THE “ETHICS” AND THE “METAPHYSICS” OF MUSIC
Music acts
upon human beings, on their nervous systems and
their vital processes: in 1849 Liszt wrote a song,
“Die Macht der Musik” to a text by the Duchess Hele`ne d’Or
le ́ans:MUSIC paying tribute to its own capacities.
This power—
which poems and colors possess occasionally and indirectly— is
in the case of MUSIC particularly immediate, drastic,
and indiscreet: “it penetrates to the center of the
soul,” Plato says, “and gains P0SSESSION of the soul
in the most energetic fashion,” ...Music
Schopenhauer,
on this point, echoes Plato.
By means of massive irruptions,
[overtones]
MUSIC takes up
residence in our intimate self
and seemingly
elects to make its home there.
The man inhabited and possessed by this intruder,
the man ROBBED
of a self, is no longer himself:
he has become nothing
more than a vibrating string, a sounding pipe.
He trembles madly under the bow or the fingers of
the instrumentalist;
and just as
APOLLON fills the Pythia’s lungs,
so the organ’s
powerful voice
and the harp’s gentle
accents take possession of the listener.
This
process, at once IRRATIONAL and SHAMFUL,
takes place on the margins of truth,
and thus borders more
on magic than on empirical science.
Something
that wants to persuade us with singing,
rather than
convince us with reason,
implements an art of
pleasing that addresses the passions,
that is, one
that subjugates in suggesting and that enslaves the
listener
through the
fraudulent and charlatan power of melody,
weakens him through harmonic
glamour or the fascinations of rhythm.
To
accomplish this, the process does not tap the logistical
or governing aspects of the mind
but rather engages the
mind’s entire psychosomatic element.
If mathematical
discourse is thinking that wishes to make
itself comprehensible
to other
thought by becoming transparent to it,
a harmonic modulation is an act
that
expects to influence a being;
and by “influence” one must also
understand a clandestine causality,
just as in
astrology or sorcery: illegal maneuvers,
black arts.
The
magical induction becomes a seduction and
thus trickery,
and an ADULT
refuses to be captivated,
resisting the
beliefs suggested to him by the auletic. [piper?]
A woman
who persuades solely by means of her presence
and its perfumes,
that is, by the magical
exhalations of her being,
the night that
envelops us, MUSIC, which secures our
allegiance
solely through the Charm
engendered by a TRILL or an ARPEGGIO,
will therefore be
the object of a deep suspicion.
Being
BEWITCHED is not worthy of a rational
person.
Just as a MASCULINE
Will insists that its decisions
are made on concrete grounds—
and will never admit a preference founded in
emotion—
so MASCULINE Reason will
never admit itself prone to seduction.
What is science for if not to sustain us against the
intoxications of night
and the TEMPTATIONS
exercised by the ENCHANTRESS appearance?
Shawn.Frazier.Musical.Praise.Minister.html
Music, the sonorous phantasm, is the most
futile of mere appearances,
and
appearance, which with neither the force to probe
nor
any intelligible determinism
is
nonetheless able to persuade the DAZZLED
fool,
is in some way the objectification
of our weakness.
A man who has sobered up, a demystified
man,
does not forgive
himself for having once been
The dupe of
misleading powers; a man who is abstaining,
having
awakened from his nocturnal exhilaration,
BLUSHES [demons can't blush] for having given in to
dark causality.
Once morning has returned,
he
disowns the pleasurable arts themselves,
along with his
own skills of pleasing.
Strong and serious minds, prosaic and positive minds:
maybe their prejudice
with regard to MUSIC comes from sobering up.
In the presence of the SCABROUS power un leashed
by MUSIC,
a number of attitudes
are possible.
We can distinguish three: the right of use and
enjoyment, passionate resentment, and refusal pure and
simple.

INSTRUMENTAL OR METRICAL SOUNDS IS THE "WEAPON" USED TO INDUCE
ALL MIND ALTERING: IT DEFINES SORCERY OR WITCHCRAFT. That is
because even Clay Tablets through Modern medicine knows that
music arouses because it induces endorphins or other chemical
attacks. Such sounds facilitate false teaching. Literature
note that people who collect you for music intend to hurt you.
Anhedonia: Is the
inability to feel pleasure. Civilized Greek society understood
not to expose of child-bearing age [Saved in Childbearing] to
anxiety which comes, according to Paul, with teaching duties
or anything. Anhedonia is very commpon with DEPRESSION or any
mental problem. So-Called Worship Operations (Lying wonders)
is a hotbed and cause of many problems. Jesus called it
a "laded burden" such as singing and Paul called it
Self-Pleasure or anxiety created by all rhetorical, musical or

Paul defines that as a
STRONG DELUSION or "claiming to replace God."
It is a STRONG DELUSION
that God ever commanded a DAY for worship.
It is a STRONG DELUSION that God ever commanded any

It is a STRONG DELUSION to claim that Jesus died in vain unable

It is a STRONG DELUSION that God ever authorized ANY

It is a STRONG DELUSION to claim that God commanded

MOST WARS DURING RECORDED HISTORY ARE OVER TURF BATTLES BETWEEN
MEN INVENTING WORSHIP RITUALS FOR SALE.
You don't know and will probably never accept that NO THEOLOGIAN
can grasp that God never permits a DAY OF WORSHIP. Sabbath
means REST and outlaws even sending out ministers of God. The
Greek PAUO or REST condemnes anything you do CLAIMING
superiority to God.
The word MISSIONAL is a fabricated LIE WORD for people who want
more of your NEVER AUTHORIZED tithes and offerings.
Since the garden of Eden Cain-like men have profiteered out of
claiming to INTERCEDED with the gods to get you a message.
The development
both of religion and of the arts can be
traced back in a continuous line to the hunting era. The group ritual
of the primeval tribesmen were the origin not only of all religious
ceremonial, but also of the drama
and of poetry and music,
while magic gave birth to
the visual arts." (Parkes,
Henry Bamford, On Gods and Men, p. 30).
"Awed by the mysteries
of his
own spirit no less than
by those of nature, primitive man was likely to
attribute to divine
influence any abnormal emotional state, whether above or below the usual level.
Medicine men customarily went into states of trance in which they were believed to be in communication
with the gods, and many tribes supposed lunatics and sexual
deviants to be divinely
possessed.
Beating on animal skins or twanging a
harp string could easily be sole as a message from a
god. It still works. Musical instruments were sold as
"gods" or the houses of gods.
Fool also called JESTER, a comic
entertainer whose madness or
imbecility, real or pretended, made him a source of
amusement and gave him license to abuse and poke fun at
even the most exalted of his patrons. Professional
fools flourished from
the days of the Egyptian pharaohs until well into the
18th century, finding a place in societies as diverse as
that of the Aztecs of Mexico and the courts of medieval
Europe.
Often deformed, dwarfed, or crippled, fools may
have been kept for luck
as well as for amusement, in the belief that deformity can avert
the evil eye and that abusive
raillery can transfer ill luck from the abused
to the abuser. Fool
figures played a part in the religious rituals of
India and pre-Christian Europe, and, in some
societies, such as that of Ireland in the 7th century
BC, they were regarded as being inspired with poetic
and prophetic powers.
The raillery of the fool and his frequent ritual
association with a mock
king suggest that he
may have originated as a sacrificial
scapegoat substituted
for a royal victim.
A resemblance between
the sacrificial
garments of ancient
ritual and the costume of a household jester in the Middle Ages--coxcomb, eared hood, bells, and
bauble, with a motley coat--has been noted.
In most early
societies, moreover, men evolved techniques for deliberaly inducing the abnormal forms of consciousness in which they supposed themselves to achieve union with divine power, sometimes by the use of drugs and other
physiological stimuli, sometimes by hypnotic dances and music. The wild utterances to which they gave
vent on such occasions were regarded as the words of a
god and were interpreted as divine commands or
predictions of future events." (Parkes, p. 32-33).
"Like most primitive
peoples, the Israelites had always believed in
inspiration, interpreting any disturbance of normal consciousness and self-control
as due to spiritual
agencies. During their
early history, as can be seen from stories in the books
of Judges and Samuel, not only the rhapsodic utterances of priests and poets but also the babblings of maniacs were attributed to a divine spirit.
Prophecy gradually
became professionalized, and the schools
of prophets, who had
developed techniques for the deliberate inducement of
states of derangement
by means of music and dances and of alcohol and possibly other drugs,
earned money by helping peasants to find lost
articles, performing miraculous cures, and advising
kings about the will of Jehovah. This tradition seems
to have been stronger in the northern kingdom,
where the orgiastic
fertility cults
were more deeply rooted; its rulers apparently
mantained large bodies of hired ecstatics to encourage
their subjects with
suitably propitious oracles on the eve of a war or
some other moral cricis.
"Among more
sophisticated persons it was recognized that many of the
prophets were merely lunatics and that their utterances were misleading;
but the popular assumption of divine guidance was not
readily abandoned." (Parkes, Henry Bamford, Gods and Men
The Origins of Western Culture, p. 106, Knopf)
JESUS DEFINED HOLY SCRIPTURE AS THE WRITING PROPHETS AND OTHER
PROPHECIES CONCERNING ME. Even when you commercial
grade worship center is based on the Jewish monarchy, there is
still not a single example of people WORSHIPING by any of the
performed ACTS. Spiritual worship involves SPEAK or READING
that which is written for our learning
Litteral worship means to FALL ON YOUR FACE in reverence and
Godly Fear. Worship IN the human spirit (place) demands that
both male and female LEARN IN SILENCE.
Institutions built on the foundation of human ambition are still
the works of FANATICS. However, most attendance is made up
of people wanting to see the spectacle. Spectators saw the
Instrumental-Trinitarian-Perverted worship at Mount Sinai as a
LAUGHINGSTOCK.
An Assembly of Christ is defined inclusively and exclusively by
the Prophets. The present spawn of Theologians deny that the
prophets had the church in mind and slander Jesus for thinking

PROOF
ONE: Why OTTER CREEK AND
ITS LEADERS ARE NOT CHRISTIANS AND CANNOT EVER BE
SAVED.
John 8:28 Then said Jesus unto
them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man,
then shall ye know that
I am he, and that I do nothing of myself;
but as my Father hath
taught me,
I SPEAK
these things. [Speak or Read is to
exclude the Gender-conflicted]
John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me:
the Father hath not
left me alone; [Jesus in
STATE of Holy Spirit]
for I do always
those things that please him.
John 8:30 As he SPAKE
these WORDS, many
believed on him.
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those
Jews which believed on him,
IF ye continue in my WORD, THEN
are ye my disciples indeed;
and the truth [word logos] shall make
you free.
The operators of Otter Creek do not
qualify for the definition of Jesus.
The Word or Logos is not and cannot be a
God: God's Word has the same meaning as HIS light or
life. LOGOS is god's regulative principle which
heaps BURNING on all who are ANTI-LOGOS.
The Word or Logos is used to REPUDIATE
Hermes who was the Pagan gender-conflicted god of
merchants, thieves and liars. He is KAIROS used as
a pattern for new PLANTS. He was the messenger or
intercessor of all Cults which go beyong the Ekklesia or
a School of Christ.
God's WORD or LOGOS consists of
inclusive and exclusive things connected with how God

A deeper-reaching
attempt to explain the significance of the castrato
age has been made by Moses (1960) in an interesting paper
on the psychology of the castrato voice. He
interprets the emergence of this vocal fashion as the
fulfillment of an age-old dream wish of bisexual
hermaphroditism. Even if one does not follow Moses
in some of his somewhat overdrawn conclusions, there is
left enough of a solid basis for his theory. Hermaphroditic
mythology plays an important part in cultural
history. In collections of primitive art one sometimes see
sculptures of idols each with female breasts and a
penis
Voices mirror
not only individual characters but the spirit
of a period as well. In this sense the voice of the
castrato personifies the bisexual ideal with its
unity of a female voice in a man's body. In the
mythological atmosphere of the baroque opera the castrato
portrayed gods and mythological
persons who presented male and female characteristics in a
vocal hermaphroditic combination.
In an unfinished
book that Paul Moses left at his death he predicted,
over ten years ago, quite correctly the approach of another
age of crossover of the sexes.
The young generation of today favors fashions that
obliterate the differences between the sexes. Girls wear
pants, and young men sport girlish long hair and wear
necklaces and bracelets. The classical love song of the
nineteenth century, the love-centered operettas, and the
popular songs of the "June-moon" variety of the first
half of this century have given way to the harsh
rhythms of rock and roll of the unisex
generation. And the phoniatrist sees among his patients
an increasing number of young adult
males who do not use the deep masculine voice
that the pubertal growth of the larynx offers but
continue to speak in an artificial high pitch of
almost female sound. Friedrich

Delitzsch on Psalms: Moreover,
we must take into consideration the facts that the
compass of the tenor extends even into the soprano,
that the singers were of different ages down to twenty

even Jewish, song is fond of falsetto singing.
We therefore adopt Perret- Gentil's rendering, chant

Mestral's, en soprano; whereas Melissus' rendering,
"upon musical instruments called Alamoth (the Germans
would say, upon the virginal)," has nothing to commend
it.

times of the later monarchy the effeminate gallants of israel, reeking with perfumes, and
stretched upon their couches of ivory, were wont at their
banquets to accompany the song with the tinkling of the
psaltery or guitar (Am. v1. 4-6), and amused
themselves with devising musical instruments while their nation
was perishing... music was the legitimate expression of
mirth and gladness, and the
indication of peace and prosperity." (Smith's Bible

The PATTERN for the Church in the Wilderness and never changed.
From the Golden Calf: The Canaanites were under Assyro-Babylonian
dominance from 3000 to 1700 BCE. Even by circa 1400 BCE,
their influence was still so great that all correspondence
with Egypt and the Pharaoh was conducted in Babylonian, and
the name of the moon-god Sin formed the basis for
the Canaanite names Sinai and the wilderness
of Sin (ERE, Vol. 3, p. 183). The hand of Sin was
seen in the cause of Catatonia or madness in
children - hence, lunacy is associated with this
deity (ibid., p. 527). Sin moon-god of Harran was
also worshipped at Sam'al at the foot of Mount Amanus
(ibid., Vol. 2, p. 295). Sin was the Baal of Harran mentioned
in the correspondence at the time of Sennacharib, Esarhaddon
and Ashurbanipal. Sargon (722-706 BCE) confirmed the
exemption Harran enjoyed from taxes as the city of Sin
(ibid.). Nabonidas last king of Babylon (555-539 BCE)
rebuilt the temple of Sin at Harran. Sin became
identified with Be'el-shamin the owner of the
sky from the Syrian dominance at Harran
combining the Syrian god with the ancient moon-god.
This deity was identified with Zeus by the Greeks
from Phoenicia and Palmyra and elsewhere enjoying
their patronage and spread from Mesopotamia into Armenia.
Ultimately, he became identified with Anu, Lord of
Heaven of Babylon (ibid., Vol. 2, p. 295). [Zeus is the
"father" of Kairos of the NEW musical and trinitarian
sect]
From the earliest times
(c. 4000 BCE), there were triads formed of Enlil,
Anu and Enki. The second triad was formed
from Ur, moon-god of Ur, Utu sun-god of
Sippar, and Nana goddess of Erech (ibid., p. 296).
The moon-god of Ur can be identified with Sin. The Semitic
term Bel was used among the Babylonian
Semites derived from Baal in the same sense as
it was used by the other Semites and in addition
used it as master or lord (ibid.).
The Israelites rose up
in PLAY or musical idolatry at Mount Sinai: the trinity was

-Galli Harpers (Galloi, in post-classical authors

whose worship, so far as it can be traced historically, had its
original seat in Phrygia (Marmor Parium, ap. C. Müller,
Fragm. i. 544, where it is placed under the reign of
Erichthonius, king of Attica, B.C. 1506; Strabo, x. pp.

derived from Phrygian localities; Kubelēn apo tou topou, Diod.iii.
58). The Phrygian language was Indo-European, as
appears from the extant inscriptions (Rawlinson's Herod.
vol. i. App. 666); and the worship of Cybelé has been
thought to be also IndoEuropean; Avestan names have been traced
in it —Berecyntus=Berezat; Corybantes=Gereuantô
(Labatut in Rev. Numism. Belge, 1868, p. 286). Other
names, however, are of distinctly Semitic affinities; Rhea
perhaps=the Babylonian Ri (Mulita
or Mylitta), and Nana more certainly=the Babylonian Nana,
modern Syrian Nani.

From the land of Asia,

god Bacchus1.

Plutarch Marcus Antonius on EPHESUS
XXIV. But when he was once
come into Asia, having left Lucius Censorinus governor in
Greece, and that he had felt the riches and
pleasures of the east parts, and that princes, great lords,
and kings, came to wait at his gate for his coming out: and
that queens and princesses, to excel one another, gave him
very rich presents, and came to see him, curiously setting
forth themselves, and using all art that might be to shew
their beauty, to win his favour the more (Caesar in the mean
space turmoiling his wits and body in civil Wars at
home,
Antonius living merrily and quietly
abroad), he easily fell again to his old LICENTIOUS life.
For straight, one
Anaxenor, a player of the cithern ,
Xoutus, a player of
the flute,
Metrodorus a tumbler,
and such
a rabble of minstrels
and fit ministers for the pleasures of Asia
(who in fineness and flattery
passed all the other PLAGUES he brought with him out of
Italy),
all these flocked in his court, and bare the whole sway: and
after that all went awry.
For every one gave themselves to riot
and excess, when they saw he delighted in it: and all Asia
was like to the city Sophocles speaketh of in one of his
tragedies:
Was full of sweet perfumes and pleasant
songs,
With woeful
weeping mingled there-amongs.
For in the city of EPHESUS,
women, attired as they go in the feasts and sacrifice of
Bacchus, came out to meet him with such solemnities and
ceremonies as are then used:
with men and children
disguised like fauns and satyrs.
Moreover, the city was
full of ivy, and darts wreathed about with ivy,
psalterions
flutes, and howboyes;
The melodious noyse of
trumpets and howboyes;
The musicall instruments
of schalmes, howboyes and sicklyk;
and in their songs they called him
Bacchus, father of mirth,
courteous and gentle:
and so was he unto some,
but to the most part of
men cruel and extreme.
For he robbed noblemen and gentlemen of their goods,
to give it unto vile
flatterers: who oftentimes begged living men's goods, as
though they had been dead,
and would enter their
houses by force.
As he gave a
citizen's house of Magnesia unto a cook, because (as it is
reported) he dressed him a fine supper.
In the end he doubled
the taxation, and imposed a second upon Asia.
JOHN MARK HICKS: This
is a guest post by Becky Frazier who is the Missional
Discipleship Minister for the Otter Creek Church
of Christ in Brentwood, Tennessee. She delivered this
message over ZOOM for the All Saints Church of Christ in
Nashville, Tennessee on October 10, 2020
"Missional" is a fool-you word because
it has little to do with missionary. Paul in
Romans 10 says that a PREACHER MUST BE SENT.
Missional hallucinates that there are prophets and
apostles in their sect who hear the true Word of God.
Philodemus considered it paradoxical that music should be
regarded as veneration of the gods while musicians were paid
for performing this
so-called veneration.
Again,
Philodemus held as self deceptive
the view that music mediated
religious ecstasy. He saw
the entire condition induced by the noise of cymbals and tambourines
as a disturbance of the spirit.
He found it
significant that, on the whole,
only
women and effeminant men fell into this folly.
Accordingly, nothing of value could be attributed to
music;
it was no more than a slave of the sensation
of pleasure,
which satisfied much in the same way that food and
drink did.

APOLLON AND THE "GRACES"
Becky will say that they were really worshiping the LORD
(yhwh) the only GOD (Elohim). However, Verse 1 proves that
they were were not aware because they refused to listen.
Ex. 4:5 That they may believe
that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
Ex. 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto
Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH
was I not known to them.
In Greek myth, Apollo was the son of
Zeus, a sky-god and the Twin of Artemis, goddess of the hunt
and of the moon. Just like Artemis, he carried a bow and
arrow which he used to cause destruction. As the goddess
Athena watched over Apollon at the battle of Troy, she
titled Apollon as the Striker From Afar.2
This is similar to the Biblical John’s
writing that tells how Apollyon is from a bottomless pit
of destruction. Apollo was known as the twin of
Artemis and he had also been referred to as the Striker from
Afar (as found in the Hymn to Apollon).
When the worship of Apollo was
Romanized, adopted by the roman people, he took on an
additional title of Apollon Luciferos. Many
other Roman gods also took this surname to denote their
powers of being a light-bringer. The root of this name
belonged to the Greek Phosphorus and eventually the Roman
Lucifer.3
The public worship of Apollo in
the Mediterranean was in direct competition with the
development of Christianity, allegedly during the time that
John wrote revelations. The use of the name Apollyon within
the bible, as the ‘Angel of the Pit’ was a direct
association with this Greek god Apollo as a Satan,
an adversary to Christianity4
The LOCUSTS
or MUSES were/are Apollyon's Musical Worship Team. They
are well documented as harlots.

De Iside and Osiris
On the second of these days Arueris was
born whom they call Apollo, and some call him also the
elder Horus. On the third day Typhon was born,
but not in due season or manner, but with a blow he broke
through his mother s side and leapt forth.
There is also a tradition that Osiris and Arueris were
sprung from the Sun, Isis from Hermes,7
and Typhon and Nephthys from Cronus. For this reason the kings
considered the third of the intercalated days as inauspicious,
and transacted no business on that day, nor did they give any
attention to their bodies until nightfall. They relate,
moreover, that Nephthys became the wife of Typhon8;
but Isis and Osiris were enamoured of each other9
and consorted together in [p. 35] the
darkness of the womb before their birth. Some say that Arueris
came from this union and was called the elder Horus by the
Egyptians, but Apollo by the Greeks.
PAGAN TRINITY IS ALWAYS FATHER, MOTHER (SPIRIT) AND EVIL SON.
Apis
the golden calf or calves represented Osiris, Isis and
Horus: the pagan trinity of father, mother and son.
Horus was
the posthumous son and heir of the god Osiris,
the primordial king and giver of life. He was invited by
his uncle, Seth, to spend a day. Seth’s real motive was
not to show him hospitality but to disqualify him
from inheriting his father’s royal power. To this
end, while Horus slept Seth committed an act of sodomy
upon him. Since sodomy was inflicted as a punishment
on a defeated enemy and was a symbol of
domination, Seth could then claim that he had conquered
Horus and demand the kingship in his place.
Historically,
the rape of males was more widely recognized in ancient
times. Several of the legends in Greek mythology
involved abductions and sexual assaults
of males by other males or gods. The rape of
a defeated male enemy was considered the special
right of the victorious soldier in some
societies and was a signal of the totality of the
defeat. There was a widespread belief that a male
who was sexually penetrated, even if it was by forced
sexual assault, thus "lost his manhood," and could no
longer be a warrior or ruler. Gang rape of a male was
considered an ultimate form of punishment and, as such,
was known to the Romans as punishment for adultery and
the Persians and Iranians as punishment for violation of
the sanctity of the harem (Donaldson, 1990). Donaldson, Donald. (1990).

Notice again that this is
identical to the secular literature connected to Egyptian
idolatry:
The Egyptian Opis (Apis)
and others which Israel worshipped at Mount Sinal were
worshipped throughout the area. "In preference to all other
hymns these choirs generally sang the so-called epiphany
hymns,which were intended to invite
the gods to appear. Plutarch wrote:
Why do the women of Elis call
upon God in song to approach them
with the bull's foot? Their song is the following:
Come, Dionysus,
Hero,
into the holy temple of Elis,
together with the Graces
come violently
into the temple with the bull's foot!
Then
they sang twice at the end: "Sacred Bull!" (Johannes
Quasten, Music & Worship in Pagan and Christian
Antiquity, p. 76)
"For nonliterate
peoples, music often
serves purposes other than
entertainment or aesthetic enjoyment. Certain wind instrumentare
closely associated with the supernatural, and
their sounds connote powerful magic.
Australian Aborigines, for instance, identify the sound of
a bull-roarer with the voices of
supernatural beings; for the Plains Indians, the same
sound signifies an awesome natural phenomenon, such as
thunder. Wind instruments are often among a group's most
important ritual objects, and in some cultures they are
specially venerated. The Kamairua Indians of the Amazon
rain forest keep their giant flutes
(three to four feet long), wherein
spirits are believed to dwell, in a
special shrine where they are worshiped. The flutes and drums of
New Guinea are similarly housed and worshiped.
"Wind
instruments in primitive cultures also serve nonreligious
functions. In New Guinea, bamboo
trumpets were once played
1. to frighten
an enemyduring battle and
2. to alert a village that the
victorious warriors were coming home
with the corpses of
the foes.
"Conch-shell
trumpets are used for signaling in
the Pacific coastal regions of Columbia and in the
Ecuadoran highlands. Trumpets also
may be associated with the office of king
or chief, as in West Africa, where
their use is strictly controlled by
tribal law. "wind

I’d like to focus on our Exodus text
today, and not just because I am a coward who doesn’t want
to come anywhere near today’s Gospel text! I do think this
story of the Golden Calf has something to teach us in this
particular moment that we find ourselves in today.
The text begins: “When the people saw
that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the
people gathered around Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make
gods for us, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the
man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not
know what has become of him.” Did you catch that? When Moses
delayed. They were waiting and in their waiting they became
restless and unsure and anxious. So they took matters into
their own hands.
So Aaron said to them, “Take off the
rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons,
and your daughters, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the
people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears
and brought them to Aaron. 4 And he received the gold from
their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a
golden[a]
calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who
brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” 5 When Aaron saw
this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a
proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the
Lord.” 6 And they rose up early the next day and offered
burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people
sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

It’s
important to note that the people were not abandoning

The text is clear that
their feast is to YHWH, not just to the gods. In their
waiting and anxiousness about what comes next,
they created either

Moloch was represented under the figure of a man with
the head of a calf É erected upon an immense oven,
which [see Note 1 below] [page 54] was lighted to
consume at once the seven kinds of offerings. During
this holocaust, the priests of Moloch kept up a
terrible music,
with sistrums and
tambours, in order
to stifle the cries of the victims. Then took place
that infamy cursed by the God of Israel: the
Molochites abandoned themselves to practices worthy of
the land of Onan (masturbation] and, inspired by the
rhythmic sound of the musical instruments, writhed about the incandescent
statue, which appeared red thru the smoke; and they
gave forth frenzied cries as, in accordance with the
Biblical expression, they gave their seed to Moloch."
("History of Prostitution," by Paul LaCroix, French
author and historian; 1806-84) Note 1: At the time
referred to by Flaubert, Carthage was under siege from
unpaid Barbarians
enlisted by Carthage in its war with Rome, as
mercenaries, and they were out of funds, water. etc.
at the time.
For the sons of Judah have done that which is
evil in My sight,' declares the LORD, "they have set their
detestable things in the house which is called
by My name, to defile it. They have built the high
places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son
of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in
the fire, which I did not command, and it did not come
into My mind [The law of SILENCE?]. Therefore, behold,
days are coming,' declares the LORD, "when it will no
longer be called Topheth, or the valley of the son of
Hinnom, but the valley of the Slaughter; for they will
bury in Topheth because there is no other place." (Jer
7: 30-32)
Moloch has often
been identified with Milcom, the god of the
Ammonites. He was probably also identified with Baal, and as a sun or fire god, as he
was also identified with the Assyrian/Babylonian "Malik", and at Palmyra "Malach-bel". Moloch is also
identified with Baal Hammon in Carthaginian religion

The practice in the wilderness, tyre and Jerusalem
Acts 7:42 Then God turned,
and gave them up to
worship the HOST of heaven;
as it is written in the
book of the prophets,
O ye house of
Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and
sacrifices
by the space of forty
years in the wilderness?
See, the thing is, their jewelry and
gold earrings were not bad. Not in their proper
context, but when removed from that context and twisted into
something that they worshiped in place of God, they are
toxic. But that’s what’s so insidious about the golden
calves, right? They don’t seem like idols to us.
They seem like the God who rescued us, or fixed the
situation, or made this or that happen. We don’t think we
are worshiping an idol, we think we are worshiping God. When
in fact, it is simply a god of our own making, crafted and
carved out of our fears and our pride and our need to
control things.
I wonder if that’s not what was going
on in the Philippians text. It seems that two
INFLUENTAL CHURCH LEADERS
Phil. 4:1 Therefore, my brethren
dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown,
so stand fast in the
Lord, my dearly beloved.
Phil. 4:2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that
they be of the same mind in the Lord.
Phil. 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow,
help those women which laboured with me in the gospel,
with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers,
whose names are in the book of life.
g4866. sunathleo, soon-ath-leh´-o; from 4862 and 118;
to WRESTLE in company with, i.e. (figuratively) to seek
jointly: — labour with, strive [struggle] together
for.
g4904. sunergos, soon-er-gos´; from a presumed compound of
4862 and the base of 2041; a co-laborer, i.e. coadjutor: —
companion in labour, (fellow-)helper(-labourer, -worker),
labourer together with, workfellow.
2041. ergon, er´-gon; from a primary (but
obsolete) ἔργω ergo (to work); toil (as an effort or
occupation); by implication, an act: — deed, doing, labour,
work.
Euodia and Syntyche were arguing about
something and Paul writes urging them to put the gospel
before their disagreements. My guess is that their argument
was important, that it mattered to them and that it had
implications for how they lived and WORSHIPPED and
shared life together. And their side of the argument, their
need to be right, became an idol to them, something that
became more important than the Good News of the Risen
Christ.
They are not STAFF of a Congregation. If they WORSHIPPED it
would consist most often of FALLING ON THEIR FACE in reverence
and Godly fear. When the people assembled out in the
dangerous mission field their only Spiritual Worship would be
to Read and understand the Word which had been delivered to
them.
My Wife's Sister and Neice answered the call and WENT to help
support a missionary as a NURSED.
