Spirit OF Christ in ONE PLACE in Romans 10.
In other places not connected with the request for the REMISSION OF SINS
and the word "Saved" never motivates self-willed hirelings to as SAVED FROM WHAT?

Strong Delusions are marked by God for us as Lying Wonders claiming that their monkeyshines is working REALLY HARD to perform the only approved form of worship. The claim to believe--probably just psychological violence to exercise self-will--that truth got  worn away by the way our eyeballs strike a text Jesus may have held in His hands.  Evolution and the uncertainty at subatomic places and at the speed of light is transmorgified into Post Modernism which says that what God left for our learning can no longer be understood.  However, for a price, they will tell you that Christ in prophecy, Jesus commanding and the facts of the New Testament connecting REMISSION OF SINS only those who are not OF the world, the Kosmos or the ECUMENICAL reign of Satan

Most teachings by the country's great Bible, and Historical scholars thouroughly equipt to speak by a life learning of Latin. Alexander Campbell schooled his children int Latin three hours each day. Without that, then and now, one is not ready to become an authoratative teacher denouncing historical and Biblical facts.

Because Allan Stanglin needs AFFIRMATION by pronouncing salvation on people who preach FAITH ONLY and call Churches of Christ a CULT, it was always--even by John Calvin and Martil Luther defining adult baptism required to say that they are calling God from the types and FULFILLMENT, LIARS.

Allan Stanglin:  It’s just a Church of Christ thing, right? The “Plan of Salvation,” also called the “Five Steps of Salvation,” is unique to us, I think. And those of us who were raised in and by the Churches of Christ know them well: Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess, Baptism

Allan Stanglin has a burr to attack the godly people who fed and feed him even though God never ordained a ROLE nor DOLE for a class called PREACHER who does not grasp that both Kerusso and Presbyter are not pastors over a secular, anti-christian institution.  God defined REST as including SKHOLE and any human institution which goes beyond a Bible Educational society is at some level a CULT.  Cult leaders get by with it because universities have been Purpose Driven to "silence the voice of the victim as the meaning of MUSIC."

Allan Stanglin: You ever wonder how that started? You ever question the validity of such a list? If you or your church were to make a list of supposed steps to salvation, what would you include? What parts of our CofC list would you leave out?

Not since reading grade 6: Allan Stanglin may get lumped with "craftsmen, singers and instrument players" John called SORCERERS and will be CAST ALIVE INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE.  He knows that no one thinks, as the "progressives" that people don't even include Jesus and His Word and command.  If Allan Stanglin AFFIRMS those who denounce anything beyond belief then He defacto leaves all of the steps off. He claims that "a" holy spirit initiates and completes the salvation.

Allan Stanglin:  Historians point back to our movement’s focus on rational thought and enlightenment thinking that characterized the mainstream culture of America at the turn of the 19th century when Stone and Campbell and others were attempting to “restore” God’s Church.

They are NOT historians nor even literate.

It was all about scientific reasoning and empirical evidence and deductive problem-solving. Society at this time was convinced that there were undeniable patterns, unalterable designs in nature and in the world that, if learned and applied, held the keys to everlasting peace and joy.

Alexander Campbell searched the Scriptures in this way and came up with what he called “the ancient gospel,” a pattern he believed was the divinely-ordained natural way to heaven.

THAT'S ONE OF THOSE LAKE OF FIRE FALSE CHARGES.

The bare bones truth said that God revealed Himself in His Word so that a rational person could understand all that He wanted us to know.  The clergy then and now justify their wage by keeping the populace ignorant. Men even spend fortunes getting SIMONIZED with "a" spirit person to guide them BUT not the ignorant laity.

The ANTITHESIS: Allan Stanglin believes that God is IRRATIONAL.

John Locke: In this state of darkness and ignorance of the true God, vice and superstition held the world;nor could any help be had or hoped for from reason, which could not be heard, and was judged to have nothing to do in the case (Refutes Calvinism):

the priests every where,
to secure their empire,
having excluded reason from having anything to do in religion.

And in the crowd of wrong notions, and invented rites, the world had almost lost the sight of the one only true God.

239. In this state of darkness and error, in reference to the "true God" Our Saviour found the world.

But the clear revelation he brought with him, dissipated this darkness;
made the one invisible true God known to the world:
and that with such evidence and energy,
that polytheism and idolatry hath no where been able to withstand it.

But wherever the preaching of the truth he delivered, and the light of the gospel hath come, those mists have been dispelled.

And, in effect, we, see that since Our Saviour's time, the belief of one God has prevailed and spread itself over the face of the earth. For even to the light that the Messiah brought into the world with him, we must ascribe the owning, and profession of one God, which the Mahometan religion hath derived and borrowed from it.

So that, in this sense, it is certainly and manifestly true of Our Saviour, what St. John says of him, I John iii. 8, "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." This light the world needed, and this light it received from him: that there is but "one God", and he "eternal, invisible;" nor like to any visible objects, nor to be represented by them....

God, out of the infiniteness of his mercy, has dealt with man as a compassionate and tender Father. He gave him reason, and with it a law,
that could not be otherwise than what reason should dictate,
unless we should think, that a reasonable creature, should have an unreasonable law.

Allan Stanglin:  According to Campbell, it all boiled down to, in this order: gospel facts (death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Christ), faith, repentance, reformation (of life), baptism, remission of sins, reception of the Holy Spirit, sanctification, resurrection of the saints, and eternal life. In that order. Campbell claimed that all Christian denominations believed in all these steps, but put them in different orders according to their own interpretations or theories of conversion.

Allan does not know what Alexander Campbell taught.  Under Regeneration he wrote

Cain, the first-born of Eve, was in nature the image and [220] likeness of him that begat him. Education failed to improve him, while Abel, his younger brother, obtained the excellency which faith in God's promise alone bestows. The first-born, it will be conceded, was at least equal to his younger brother; and who can plead that in nature he excels Eve's eldest son?

Man in his ruins is, however, a proper subject of a remedial system. He is susceptible of renovation. Therefore God has placed him under a regenerating economy. This economy contemplates the regeneration of the whole human constitution, and proposes as its consummation the transformation of spirit, soul, and body. The destiny of the regenerate is described by Paul in one sentence: - "As we now bear the image of the earthly Adam, we shall then bear the image of the heavenly Adam."

God's own Son is proposed as a model. Conformity to him in glory, honor, and immortality, as the perfection of the regenerate, is the predestination of him who speaks of things that are not, as though they were.

Regeneration is, therefore, moral and physical: or, in other words, there is now a renovation of the mind - of the understanding, will, and affections - and there will hereafter be a renovation of the body: - "For this corruptible body shall put on incorruption, and this mortal body shall put on immortality."

The New Birth or Regeneration is historically connected only to Baptism: that is where BAPTISM ultimately saves FROM SIN because THAT is Christ's Instrumental Means of requesting what Campbell called A holy spirit--our's.

Allan Stanglin: At about the same time, Walter Scott came up with a biblical pattern and called it “the gospel restored.” He had six points originally. The first three were what humans had to do to be saved: believe, repent, and be baptized. The last three were what God promises to people who do the first three: forgiveness of sins, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and eternal life. Not too much later, Scott shortened his list to five points — one for each finger on a person’s hand, for easy remembering: faith, repentance, baptism, forgiveness of sin, and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Scott was teaching children and giving them a good way to remember the absolutely Scriptural pattern. Allan has not read Walter Scott or the thousands of godly elders in the world. A faithful Church of Christ reads SCRIPTURE and comes to the same conclusion that the Campbells' and others when they grasped that SCRIPTURE was the commanded and only resource.

Scott defined "the gift of the holy spirit" as OUR spirit which is A holy spirit after "our sins have been washed away." Peter calls this A good conscience.

Speaking of the instrumental-trinitarian idolatry at Mount Sinai
Rom. 10:7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

Rom 10:8 But what saith it?
The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth,
and in thy heart: that is,
the word of FAITH[rhema or spoken LOGOS: the Regulative Principle]
        which we PREACH;

Rom 10:9 That if thou
shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart
that God hath RAISED him from the DEAD,
        thou shalt be saved.

RECYCLE ONE
Rom 10:10 For with the heart
        man believeth unto righteousness; and
with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Faith makes a God fearing person have the right standing: not ceremonially impure
But, Confession is unto salvation.  Faith only would not save you says this verse.

RECYCLE TWO
belief, call upon the name, must believe, must hear, preachers must be sent:
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith,
        Whosoever BELIEVETH on him
        shall NOT be ASHAMED.

Now, NOT ASHAMED is not the opposite of BEING SAVED (by faith only).

Rom 10:12 For there is NO DIFFERENCE between the Jew and the Greek:
Rom 10:13 for the SAME Lord over all is rich unto all THAT CALL UPON HIM.
For whosoever shall CALL upon the NAME of the Lord shall be saved.

Peter preached this in Acts 2: God calls us and we call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. When they asked what must WE DO to be saved, Peter commanded them to repent AND be baptized FOR or in order to the remission of sins.

WHAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD
Example One. Acts 2:38 baptism is into the NAME or calling upon the name.
Example Two. Acts 22:16 Baptism washes away sins because it CALLS upon the Name.
Example Three: 1 Pe 3:21 Baptism saves because it ASKS for A good conscience or A holy spirit.
How then shall they call on him in whom
        They have not BELIEVED? and

how shall they believe in him of whom they have not HEARD? and
how shall they hear without a PREACHER (Kerusso Herald)? Rom 10:14

SEEMS THAT CALVIN IS CORRECT: NO ONE HEARS THE SPIRIT OR BELIEVES WITHOUT HEARING THE WORD.

Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach (Go and herald),
except they be SENT? as it is written,
How beautiful are the FEET of them that
reach the gospel of peace, and BRING glad tidings of good things

NOW NOTICE THAT HE THAT OBEY THE GOSPEL IS THE ONE WHO HATH BELIEVED.  Preachers are only those SENT.

But they have

not all OBEYED the GOSPEL. For Esaias saith, Lord,
who hath BELIEVED our report? Rom 10:16

So then FAITH cometh by HEARING, and hearing by the WORD of God
. Rom 10:17
But I say, Have they not heard?
Yes verily, their sound WENT INTO all the earth,
and their words unto the ends of the world. Rom 10:18
But I say, Did not Israel know?
First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people,
and by a foolish nation I will anger you. Rom 10:19
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not;
I was MADE MANIFEST unto them that asked not after me. Rom 10:20
        But to Israel he saith,
All day long I have stretched forth my HANDS
unto a DISOBEDIENT and GAINSAYING people. Rom 10:21

You are an APISTOS or believeth not which means treacherous if you do not believe that
He that believeth and is baptized SHALL BE saved.

Allan Stanglin:
As with most good things, we swung the pendulum a bit too far. Pretty soon, we were taking God’s initiative and the Holy Spirit’s active participation clear out of the conversion process.

Preaching became all about proving “facts” with arguments and evidence. The Holy Spirit’s work in the past had been entered into the Biblical record and was there to be studied in a rational manner, but it wasn’t necessary for a person’s salvation. The emphasis was on logical fact-finding and step-following and persuading people to “obey the gospel.”

Prepositions 101: The Spirit OF God is the Spirit or Mind OF God and never a "people" who speaks to postmoderns.

John 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:
the WORDS that I speak unto you, they are SPIRIT, and they are life.

The command is to SPEAK and never to SING: We are to be filled with the WILL OF GOD or SPIRIT in Ephesians 5 but in Colossians 3 Paul makes it impossible to be mistaken: He calls it the WORD OF CHRIST. That is the LOGOS and that means REGULATIVE PRINCIPLE and outlaws all that you do as religious OBSERVATIONS to which the kingdom will not come.

That is why Jesus spoke and commanded ONLY what the Father breathed (spirit) into Him. Jesus became the "double edged sword" of God's Spirit by commanded exactly what we are to observe and teach.

Those who MOCK the Regulative Principle Mock and are ANTICHRISTS.

It is God who works to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Rom. 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,

Phil. 2:12Wherefore, my beloved,

        his servants ye are to whom ye obey;

or of obedience unto righteousness? Rom 6:16

But God be thanked,
that ye were the servants of sin,
but ye have obeyed from the heart
that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Ro.6:17

Being THEN made free from sin,
ye became the servants of righteousness. Rom 6:18

Allan Stanglin:  It is God who initiates salvation, who begins the good work and sees it through to completion. Belief and repentance and confession are salvation steps to be taken every day, not once on a ladder list of human accomplishments.

Calvin says that God must work TWO supernatural operations to enable us:
        God gave us His WORD
And He SENT evangelist to PREACH it.

John Calvin Calls such people fanatics

1.The fanatics wrongly appeal to the Holy Spirit

Those who, rejecting Scripture, imagine that they have some peculiar way of penetrating to God, are to be deemed not so much under the influence of error as madness. For certain giddy men have lately appeared, who, while they make a great display of the superiority of the Spirit,

reject all reading of the Scriptures themselves, and deride the simplicity of those who only delight in what they call the dead and deadly letter. But I wish they would tell me what spirit it is whose inspiration raises them to such a sublime height that they dare despise the doctrine of Scripture as mean and childish.

If they answer that it is the Spirit of Christ, their confidence is exceedingly ridiculous;since they will, I presume, admit that the apostles and other believers in the primitive Church were not illuminated by any other Spirit. None of these thereby learned to despise the word of God, but every one was imbued with greater reverence for it, as their writings most clearly testify.

Again, I should like those people to tell me whether they have imbibed any other Spirit than that which Christ promised to his disciples. Though their madness is extreme, it will scarcely carry them the length of making this their boast.

But what kind of Spirit did our Saviour promise to send? One who should not speak of himself, (John 16: 13,)

but suggest and instil the truths which he himself had delivered through the word.
Hence the office of the Spirit promised to us, is not to form new and unheard-of revelations, or to coin a new form of doctrine, by which we may be led away from the received doctrine of the gospel, but to seal on our minds the very doctrine which the gospel recommends.

CONFESSION BEGINS SOMETIMES FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS: THAT'S A LOGICAL STEP:

Matt. 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Luke 7:29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans,
justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
Luke 7:30ASV But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves
the counsel of God, being not baptized of him

John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: In Isaiah 29 and Ezekiel 33 the Spirit OF Christ named performance preachers for HIRE, singers or instrument players.

But the Abilene Kingdom still insists that they have "a" spirit inside of them. The only personified spirit is of that of Apollon-Abaddon the LEADER of the Musical Worship team.

Allan Stanglin:  And I’m grateful for it. Seriously. But I’m also so glad that we’ve recognized the many shortcomings
in this kind of incomplete view of salvation.
I’m so glad that we’re acknowledging together
the active role of God’s Spirit in the calling and saving and sanctifying of the saints.

And I’m glad we can change. I’m so glad, by God’s grace, we’re allowed and even compelled to change.

Peace, Allan
