5.18.21Edward Fudge: DEATH OF A DISTINCTIVE?
There is no reason that anyone so antagonistic could ever be allowed to know:
1. There is no DAY of Worship in Scripture. Sabbath means REST from dominant clergy.
2. There is no example of anyone said to WORSHIP by preaching, listening, singing, playing an instrument, acting or PAY FOR PLAY.
A Disciple of CHRIST CONTINUES IN HIS WORD. The universal pattern is to READ or SPEAK that which is written for our learning.
An honest preacher will not compose sermons or songs and will never be rich and famous.
Acts.17.25.God.Not.Worshipped.Mens.Hands.html
After the fatal fall into musical idolatry at Mount Sinai, the Spirit OF Christ ordained the Qahal, synagogue, ekklesia or Church of Christ (the Rock) in the wilderness:
It was INCLUSIVE of Rest, Reading and Rehearsing the Word (only) of God (only)
It was EXCLUSIVE of vocal or instrumental rejoicing or rhetoric.
The Campbells having read this inclusive and exclusive pattern in the epistles, agreed with Paul and church history that:
A Church of Christ is A School of the Word
Worship is READING and MUSING the Word of Christ.
The never-musical passage agree:
Fill up with the WILL of the Lord (Spirit John 6:63)
SPEAK that which is written for our learning
Singing AND "twanging' IN THE HEART. [Meleta does not mean musical melody but meditate)
That is specificially the Prophets and Apostles as the TEACHING foundation of A Church of Christ.
Therefore, only those without A holy spirit or A good conscience BELIEVE that Christ is silent about things like instrumental noise when the PATTERN from the wilderness onward was followed to make both Jew and Gentile wise unto salvation:
Acts 15:21 For Moses of old timeIn GracEmail Edward Fudge: in Death of A Distinctive? suggests that NOT using instruments for 2,000 years is a sectarian folly which apparently needs to die. Calling it just our HERITAGE is a common theme of those not happy with people who will not allow professional performance music. The implication is that congregational singing is just a vile disease caught from our godly ancestor? Who? Maybe Jesus Christ, all of the Bible, all of the church fathers and all of the founders of denominations. Most divisive things among these people are called preferences or allowable diversities. However, NOT using music as worship is called a DISTINCTIVE. As usual the historical meaning of a distinctive always points to those who use music and musicians to replace the Word of God. What was the almost universal practice prior to the period when the Disciples of Christ/Christian Churches imposed instruments and sowed discord, suddenly become just a bad tradition.

1.04.11 When people speak out of their own imagination instead of the Word as Spirit by Christ in the Prophets and Apostles, Christ calls it blasphemy. Of Hezekiah's Plague stopping exorcism used to say that "God commanded instrumental praise and we must not be disobedient" Christ calls them BLASPHEMERS.

Edward Fudge and friends, whether they know it or not, would be historically marked as, as, well, u no
Plato in Republic 3That claims that using musical instruments in "a School of the Bible" is the typical or approved. Using instruments was typical in all pagan religions but Jesus cast out the musical minstrels using a word meaning "like dung." He consigned the pipers, singers and dancers to the Agora or marketplace. That was typical of the marketplace along with sellers or radishes or human bodies.
Certainly, he said; that is the model which such a speaker must necessarily take.
But there is another sort of character who will narrate anything, and,the worse lie is, the more unscrupulous he will be;
nothing will be too bad for him: and he will be ready to imitate anything, not as a joke,
but in right good earnest, and before a large company. As I was just now saying, he will attempt to represent the roll of thunder,
..........the noise of wind and hall, or the creaking of wheels, and pulleys,
..........and the various sounds of flutes; pipes, trumpets, and all sorts of instruments:
..........he will bark like a dog, bleat like a sheep, or crow like a cock;
..........his entire art will consist in imitation of voice and gesture,
..........and there will be very little narration. And therefore when any one of these pantomimic gentlemen, who are so clever that they can imitate anything, comes to us, and makes a proposal to exhibit himself and his poetry,
we will fall down and worship him as a sweet and holy and wonderful being;
but we must also inform him that in our State such as he are not permitted to exist; the law will not allow them.
And so when we have anointed him with myrrh, and set a garland of wool upon his head,
we shall send him away to another city. For we mean to employ for our souls' health
the rougher and severer poet or story-teller, who will imitate the style of the virtuous only,
and will follow those models which we prescribed at first when we began the education of our soldiers.
Distinctive means that not using instruments is what DISTINGUISHES the Church of Christ.. That means that they separate themselves for that short time on Sunday which is not to be tolerated but must be stamped out. Those promoting instruments knowing that they are sowing discord, offening up to 1/2 of their faithful member and stealing their property, are NOT ministers of God or they would WELCOME being a DISTINCT body of suffering servants.

2Cor. 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? Not in the vilest pagan temples could a singer or instrument play enter into the holy places: a Levite who entered into the Holy Place as typical of the body of Chruch of Christ would be executed.

2Cor. 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate,Edward Fudge teaching that God commanded instrumental music under the law. That is not true: the "musical" examples are one time events separated by up to 300 years. The favorite is Hexekiah's Plague Stopping political move to get the priests and people back behind the city walls to protect it from an invasion. Then, the instruments commanded by David, always under the King and commanders of the army were only during the burning of the goats for Israel who had also deserted Jerusalem called Sodom and the mother of harlots. In all sacrificial systems this was called "noise" and the task was called exorcism.

Edward Fudge claims that "a cappella" singing is just a bad heritage of the Church of Christ. The Church of Christ would never use that term which is now spelled ACappella. This is a devious way to infiltrate small "musical worship teams" singing "organum." This was performe by the Castrated French opra singers imported by the Pope for the Sistine Chapel. These replaced the Pope's chanters using falsetto because such religious singers and other performers performed "performing the women's roles." It was never lawful to play an instrument in the Pope's mass which was the only official ritual.
All of those having some kind of urge to force everyone to conform or affirm to the use of "machines for doing hard work mostly in making war or creating the shock and awe of religious spectacle" (lying wonders) fail to grasp that there is no example of "congregational singing with instrumental accompaniment" until after the Reformation. Singing as an act was imposed in the year 373.
The people's congregation or synagogue quarantined people to their own area. The assembly was commanded to rest, read and rehearse the Word of God. Those assemblies as the Church in the Wilderness never had any reason to assemble for any reason other than instruction. For the simple simon who might raise his voice and blow on a ram''s horn, "vocal or instrumental rejoicing was outlawed by a direct command." The single-event examples Edward uses as patternism this happened only within the Civil-Military-Priestly complex which God had turned over to worship the starry host. This death sentence was imposed because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.
These are collected notes and not organized.

"And the people celebrated this feast with burnt-offerings and thank-offerings, with eating and drinking, i.e. with sacrificial meals and sports, or with loud rejoicing, shouting, antiphonal songs, and dances, in the same manner in which the Egyptians celebrated their feast of Apis (Herod. 2, 60, and 3, 27)." (Keil and Delitzsch, Vol. II, p. 222).All of those promoting the use of instruments follow the patternism for the Worship of the Starry Host: are they subconscious or unconscious agents of principalities and powers in high places? Paul said that you cannot fight them by adding Carnal Weapons or Lifeless Instruments: that would just be playing into their hands.
Edward Fudge assumes that not using instruments as just a bad tradition is something dying.
Edward Fudge. Somewhere, on any given Sunday, guests from another heritage visit a Church of Christ and for the first time experience unaccompanied congregational singing in four-part harmony. Those visitors often compliment their hosts afterward, comparing the singing to that of the heavenly hosts, and remarking that "the whole church sounded like a choir!" Churches of Christ are known for singing a cappella or "chapel style" -- an Italian phrase for singing without musical accompaniment.
Tertullian (b155-d220) in Carthage where Molech worship probably originated and ended up in Jerusalem.
We see, therefore, that the arts also are consecrated to the service of the beings who dwell in the names of their founders;
and that things cannot be held free from the taint of idolatry whose inventors have got a place among the gods for their discoveries.
Nay, as regards the arts, we ought to have gone further back,
and barred all further argument
by the position that the demons,
predetermining in their own interests from the first, among other evils of idolatry,
the pollutions of the public shows, with the object of drawing man away from his Lord
and binding him to their own service,
carried out their purpose
by bestowing on him the artistic gifts which the shows require.For none but themselves would have made provision and preparation for the objects they had in view;
nor would they have given the arts to the world by any but those in whose names, and images,
and histories they set up for their own ends the artifice of consecration.Chapter X. Theatrical Performance and Religion
Let us pass on now to theatrical exhibitions, which we have already shown have a common origin with the circus [Circe=church], and bear like idolatrous designations-even as from the first they have borne the name of "Ludi," and equally minister to idols.
They resemble each other also in their pomp, having the same procession to the scene of their display from temples and altars, and that mournful profusion of incense and blood,
.........with music of pipes and trumpets,
........ all under the direction of the soothsayer and the undertaker,
........ those two foul masters of funeral rites and sacrifices. From these diversities it follows that the distinctive signs denoting those who are inspired are of many kinds. Not only among them are the motions of the body and of specific parts, but likewise its perfect repose,
and also harmonious orders and dances and musical voices, or the contraries of these.
The body also is seen lifted up, or increased in size, or borne along raised up in the air,14 or there appear occurrences in relation to it the contrary of these. There is likewise to be observed an evenness of voice according to extent, or with many deviations with intervals of silence and irregularities.
Again, sometimes, the sounds are augmented or relaxed after the rules of music, and sometimes after another manner.
14. M. Eugene Salverte in his work on the "Philosophy of Magic" remarks that in spite of their master's assertions to the contrary, "the enthusiastic disciples of Iamblichus affirmed that when he prayed he was raised to the height of ten cubits from the ground; and dupes to the same metaphor, although Christians, have had the simplicity to attribute a similar miracle to St. Clare and St. Francis of Assisi."
The National Guild of Organists has as its thesis that musicians are inspired. "Musical Worship Teams" claim that their songs trump those of the Spirit and that they can lift you up into the presence of God.
One will not hear the term "a cappella" during a long life of what is known as "congregational singing." A cappella defines the castrated French small group singing "organum" or after the pipe organ. A cappella is used to imply that a musical worship team of leaders or performers singing "organum" should make everyone happy. It does not make those who prefer to do congregational singing without overbearing voices happy. Because castration was outlawed, a style called "trouser's songs" was invented: this is a falsetto or what the Jewish Encyclopedia says would have been heard as screeching and screaming.Musica , ae, and mu-sice- , e-s, f., = mousikę, the art of music, music; acc. to the notions of the ancients, also every higher kind of artistic or scientific culture or pursuit: musicam Damone socci et cothurni,i. e. comic and dramatic poetry, Aus. Edward Fudge. Such singing can be indescribably beautiful, as, of course, can accompanied singing and instrumental music alone. Unaccompanied singing in church was part of my upbringing.
The command is to SPEAK in order to TEACH: if it is indescribably beautiful then it is apparent that you are giving heed to or worshiping the performers or performance. If a lawyer is instructing a jury he does not want it to be indescribably beautiful which means that one has slipped a bit into frenzy: he wants to INSTRUCT the Jury. If someone decides to AID the presentation with a loud musical outburst they would probably land in jai.
This writer was upbrought in Edward's world and history notes that Stoneites had little success in that area because the Godly mothers knew more about the Bible than those trying to arouse a form of mad frenzy to prove that they "got the spirit." Many citizens and preachers had grown up in the environment when the newly-formed Christ Church (NACC) was trying to peel off preachers by sending the O.E.Payne's book with a label "return to sender" pasted inside: this writer has one of those copies. This continued up through my early years and men like N.B.Hardeman debated Ira Boswell and slowed the attack against freedom to not use instrument for a few years.
Boswell-Hardeman posted by Dr. Crump.
In June 1923, the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville was the scene of a now-classic debate on the subject of using instrumental music in worship.
And so most people in Edward's neck of the woods were quite expert and did not find themselves as outcasts."The Boswell-Hardeman debate" broke the back of digression in Tennessee, and was the greatest single factor in ending all further efforts by Christian Church preachers to justify scripturally their innovations.
I love it, and I would not relish losing it altogether. However, Churches of Christ do not have a monopoly on the practice. This is also the custom of Primitive Baptists, the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Plymouth Brethren, the Amish, many Mennonites and the Eastern Orthodox Church.
The best material was developed by Presbyterian writers shortly before the Church of Christ, Baptists and just about everyone was sorely plagued by professionals wanting a showcase for their talent. Many of the Disciples turned to the instrument because of a building and worship war just after the Civil War when lots of money floated in Northern cities. I have made a partial collection of almost all writers and denominations who had to endure the invasion of the musicians. Click for Index.
The evidence is absolute that religious music always marked those who had slipped from the commanded SPEAK or SAY to the effeminate SING or CHANT. Well documented by the music Guilds of David which marked the first time males began to perform the women's roles in women's style and women's dress, and defined by Plato is the warning of gender-bleed among those who perform or IMITATE true life or true history.
CAN NOT USING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN WHAT IS ALWAYS DEFINED AS A SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE BE AN EVIL THING?
It was because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai that God turned the tribe of Levie over to worship the starry host (Acts 7 and the prophets and some psalms). The other people attended a Holy Convocation each Sabbath meang REST day.
WHAT IS DIRECTLY COMMANDED FOR THE CHURCH
Catholic Encyclopedia.
Every seven years, that is in the year of release, during the feast of Tabernacles,
the Law was to be read before all the people according to the command found in Deut., xxxi, 10.
But this enactment was probably soon found to be impracticable;
and thus the Jewish authorities arranged to read on every sabbath,
commencing with the sabbath after the feast of Tabernacles in one year of release
and ending with the feast of Tabernacles in the next year of release,
a portion of the Law so calculated that the whole Pentateuch would be read through in seven years.
This would in some way the commandment be fulfilled. Some time later,
the Jews of Palestine lengthened the sections for each sabbath
in such a manner that he entire Law could be read in three years (Talm. Babyl. Megillah, 29b).
Miqra (h4744) mik-raw'; from 7121; something called out, i. e. a public meeting (the act, the persons, or the place); also a rehearsal: - assembly, calling, convocation, reading.

An Episcopalian friend once remarked to me: "The best thing about the Episcopal Church is its open-mindedness. The worst thing about the Episcopal Church is also its open-mindedness." The brazen serpent, which served as an instrument of physical salvation in Moses' day, eventually became an object of idolatry. The metal snake remained the same. The people's perception of it drastically changed. -- to be continued
Dixisses: to say, speak, utter, tell, mention, relate, affirm, declare, state, assertThis was contrary to the pagan "worship" on the Sabbath or rest day including the curse of the sacrificial system including the worship of the stars and serpents by the Levites who were an old pagan group from Egypt.
The word SPEAK in Paul's writings is the opposite of poetry or music which twists the word.
The Academi was in opposition to what is better described as the Stoica or Cynica and others:
Cynics Diogenes, in particular, was referred to as the Dog.. a distinction he seems to have revelled in, stating that "other dogs bite their enemies, I bite my friends to save them." Later Cynics also sought to turn the word to their advantage, as a later commentator explained:Cyrenaica pleasure is the only good. Good in a pleasing agitation of the mind or in active enjoyment. hedone. Nothing is just or unjust by nature, but by custom and law.Paul warned about thes perverted, pleasure seeking Academia.

Commentary by a reader: Indeed, this is what a capella singing has become in the Churches of Christ for many of its members, the brazen serpent, the golden calf, the idol to be worshiped, with far more importance than was ever placed on God.So speaking one to another in Psalms, Hymns and spiritual songs can become EVIL. Only those who have some kind of out-of-this world urge to KILL singing would think that NOT being forced to impose instruments to drive out half of the owners is EVIL.
So, we have Christ in spirit defining the Church of Christ in the wilderness to QUARANTINE the godly people from the musical crowd AND to make the ACADEMY OF CHRIST possible. The problem is the recent defining church as a WORSHIP SERVICE where servie means "hard bondage" for the Levite musicians, in WARFARE with seeing church as the place where Jesus Chrsit is our only Teacher when the elders teach that which has been taught.
The worst thing about Edward Fudge is that lots of people with similar evil surmisings and lack of Biblical and historical background take it for the truth. Because Edward somehow hears beyond the sacred page this CLAIM is enough to seduce people by psychological violence.
THE SERPENT OF JUDGMENT OFTEN TURNS AND BITES THE CHARMER
We are in the midst of crushing the bronze serpent as you and fudge melt in the hands and not in the mouth: soft, that is.The Bronze Serpent was hatched out in the Garden of Eden. He/she was a Musical Enchanter who gained huge power with the discovery of bronze and brass. This created the clanging bronze by which criminals enslaved the common people into tithes and offerings of cash and bodies.

The Hebrew for "serpent" in Genesis 3:1 nachash which means to hiss, mutter or whisper as do enchanters. It also means in a secondary sense to divine, or enchant or mesmerize, as a snake often does before catching its prey. It also has the meaning to shine or sparkle, like bronze or copper. Some Scriptures also tell us that Satan has an extremely attractive appearance (see e.g. 2 Cor. 11:3, 14), and this Hebrew word therefore also conveys the meaning to fascinated bewitch. (Cp. Deut. 18:10-14).

Nachash "snake, serpent" with nshk "bite" provides a link between two verses in Amos speaking of the impossibility of escape Amos 5:19 and 9:3 - nachash often either carries overtones of the serpent in Eden (Gen 3) or of the mythology of Canaanite cultures (Is 27:1).
As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. Amos 5:19

Speaking directly to the "mantic" behaviour of music and speaking in tongues in Corinth, it is noted from the Classical writers that:
"The spirits were thought to speak in murmurings or piping sounds (Isa 8:19), which could be imitated by the medium (witch or ventriloquist)...Most spiritual and popular was the interpretation of dreams.
It also was the case that mediums intentionally would convert themselves into a semi-waking trance. In this way the suitable mediums attained to a certain kind of clarvoyance, found among various peoples.
This approaches the condition of an ecstatically aroused pseudo-prophet.. In Greece, too, oracles were pronounced by the Phythian prophetess who by vapors and the like was aroused to a practice of the mantic art. (Int Std Bible Ency, p. 2466)
Because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai, God had abandoned most to worship the starry host. The Bronze Serpent converted from a MUSICAL WITCH to a sign of healing prophetic of Jesus Christ. The people worshipped the Bronze Serpent because the Star worship at the temple included SERPENT WORSHIP.
Moses wrote Genesis as an antidote to the EVE story which carries the idea of the BEAST and of VENOM.
Fudges ignorance of the bronze serpent means that he is also ignorant of the TREE in the garden of Eden.Athirat is "Asherah, the Tree of Life. It is clear that Paul knew more about Eve than modern feminist theologians. Jesus warned that truth had been hidden in parables from the foundation of the world. This would veil the truth from the "generation of vipers" who would use the mysteries to help defeat Jesus Christ and the true source of life.

What murder has been committed for years without him? What nefarious act of infamy that has not been done by him?[8] But in what other man were there ever so many allurements for youth as in him, who both indulged in infamous love for others, and encouraged their infamous affections for himself, promising to some enjoyment of their lust, to others the death of their parents, and not only instigating them to iniquity, but even assisting them in it. But now, how suddenly had he collected, not only out of the city, but even out of the country, a number of abandoned men? No one, not only at Rome, but in every corner of Italy, was overwhelmed with debt whom he did not enlist in this incredible association of wickedness

Another name of ´Asherah in the first millennium BCE is Chawat, which is Hawah in Hebrew and Eve in English. Her full title is Rabat Chawat ´Elat, Great Lady Eve the Goddess, and is associated with the serpent. Thus, Chawa/ Eve (ZOE) is probably a form of´Asherah as a Serpent Goddess. As a snake goddess, She was also represented by bronze serpent forms, examples of which have been found in archaeological excavations in the Levant. In fact the Nehush-tan, literally the Bronze Serpent which is associated with Moses, is much more likely an emblem of Asherah. It too was removed from the Jerusalem temple the same time as the asherah objects.

While the word "ba`al" means simply "master" or "owner," He is considered a prince. Among His other epithets are Rider of the Clouds, Prince, Master of the Earth ( c.f. the Qabalistic phrase Melek ha´Aretz, King of the Earth). Ba`al is an executive force, dynamic, and able to accomplish what He sets out to do. Ba`al is often depicted striding forward, wearing a horned helmet and short wrap kilt, carrying a mace and spear or lightning-bolt staff. Another of His names is Re`ammin, meaning Thunderer. He is also called ´Aleyin, meaning "Most High," "Mightiest," "Most Powerful," or "Supreme," which some scholars have misinterpreted as the name of a son of Ba`al. As a weather god, His home is in the Heights of Tsaphon, Mount of the North. Remnants of His worship survive in the Jewish prayerbook in late spring prayers for dew and late fall prayers for rain." Revelation 18 shows the CRUSHING of the speakers, singers and instrument players John called SORCERERS. This has the serpent bite the tail and we have Eve unleashed on the tail end of the cycle. Rejoice and be glad in Revelation 19 WITHOUT the speakers, singers and instrument players doomed to burn in hell as dogs and sorcerers and liars all.
The POISONER was Eve in the Garden of Eden and in the Wilderness: in Greek she is ZOE and so she has taken over the souls of a few males and make them into a ZOE MOVEMENT trying to get everyone to EAT of the fruits.
[7] legousi Athęnaioi: there was no real snake visible; such is the inevitable inference from this passage and the still more explicit phrase below: legousi te tauta kai dę hôs eonti ktl., a conclusion which only adds point to the Aristophanic gibe: Lysistr. 710 ex hou ton ophin eidon ton oikouron pote. The oikouros ophis [serpent in Revelation] was no doubt sacred to Athene, and may have been regarded as a symbol, or a reincarnation, of the earth-born Erechtheus; cp. M. P. Nilsson, J.H S. xxi. (1901) p. 329; but in this case the only proof of the real presence of the serpent was the disappearance of the offering, the divine creature, no doubt, being thought to reside in the crypt of the Erechtheion (endiaitasthai en tôi hirôi, cp. c. 55 infra). With this story is naturally compared the tale of Bel and the Dragon (Apocryph. Vet. Test. ed. Fritzsche (1871) pp. 86 ff.), in which, as here, the serpent himself took the cake. Blakesley (quoting Valckenaer apparently) adds that at Alexandria any one might eat the cakes of Kronos (Athenaeus 110), while the fish-offerings to Atargatis (at Askalon? Athen. 346) were consumed by the priests as a matter of course, and above board, like the o rtoi protheseôs of the Hebrews (cp. protithentes here). The parataxis te ... kai is observable.
AND SO IT IS EDWARD FUDGE AND NOT PEOPLE WHO WON'T USE INSTRUMENTS PROMOTING THE BRONZE SERPENT AS AN IDOL.
The bronze serpent which, raised upon a mast, had stayed the plague in the wilderness for the Israelites, was worshipped till a reforming king destroyed the idol, and an idealizing legend identified the serpent's image with the Evil One, who had seduced the mother of mankind beside the tree of knowledge. Henceforth, for Hebrew and for orthodox Christian thought the snake-symbol is nehustan; but the earlier associations of tree and serpent were apparently beneficent. As round the world-ash in the Edda twines the great snake, Igdrasil, so the Attic serpent may have coiled round the sacred olive of Athene in the Erechtheion; cp. the remarkable representation, reproduced in Baumeister, Denkmaeler iii. 1394, fig. 1542.

Edward Fudge
2. DEATH OF A DISTINCTIVE? (2)
Edward Fudge: Among Churches of Christ, discussions about singing with instruments often generate more heat than light. The movement had split in 1906 and the controversy over music was a major factor.
That is a flat lie. The truth is that what became the Church of Christ was never joined with the Disciples of Christ / Christian Church. The thing that happened in 1906 was that in the first census the Disciples CLAIMED all of the Churches of Christ in Tennessee. At the time there was one instrumental Disciples church in nashville and less than a half dozen in the whole state. Nevertheless the Christian Standard haD sent an evangelist into Tennessee with the boast that "we will take Tennessee for the Organ and Society party within five years." That PROVES that the Churches of Christ in Tennesee DID NOT belong to the Organ and Society party.
But Edward wants us to AFFIRM the Christian Church and not the Disciples of Christ. The NACC organization of the Christian churches would not exist for another 11 years.
See the Stone-Campbell Movement
And Burnett's certainty that the Church of Christ was never part of the Disciples. Since the Christian church did not exist for another decade after 1906 the Church of Christ could not have SPLIT from them.
William J. Nottingham Global Ministries. This is evidenced in the decisions concerning missionaries growing out of this fervor leading up to the Cincinnati convention: Dr. and Mrs. James T. Barclay were the first. It was in their parlor in Washington, D.C., 1843, that the congregation had been organized which became the Vermont Avenue Church and in 1930 the National City Christian Church. In 1832 a few people gathered and shook hands agreeing to the statement made by Raccoon John Smith which defines the understanding of the Churches of Christ. The Disciples shook hands and signed the document but did not observe it. Campbell mocked the idea that a feww handshakes made a union. The Millenniel Harbinger had the task of REPUDIATING the views of the Disciples.
They went to Jerusalem, not because of Acts 1:8 "beginning with Jerusalem" as a popular Disciples legend has it, but because it was taken for granted by Alexander Campbell and his followers that the Jews were to be converted before the return of Christ.
The founding of the American Christian Missionary Society cannot be separated from the millennialist eschatology of the period nor from the pragmatism which required a foreign dimension to keep pace with other denominations or to outgrow them! D.S. Burnet's book The Jerusalem Mission and Dr. Barclay's book The City of the Great King make this clear, along with speeches and articles by various leaders like Isaac Errett. Barclay wrote in a journal The Christian Age:
"The ACMS...resolved...
to make the first offer of salvation to Israel. . .
for the salvation of the Jews...
for upon the conversion and resumption of Israel
is unquestionably suspended the destruction of Antichrist
and the salvation of the world."
Edward Fudge: Churches divided, families fractured and friendships dissolved. Pro-instrument members were usually in the majority and managed to retain the real estate. Stunned and dismayed, many a cappella congregations drafted deed restrictions in an effort to prevent the same thing from happening in the future.
Most of those who divided were Disciples of Christ
That is because the Disciples of Christ imposed instruments even over the objections of the elders. It happened to J.W.McGarvey who was denied the right to object in his own church. McGarvey was told by one of the elders that the church could not survive without adding entertainment. Most churches built by carpetbags of money ran out and turned to very expensive organs and organists (Salary $5,000.00 in the 1870s) to pay the bills.
Here is what Edward Fudge approves even though he does not know the history or the Scriptrues:
When Edward's father resisted the INSTITUTES he did not DEFECT from the church of Christ: everyone was anti-institute before people founded institutes (to be stolen by Fudge ethics), most literate leders knew that they had no "law of giving" to force poor working people to hand over their meager funds to another institute over which they had no control. Those who IMPOSE are always the ones who SOW DISCORD and I know for a fact that GOD HATES THEM.
- NONE of the Disciples of Christ believed in the use of Instruments. The Church of Christ was informed by John Calvin's RESTORATION MOVEMENT and the almost universal rejection of both singing AND instruments in the English churches. Those who believed that it might not be a sin knew that it would sow discord.
- Most of those discorded churches were in the North where fine buildings had been built and the churches already given over to a less Biblical view. Many faiths were destroyed by the Civil War.
- They had used up their money but had fine property which was OWNED by those who supported and attended it. The leaders were pledged by law, Christianity and minimal ethics to protect the property.
- It is true that the large churces were the center of family and civic pride. Much of life centered around the building, friends and family. They even may have trusted the increasingly liberal preachers. None of them added instruments before they had denied inspiration as at the first INTRUSION at Midway, Ky by a preacher repudiated even by the Disciples
- The leaders decided to IMPOSE the organ: if the organ was used for worship it would be a sin. But, if it AIDED the congregational singing to attract more attenders then it would be APPROVED by their understanding that authority included the Bible, traditionalism, the Law of silence and changing views of the European churches.
- At other times a vote was taken but then as now there was a lot of pressure put on friends and family. At one infamous church in Texas they were told that they might have to choose between family and instrumental music. The Stepford wives were ready to defend and support wives who might have to let old husband go. No vote was taken there.
- If a majority voted FOR installing an organ they KNEW from long tension that they would deliberately alienate friends and families. The BEST people with the best dresses would be at the center or the "bull's eye thing."
- Those who opposed the instruments would never have done so based on ignorant tradition: musical instruments were flooding the country at the time and Nashville was the center of Girl's finishing schools, music and instrument stores long before the Disciples, and grand tours including Gilly Lynde. They opposed instruments based on their BIBILCAL LITERACY. Those with Presbyterian background would have benefited from the best of Scholarship.
- Nevertheless, because they were DISCORDED and OFFENDED and could not worship with the "organ grinders" or the "chist of whistles" they were forced OUT of their own property.
- Then and now those who imposed the instruments PLANNED to lose a percentage of the members (owners) but calculated that they loss could soon be made up by being the "best venue in town."
- That is what Edward Fudge and the rest of the deliberate discorders believe to be the ETHICAL AND MORAL AND CHRISTIAN HIGH GROUND.
And Edward Fudge and friends still spread HATRED on those who refused to BEGIN to do what they had NEVER done in any organized religion. Not even the Catholics had to endure congregational singing with organ accompaniment.
If there is a HIGH LIKELYHOOD that the preacher will turn into a ROBINHOOD it was very wise for those who INVESTED IN and OWNED church property to include in their required Bylaws an article to PREVENT FUTURE ROBBERS OF TEMPLES.
A pioneer church where I spent the happiest church time including raising a family got crossed up by the Crossroads movement, the Jubilee and the Zoe Group. They came to Nashville--a city set on seven hills--to learn how to boil the frogs because the mother lusted to be the Musical Worship Mistress. I left in 1980 and it took about the 10 years to cook the frogs as advised in Lynn Anderson's Navigating the Winds of Change. They addED the first heresy as a Musical Worship Team. This forced the Lord's Table into a foyer! The OWNERS were told that they could not object: that would be SOWING OF DISCORD. Must have learned ethics from the Edward Fudge School?
They got a lawyer, rewrote the Bylaws and told everyone that IF they rejected to adding a clause which would permit them to add instruments they could be charged with being sectarian and could be sued. They told the sizeable Black membership that those who opposed instruments WOULD put them back into slavery IF they could get away with it.
The troubler, Milton Jones, went on to profit by writing a book about how to UNITE with the instrumental churches. No problem: you can have unity with Russia if you just turn your coat.
So, what is wrong with having a deed to my house which says that Pastor Pettyfogger CANNOT take my house and turn it into a crack house. I am sure that Edward has one of those. I would truly guess that the instrumentalists had the same creed in the deed to keep the owners from stealing it back from them.
Edward Fudge: For many humble souls scattered through the non-instrumental brotherhood, unaccompanied singing was simply one expression of their desire to please God as they understood his will. They refused to judge their instrumental brethren, and they knew the difference between "the music question" and the gospel. With popular attention focused on the most strident and extreme, these gentler souls were often denied the respect they deserved.
Alexander Campbell was in wide demand and he would never preach in a church until the organ and organists had been silenced.
There was never a time in history after the FIRST instrument was imposed that the scholars in the Church of Christ did not oppose the DISCIPLES to which they never belonged. The first real split in the Disciples over the isntrument was in 1859 although ther are some earlier notices. By 1960 the writers had begun to repudiate the Discipels / Christian churches with scholarly books and articles. I have collected lots of the books and articles.
Most of them knew why one should not use "machines for doing hard work" when they had defined Church as "a school of Christ" and worship as "reading and musing the Word of God" which was commanded by Jesus Christ. The Gospel is GOOD NEWS and it goes this way: "Come to me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." The laded burden was in fact in both Hebrew and Greek SINGING songs with recurring themes which created "spiritual anxiety through religious rituals." The word REST in the Church in the wilderness EXCLUDED "vocal and instrumental rejoicing." That is why the early Reformers resisted BOTH singing and instruments becaue both disturbed the spirit and are defined as enchantment or sorcery (Rev 18) mostly performed by the lusted after fruits worshiping the Mother goddesses.
In fact, Tennessee being the focus of the Church of Christ even some wearing the name Christian Church, there were a tiny handfull that added instruments. Because only one large building was SWIPED in Nashvill by the Women's Missionary Board, most churches continued without a beat. The instrumentalists never ceased their effort to sow discord and peel off a few dupes. I knew people part of congregations split over hiring preachers and also come who took "Christiah church" off the sign.
While many properties were lost in the northern states, the Church of Christ continued to prosper and outstrip the Disciples.
Furthermore, the 1906 even was a refusal to be CONFISCATED by the Disciples of Christ which INCLUDED the Christian churches. Therefore, if Fudge got honest he would INSIST that everyone should have remained with the Disciples.
AGAIN, THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH DID NOT EXIST OTHER THAN AS DISCIPLES OF CHRIST.
The Christian Churches sected out of the Disciples for the same organizational or denominational reasons the Church of Christ NEVER BELONGED. That was in 1927 through 1971 when the Disciples refused to count the Christian Churches.
Edward Fudge: In most Churches of Christ, however, opposition to musical instruments "in church" evolved into a prerequisite for fellowship and even a condition for salvation. Non-instrumental churches saw themselves as the faithful remnant, and unaccompanied singing identified those who really belonged to the group. Once again the brass snake had become an idol.
How in the name of minimal sanity can NOT beginning to use instruments when you have NEVER used instruments for these 2,000 years become an IDOL. People in the Church of Christ don't use the word A CAPPELLA, we call it congregational singing which has never deliberately sowed discord between brothers and destroyed families.
In fact the Church of Christ never had conditions of ATTENDING: it did and does have conditions on those who propose to be teachers or preachers. No Christian Church would accept a Disciple of Christ as a member meaning full rights to p;each or teach. No Christian church would let anyone who knws the Bible and universally bad press about instruments, or the menaing of church, preach or teach. Everyone will take your money. When Jesus came all of the Jews and pagans were addicted to the use of instruments to get themselves UP in a charismatic or even sexual sense.
Jesus identified the Scribes (book writers) and Pharisees (law changers and preachers) hypocrites by specificially pointing to rhetoricians, singers and instrument players. His message thorugh Ezekiel was that singing and playing instruments was defined as NOTHING, just nothing at all. The Christian Church was despised and rejected of men but not because of the music: no Jewish synagogue used instruments.
So, praise the Lord for being despised and rejected by those who use "music to make the lambs dumb before the slaughter." Instruments were always to silence the voice of the victim.
Edward Fudge: Because Churches of Christ did not use instruments, their members often found themselves isolated by conscience from the larger Christian community. And believers in other Christian groups came to view them with incredulity, suspicion and sometimes, quite ironically, with concern as to their very salvation. -- to be continued
When the Church of Christ set its course neither Baptists, Presbyterians or many methodists used instruments based on Biblical literacy. The Christian Church had its Tennessee Roots in the O'Kelly movement which had its toots in the Methocists, Anglican and therefore Catholic roots.
Fine, just fine. Most faithful Disciples in the early years--in Fudge land--worked from sun up to sun down including the chores on Sunday. They hitched up the wagon and went to church. They probably didn't have preachers--most of those developed to escape the draft--the elders taught a class and there were other classes such as the card class with golden stars! Everyone seemed happy as we met our Baptists friends on the way.
We went to school with all kinds of denominations and never thought about it. We gathered after church with the Baptists and Methodist for pork barbecue under the old Beach Tree probably where our ancestors gathered for a hundred years. We attended the Baptist "meetings" and the attended ours.
I don't remember anyone in my history who had time to be at two places of assembly at the same time.
Sounds like some old hate wounds to me. Would Edward Fudge feel better if EVERYONE add an instrument which Luther called an ensign or MARK OF BAAL and all ancients believed WERE the gods or the houses of the gods just so we would not feel like such low, slinking marked people. Most people ENJOY visiting with congregational singing. In fact I know a preacher-singer called upon to teach the Baptists how to sing four part harmony becuae the instruments SILENCE the voice.
I believe it when Edward "hears voices beyond the sacred pages."

3. DEATH OF A DISTINCTIVE? (3)
Edward Fudge: The past two or three decades have seen a spiritual awakening among mainline Churches of Christ, resulting from a Scripture-based emphasis on Jesus and a fresh appreciation of the grace of God. The awakening has led to greater awareness of other believers and has inspired some reconciliation between Churches of Christ (non-instrumental) on the one hand, and Christian Churches and Churches of Christ (instrumental) on the other. This rapprochement has been acknowledged and, to some extent, celebrated by major universities associated with Churches of Christ, including Pepperdine in California and Abilene Christian in Texas.
The fact is that for about three decades the NACC using dupes to betray their own congregation has been ALLERTED to the fact that no one could even hallucinate MUSIC in the "adademy of Christ" or School of the Bible. No honest person could ver suggest that the Word from Genesis to Revelation MARKS music as sources from Lucifer and the MARK of women or perverted males.
Jesus said that worship was IN THE SPIRIT and devoted to the WORD. Paul said that those converted from the dark errors (now restored) worshipped IN THE SPIRIT as opposed to IN THE FLESH. That was to keep the Dogs or Cynic singers and seducers spreading filth OUTSIDE of the assembly. The Apostolic Constitutions by the Church of Christ (c. 200) lumped instrument players with prostitutes and sodomites as does all of the literature.
The use of music SHUTS DOWN the Spirit or Rational mind to make giving heed to Jesus and His word impossible. It is not possible to have ever read the Bible and not be aware that the church is A SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE which excludes the diversities of Romans 14 to enable what Paul called synagogue in Romans 15.
A Scripture-based emphasis on Jesus would be aware that He repudiated all of the musicians: casting out the musical ministers LIKE DUNG. The GRACE of God gives one the POWER to be conformed to his will: the GRACE movement which confesses to sinning intentionally teaches us to DENY what Edward Fudge is promoting by repudiating the Word of God. Grace was a "brown eyed Greek prostitute" or maybe three of them. Grace REMOVES the laded burden which specificially points to MUSICAL AROUSAL.
The most effective weapon of the deliberate discorders is to lie and say that The Church of Christ sected out of the Christian Church. The fact is that the Church of Christ never had anything but project participation with them. And, the Christian Church did not exist for another decade after the Church of Christ refused to be counted by the Organ and Society patry.
See how Edward Fudge is RESTORING the laded burden Jesus died to remove.
See how MUSIC in the ekklesia or synagogue of Christ marks HERESY.
It was about three decades ago that the Christian Church (NACC) launched many of the "unity" meetings but behind the white flage was a take-no-prisoners full course press of the standard WHITE PAPER originated during the 20th century deliberate discorders such as O.E. Payne. Tom Burgess has reproduced some of these uses of the word PSALLO and beginning just before the beginning of the "Christian Church" in 1927 has sought to peel off those weak in the faith and devoide of Biblical knowledge. These resulted in total failure other than collecting a few--like Rich Atchley--was a "birthed" member and sympathetic to the Christian Church masked as a member of the Church of Christ.
Spiritual worship is RATIONAL worship related to the Word or Logos. Edward Fudge is confused because he does not understand what the meaning of CHURCH is. Jesus founded it as the latin word confirmes ADADEMY and the only resource for DISCIPLES is the Word of God. In the case of Philippians 3, the howling and yapping kind of "music" woud MARK the ADACEMY OF THE CYNICS: these were the dogs or wolves Paul warned about arising from within false elders. The only way to have UNITY with the world is to be LIKE THE WORLD.

John called them SORCERERS who HAD DECEIVED the whole world. That began in the garden of Eden when Lucifer (Venus, Zoe) as the singing and harp playing prostitute (bisexual, actually) wholly seduced Eve in a sexual sense says Paul BUT Adam didn't have to be wholly seduced: he ATE of the FRUIT of the TREE (called the Syrian) willingly. The words prove it and the contemporaneous literature demands that the SIN in the garden to be assigned to Adam was SODOMY. It was prophesied that the way to disqualify Jesus as Messiah would be to SODOMIZE him.
Hippolytus Book V Showing how the Gnostic Religions then are the SOURCE for now.
Martyr, presbyter date of birth unknown; d. about 236
Elohim the father, seeing these things, sends forth Baruch, the third angel among his own, to succour the spirit that is in all men. Baruch then coming, stood in the midst of the angels of Edem, that is, in the midst of paradise-for paradise is the angels, in the midst of whom he stood,-and issued to the man the following injunction: "Of every tree that is in paradise thou mayest freely eat, but thou mayest not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, [Gen. ii. 16, 17. ] which is Naas.
Now the meaning is, that he should obey the rest of the eleven angels of Edem, for the eleven possess passions, but are not guilty of transgression.
Naas, however, has committed sin, for he went in unto Eve, deceiving her, and debauched her; and (such an act as) this is a violation of law.
He, however, likewise went in unto Adam,
and had unnatural intercourse with him; and this is itself also a piece of turpitude, whence have arisen adultery and sodomy.
Lucifer totally seduced Eve
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Cor 11:2
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 2Co.11:3
Finally, however, in the days of Herod the king,
Baruch is despatched, being sent down once more by Elohim; and coming to Nazareth, he found Jesus, son of Joseph and Mary, a child of twelve years, feeding sheep.
And he announces to him all things from the beginning, whatsoever had been done by Edem and Elohim, and whatsoever would be likely to take place hereafter, and spoke the following words:
"All the prophets anterior to you have been enticed. Put forth an effort, therefore, Jesus, Son of man, not to be allured, but preach this word unto men,
and carry back tidings to them of things pertaining to the Father, and things pertaining to the Good One, and ascend to the Good One, and sit there with Elohim, Father of us all."
And Jesus was obedient unto the angel, saying that, "I shall do all things, Lord," and proceeded to preach.
Naas therefore wished to entice this one also. (Jesus, however, was not disposed to listen to his overtures), for he remained faithful to Baruch.
Therefore Naas, being inflamed with anger because he was not able to seduce him, caused him to be crucified. See how through Judas Satan tried to seduce Jesus.
But (Jesus) himself commending his spirit into the hands of the Father, ascended to the Good One.He, however, leaving the body of Edem on the (accursed) tree, ascended to the Good One; saying, however, to Edem,
"Woman, thou retainest thy son, [John xix. 26. ] that is, the natural and the earthly man.
Luke 7:32 They [men] are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
These people always get violent when you will not sing and dance the Dionysus or new wineskin shuffle: Jesus pointed specificially to the MARKETPLACE where speaking, singing, dancing, prostitution and selling of radishes. In Athens the PSALLO rope marked anyone addicted to the MARKETPLACE playing with the boys and were late getting to the ekklesia (CHURCH where they were MARKED, fined and disqualified."ALL of these writers take isolated partial verses out of Lexicons or church history and deliberately LIE about the Word of God. For instance, the whole massive SOWING OF DISUNITY within the Church of Christ is based on Tom Burgess' etal use of Greek literature where the word is used. Without exception, ALL of these proof texts point to older males PLUCKING his harp strings trying to seduce a young "minister" for sexual favors.Judas is called that SON OF PERDITION: his Judas bag was always attached to the flute case of perverted and "wineskin" singers and players.
Edward Fudge: Change is not confined to attitudes. Various a cappella congregations now include some accompanied singing alongside purely vocal numbers. Several churches now offer fully-instrumental alternative services. Among these are two of the largest Churches of Christ in Texas and the world -- Oak Hills Church in San Antonio (Max Lucado is preacher), and Richland Hills Church of Christ in Fort Worth (Rick Atchley is preacher). Houston's largest Church of Christ, the First Colony congregation in suburban Sugar Land (Ronnie Norman, preacher), added an instrumental service early this year.
Max Lucado Creed: has nothing in common with any Church of Christ
All of these churches are PASTORED by men who ganged up to intentionally discord their congregations, drive out the owners and add instruments. They all feed off the same NACC WHITE PAPER first submitted to me for review from Farmer's Branch. Of course, each and ever part of it is intentionally lying about the quoted passages. It stands to reason since Satan or Lucifer as "the singing and harp playing prostitute" in the garden of Eden and the Mother of harlots HAVING LANDED using "lusted after fruits" as speakers, singers and instrument players John called SORCERERS can seduce lots of people. After all, all of the "singing" and "instrument" terms were as the devices of witchcraft, sorcery, prostitutes and Sodomites in all of the ancient religions.
Edward Fudge: Meanwhile, dozens of new instrumental churches are springing up across the USA, as the result of spin-offs and church plantings by congregations that always have been non-instrumental themselves. Responding to these changes, one unofficial Directory of Churches of Christ now omits congregations that add an instrumental service, a move that is generating its own controversy within the brotherhood of supposedly autonomous churches. And we cannot overlook the influence of the Christian music industry, which has also done much to build a spirit of unity among Christians across the board, including many within Churches of Christ. -- to be continued
Isn't it predictably the claim as it was for ever: if someone FORCES instruments into a congregation and BETRAYS the church to the NACC or the Baptist, and if you do not hold them to be Godly or Ethical, then YOU are the person "generating its own controversy."
So, the Children of God, the Flower Children, the MERCHANTS stealing into churches to GAIN fame and fortune is ACCEPTABLE because it UNITES all of those whose mind has been scrambled by CCM. There can be little doubt based on historical writers like Plato, that the USE of metrical performances is both the CAUSE and MARK of a perverted group.
What Edward Fudge is really confessing without being remotely aware is that if people can unite over worlldly religion then THIS is a godly thing to introduce into the church. Those who will not bow and be initiated like Jesus are accused as being the perverts.
Edward still is not aware and will never grasp that church is a School of the Word: it was not ordained to unite but to teach DISCIPLES from the Word--only. Paul excluses the SELF pleasing or performance acts because it DESTROYS the unity. Edward approves BREAKING FELLOWSHIP in a happy congregation IF it allwsy UNITY to satisfy the lust of the eyes and ears with THOSE who destroyed the unity.
Not too long ago the NACC purposed to plant 5,000 new "instrumental congregations." ALL of the Churches of Christ which have added any level of "machines for doing hard work" are the WORK PRODUCE of the NACC. So, it is dishonest to claim that ANY church of Christ just woke up decided that the GRACIE thing do do would be to deliberately lie to their congregations and STACK the eldership by having the godly ones RESIGN and then adding new ones suggested by the "pastor."
If a thousand congregations were DELIBERATELY DISCORD forcing the owners to find new personal and family relationships and PURCHASE another propetry to replace the one stolen, I can see why Edward Fudge would think that is the godly thing to gloat about.
Isn't it strange that Quail Springs which had 950 people immediately collapsed with a walkout of more than a third of the OWNERS who had been DISUNITED and defacto EJECTED from their own property. At this time there are about 250 of the CONGREGATIONAL SINGING GROUP left. So, in fact, all of these INSTITUTES intentionally collect money, build churches, knowing that they will betray them into the hands of the mad musicians.
That is probably a postmodern definition of creating unity with the MUSICAL GROUPS seeking entertainment by DISCORDING and stealing the church house of those who bought. THAT is not hard to understand: that is what people following the LUCIFER (Zoe) principle do: that is their predestinated purpose.

Edward Fudge
4. DEATH OF A DISTINCTIVE? (4)
Edward Fudge: No one disputes that God once commanded his people to worship him with singing, accompanied by musical instruments of all sorts.
No, that's a lie: it was because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai that God removed The Book of The Covenant of Grace and turned them over to worship the starry host: no one disputes that fact. No one ever "worshipped" with singing accompanied by musical instruments from Genesis to Revelation. Well, Lucifer as the singing and harp playing prostitute in the garden was an exception.
What Edward and friends lifted out of a lexicon has to do with Hezekiah's plague stopping contract with God. The temple and city had been so polluted by Assyrian idolatry including "instruments" inside the holy places. Hezekiah needed to get the priests and people back inside of the walls to protect them from an invasion. After the animal sacrifices were made for the atonement of the temple, city and nations, Hezekiah decided to BURN the goats for ISRAEL which was a totally pagan nation. It was only during the burning of the smelly goats for Israel that the "instruments" under the MILITARY leaders made a great crashing noise. When the goat burning was finished the Levites just sang for the gathered people NOT able to participate with the sacrifices.
There is not a single example of the people''s congregation singing with the accompaniment of musical istruments. So, where did Edward Fudge get that false but common information. It seems if the Levites (an old Dionysus Cult) conducting the worship of the starry host made a NOISE while burning the goats that constitutes a legalistic patternism for the Church of Christ from which noise is excluded. If David playes his harp and praises God (Makes himself vile) this becomes a PATTERNISM to impose instruments even if all historic scholarship says that this is a false teaching of the Old Testament.
Edward Fudge: All agree that the biblical Psalms were written to be sung with instruments, that the New Testament urges Christians to sing psalms, and that Revelation portrays instrumental music in heavenly worship. But because the New Testament does not specifically mention instruments in Christian worship assemblies, opponents of the practice conclude that God now dislikes what he once commanded, and that he prohibits on earth what he approves in heaven. They are convinced that anyone who plays or sings "in church" with any instrument other than the human voice displeases God. And many believe that whoever does that will finally be lost.
No, that's a lie: the BOOK of Psalms contains only 57 true Mizmors: the 50 not dedicated to warfare or specifici sacrificial purposes INCLUDE no instruments. A Psalm is an EPIC POEM. The Bible is not metrical and you could not "sing as a group in a tuneful way." Individuals sang TO the plucked strings but melody never included tunefulness until the 19th century.
The BOOK of Psalms is a varied collection of songs many from Ugarit and other places: Psalms are absolutely connected to MAKING war on people. They were SCREAMED in a threaten sense to the enemy to make them turn coward.
PAUL COMMANDED THAT THE TRUE PSALMS BE SPOKEN: the Word SPEAK is the opposite of poetry or music. "men set their lies to melodies to deceive the simple minded" we are told. Singing is also the LADED BURDEN Jesus died to remove.
Prophetic of Messiah, Lamentations shows that
Lam. 3:5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.
Lam. 3:6 He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.
Lam. 3:7 He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.
Lam. 3:8 Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.
Lam. 3:9 He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.
Lam. 3:10 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.
Lam. 3:11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.
Lam. 3:12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
Lam. 3:13 He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.
Psalms are connect to WARFARE: When people made themselves VILE praising their "god" the only purpose was like the kid who says "My dad can lick your dad." It didn't always work as with Saul and the Philistines.
Psalmos also appears in the LXX as equivalent to the Hebrew word neginah [5058]. This Hebrew term is used to describe a wide variety of songs. Neginah is translated by psalmos in Lam 3:14 (song), in Lam 5:14 (music) and in Ps 69:12 (song). It is striking to observe that in the LXX translation of Lam 3:14 and Ps 69:12, psalmos, or its verbal form, is used for songs that are not only uninspired but are in fact the product of the wicked, even drunkards, who mocked God and His word. The Hebrew term neginah is used elsewhere in the Hebrew Scriptures of: the songs of the wicked, Job 30:9 (song); the inspired praise of God, Psalm 61 title (Neginah-a song performed on a stringed instrument); and the uninspired praisd of the Lord composed by King Hezekiah, Is 38:20 (my songs).Proof of derision or mocking Jesus Christ is self composed songs: this violates direct commands and MARKS those who prove that "music was to make the lambs dumb before the slaughter."
Lam. 3:14 I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.
Derision includes laughter in merriment or defiance, mocked, sport: this is the RISING UP TO PLAY as the musical idolatry they began at Mount Sinai:DERISION as David rose up to play:

5058. ngiynah, neg-ee-naw´; ngiynath (Psa. 61: title), neg-ee-nath´; from 5059; properly, instrumental music; by implication, a stringed instrument; by extension, a poem set to music; specifically, an epigram: stringed instrument, musick, Neginoth (plural), song.Prophetic of Jesus as was the JUDAS musical attack in Psalm 41
Is. 23:15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.
Is. 23:16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten;
make sweet melody [h5059] , sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
This is the reason people speak ONLY OF THE CROSS: that was where you musically mocke him. However, Jesus survived this MUSICAL TRIUMPH OVER just as Psalm 41 says.
Psa. 69:9 For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up;
and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
H2781 cherpâh kher-paw' From H2778 ; contumely, disgrace, the pudenda:—rebuke, reproach (-fully), shame.Psa. 69:10 When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.
H2778 châraph khaw-raf' A primitive root; to pull off, that is, (by implication) to expose (as by stripping); specifically to betroth (as if a surrender); figuratively to carp at, that is, defame; denominatively (from H2779 ) to spend the winter:—betroth, blaspheme, defy, jeopard, rail, reproach, upbraid.
Psa. 69:11 I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.
Psa. 69:12 They that sit in the gate speak against me;
and I was the song of the drunkards.
And on and on in the PROPHETS speaking for the SPIRITUAL people. MUSIC in the BIBLE CLASS of Jesus Christ is TERMINAL MOCKING.
5058 includes h5059 which has the meaning of 5060: to strike, to hurt.A hoplon or shield is called a Carnal Weapon with the same meaning as a Lifeless Instrument.
5060. naga, naw-gah´; a primitive root; properly, to touch, i.e. lay the hand upon (for any purpose; euphem., to lie with a woman); by implication, to reach (figuratively, to arrive, acquire); violently, to strike (punish, defeat, destroy, etc.):beat, (x be able to) bring (down), cast, come (nigh), draw near (nigh), get up, happen, join, near, plague, reach (up), smite, strike, touch.
Psallo has the base meaning of TOUCH or HANDLE.
Thayer gives many definitions and uses of the word Psalmos. The first is "to pluck off, to pull out the hair". Even at first glance we both know that this is not the definition we need, but we must ask why is the word defined in this way. This particular meaning of Psalmos is attributed (by Thayer) to Aeschylus between the years 525 and 426 B.C. This is obviously not the definition to what the Apostle Paul wrote in the early first century
Aeschylus, Persians Xerxes

Euripides Bacchae: Already like fire does this insolence of the Bacchae blaze up, a great reproach for the Hellenes. [780] But we must not hesitate. Go to the Electran gates, bid all the shield-bearers and riders of swift-footed horses to assemble, as well as all who brandish the light shield and pluck bowstrings with their hands, so that we can make an assault against [785] the Bacchae. For it is indeed too much if we suffer what we are suffering at the hands of women.

LOOK AT THE DIRECT COMMAND FOR THE SYNAGOGUE OR CHURCH IN THE WILDERNESS LEFT UNCHANGED
No Levite as an old Dionysus cult singer could come NEAR any holy place. No one NOT of the tribe of Levi and on duty could come NEAR any holy thing without being lawfully executed.
Edward Fudge: No matter how hard I try to understand this reasoning, it still does not make sense to me.
The Qahal, synagogue or Church of Christ in the Wilderness was to hold holy convocations. It was commanded to consist of REST, Reading and rehearsing the Word of God. That patternism never changed.
It was exclusive of vocal or instrumental rejoicing: common sense, you don't make panic creating sounds when you are in Bible class.
That's lamentable especially by one who claims to be "a teacher of the Law" without knowing the Word of God. It made sense to all of the prophets speaking by the Spirit of Christ. It made sense to Jesus who OUTLAWED vocal or instrumental rejoicing during BIBLE CLASS which quarantined the godly people FROM the curse of the sacrificial system. Even worse the subject is well documented in all of the church fathers and soundly repudiated even "outside of church" because of its mental and emotional disturbance for which people not take Prozac so they can survive "worship services" intended to bring on the frenzy of paganism.
Edward Fudge: So, when my friend Jay Guin recommended Missing More Than Music:
See a review of Jay Guin who also follows the NACC path.
He also uses the "legalize" of "lawyers" at ease and does not trouble himself to define words and understand the contexts ALL of which associate instruments with Satan, sorcerers (Rev 18), criminals stealing your sheep, creating the panic of Warfare (David), prostitutes and Sodomites.
Edward Fudge: When Disputable Matters Eclipse Worship and Unity, by Danny Corbitt (Authorhouse.com, 2008, 172 pages, $13.99), I ordered it immediately and read it straight through. Corbitt has done exemplary work, whether we think of biblical exegesis, historical research, even-handedness, clarity, logical progression of thought, irenic spirit, humble tone, or warmhearted generosity in dealing with authors holding opposing views. Indeed, More Than Music will remain a worthy model of Christian advocacy for future disputants, no matter what their topic might be.Danny Corbitt recycles all of the NACC proof texts and totally ignores the context. He is absolutely mistaken at every twist of Scripture. Most people don't know that the Payne and Tom Burgess proof texts for Psalmos or PLUCKING identify older males plucking the harp string to seduce a young male whose pubic hair had been plucked: as pointed to by Paul, they may have had a Gender change operation.
REVIEW PART TWO: See on the Synagogue which began as the Church of Christ in the wilderness.
REVIEW NUMBER THREE: Danny Corbitt beats up on Dr. Everett Ferguson on Psalmus.
REVIEW NUMBER FOUR: The word psallo in the Septuagint was translated only to SING. If the psallo word is used in connection with an instrument then the instrument is named.
Danny Corbitt confesses that using INSTRUMENTS is a Disputable Matter.
Christ for the Synagogue and Paul for what he called "synagogue" OUTLAWS Disputable Matters for the assembly.
Therefore, Danny Corbitt, Edward Fudge etal are CONVICTED of violating many clear direct commands.
John identifies the slick speakers, singers and instrument players as SORCERERS who had deceived the whole world.
John says that the LAKE OF FIRE has been prepared for Sorcerers and Dogs (perverted singing priests), liars and Wolves.
Therefore, based on all recorded evidence their teaching is a BURNABLE OFFENSE.
In Romans 14 most of the people who ate or bought food in the marketplace were MARKED by DIET. However, all of the sects were highly addicted to music and the Dionysiacs--old wineskinners--included sexuality in their "worship." Paul authorized nothing evil even in the marketplace but OUTLAWED any private opinion in Romans 15 called SELF PLEASURE: this identifies all of the performing arts which "created mental excitement" which disabled "speaking that which is written with one mind and one mouth."“Disputing” implies a questioning mind and suggests an arrogant attitude by those who assume they’re always right. Arguing with others in the body of Christ is disruptive. That’s why Paul spent the first part of chapter 2 on humility.
To dwell above, with saints we love, that will be grace and glory
But to live below with saints we know, now that’s a different story!Dialogismos is used 14 times in the NAS (Matthew; Mark; Luke 6x; Romans 2x; 1 Corinthians; Philippians; 1 Timothy; James) and is translated as: argument, 1; disputing, 1; dissension, 1; doubts, 1; motives, 1; opinions, 1; reasonings, 2; speculations, 1; thoughts, 3; what...were thinking, 2
Dialogismos is used 11 times in the Septuagint (LXX) (Ps 40:5, 56:5, 92:5, 94:11, 139:2, 139:20, 146:4, Isa 59:7, Jer 4:14, Lam 3:60-61) Dialogismos often means the perverse, vain thinking which contemplates destruction (Ps. 94:11), and is turned against God (Jer. 4:14; Isa. 59:7) and against the godly (Ps. 56:5).
Commenting on Phil 2:14, MacArthur notes that dialogismos...
soon developed the more specific ideas of questioning, doubting, or disputing the truth of a matter. In Romans 14:1, the word is used of passing judgment on another believer’s opinions and in 1 Timothy 2:8 it is rendered “dissension.” Whereas grumbling is essentially emotional, disputing is essentially intellectual. A person who continues to murmur and grumble against God will eventually argue and dispute with Him. (MacArthur, J. Philippians. Chicago: Moody Press)
Edward Fudge: What effect will this book have? Churches of Christ have fought this battle for 100+ years. In most of their minds, singing without instruments is nothing less than a mark of the true church. A very good book such as Corbitt's will change some opinions, but even it is unlikely to produce immediate or widespread changes in practice. And that is actually okay, since it is neither necessary nor particularly desirable that every non-instrument congregation should become instrumental.
Edward Fudge and others include in their BRIEFS the false evidence that that the Church of Christ SECTED OUT of the Christian church in 1906. Hmmm! Pretty good since the Christian Churce sected out of the Disciples in 1927. The Church of Christ always repudiated what became the Disciples or Christian churches beginning with the name Millenniel Harbinger. The Christian church has fallen under the Millerite prophecy that they could ENABLE Jesus to return in 1843. The Christian churches formed a Missionary Society to SAVE all of the Jews before 1943 and the CONFESS that they wanted to GET THEIR SHARE OF THE CONVERTS. Alexander Campbell wrote to reject ALL of the theories. By 1848 the denominationalists were planning to instroduce instruments and after the Civil war the Edifice and Worship war broke out in the North. Two men from Europe planned to confiscate ALL religious people in CHRISTENDOM and set out to confiscate the Churches of Christ.
See how they all twist history to try to save their souls.
Edward Fudge: However, two changes do desperately need to occur, and the sooner the better.
First, everyone on either side of the issue who has spoken or acted from a sectarian or legalistic mindset needs to repent of those sins, to renounce them for what they are, and never to repeat them again.Because what became the Church of Christ was never part of the Christian Church group it is not possible to be a SECTARIAN. In fact, the NACC sect of the Disciples sected out of the Disciples from 1927 to 1971. That was about 11 years after the Churches of Christ confirmed what the first census taker knew: that the Disciples/Christian churches could NOT count ALL of the Churches of Christ when they in fact had only ONE congregation in Nashville.

Aristotle Politics 1341b and all the instruments that require manual skill. And indeed there is a reasonable foundation for the story that was told by the ancients about the flute. The tale goes that Athena found a flute and threw it away. Now it is not a bad point in the story that the goddess did this out of annoyance because of the ugly distortion of her features; but as a matter of fact it is more likely that it was because education in flute-playing has no effect on the intelligence, whereas we attribute science and art to Athena
And since we reject professional education in the instruments and in performance (and we count performance in competitions as professional, for the performer does not take part in it for his own improvement, but for his hearers' pleasure, and that a vulgar pleasure, owing to which we do not consider performing to be proper for free men, but somewhat menial; and indeed performers do become vulgar, since the object at which they aim is a low one, as vulgarity in the audience usually influences the music, so that it imparts to the artists who practise it with a view to suit the audience a special kind of personality, and also of bodily frame because of the movements required)--we must therefore give some consideration to tunes and rhythms, and to the question whether for educational purposes we must employ all the tunes and all the rhythms or make distinctions; and next, whether for those who are working at music for education we shall lay down the same regulation, or ought we to establish some other third one (inasmuch as we see that the factors in music are melody and rhythm, and it is important to notice what influence each of these has upon education), and whether we are to prefer music with a good melody or music with a good rhythm.

singular GALLUS, priests, often temple attendants or wandering mendicants, of the ancient Asiatic deity, the Great Mother of the Gods, known as Cybele, or Agdistis, in Greek and Latin literature. The galli were eunuchs attired in female garb, with long hair fragrant with ointment.
The name galli may be Phrygian, from the two streams called Gallus, both tributaries of the Sangarius (now Sakarya) River, the waters of which were said to inspire religious frenzy.Together with priestesses, they celebrated the Great Mother's rites with wild music and dancing until their frenzied excitement found its culmination in self-scourging, self-laceration, or exhaustion. Self-emasculation by candidates for the priesthood sometimes accompanied this delirium of worship.

DICAEOPOLIS
Peace, profane men! Let the basket-bearer come forward, and thou Xanthias, hold the phallus well upright.
1. The maiden who carried the basket filled with fruits at the Dionysia in honour of Bacchus.
2. The emblem of the fecundity of nature; it consisted of a representation, generally grotesquely exaggerated, of the male genital organs; the phallophori crowned with violets and ivy and their faces shaded with green foliage, sang improvised airs, call `Phallics,' full of obscenity and suggestive `double entendres.'The Agora where Jesus consigned the pipers, singers and dancers were marked by the phallus: as the Abomination of Desolation in Jerusalem this said "We are open for business." That included the musical ministrels, money changers and others.WIFE OF DICAEOPOLIS
Daughter, set down the basket and let us begin the sacrifice.
DAUGHTER OF DICAEOPOLIS
Mother, hand me the ladle, that I may spread the sauce on the cake.
DICAEOPOLIS
It is well! Oh, mighty Bacchus, it is with joy that, freed from military duty, I and all mine perform this solemn rite and offer thee this sacrifice; grant that I may keep the rural Dionysia without hindrance and that this truce of thirty years may be propitious for me.
WIFE OF DICAEOPOLIS
Come, my child, carry the basket gracefully and with a grave, demure face. Happy he, who shall be your possessor and embrace you so firmly at dawn, that you belch wind like a weasel. Go forward, and have a care they don't snatch your jewels in the crowd.
DICAEOPOLIS
Xanthias, walk behind the basket-bearer and hold the phallus well erect; I will follow, singing the Phallic hymn; thou, wife, look on from the top of the terrace. Forward!
THE PHALLOS SONG
Airistotle Poetics 1449a When tragedy and comedy came to light, poets were drawn by their natural bent towards one or the other. Some became writers of comedies instead of lampoons, the others produced tragedies instead of epics; the reason being that the former is in each case a higher kind of art and has greater value. To consider whether tragedy is fully developed by now in all its various species or not, and to criticize it both in itself and in relation to the stage, that is another question. At any rate it originated in improvisation--both tragedy itself and comedy. The one came from the prelude to the dithyramb and the other from the prelude to the phallic songs which still survive as institutions in many cities. Tragedy then gradually evolved as men developed each element that came to light and after going through many changes, it stopped when it had found its own natural form
At first they used the tetrameter because its poetry suited the Satyrs and was better for dancing, but when dialogue was introduced, Nature herself discovered the proper metre. The iambic is indeed the most conversational of the metres, and the proof is that in talking to each other we most often use iambic lines but very rarely hexameters and only when we rise above the ordinary pitch of conversation. Then there is the number of acts. The further embellishments and the story of their introduction one by one we may take as told, for it would probably be a long task to go through them in detail. A Satyr play was an interlude performed by a troupe of actors dressed as the goat-like followers of Dionysus. Hence tragoidia, "goat-song.
Comedy, as we have said, is a representation of inferior people, not indeed in the full sense of the word bad, but the laughable is a species of the base or ugly. It consists in some blunder or ugliness that does not cause pain or disaster, an obvious example being the comic mask which is ugly and distorted but not painful.

Edward Fudge: Second, the anti-instrumental rhetoric needs to cease, since it lacks an intelligible basis in either Scripture, history, language or logic. The NACC has lately decided that God commanded instrumental praise and we MUST NOT disobey. The word non-instrumentalists now means those who PREFER not to use instruments but will SHUT THEIR mouths and not condemn it--even when instruments are forced into their happy congregations by lying about all of the "instrument" passages they can find in a cheap lexicon.
However, the word ANTI-instrumentalists has been invented by their writers to define people who DO NOT use machines for making perverted work but WILL NOT stop SPEAKING AGAINST it even when attacked in the public and religious press and by all of the UNITY meetings held to force people to be intimidated into "joining" all the pipers, singers and dancers. It is not likely that you can be more violent than to bring in agents of instruments and spend a decade twisting Scriptures, force out most of the owners and tell people they might have to choose between families and musical instruments. Whatever his motives. Edward Fudge has somehow turned the 100% Biblical association of instruments with warriors or gender confused people or even sorcerers (Rev 18 and all of the Greek definitions) into saying that IT LACKS INTELLIGIBLE BASIS. The MARKS of lying wonders performed by those now deluded (as the Lamentation's prophecy warns above) is SPECIFICIALLY theeatrical and musical performance "making the lambs dumb before the slaugter."
Thank you for the short-term freedom, Edward Fudge: Believers with a non-instrumental understanding will still be free to set forth their best case for unaccompanied singing.I love to see things of BIBLICAL PROPORTION fulfulled before my ears!

Edward Fudge: However, I predict that many who read Corbitt's Missing More Than Music will want to ask themselves whether they really wish to do even that. One of the REQUIRED CONCESSIONS in order to cure a historic fit of depression is that the Church of Christ AT LEAST confess that "using instruments in worship is not a sin." Churches did not use instruments throughout history and opposed even singing (in the Puritan-Anglican conflict in England). If people could be intimidated to confess that INSTRUMENTS ARE NOT SINFUL then the musicators would have won their battle and pretty soon everyone would be seduced by the Sirens from whom we are warned to "Stear clear." Like the musical agents in the Book of Enoch who let Satan tempt them with instruments, they will just have to suffer in agony with the only temporary cooling their spastic efforts to seduce others to FALL from the Living Word. The Gulf cannot be spanned even for a drop of water.
Iamblichus noted thatPaul commanded that we SPEAK the Psalms: speak for we literates and all of the Greek literature is the OPPOSITE of poetry or music left only for the myth mongers and effeminate. Note above the MARK ot the Singers and ther Phallic Basket. These are the "BASKETS of summer FRUITS" which were Catamites or male prostitutes in Amos. They are the same Lusted after FRUITS in Romans 18 UNDER the Babylon mother of harlots who uses speakers, singers and instrument players John called SORCERERS: that's why there MUST be a hell for the most evil terrorists known to mankind. Isaiah 30 PROMISES that you will know when you are driven into HELL: God will be beating you and forcing you to hear the wind, string and percussions instruments. These were brought into the Garden of Eden by Lucifer the singing and harp playing prostitute.21. Some exhibition of this kind is described by the Apostle Paul in the first Epistle to the Corinthians. "If," says he, "the whole assembly come together to the same place and all prattle in tongues, and common men should come in, or unbelievers, will they not say that you are raving?"
Hence he counsels that only two or three should speak in turn, and one interpret; but if nobody present is capable of this, they should keep silence, and speak only to themselves and to God:
"for not of tumult is he a god, but of tranquillity." (Ovid; Fasti IV,
"The attendants beat the brass, and the hoarse-sounding hides. Cymbals they strike in place of helmets, tambourines for the shields; the pipe yielded its Phrygian notes.")
There is evidently a deeper meaning in all this than is commonly apprehended.
22. The Korybantes are variously described. Their cult was identified or closely allied to that of the Kabeirian divinities, and that of the Great Mother. It was celebrated in the islands of the Aegean Sea and in Phygia. Music, dancing, processions, and ecstatic frenzy were characteristics.
23. Sabazios, Sabaoth, or Sabbat, the god of the Planet Saturn, was better known as Bacchus or Dionysos, and was also styled in Semitic countries, Iao or Yava. His worship was more or less associated and identified with that of the Great Mother, under various designations, and it was characterized by phallephoric [carrying the penis] processions, dances, mourning for the slain divinity, and the Watch Night. It came from Assyria as its peculiar symbols, the ivy or kissos, the spotted robe or Nimr, and the Thyrso, indicate.
Carrying of banners in procession mimics the phallephoric processions: banners were always boast or flaunt symbols.
As punishment for musical idolatry at Mount Sinai, God turned specificially the Levi tribe over to
worship the starry host. The Jewish Encyclopedia said that is exactly what they did. The worshipDanny Corbit: Missing More than music would be a waste of time and misleading because he twists all of the Scriptures as whe have posted in links above. Lifting of partial verses out of a lexicon is NOT the way to be a Teacher of the Word of God.. This fits the postmodern view which says that you can take SCRAPS of the olden Bible and just WRITE YOUR OWN NARRATIVE. As gently as I can say it, when people tell something not true INTENDING that they get a benefit of deliberately hurt someone is called a lie.
under the Monarchy was called Sabazianism and included the worship of Saturn (666) or
Bacchus/Dionysus which is now promoted as a New Wineskin Religion.
For the OPPOSITE view I have posted real chapter studies from the Bible and history beginning with clay tablets: there is not a jot or tittle of information which does not associate the instrument with people making war both spiritual and gender. NO ONE prior to Edward Fudge friends ever tried to PROVE that instruments could be used in the SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE. How is that no one can find a jot or tittle to recommend instruments and be so deadly sure that NOT using instruments is something which must be killed off.
