Is the Holy Spirit of Christ a Divine Person?

Jack Cottrell has been the most prolific writer on the topic of the Holy Spirit.  Jack says that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, the third person of the Trinity.  If "they" are all of the same substance and equal in all respects that means that God and His Spirit are about my size and a bit smarter. John makes that a terminal sin.

The Hebrew people were monotheists with no hint of another person. God says over and over that He was Alone and there was no one beside Him.  God always had His Word and Wisdom with Him

Deut. 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Deut. 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart,
        and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him,
        The first of all the commandments is,
        Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

Heis Just ONE, numeral
Of Adam and Eve bcoming joined or united.
H259 ’echâd ekh-awd' A numeral from H258 ; properly united, that is, one; or (as an ordinal) first
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength
        This is the first commandment.
This pleased Jesus who said "you are not far from the Kingdom of God": can any polytheist be close to the Kingdom?

John 16 how The Holy Spirit Reproves the world.

Jack Cottrell teaches that the Holy Spirit Person with his own center of conscience works on wayward people ot correct them. We will show from the text that God HIDES Himself from the WORLD and from the WISE. The Sophists are specificiall all of they performing artists which keep Jesus Christ from being our sole Teacher when the elders teach that which has been taught.

Jack Cottrell. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A DIVINE PERSON

The Christian faith affirms not only that the Holy Spirit is a person, but also that He is a divine person. He is God the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, being of the same divine spiritual essence as the Father and the Son. Several lines of biblical evidence confirm this.

God is never called A person: Hypostasis is "that which stands benieth." Father, Son and Spirit never names a being.

And here is a picture of HER resting on the "Daughter of a Mother" in pagan polytheism

THE TESTIMONY OF GOD
This is what the LORD says--your Redeemer
        who formed you in the womb:
        I am the LORD,
who has made all things,
        who ALONE stretched out the heavens, who
        spread out the earth BY MYSELF Isaiah 44:24
And I (God) will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places,
        that thou mayest know that I, the LORD
        which call thee by thy name, am the GOD of Israel. Isaiah 45:3
I am the LORD
        and there is none else,
        there is no GOD beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: Isaiah 45:5
That they may know from the rising of the sun (east),
        and from the west, that there is NONE BESIDE ME.
        I am THE LORD
        and there is none else. Is.45:6
I form the light, and create darkness:
        I make peace, and create evil:
         I the Lord do all these things. Isaiah 45:7

Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses.
        Is there a God
beside me
        yea,
there is no God;
        I know not an
y. Isaiah 44:8

None in Isaiah 45:6 is: Ayin (h369) ah'-yin; as if from a prim. root mean. to be nothing or not exist; a non-entity; gen. used as a neg. particle: - else, except, fail, [father-] less, be gone, in [-curable], neither, never, no where, none, nor (any, thing), not, nothing, to nought, past, unsearchable, well-nigh, without.

Declare what is to be, present it--let them take counsel together.
        Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past?
        Was it not I, the LORD?
        And
there is no God apart from me,
        a righteous God
and a Savior;

there is none but me. Isaiah 45:21
Thus shall ye say unto them,
        The GODS(elohim) that have not made the heavens and the earth,
        even they shall perish from the earth,
        and from under these heavens. Jeremiah 10:11
HE hath made the earth
        by his power,
he hath established the world
        by his wisdom, and
hath stretched out the heavens
        by his discretion. Jeremiah 10:12
When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar;
        he
makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.
        He sends lightning with the rain
        and
brings out (to and fro) the wind (spirit) from his storehouses. Jeremiah 10:13
This is a small part of the absolute testimony of Christ in spirit and prophecy

All of the "proofs" about the Holy Spirit still work if you understand that the Spirit OF Christ is Christ's own spirit and not another "person." That was and is the most powerful way to work so hard trying to take glory away from Jesus Christ who was made the Lord or ruler for our time.

That means that there is not ONE SPIRIT as a "person." The Spirit is that communication and love between the  ONE eternal Deity and His Son as Lord as His Own personified Word.
NO: IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT THE OLD TESTAMENT IS FILLED WITH SIMILAR PROOFS.

The common procedure for popular books is to focus on the writing skills of the scholar who then supports his views by just quoting references.  Unfortunately, this is a historic patternism of believing that since the Scriptures are inspired that means that any verse or phrase lifted out of context BECOMES inspired.  Finding "Father, Son and Holy Spirit" scattered throughout the Bible does not prove the neo-trinitarianism of a "three separated person family."  No historic trinitarian ever made such a statement.  The Godhead is:
One God the Father and
One Lord Jesus Christ
"Lord" speaks of divinity but is the HOW the one and only God operates in our physical World. If "Christ was the Rock" in the wilderness we do not say that "a rock is Christ."

The Name of the Holy Spirit was Jesus Christ: He promised to be the comforter to the Apostles and to guide them into all truth. When He selected Paul for work among the Gentiles, Paul had to SEE and HEAR the risen Lord to be taught with the promise that "Jesus of Nazareth" would APPEAR to Him when required. Paul said that Jesus "appeared to me last of all."

If they were guided into all truth it was for the purpose of MARKING anyone who did private interpretation or further expounding according to Peter. All of the greetings in the Epistles recognize the TWO ACTORS: God the Father in heaven and Jesus Christ as Lord or mediator for our earth.  He continues to be our only intercessor.

It is important to read these passages because there are TWO participants: God the Father and Sona as Lord.  As Lord or Ruler Jesus of Nazareth was given all of the power and authority.  If we cannot honor Jesus of Nazareth as a lowly human despised and rejected of men the GOD has no use for us: He can make better men out of old rocks.  IF, as Jack Cottrell says, there are TWO comforters we would have to concluded that the writers of the epistles SLIGHTED one of "them."
John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth,
        but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life,
        which the Son of man shall give unto you:
        for him hath God the Father sealed.

2Pet. 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ,
        to them that have obtained like precious faith with us
        through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Pet. 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through
        the knowledge of God,
        and of Jesus our Lord,
2Pet. 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy;
        whereunto ye do well that ye take heed,
        as unto a light that shineth in a dark place,
        until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2Pet. 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Pet. 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man:
        but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

This was the Spirit OF Christ:
1Pet. 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
The reason Doctors take away the key to knowledge is the reason the Scriptures are not to be tampered with or marketed or corrupted:

2Pet. 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people,
        even as there shall be false teachers among you,
        who privily shall bring in damnable heresies,
        even denying the Lord that bought them,
        and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2Pet. 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways;
        by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2Pet. 2:3 And through covetousness
        shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you:
        whose judgment now of a long time lingereth
        not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

2John 3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace,
        from God the Father,
        and from the Lord Jesus Christ,
                the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

2John 9 Whosoever transgresseth,
        and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God.
        He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ,
                he hath both the Father and the Son.

Jude 1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James,
        to them that are sanctified by God the Father,
        and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
There is ONE GOD and He has no "family members." There is ONE LORD Who is Jesus of Nazareth Who is the sole Teacher and Mediator on our earth.

If you deny the ONE GOD and ONE LORD construct and insist that HE needs another person ot help Him you in fact are defined as Anti-Christ:
1Cor. 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him;
        and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him

1Tim. 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

The term "The Holy Spirit" ceases to be an issue in th epistles and as the inspired writers completed their "part" of that which would become "perfect."  Jesus as The Christ continues as the King of His Kingdom, Intercessor and uses the Rod of His Mouth to mark for avoidance all of the WISE and all of the WORLD.

TRINITARIAN STATEMENTS

Jack Cottrell. Several NT texts refer to the Father, the Son, and the Spirit in ways that support Their unity and equality and thus the deity of the floly Spirit. The best known and most commonly used text is Matthew 28:19, "Co therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Ho/y Spirit. - The one name unites the three persons.

That is true but the NAME of the Father (not a personal name), Son (not a personal name) and holy spirit (not a personal name) is Jesus Christ.  You cannot read John 14 and not understand that neither Son nor Spirit "thinks" up words but only the Father does the work.  Therefore, instead of three centers of consciousness you have two who neve think and never invent words.

Baptizing in three names on behalf of three "persons" also gave rise to the dogma of the trinity of persons. However,

"The nearest approach to a formal announcement of the doctrine of the Trinity which is recorded from Our Lord's lips, or, perhaps we may say, which is to be found in the whole compass of the NT, has been preserved for us, not by John, but by one of the synoptists. It too, however, is only incidentally introduced, and has for its main object something very different from formulating the doctrine of the Trinity. It is embodied in the great commission which the resurrected Lord gave His disciples to be their 'marching orders even unto the end of the world.' (Int Std Bible Ency., p. 3017)

"It does not say, 'In the names [plural] of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost"; nor yet 'In the name of the Father, and in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Ghost,'

as if we had to deal with three separate Beings. (Int Std Bible Ency., p. 3017)

It's pretty easy if you understand that the NAME (singular) of Father, Son And Spirit is Jesus Christ.

And Jesus [a name] came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matt 28:18

Power is:

Ecousia (g1849) ex-oo-see'-ah; from 1832 (in the sense of ability); privilege, i.e. (subj.) force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (obj.) mastery (concr. magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence: - authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.

Keep yourselves in the love of God,
looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Jude 21

To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Jude 1:25

Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. 1 Peter 3:22

Name is:

Onoma (g3686) on'-om-ah; from a presumed der. of the base of 1097 (comp. 3685); a "name" (lit. or fig.) [authority, character]: - called, (/ sur-) name (-d).

The Greek ONOMA or name stands "for all that a name implies, of authority, character, rank, majesty, power, excellence... of everything that the name covers" (Vine, Name, p. 782)

Neither Father, Son or Holy Spirit is a name of God. According to Zechariah His Name would be Jesus or Joshua which means Jehovah-Saves.

And Paul said

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Col 2:9

Therefore, Paul and the rest of the New Testament baptizes in the name of Jesus Christ. This was continued for many years.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

Jesus is a name!

Now, Post-Pentecost when Jesus returned in pure or Holy Spirit form (John 14:16-18) and was the "repository" of full Deity to mankind, no one is ever baptized in three names. This within itself refutes the "trinity" which uses Matthew 28 as its almost sole authority. For instance, look at the actual examples the Spirit gave to prevent you from reaching the wrong, and destructive conclusion:

The Jews: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for (in order to) the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38 Discussion of Eis,... Part Two,... Doctor Jack Lewis on Eis or For.

The Samaritans: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Acts 8:16

The Gentiles: And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Acts 10:48 (not lords)

Rebaptized after Pentecost: When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 19:5

Apostle Paul: And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16 [This is the clear proof that the "pastor" has no authority to pronounce but Paul was to call on the name consistent with Proselyte baptism]

And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. Ac.22:8

I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. Ac.26:9

Romans 6: Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Romans 6:3

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4

Corinthians: Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 1 Corinthians 1:13

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

Galatians: For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Galatians 3:27

James: Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? James 2:7

"baptizing them in the name (singular) of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Name: Jesus or Jehovah-Saves Manifestations
Father
God or Full Deity as Son
Holy Spirit

The word PERSON according to Thomas Campbell: "is not manifestly applied in the Holy Scriptures to any of the Sacred Three: nor indeed can be so applied in strict propriety, according to its literal and obvious acceptation;

"for when applied to God, instead of meaning a distinct intelligent being coexisting with others in the same common nature, we must mean by it, if we think and speak correctly, one and the self-same individual being so existing

as to constitute in and to itself so many distinct or different, real and relative characters, or subsistences, each of which is but another name for the self-same individual essence or being consideredas existing in the specified relation of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Now, look at the parallel commands:

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matthew 28:18 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: Luke 24:46
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matthew 28:19

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:47

Jack Cottrell. Another trinitarian text is the blessing of 2 Corinthians 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Ho/y Spirit, he with you." This expresses our continuing dependence on all three persons.
2Cor. 13:14 The

For these are the firmest foundations of our liberty, that every individual should have it in his own power to retain or abandon his privileges.

And in compliance with his authority and with the precedent which he established, the presentation of the freedom of our city to others has never been interrupted by our ancestors. Therefore, many tribes from Latium, the people of Tusculum, the people of Lanuvium, and all other peoples of all other races, have been received into the privileges of our city;—

A similar message is in all of Paul's never-musical commands for how to hold an assembly.

Jack Cottrell.  Another text that parallels the three is I Corinthians 12:4-6, 'Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of Ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all perons. " Here all three persons of the Trinity are equally involved in the bestowing of what we call "spiritual gifts."
1Cor. 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1Cor. 12:2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles,
        carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
1Cor. 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand,
        that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed:
        and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

1Cor. 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts,
        but the same Spirit.
1Cor. 12:5 And there are differences of administrations,
         but the same Lord.
1Cor. 12:6 And there are diversities of operations,
        but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
1Cor. 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
The gifts of the Spirit are the gifts of Christ and in this passage and elsewhere if you have such a gift you will be able to prove it:
Praesentĭa , 2. Impression, efficacy, effect: “tanta est praesentia veri,Ov. M. 4, 611.—
The fortune of their grandson, Bacchus, gave
great comfort to them—as a god adored
in conquered India; by Achaia praised
in stately temples. — But Acrisius
the son of Abas, of the Cadmean race,
remained to banish Bacchus from the walls
of Argos, and to lift up hostile arms
against that deity, who he denied
was born to Jove. He would not even grant
that Perseus from the loins of Jupiter
was got of Danae in the showering gold.

So mighty is the hidden power of truth,
Acrisius soon lamented that affront
to Bacchus, and that ever he refused
to own his grandson; for the one achieved
high heaven, and the other, (as he bore
the viperous monster-head) on sounding wings
hovered a conqueror in the fluent air,
over sands, Libyan, where the Gorgon-head
dropped clots of gore, that, quickening on the ground,
became unnumbered serpents; fitting cause
to curse with vipers that infested land.
Jack Cottrell. Other trinitarian texts include Ephesians 4:4-6, where "one Spirit," one Lord, " and "one God and Father" are each included in the seven basic doctrines that unite believers.

Paul never partitions out the woks of God in Jesus Christ for out physical world and church? Again see how all that Christ brings us is MINISTERED by teaching the Words of Christ which He said is Spirit.

Eph. 3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given,
        that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
Eph. 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
        which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
        who created all things by Jesus Christ:
Eph. 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known
        by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
Eph. 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

Eph. 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Eph. 3:15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
Eph. 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory,
        to be strengthened with might
by his Spirit in the inner man;
Eph. 3:17 That
Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith;
        that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
Eph. 3:18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
Eph. 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge,
        that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Eph. 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think,
        according to the power that worketh in us,
Eph. 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
THEN IN EPHESIANS 4 PAUL DEFINES THE CHURCH OR EKKLESIA INCLUSIVELY AND EXCLUSIVELY OF THE WISE AND THE WORLD.
Eph. 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Eph. 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit,
        even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
The One Body is called the Church of Christ: He is the Head of the Body and in John 17 Jesus prayed for unity based on obedience to His Word.

Unity in the Spirit speaks of the church being united in one "spirit" or Mind.  Next notice, that the Gift of Christ is Christ dwelling in our heart or mind by faith. The Gift of Christ IS the Gift of the Spirit or Mind of Christ: "Let this mind be in you which was in Jesus Christ." In verse 5 the almost-universal "actors" is the One God and One Lord or ruler of our world.

Eph. 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Eph. 4:6 One God and Father of all,
        who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Eph. 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace
        according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Eph. 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When HE ascended up on high,
        He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
The Gifts of the Spirit (mind related) are Given By Jesus Christ whose glory is not shared by HIS OWN mind.
Phil 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent;
        that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

2Cor. 3:15 But even unto this day,

        are changed into the same image from glory to glory,
        even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Jesus Christ performed His Role perfectly to PREVENT people from thinking that THEY are second incarnations.  The Purpose of Christ-gifted leaders is not to LEAD people int depravity.

Now, you know that an elder as the only Pastor-Teacher is to "teach that which is written" to mature "children" into "men" and to PREVENT the NAVIGATING THE WINDS OF CHANGE which always marks the musical perverts STALKING you.

 Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro,
        and carried about with every wind of doctrine,
        by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH AFTER YOU HAVE OUSTED FALSE TEACHERS

Eph. 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
Eph. 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him,
        and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Eph. 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,
        which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph. 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Eph. 4:24 And that ye put on the new man,
        which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph. 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying,
        speak every man truth with his neighbour:
        for we are members one of another.
THE BLOWERS OF THE WINDS OF FALSE DOCTRINE SUPPOSING THAT GODLINESS IS GAIN.

It may be a supernatural sign that those who are now led by the "spirit" person beyond the record Jesus Christ left us use the tern "New Hermeneutic" as if they have some latter day insight no one else had.  Rubel Shelly shows that John's use of LOGOS came from Greek Philosophy and not from God.  And those trying to impose what Jesus died to silence boast about "Navigating the Winds of Change."
Hermes appears to have been the chief of the Cabiri (Roscher, Myth. Lex. 2360); with his cult compare the Gallic (Caesar, B. G. vi. 17; Rhys, Hibbert Lectures, pp. 5-20 and ch. iv) and German (Tac. Germ. 9) worship of Mercurius. The latter, Odin, would seem to be like Hermes a wind god, and this may be true also of the Thracian deity. It seems improbable that the Thracians were content with so small a pantheon.
These are the WISE from which God has HIDDEN Himself forever more.

Tom Burgess uses this is a PATTERNISM to impose music on happy churches.

From Plutarch, Pericles.

Now Damon seems to have been a consummate sophist, but to have taken refuge behind the name of music in order to conceal from the multitude his real power and he associated with Pericles, that political athlete, as it were, in the capacity of rubberc and trainer.  However, Damon was not left unmolested in this use of his lyre as a screen, but was ostracized for being a great schemer and a friend of tyranny, and became a butt of the comic poets.

And so Philip [Philip of Macedon, to Alexander.] once said to his son, who, as the wine went round, plucked the strings charmingly and skilfully, "Art not ashamed to pluck the strings so well?" It is enough, surely, if a king have leisure to hear others pluck the strings, and he pays great deference to the Muses if he be but a spectator of such contests.

To me, therefore, that Thracian Orpheus, that Theban, and that Methymnaean,-men, and yet unworthy of the name,-seem to have been deceivers,  who, under the pretence of poetry corrupting human life, possessed by a spirit of artful sorcery for purposes of destruction, celebrating crimes in their orgies, and making human woes the materials of religious worship, were the first to entice men to idols;

The Gift of A holy spirit in Acts 2:38 is the gift of A good conscience or consciousness in 1 peter 3:21: Baptism saves because we ASK for what is defined as a co-perception.  Paul told the Jews in Corinth that they had been blinded at Mount Sinai and would not be able to read BLACK text on BROWN paper or understood the always-read text in the synagogue UNTIL they were ocnverted or baptized into Christ. A seal of the or absolute certainty is that Jesus said that "doctors take away the key to knowledge" and we simple ones can read a text and understand it. For instance, why would the WISE and the WORLD hear the command to SPEAK the Scriptures (externall) with the singing and melody IN the heart and then be willing to lie, cheat and steal the church house of widows to give a place to their professional musician bonded buddies?

That is why we are baptized into the NAME of Jesus Christ.

Jack Cottrell. 1 Peter 1:2, which says we are chosen "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying, work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood." These latter two texts again involve all three persons of the Trinity in the work of salvation.

This would say---as people often say--that we are saved by a direct operation of The Holy Spirit Person and THEN we obey and are spinkled with the blood.  Peter is speaking of OUR spirit or OUR conscience which is purified when we REQUEST it by the act of Baptism:
1Pet. 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us
        (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,
        but the request for a good conscience toward God,)
        by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

We have A holy spirit or A good conscience when whe are Baptized for the remission of sins in OUR unholy human spirit.

"that you may obey" makes no sense since eis hupakoēn where Eis means a lace we have entered into: the parallel passes prove that we enter INTO the remission of sins which gives US A holy spirit when we OBEY that foreordained plan of God.

Jack Cottrell. One text that should not be cited to support the Trinity and therefore the deity of the Spirit is 1 John 5:7 in the KJV,

We will take a look: If you include the underlined words below, they still do not define "three persons with their own emotions and centers of consciousness." No one would have inserted these words to speak of a triad of THREE PERSONS because no classical trinitarian ever taught that heresy.
1John 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world,
        but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

1John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ;
        not by water only, but by water and blood.
        And it is the Spirit that beareth witness,
        because the Spirit is truth.
John 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:
        the words that I speak unto you,
        they are spirit, and they are life.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

2Cor. 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2Cor. 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit OF the Lord.
1John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven,
        the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
        and these three are one.
1John 5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth,
        the spirit, and the water, and the blood:
        and these three agree in one.

1John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater:
         for this is the witness of God
         which he hath testified of his Son.

1John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God
        hath the witness in himself:
        he that believeth not God hath made him a liar;
        because he believeth not the record that God
        gave of his Son.
1John 5:11 And this is the record,
        that God hath given to us eternal life,
        and this life is in his Son.

1John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life;
        and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1John 5:13 These things have I written unto you
        that believe on the name of the Son of God;
        that ye may know that ye have eternal life,
        and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
