Isaiah 30, Musical Processions, The Septuagint (LXX)

ISIS is the Mother Goddess of Demon-Kairos Worship: Spiritual Terrorists and Images of Hell: Lipscomb University Summer Celebration 2016

Isaiah 30 in the Septuagint in red.  When Israel rose up to play in musical idolatry at Mount Sinai God turned them over to worship the starry host.  Throughout the Monarchy the Assyrian form of worship was practiced by most National sacrificial system.  Here are a few notes to set the stage for God defining "hell" as a place to beat His enemies into to the sounds of wind, string and percussion instruments.

Remember that it was because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai that God turned them over to worship the starry host: don't be surprised that the Bible and the Jewish Encyclopedia says that the worshipped the STARS at the Temple in Jerusalem.  Sabazianism was the same as Dionysus and Apollo (Abaddon, Apollyon) worship in the surrounding nations. BEGINNING OF ISAIAH 30

Summary and Background/ This was common to all other nations including Greece and Babylon.

-Hyacinthia

(ta Huakinthia). A festival, celebrated for three days in the summer of each year, at Amyclae, in honour of Apollo and his unhappy favourite Hyacynthus (q.v.). Müller gives strong reasons for supposing that the Hyacinthia was originally a festival of Demeter. Like other festivals in honour of nature, the festival of the Hyacinthia, celebrated by the Spartans at Amyclae for three days in July, down to the time of the Roman emperors, was connected with the expression of grief at the death of vegetation, of joy over the harvest, and of cheerful trust in the re-awakening of nature.

On the first day, which was dedicated to silent mourning, sacrifice to the dead was offered at the grave of Hyacinthus, which was under the statue of Apollo in the temple at Amyclae. The following day was spent in public rejoicing in honour of Apollo, in which all the populace, including the slaves, took part.

They went in festal procession with choruses of singing boys and girls, accompanied by harps and flutes, to the temple of Apollo, where games and competitions, sacrifices and entertainments to one another took place, and a robe, woven by the Spartan women, was offered to the god.

From the Golden Calf: The Canaanites were under Assyro-Babylonian dominance from 3000 to 1700 BCE. Even by circa 1400 BCE, their influence was still so great that all correspondence with Egypt and the Pharaoh was conducted in Babylonian, and the name of the moon-god Sin formed the basis for the Canaanite names Sinai and the wilderness of Sin (ERE, Vol. 3, p. 183). The hand of Sin was seen in the cause of Catatonia or madness in children - hence, lunacy is associated with this deity (ibid., p. 527). Sin moon-god of Harran was also worshipped at Sam'al at the foot of Mount Amanus (ibid., Vol. 2, p. 295). Sin was the Baal of Harran mentioned in the correspondence at the time of Sennacharib, Esarhaddon and Ashurbanipal. Sargon (722-706 BCE) confirmed the exemption Harran enjoyed from taxes as the city of Sin (ibid.). Nabonidas last king of Babylon (555-539 BCE) rebuilt the temple of Sin at Harran. Sin became identified with Be'el-shamin the owner of the sky from the Syrian dominance at Harran combining the Syrian god with the ancient moon-god. This deity was identified with Zeus by the Greeks from Phoenicia and Palmyra and elsewhere enjoying their patronage and spread from Mesopotamia into Armenia. Ultimately, he became identified with Anu, Lord of Heaven of Babylon (ibid., Vol. 2, p. 295).

From the earliest times (c. 4000 BCE), there were triads formed of Enlil, Anu and Enki. The second triad was formed from Ur, moon-god of Ur, Utu sun-god of Sippar, and Nana goddess of Erech (ibid., p. 296). The moon-god of Ur can be identified with Sin. The Semitic term Bel was used among the Babylonian Semites derived from Baal in the same sense as it was used by the other Semites and in addition used it as master or lord (ibid.).

The Israelites rose up in PLAY or musical idolatry at Mount Sinai: the trinity was Osiris, Isis and Hathor:  The Priests were:

-Gallus , i, m., = Gallos Strab., 2. (Acc. to II. A., of or belonging to the priests of Cybele; hence, transf.) Of or belonging to the priests of Isis, Gallic: “turma, the troop of the priests of Isis, Ov. Am. 2, 13, 18.

-Galli Harpers Galloi, in post-classical authors only). The eunuch priests of Cybelé or the Great Mother, whose worship, so far as it can be traced historically, had its original seat in Phrygia (Marmor Parium, ap. C. Müller, Fragm. i. 544, where it is placed under the reign of Erichthonius, king of Attica, B.C. 1506; Strabo, x. pp. 469, 472, xii. p. 567, where the names Kubelē, Dindumēnē, etc., are said to be derived from Phrygian localities; Kubelēn apo tou topou, Diod.iii. 58). The Phrygian language was Indo-European, as appears from the extant inscriptions (Rawlinson's Herod. vol. i. App. 666); and the worship of Cybelé has been thought to be also IndoEuropean; Avestan names have been traced in it —Berecyntus=Berezat; Corybantes=Gereuantô (Labatut in Rev. Numism. Belge, 1868, p. 286). Other names, however, are of distinctly Semitic affinities; Rhea perhaps=the Babylonian Ri (Mulita or Mylitta), and Nana more certainly=the Babylonian Nana, modern Syrian Nani.

The origin of the name of Galli is not absolutely certain, but it was doubtless a native Phrygian word; of course it has nothing to do with the Galatae or Gauls, whose first appearance in these countries dates only from B.C. 278. There is no reason to reject the tradition which derives it from a river in Phrygia; there were two small rivers called Gallus , both tributaries of the Sangarius, and the one which flows by Pessinus must be meant, whose water was fabled to cause this particular form of religious madness (Ovid, Fast. iv. 363; Plin. H. N. v. 147; Plin. H. N. xi. 261; Plin. H. N. xxxi. 9). A form gallantes, as if from gallare, “to rave like a priest of Cybelé,” is cited from Varro (ap. Non. p. 119, 5). In their wild, enthusiastic, and boisterous rites the Galli recalled the legends of the Corybantes (q.v.). According to an ancient custom, they were always castrated (spadones, semimares, semiviri, nec viri nec feminae), and it would seem that, impelled by religious enthusiasm, they performed this operation on themselves (Ovid, Fast. iv. 237; Plin. H. N. xi. 261; Plin. H. N. xxxv. 165; Martial, iii. 81, xi. 74; Juv.vi. 512 foll.; Catull. Attis). See Rhea.

Gal 5:12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! CHRYSOSTOM IDENTIFIES those who drive you out of your homeland:
That by lying about the Spirit OF Christ universal condemnation of music a the MARK of telling God to "Shut your face."
For they had compelled them to abandon their own fatherland, their liberty, and their heavenly kindred, and to seek an alien and foreign one; they had cast them out of Jerusalem which is above and free, and compelled them to wander forth as captives and emigrants.....But in truth neither the eye nor any other part of us is to blame, but the depraved will only.

But if you will not allow this, why do you not mutilate the tongue for blasphemy, the hands for rapine, the feet for their evil courses, in short, the whole body?
For the ear enchanted by the sound of a flute hath often enervated the soul; and the perception of a sweet perfume by the nostrils hath bewitched the mind, and made it frantic for pleasure. Yet this would be extreme wickedness and satanic madness. Note 1.

ALL musical terms speak of enchantment or SORCERY: why else would people LIE about the Bible, lie TO God and lie ABOUT God? A note reads:

Note 1: Paul wishes that the circumcisers would not stop with circumcision but go beyond it to mutilation (make themselves eunuchs) like the priests of Cybele. A severe irony and similar to the one in Philip. iii. 2, 3, where Paul calls the boasters of circumcision “the Concision.” Self mutilation was a recognized form of heathen worship especially in Pessinus in Galatia and therefore quite familiar to the readers. Thus by their glorying in the flesh the Galatians relapsed into their former heathenism,--Schaff and Lightfoot. The Revised Version here has, “would even cut themselves off,” the American Committee has, “would go beyond circumcision.”—G.A.]

-Korubantes). The ministers or priests of Rhea [Eve among the pagans] (q.v.), or Cybelé, the great mother of the gods, who was worshipped in Phrygia. In their solemn festivals they displayed the most extravagant fury in their dances in armour, as well as in the accompanying music of flutes, cymbals, and drums. Hence korubantismos was the name given to an imaginary disease, in which persons felt as if some great noise were rattling in their ears. The Corybantes are often identified with the Idaean Dactyli, and are thus said to have been
Corybantes.Cybele.Zeus.gifthe nurses of Zeus when he was suckled by the goat Amalthea in Crete. See Curetes; Dactyli; Galli; Zeus.

Topheth "denotes properly what causes loathing or abhorrence; that which produces disgust and vomiting" (Barnes). This association between loathing of Topheth and the tabret was so clear that the early revisers have Job 17:6 KJV saying:

"He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his shildren shall fail. He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret."

Thus, "I was an abhorrence" became "I was a tabret." In either case one beat upon it or him when he was just as innocent as the child sacrificed to Moloch.

"This valley was early selected as the seat of the worship of Moloch, where his rites were celebrated by erecting a huge brazen image with a hollow trunk and arms, which was heated, and within which, or on the arms of which, children were placed as a sacrifice to the horrid idol. To drown their cries, drums were beaten, which were called Tophim." (Barnes, Isaiah 33, p. 463).

"We may understand a thing as spoken generally, even when it requires a certain special interpretation to be given to it. For some things spoken with a special reference contain in them general truth.

When God admonishes the Isrealites of their duty, or sharply reproves them,
        He has surely a reference
to all men;

when He threatens destruction to Egypt and Ethiopia,

He surely pre-condemns every sinning nation, whatever.

If, reasoning from species to genus, every nation that sins against them is an Egypt and Ethiopia; so also, reasoning from genus to species, with reference to the origin of shows, every show is an assembly of the wicked.

When Israel sinned at Mount Sinai it was largely beyond redemption. There, God turned them over to worship the starry hosts whose worship is defined by Amos in chapters 5 and 6. As Stephen repeated the story in Acts 7 the Jewish clergy were infuriated and killed him. In Canaan at the end of the period of Judges, Israel's elders or judges demanded a king like the nations so that they could worship like the nations. God warned that the kings would lead them into captivity and death.

For though they had mockingly rejected him who long before had been cast out and exposed, at the end of the events they marveled at him,

Animal sacrifices in Jerusalem were part of this national cult which did not involve the common people except the warrior or muster-age males.

Israel first failed by living like the Egyptians for their entire exile. They were so evil that God rescued the Egyptians from the Israelites who were polluting the name of Yahweh.

Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. Ezekiel 20: 7

But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. Ezekiel 20: 8

But I wrought for my names sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt. Ezekiel 20: 9

Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. Ezekiel 20:10

God brought Israel out to vindicate His own Name. However, He restored the Abrahamic Covenant of Grace but Israel "rose up to play" in musical idolatry. Therefore, He turned them over to worship the starry host.

Of the worship Israel was given for their destruction because of their musical idolatry at Mount Sinai, Jamieson, Fausset and Brown note that:

Molech . . . Chiun--"Molech" means "king" answering to Mars [BENGEL]; the Sun [JABLONSKI]; Saturn, the same as "Chiun" [MAURER]. The Septuagint translates "Chiun" into Remphan, as Stephen quotes it (Ac 7:42,43). The same god often had different names.

Molech is the Ammonite name; Chiun, the Arabic and Persian name, written also Chevan. In an Arabic lexicon Chiun means "austere"; so astrologers represented Saturn as a planet baleful in his influence. Hence the Phoenicians offered human sacrifices to him, children especially; so idolatrous Israel also. Rimmon was the Syrian name (2Ki 5:18); pronounced as Remvan, or "Remphan," just as Chiun was also Chevan. Molech had the form of a king; Chevan, or Chiun, of a star [GROTIUS]. Remphan was the Egyptian name for Saturn: hence the Septuagint translator of Amos gave the Egyptian name for the Hebrew, being an Egyptian. [HODIUS II, De Bibliorum Textibus Originalibus. 4.115].

The same as the Nile, of which the Egyptians made the star Saturn the representative [HARENBERG]. BENGEL considers Remphan or Rephan akin to Teraphim and Remphis, the name of a king of Egypt.

Teraphiym (h8655) ter-aw-feme'; plur. per. from 7495; a healer; Teraphim (sing. or plur.) a family idol: - idols (-atry), images, teraphim.

For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd. Zec.10:2

Rapha (h7495) raw-faw'; or 7503 raw-faw'; a prim. root; prop. to mend (by stitching), i. e. (fig.) to cure: - cure, (cause to) heal, physician, repair, * thoroughly, make whole. See 7503.

Raphah (h7503) raw-faw'; a prim. root; to slacken (in many applications, lit. or fig.): - abate, cease, consume, draw [toward evening], fail, (be) faint, be (wax) feeble, forsake, idle, leave, let alone (go, down), (be) slack, stay, be still, be slothful, (be) weak (- en). See 7495.

The Hebrews became infected with Sabeanism, the oldest form of idolatry, the worship of the Saba or starry hosts, in their stay in the Arabian desert, where Job notices its prevalence (Job 31:26); in opposition, in Am 5:27, Jehovah declares Himself "the God of hosts."

the star of your god--R. ISAAC CARO says all the astrologers represented Saturn as the star of Israel. Probably there was a figure of a star on the head of the image of the idol, to represent the planet Saturn; hence "images" correspond to "star" in the parallel clause. A star in hieroglyphics represents God (Nu 24:17). "Images" are either a Hebraism for "image," or refer to the many images made to represent Chiun.

StarofDavid3.gifThe Star of David was originally the secret symbol of the stargazing priests, later adopted by the Israelite Kings David and Solomon and subsequently by the Hebrew people as a whole.

27. beyond Damascus--In Ac 7:43 it is "beyond Babylon," which includes beyond Damascus. In Amos time, Damascus was the object of Israel's fear because of the Syrian wars. Babylon was not yet named as the place of their captivity.

Stephen supplies this name. Their place of exile was in fact, as he states, "beyond Babylon," in Halah and Habor by the river Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes (2Ki 17:6; compare here Am 1:5 4:3 6:14). The road to Assyria lay through "Damascus." It is therefore specified, that not merely shall they be carried captives to Damascus, as they had been by Syrian kings (2Ki 10:32,33 13:7),

but, beyond that, to a region whence a return was not so possible as from Damascus.
They were
led captive by Satan into idolatry, therefore God caused them to go captive among idolaters. Compare 2Ki 15:29 16:9 Isa 8:4, whence it appears Tiglath-pileser attacked Israel and Damascus at the same time at Ahaz' request (Am 3:1).

Tertullian in De Spectaculis notes of Direct Commands and Necessary Inferences

"Though he seems to have predicted beforehand of that just man, that he took no part in the meetings and deliberations of the Jews, taking counsel about the slaying of our Lord,

yet divine Scripture has ever far-reaching applications: after the immediate sense has been exhausted, in all directions it fortifies the practice of the religious life, so that here also you have an utterance which is not far from a plain interdicting of the shows.

If he called those few Jews an assembly of the wicked,

how much more will he so designate so vast a gathering of heathens! Are the heathens less impious, less sinners, less enemies of Christ, than the Jews were then? And see, too, how other things agree. For at the shows they also stand in the way.

"For they call the spaces between the seats going round the amphitheatre, and the passages which separate the people running down, ways. The place in the curve where the matrons sit is called a chair. Therefore, on the contrary, it holds, unblessed is he who has entered any council of wicked men, and has stood in any way of sinners, and has sat in any chair of scorners.

"We may understand a thing as spoken generally, even when it requires a certain special interpretation to be given to it. For some things spoken with a special reference contain in them general truth.

When God admonishes the Isrealites of their duty, or sharply reproves them,
......He has surely a reference to all men;

when He threatens destruction to Egypt and Ethiopia,
...... He surely pre-condemns every sinning nation, whatever.

If, reasoning from species to genus, every nation that sins against them is an Egypt and Ethiopia; so also, reasoning from genus to species, with reference to the origin of shows, every show is an assembly of the wicked.

Tertullian also wrote Chapter XXIII.

Moreover, if sorcerers call forth ghosts, and even make what seem the souls of the dead to appear;

if they put boys to death, in order to get a response from the oracle; if, with their juggling illusions, they make a pretence of doing various miracles;

if they put dreams into people's minds by the power of the angels and demons whose aid they have invited, by whose influence, too, goats and tables are made to divine,-

how much more likely is this power of evil to be zealous in doing with all its might, of its own inclination, and for its own objects, what it does to serve the ends of others! Or if both angels and demons do just what your gods do, where in that case is the pre-eminence of deity, which we must surely think to be above all in might?

Here is the Musical Worship of Molech from an old line drawing.

MolechFlame.jpg

"Sometimes he was represented as a horrible idol with fire burning inside so that what was placed in his arms was consumed. In the above illustration, a heathen priest has taken a baby from its mother to be offered to Molech. Lest the parents should relent, a loud noise was made on drums to hide the screams The word for drums is tophim from which the word 'Tophet,' the place mentioned in verses such as Jeremiah 7:31: ''They have built the high place of Tophet... to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire. While drums sounded, bands played, and priests chanted, human sacrifices were devoured in the flames." (Woodrow, p. 72-73).

The Music Grove Stands for Hell

When Israel came into Canaan they enjoyed "joint meetings" with the idolaters at the groves or high places. It was from these high places that we see the charismatic prophets coming down to meet with Saul as they assisted in "turning him into another man." Of topeth one writer notes that--

"the most probable is its connection with a root meaning 'burning'--'place of burning." (Int Std Bible Ency, p. 2999)

From the evidence we understand that the "music grove" which Solomon established along with the temples of his idolatrous wives, finally became the symbol of hell itself.

Topheth occurs in two places in a striking comparison. In verse 32 it is tambourines or tabrets in the King James Version. In verse 33 it is Topeth. The tabrets with which Satan came equipped are a symbol of punishment and the almost identical word, topheth, is the place which came to stand for hell.

"The Hebrew words are nearly identical; and Tophet was probably the kings 'music grove' or garden, denoting originally nothing evil or hateful. Afterwards it was defiled by idols, and polluted by the sacrifices of Baal and the fires of Molech. Then it became the place of abomination, the very gate or pit of hell." (Smith, p. 960)

"Once the music-grove, where Solomon's singers, with voice and instrument, regaled the king, the court and the city; then the temple of Baal, the high place of Moloch, resounding with the cries of burning infants; then (in symbol) the place where is the wailing and gnashing of teeth." (p. 3313-14, four-volume Smith).

Astrology is one of the primary methods of obtaining a message from the dead.

"Manesseh also cultivated star and planetary worship (II Kings 21:3, 5) and the cult of Moloch, an Ammonite deity, whose worship was closely connected with astral divination (Amos 5:25, 26 Acts 7:41-43) and whose ritual was characterized by parents sacrificing their children by compelling them to pass through or into a furnace of fire." (Unger, Merrill, Archaeology and th]e Old Testament, Zondervan, P. 279)

Isaiah 30 has God promising to punish the Assyrians by describing the musical procession of the Jews to the temple and the valley of Topheth (the king Solomon's music grove) to burn children with musical accompaniment. The goal was to hide the screams of the dying from the mothers and to get an oracle or message from Molech.

I. to sing, Il., etc.:--then of any sound, to twang, of the bowstring, Od.; to whistle, of the wind, Mosch.; to ring, of a stone struck.

As psallo or melody is connected to the harp or bow only in the sense of "plucking" a string. The literally SHOT OUT hymns to kill. In the same way, odeing in the pagan or secular sense "lifted you up" and was destructive. Terefore, this "singing" was so destructive that it is connected to the twang of the bowstring which send panic and then a literal arrow into your heart.

The similar word implicates the rhetoricians and sophists as "sorcerers" and of the Hypocrite sectarians:

Tollo Latin raise up consume in speech making. to lift or take up, to raise, always with the predom. idea of motion upwards or of removal from a former situation. To lift up, raise up, elevate, exalt,

Aeidô is regularly associated to:

Tettix a winged insect fond of basking on trees, when the male makes a chirping or clicking noise by means of certain drums or 'tymbals' underneath the wings. If you see the "ministers of the gods" basking in the sun you know that the locusts have arrived: Plato calls them hoi Mousôn prophêtai. they also became a prov. for garrulity, lalein tettix identifies the speakers in tongues as the LOCUSTS:

Laleô to talk, chat, prattle, babble,
The proper sense, to chatter, is sometimes opposite to articulate speech, as of monkeys, of locusts, to chirp.

Paul identified playing the pipe to speaking in tongue: Laleo speaks of musical sounds, aulôi lalein

Laleo has a meaning similar to:

Babrazô , chatter, chirp, of the grasshopper

Strong though thy beak beyond the feather'd kind,
My
bow shall reach thee. Towards the altar, see,
A swan comes sailing: elsewhere wilt thou move

Thy scarlet-tinctured foot? or from my bow
The lyre of Phoebus to thy notes attuned
Will not protect thee; farther stretch thy wings;

Go, wanton, skim along the Delian lake,
Or wilt thou steep thy
melody in blood.

Look, what strange bird comes onwards; wouldst thou fix
Beneath the battlements thy straw-built nest?

My singing bow shall drive thee hence; begone,
Or to the banks of Alpheus, gulfy stream,
grace
Or to the Isthmian grove; there hatch thy young;

Mar not these pendent ornaments, nor soil
The
temple of the god: I would not kill you:
'Twere pity, for to mortal man you bear
The
message of the gods; yet my due task
Must be perform'd, and never will I cease
My service to the god who nurtured me.

Can we not believe that those who reject the counsel of God in Christ for their lives will meet with "a word of anger" where the Word is God's Spirit which saves or consumes. That "Word" is blown across the wheat as "breath" or "Spirit" to save the wheat but to blow away the chaff which will be gathered and burned up.

Now, what is the record of Christ's "counsel of God for our lives" today:

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
He that believeth
and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that
believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16

What brings the judgment?

The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them:

for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and behold, a
greater than Solomon is here. Luke 11:31

What is the "Spirit" which rested upon Jesus and He will "pour over us"?

AND there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: Isaiah 11:1

And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; Isaiah 11:2

And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: Isaiah 11:3

Next, God through Isaiah condemns the Jews by using the practice of some of them of offering children in human sacrifice to the noise of musical instruments to silence the screams of the children which would be interpreted by the priests as "speaking in tongues" in which God would give them a supernatural messate:

Must ye always rejoice, and go into my holy places continually, as they that keep a feast? and must ye go with a pipe, as those that rejoice into the mountain of the Lord, to the God of Israel Isaiah 30:29 LXX

"The ritual observances at the Hebrew and at a Canaanite sanctuary were so similar that to the mass of the people Jehovah worship and Baal worship were not separated by any well-marked line...

A sacrifice was a public ceremony of a township or clan... Then the crowds streamed into the sanctuary from all sides, dressed in their gayest attire, marching joyfully to the sound of music, and bearing with them not only the victims appointed for sacrifice, but store of bread and wine set forth the feast... Universal hilarity prevailed." (Gurney, O.R., Some Aspects of Hittite Religion, p. 37, Oxford University Press, 1977)

"Many of the Psalms are expressive of the parade dance, or dance procession, in a way which show it to have been the characteristic form of the festival (Psalms 30:12, 87:7, 149:3, 150:4; Is. 30:29) and that this was where many of the Psalms were used." ( W. O. E. Osterley, The Sacred Dance (Cambridge: N. P., 1923), p. 94)

Strabo, Geography: Fourthly, music, which includes dancing as well as rhythm and melody, at the same time, by the delight it affords and by its artistic beauty,

"The cultic dance went on right down to the last days of the Temple. Rabbinic tradition speaks particularly of a torch dance by night at the water pouring ceremony at the Feast of Tabernacles: It was said that the gladness there was above everything. Pious men danced with torches in their hands and sang songs of joy and praised,

while the Levites played all sorts of instruments. The dance drew great crowds of spectators for whom grandstands had been erected. It did not end until the morning at a given sign, when water from the spring of Shiloh was poured over the altar. This is certainly not the invention of later Jewish times, but a very old tradition" ( W. O. E. Osterley, The Sacred Dance (Cambridge: N. P., 1923), p. 94)

But Jesus said that this was not the Water He provided.

brings us in touch with the divine, and this for the following reason;

for although it has been well said that human beings then act most like the gods when they are doing good to others,

yet one might better say, when they are happy; and such happiness consists of rejoicing, celebrating festivals, pursuing philosophy, and engaging in music;
........... for, if music is perverted when musicians turn their art to sensual delights
........... at symposiums and in orchestric and scenic performances and the like,

Peter Lange writes of Isaiah 30: "But the skeleton comes alive and does an ecstatic dance of death in one of Isaiah's greatest poems, a religious song meant to accompany a human sacrifice at the Jerusalem Tophet. Isaiah began preaching in Judah at almost the exact time that the first sacrificial urns were planted in the Carthaginian Tophet.

Such shall be your song, as on a night a feast is celebrated with gladness of heart, as when one marches in procession with the flute, to enter the mountain of Yahweh, to the Rock of Israel. Yahweh has made heard the crash of His voice, the down-sweep of His arm he has displayed, with hot wrath and flame of consuming fire, cloudburst and flood and hailstones. Yes! At the voice of Yahweh Assyria will cower- with His staff He will beat him.

Every passage of the rod of His punishment which Yahweh will lay upon him will be to the sound of timbrels and lyres; with battles of offerings He will fight against him. For his Topheth has long been prepared,

He himself is installed as a victim [molek]. Yahweh has made its fire-pit deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance. The breath of Yahweh, like a torrent of sulphur, sets it ablaze! - Isaiah 30:29- 33

"What's amazing about Isaiah's song is its explicit ritual content, and the undeniable authorship of Yahweh in the torture and immolation of the Assyrian victim, who is probably the great Assyrian conquerer Sennacherib. The Assyrians were threatening the existence of Judah during Isaiah's lifetime, and they succeeded in annihilating the northern kingdom of Samaria (Israel proper). These verses served as the centerpiece of Paul Mosca's Ph.D. thesis at Harvard in 1975, Child; Sacrifice in Israelite and Canaanite Religion." The translation used above is borrowed from Mosca with a few slight changes. It is more explicit than the New English Bible or any other popular text, because Mosca translates mlk as molek that is, sacrificial victim.;" In most traditional renderings of these verses, mlk was translated melek- king.

Perhaps Mosca is right in suggesting that Isaiah was creating a deliberate pun, since, in this nocturnal rite, the victim (molek) is the Assyrian king (melek). But even if this technical term is rejected, Isaiah's poem is clearly about a ritual killing.

The Assyrian is seen as the Tallest Tree in the Garden of Eden. They represent the upward grasping urge to become the god of the world.

The faithful Jews could rejoice when the Assyrians were destroyed. However, they would be destroyed as Judah would later be destroyed and as Jerusalem would be destroyed in AD 70.

This is the same kind of feast which sentenced Israel to destruction by being "turned over to worship the host of heaven." The primary "wandering star" or planet was Saturn which seems to have been more prominent. Saturn is the Molech at Jerusalem or the Chiun at Gerezim condemned by Amos.

And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord. Ex 32:5

The feast is from the Hebrew:

Chag (h2282) khag; or 2283 khawg; from 2287; a festival, or a victim therefor: - (solemn) feast (day), sacrifice, solemnity.
Chaga (h2283) khaw-gaw'; from an unused root mean. to revolve [comp. 2287]; prop. vertigo, i. e. (fig.) fear: - terror.

And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the Lord of hosts, which he hath determined against it. Isa 19:17

Chagag (h2287) khaw-gag'; a prim. root [comp. 2283, 2328; prop. to move in a circle, i. e. (spec.) to march in a sacred procession, to observe a festival; by impl. to be giddy: - celebrate, dance, (keep, hold) a (solemn) feast (holiday), reel to and fro.

John Mark Hicks preaches that the Lord's Supper should be a sacrificial FEAST where God eats with us. It should be, he says, a Jubilee.

To become dizzy from turning around in dance was believed to be the effect of a "god" within. Wine and music created the same effect.

Isa 30:30 And the Lord shall make his glorious voice to be hearrd
and the wrath of his arm, to make a display with wrath and of anger and devouring flame:
he shall lighten terribly, and his wrath shall be as water and bionent hail.

Isa 30:31 For by the voice of the Lord the Assyrians shall be overcome,
even by the stroke wherewtith he shall smit them.

Isa 3032 And is shall happen to him from every side,
that they from whome their hope of assistance was,
in which he trusted, themselves shall war against him in turn with drums and with harp.

This is the kind of feast one holds as a "war" or "victory" dance. That is when the enemy gets you:

And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing (chagag), because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah. 1 Sam 30:16

And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled. 1 Sam 30:17

And now let us cry to Heaven, to see whether he will favor us and
........... remember his covenant with our fathers and crush this army before us today. 1 Macc 4:10
........... Then all the Gentiles will know that there is one who redeems and saves Israel." 1 Macc 4: 11

When the foreigners looked up and saw them coming against them, 1 Macc 4: 12
they went forth from their camp to battle. Then the
men with Judas blew their trumpets 1 Macc 4: 13
and engaged in battle.
The Gentiles were crushed and fled into the plain, 1 Macc 4: 14

They saw that their army had been put to flight, and that the Jews were burning the camp, for the smoke that was seen showed what had happened. 1 Macc 4: 20

So do thou hem in this army by the hand of thy people Israel, and let them be ashamed of their troops and their cavalry. 1 Macc 4: 31
........... Fill them with cowardice; melt the boldness of their strength;
........... let them tremble in their destruction. 1 Macc 4: 32

Strike them down with the sword of those who love thee,
........... and let all who know thy name praise thee with hymns." 1 Macc 4: 33

Then both sides attacked, and there fell of the army of Lysias five thousand men; they fell in action. 1 Macc 4: 34

The Jews fulfilled this army attack upon "Beliar" when they attacked Jesus:

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. Psa 22:14

In the War Rules of the Dead Sea Scrolls

[Now as for you, take courage and stand in the gap, do not fear when God strengthens . . . ] 17-20 [ . . ] Col. 17 land He shall appoint their retribution with burning

When the priests go out into the gap between the battle lines,

seven Levites shall go out with them. In their hands shall be seven trumpets of rams' horns.
Three officers from among the Levites shall
walk before the priests and the Levites.

Then the priests shall blow on the six trumpets of the slain a sharp staccato note to direct the battle,
and the Levites and all the people with rams' horns shall
blow a great battle alarm together in order to melt the heart of the enemy.

Marrying and Giving in Marriage:

After these things it was reported to Jonathan and Simon his brother, "The sons of Jambri are celebrating a great wedding, and are conducting the bride, a daughter of one of the great nobles of Canaan, from Nadabath with a large escort." 1 Macc 9:37

And they remembered the blood of John their brother, and went up and hid under cover of the mountain. 1 Macc 9: 38 -
They raised their eyes and looked,
........... and saw a tumultuous procession with much baggage; and the bridegroom came out with his friends
........... and his brothers to meet them with tambourines and musicians and many weapons. 1 Macc 9: 39

Then they rushed upon them from the ambush and began killing them. Many were wounded and fell, and the rest fled to the mountain; and they took all their goods. 1 Macc 9: 40

Thus the wedding was turned into mourning and the voice of their musicians into a funeral dirge. 1 Macc 9: 41

And when they had fully avenged the blood of their brother, they returned to the marshes of the Jordan. 1 Macc 9: 42

Because Israel rejected the Word of God by using music, God said:

And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence. Amos 8:3

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day. Am.8:10

Israel declared victory because they had restored Egyptian worship hoping the golden calf would lead them back to Egypt and back under bondage: that was their prayer:

And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. Exod 32:6

And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. Exod 15:20

Mechowlah (h4246) mekh-o-law'; fem. of 4234; a dance: - company, dances (-cing).

And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. Ex.32:19

After this, God "turned them over to bondage" to Molech or Chiun or Dagon but did not let them go back to Egypt.

The LXX asks a question. And from the use of the flute we know that the people were not worshiping God. Rather, this processional describes the procession to Topheth where children were burned in the Molech idol. The pipe, never used for religious purposes, is the Hebrew:

Chalil (h2485) khaw-leel'; from 2490; a flute (as perforated):- pipe.

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts:
........... but they regard not the work of the Lord,
........... neither consider the operation of his hands. Is.5:12

Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and
........... mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres:
........... because the riches that he hath gotten are perished. Je.48:36

Chalal (h2490) khaw-lal'; a prim. root [comp. 2470]; prop. to bore, i. e. (by impl.) to wound, to dissolve; figurative to profane a person, place or thing, to break (one's word), to begin (as if by an "opening wedge"); denom. (from 2485) to play (the flute):- gather the grape thereof, take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute, (cast as) profane (self), prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound.

From similar accounts we can see that this rejoicing processional was in celebration over the human agents of Lucifer as God beat them down.

"The Hebrew words are nearly identical; and Tophet was probably the kings 'music grove' or garden, denoting originally nothing evil or hateful. Afterwards it was defiled by idols, and polluted by the sacrifices of Baal and the fires of Molech. Then it became the place of abomination, the very gate or pit of hell." (Smith's Bible Dictionary, p. 960)

"Once the music-grove, where Solomon's singers, with voice and instrument,
regaled the king, the court and the city; then the temple of Baal, the high place of Moloch,
resounding with the cries of burning infants;
then (in symbol) the place where is the wailing and gnashing of teeth." (p. 3313-14, four-volume Smith).

THOUGH I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:3

And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the Lord shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps:and in battles of shaking will he fight with it. Isaiah 30:32KJV

God uses that which people LUST AFTER to destroy them. In the Dead Sea Scrolls a Psalm like Psalm 41 is translated to define the idea that Judas will not triumph over Jesus. They attacked Jesus as Beliar, Beelzebub or Satan using instrumental music to panic Him or "melt His heart." In the end, the military weapons will be turned on those who refused to trust in God's Word.

For thou shalt be required before thy time: has it been prepared for thee also to reign? nay, God has prepared for thee a deep trench, wood piled fire and much wood: the wrath of the Lord shall be as a trench kindled with sulphur. Isaiah 30:33 LXX

For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large:
........... the pile thereof is fire and much wood;
........... the breath (divine inspiration, spirit) of the Lord,
........... like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it. 30:33KJV

The "taskmaster" in Israel during the building of the temple with slave labor was the musical Levites who played loud music to keep people working beyond normal human endurance. He was:

"As Ninus or Nimrod, was worshipped as the son of his own wife, and that wife Aurora, the goddess of the dawn, we see how exact is the reference to Phaethon, when Isaiah, speaking of the King of Babylon, who was his representative, says, "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning" (Isa 14:12). The marriage of Orion with Aurora; in other words, his setting up as "The kindler of light," or becoming the "author of fire-worship," is said by Homer to have been the cause of his death, he having in consequence perished under the wrath of the gods.

That Phaethon was currently represented as the son of Aurora, the common story, as related by Ovid, sufficiently proves. While Phaethon claimed to be the son of Phoebus, or the sun, he was reproached with being only the son of Merops--i.e., of the mortal husband of his mother Clymene (OVID, Metam.).

is the very word from which Eleleus, one of the names of Bacchus, evidently comes. It comes from "Helel," which signifies "to irradiate" or "to bring light," and is equivalent to the name Tithon. Now we have evidence that Lucifer, the son of Aurora, or the morning, was worshipped in the very same character as Nimrod, when he appeared in his new character as a little child.

See Tertullian

He, moreover, was not in the substance of our flesh; but, bringing down from heaven some spiritual body or other, passed through the Virgin Mary as water through a pipe, neither receiving nor borrowing aught thence. The resurrection of our present flesh he denies, but (maintains that) of some sister-flesh. Of the Law and the prophets some parts he approves, some he disapproves; that is, he disapproves all in reprobating some. A Gospel of his own he likewise has, beside these of ours.

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. Isaiah 14:9 KJV

All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? Isaiah 14:10 KJV

Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. Isaiah 14:11 KJV

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Isaiah 14:12KJV
