John 4 Worship in Spirit and in Truth

John 4 Jesus defines worship in the human spirit as opposed to the place of temples or houses. Reading and discussing the Word of God was commanded for the Church of Christ in the Wilderness. This also excluded vocal or instrumental rejoicing or noise making.

It is important that Jesus noted that as true worship was of the Jews, people were already involved in "in the spirit" worship as they attended Synagogue.  This was more codified after the Return from captivity but never ceased to be a WORD OF GOD assembly.  Click for more history of the Synagogue.  Both the Greek civil ekklesia and synagogue were for hearing information, discussing it and reaching a conclusion: neither was permitted to invent or compose material to be discusssed.

See Isaiah 58 which outlaws seeking your own pleasure or speaking your own words.

Ekklesia or synagogue is NOT a worship center so no one probably has an institute Jesus would attend other than to remove the Menorah of his seven Spirits OF Divine knowledge.  The woman at the well gave Jesus more credit then anyone in the Bible. Why? Why, because she was Bible literate probably from attending synagogue of her nation as did many Greeks.

         Acts 15:21 For Moses of old time hath in every city
               them that preach him
               being read in the synagogues
               every sabbath day.

That was exampled by Jesus, exampled and commanded by Paul and practiced by those who called themselves the Church of Christ for almost four centuries until they disobeyed Paul's command and let the poets inside with "singing" as an act added in the year 373 from the Syrians.  The only reason for assembling all of the people in small groups was for instruction.

Neh. 8:2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women,  and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
Neh. 8:3 And he READ therein before the street that was before the water gate
        from the morning until midday, before the men and the women,
        and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive

Neh. 8:4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose...
Neh. 8:5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

Neh. 8:6 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen,  with lifting up their hands [palms]: and they bowed their heads,
        and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground unto the book of the law.

Now, that we know what the pupit was for, how about an approved example from Jesus: The Bible would be opened at the REGULARLY APPOINTED PLACE because you treated God with honesty and did not Cut N paste His Words into songs and sermons.

Luke 4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias.
         And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;
        he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives,
        and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

This would be Spiritual light to heal spiritual blindness: not many were healed physically.

Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Luke 4:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister,
        and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

HERE IS THE DIRECT COMMAND FOR HOW TO CONDUCT SYNAGOGUE

1Tim. 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to [public] reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
Doctrine is teaching is imparting knowledge or the habit producted by instruction. The synagogue explained any unclear passage which had been read. Exhortation means to bring the COMFORTER'S Words to Comfort us (Rom 15)

How you worship Apollo, Abaddon or Apollyon with the muses (Rev 17-18)
Pindar, Pythian 6.[1] Listen! for we are again ploughing the field of dark-eyed Aphrodite, or of the Graces, as we approach the sacred navel of the loud-roaring land; [5] where, for the prosperous Emmenids and Acragas on the river, and especially for Xenocrates, a Pythian victor's treasure -house of songs has been built and is ready in the glen of Apollo, rich in gold. [10][10] It is buffeted by neither the invading onset of winter rain, the loud-roaring cloud's pitiless army, nor the wind that sweeps all kinds of rubble into the depths of the sea. Its facade, shining in pure light, [15] will announce your chariot victory to the speech of men and make it famous--the victory you share with your father and your race..

These things are past. Of men alive today, Thrasybulus [45] more than anyone has approached his father' s standard, [46] and he rivals his father's brother in every splendor. He manages his wealth with intelligence, reaping not an unjust or arrogant youth, but the wisdom found in the quiet haunts of the Pierian Muses. [50] Earth-shaking Poseidon, he is devoted to you, who rule over horse-races, and his thoughts are pleasing to you. His sweet temperament, when he associates with his drinking companions, surpasses even the bee's intricate honeycomb.

"The word that is employed for this "anaginosko, anagnosis) is the technical term for the cultic reading aloud of the Old Testament in the synagogue. By applying this terminology to the reading of his own epistles he not only ascribes the same authority to the apostolic word as to the Old Testament writings...he also combines a quotation from the Old Testament with a word of Jesus and introduces the whole with the familiar formula: 'for the Scripture says.'" Luke XII. Meanwhile, when a multitude of many thousands had gathered together, so much so that they trampled on each other, he began to tell his disciples first of all, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. [2]  But there is nothing covered up, that will not be revealed, nor hidden, that will not be known. [3]  Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light. What you have spoken in the ear in the inner chambers will be proclaimed on the housetops. Luke 20.[46]  "Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts; [47]  who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these will receive greater condemnation."

Isa 1.[10]  Hear the word of Yahweh, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah! [11]  "What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?," says Yahweh. "I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, And the fat of fed animals. I don't delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs, Or of male goats. [12]  When you come to appear before me, Who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? [13]  Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; New moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. [14]  My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts; They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them. [15]  When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. [16]  Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; Cease to do evil. [17]  Learn to do well. Seek justice, Relieve the oppressed, Judge the fatherless, Plead for the widow." [18]  "Come now, and let us reason together," says Yahweh:

"Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
[19]  If you are willing and obedient,
         You shall eat the good of the land;
[20]  But if you refuse and rebel,
          you shall be devoured with the sword;
For the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it."

Jn 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

Jn 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is OF the Jews.
Neither the Jews nor the cursed sacrificial system PRODUCED salvation: Salvation (Jesus) is OUT of the Jews where Salvation in Hebrew is the name of Jesus.
The prepositions in the Greek are far more specific. The Greek word used here is "Ek" (h1537) which means "origin."  The correct translation of this word is “OUT OF” not “of.”

Is. 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen?
        to loose the bands of wickedness,
        to undo the heavy burdens,
        and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

Is. 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry,
        and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house?
        when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him;
        and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Is. 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning,
        and thine health shall spring forth speedily:
        and thy righteousness shall go before thee;
        the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.

Is. 58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.
        If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke,
        the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

Is. 58:10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry,
        and satisfy the afflicted soul; [shouting, singing]
        then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:

Is. 58:11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones:
        and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

Is. 58:12 And they that shall be of thee
        shall build the old waste places:
        thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations;
        and thou shalt be called,
                The repairer of the breach,
                The restorer of paths to dwell in.

Is. 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath,
        from doing thy pleasure on my holy day;
        and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him,
                not doing thine own ways,
                nor finding thine own pleasure,
                nor speaking thine own words:
Is. 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD;
        and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth,
        and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father:
        for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

The MARK of "setting their lies to melodies to better deceive the ignorant" is when they move from TELL or SPEAK to SING or do RHETORIC. ;-) This is the MARK of the effeminate: to make this theoretically impossible the Spirit OF Christ revealed the Mind of God in EPIC and not LYRIC poetry. You CANNOT if your life depended it speak the TRUTH in a singing style. That is how we TRAP false teachers. To their credit, they really don't try.

Therefore there is no WORSHIP in musical rituals in the CHURCH which is a School of the Bible where Jesus teaches and sings when we "sing that which is written with one MIND and one MOUTH" and the preacher teaches "that which HAS been taught." Otherwise, Jesus marks those who speak on their own as sons of the Devil (who now has daughters).
