Hebrews 2:1
Hebrews 2:12 and Psalm 22 are the primary perverted proof-text for replacing teaching with sentimental, empty, usually erroneous "praise." Click to read Psalm 22 including Psalm 109 concerning the musical ATTEMPT to defeat Jesus.Paul wrote--
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things,
in bringing many sons unto glory,
to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. He 2:10
For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, He 2:11
Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren,
in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. He 2:12
For he says in the book of Psalms, "I will talk to my brothers about
God my Father, and together we will sing his praises (hymns)." He 2:12LIV
To use this as proof for exciting singing is to totally miss the point. This is from a Psalm which begins--
MY God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring (moaning) Ps 22:1
Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong (chief) bulls of Bashan have encircled Me. 22:12 (along with the Cows of Bashan in Amos)
They gape at Me with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion. 22:13
For dogs (male prostitutes) have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; Ps 22:16
Save Me from the lion's (piercing) mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me. Ps 22:21NKJV
The horn or coronet was a symbol of a mountain or power. Psalm 41 prophesied that Judas would not TRIUMPH over Jesus. This word includes "blowing wind instruments and making a joyful noise before the Lord." This was not worship but the warrior's sounding holocaust.
There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. Eze.22:25
Remember that the Jews "piped" hoping to get Jesus to do the Dionysic choral dancing and singing. Being a male this would mark Him out as a homosexual priest consistent with all priesthoods. They hoped, Jesus said, that John wore the soft clothing of a king's catamite or male homosexual.
Therefore, when the bulls MOCKED Jesus they were doing so with the warrior music which had been organized under David as KING and the commanders of the army to pollute or prostite the enemy by causing their heart to melt like wax. This was prophesied of Judas (whose bag carried the mouthpieces of wind instruments) in Psalm 41. The translations found at the Dead See make it clear that the TRIUMPH OVER or MOCKING of Jesus was with military instruments alluded to in 1 Corinthians 14 to define singing self-composed songs in their own virtually unknown dialect.
The strong bulls were the chief priests. The lifted themselves up above Christ--
Reem (h7214) reh-ame'; from 7213; a wild bull (from its conspicuousness): - unicorn
Raam (h7213) raw-am'; a prim. root; to rise: - be lifted up.
They gaped or tore at Him with their mouths. They tore pieces from Him off. The raging is very similar to the words associated with external melody--
Tarap (h2963) taw-raf'; a prim. root; to pluck off or pull to pieces; causat. to supply with food (as in morsels): - catch, * without doubt, feed, ravin, rend in pieces, * surely, tear (in pieces).
SOP is: psocho (g5597) pso'-kho; prol. from the same base as 5567; to triturate, i.e. (by anal.) to rub out (kernels from husks with the fingers or hand): - rub.
Psocho (g5597) pso'-kho; prol. from the same base as 5567; to triturate, i.e. (by anal.) to rub out (kernels from husks with the fingers or hand): - rub.
Psallo (g5567) psal'-lo; prob. strengthened from psaoÑ , (to rub or touch the surface; comp. 5597); to twitch or twang, i.e. to play on a stringed instrument (celebrate the divine worship with music and accompanying odes): - make melody, sing (psalms)
The musical clergy of paganism and even Judaism was highly infiltrated with homosexual priest-musicians practicing what is called "the effeminate art." The congregation where Jesus would preach and praise God was the synagogues because there were no Christian congregations. Jesus went there to witness against the raging bulls.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. Ps 22:14
He speaks as one spread on the wheel or drum frame. They stretched your hide on the frame and used the baton to beat you to death--
Tumpanizo (g5178) toom-pan-id'-zo; from a der. of 5180 (mean, a drum, 'tympanum"); to stretch on an instrument of torture resembling a drum, and thus beat to death: - torture. (Vine says it was the tyre typanum).
This described the women who were tortured just as Jesus must have been to have His bones out of joint:
Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection. He 11:35
And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: He 11:36
Read the account of this literal torturing by making men like the stretched hide on a drum frame. Then they took a "rod" or "baton" and beat them to death.
Mocking is from the Greek--
Empaigmos (g1701) emp-aheeg-mos'; from 1702: derision: - mocking.
Empaizo (g1702) emp-aheed'-zo; from 1722 and 3815; to jeer at, i.e. deride: - mock.
Clapping of hands was a primary show of contempt. In Hebrew it is used for blowing a trumpet to create the startle reflex, or to driving a tent peg into the head of a sleeping man.
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. Mt 27:27
And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. Mt 27:28
and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. Mt.27:29
Mocked is what they may be doing in your own church as Christ is mocked by singing those songs which He did not inspire and which -- almost always -- teach lies about Him. Play or mock is:
Paizo (g3815) paheed'-zo; from 3816; to sport as a boy: - play.
Paul warned the Corinthians that they were close to the musical play which destroyed Israel at Mount Sinai when they "rose up to play." This is defined as singing and sporting with musical instruments.
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 1Co.10:7
And David and all the house of Israel played (7832) before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. 2S 6:5
Paidion (g3813) pahee-dee'-on; neut. dimin. of 3816; a childling (of either sex), i.e. (prop.) an infant, or (by extens.) a half- grown boy or girl; figurative: an immature Christian..
They are like unto children sitting (hanging out) in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. Lk 7:32
Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. 1Co.14:20
The Jewish clergy were repeating ancient fertility rituals which had become games of play. By forcing Jesus to lament (as in lamenting for Bacchus or Dionysus--see Eph 5:18-18) they would triumph over Him and implicate Him in a pagan ritual. This would surely disqualify Him as the Messiah of Whom it was predicted that He would not get involved in these street rituals. Those who tried to force Jesus to join (including Judas) were the ministers of the high priest. This, of course, involved women who accused Peter:
Pais (g3816) paheece; perh. from 3817; a boy (as often beaten with impunity), or (by anal.) a girl, and (gen.) a child; spec. a slave or servant (espec. a minister to a king; and by eminence to God): - child, maid (-en), (man) servant, son, young man.
The bulls were not literal and therefore the horns of these "chief bulls" are not literal animal horns. Rather, the horns were the "wind instruments" by which the clergy, and Judas their agent, would try to triumph over Jesus. They are defined as--
Qeren (h7161) keh'-ren; from 7160; a horn (as projecting); by impl. a flask, cornet; by resemblance, an elephant's tooth...
Qeren (g7162) keh'-ren; corresp. to 7161; a horn literal or for sound: - horn, cornet.
This word is used in Daniel where the Babylonian clergy tried to triumph over the faithful Jews--
That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: Da.3:5
The golden image, of course, was a giant phallic (penis) form. To fall into this form of worship was to be polluted or prostituted.
Paul replaced the Old Testament halal whichwas very often self-praise or even madness with hymning or praying to Him.
Paul does not say that Jesus will jump, shout, clap or be giddy as an Old Testament form of praise. Rather, He will "grieve out" or teach the Word without allowing Himself to get out of control and have Satan triumph over Him-
Apalgeo (g524) ap-alg-eh'-o; from 575 and Algeo , to smart; to grieve out, i.e. become apathetic (can mean calm or unperturbed or past feeling)
That is what David understood. He also understood that his writing, singing and playing was not PATTERNISM for either Hebrew of Christian "worship" which is internal:
Create in me a clean (holy) heart, O God; and renew a right (upright) spirit within me. Ps.51:10
Do not cast me from your presence or take your holy spirit from me. Ps 51:11
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it. Ecc 8:8
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Ps.51:17
In Psa 22:22 the word praise means "boast about God" but the Jews often praised by boasting of themselves. In a parallel statement, praise is t˙hillaÇh and means to laud God with a hymn. This word removes of all of the destructive meanings of halal. The statements of Jesus are often quoted from the Septuagint which translates a clearer message--
I will declare (announce, tell) thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise (humneso) thee. Ps 22:22
Ye that fear (cringe before) the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. Ps 22:23
There is nothing in this to permit the madness of children playing musical games or "making a joyful noise before the Lord" which was a warrior's chant in all national armies: "My god is stronger than your god."
Believers SHRINK BEFORE GOD because of a hostile word but worship by going into the Most Holy place of darkness and silence were one priest at a time comes boldly before the throne of God in the mind or spirit.
Declare is:
Apagello (g518) ap-ang-el'-lo; from 575 and the base of 32; to announce: - bring word (again), declare, report, shew (again), tell.
Aggelos (g32) ang'-el-os; from aggello, [prob. der. from 71; comp. 34] (to bring tidings); a messenger; esp. an "angel"; by impl. a pastor: - angel, messenger
This does not mean to entertain but to do the work of an evangelist
Euaggelizo (g2097) yoo-ang-ghel-id'-zo; from 2095 and 32; to announce good news ("evangelize") espec. the gospel: - declare, bring (declare, show) glad (good) tidings, preach (the gospel).
Sing is:
Apalgeo (g524) ap-alg-eh'-o; from 575 (to smart); to grieve out, i.e. become apathetic: - be past feeling
Anah (g578) aw-naw'; a prim. root; to groan: - lament, mourn.
Charismatic singing attracts those seeking ENTERTAINMENT but Christian singing is done in holy reverence before a God Who will not tolerate being mocked by being a MODEL or IDOL of what worship should be by singing their own songs with the MARK of brass on their FOREHEAD.
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. Ps 22:24
My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him. Ps 22:25
The meek (poor in mind, gentle) shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever. Ps 22:26
The meek such as Paul praised in the sense of making a fool of himself as he went out to try to teach the seed of Jacob. To praise is to tell what God has done in God's words. Then,
All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. Psalm 22:27
Shachah (h7812) shaw-khaw'; a prim. root; to depress, i. e. prostrate (espec. reflex. in homage to royalty or God): - bow (self) down, crouch, fall down (flat), humbly beseech, do (make) obeisance, do reverence, make to stoop, worship.
PLEASE DON'T TRY TO DO THIS AS A LEGALISTIC ACT OF WORSHIP FOR 20 SECONDS ON SUNDAY MORNING.
This is fulfilled by Jesus in Capernaum--
And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. Mk 1:21
And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. Mk 1:22
And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Mk 1:23
Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. Mk 1:24
This proved that He was their Messiah Who could do what all of the singing, dancing, drum thumping and harp playing could not do. He literally cast our a demon. However, they never changed their minds to murder Him.
Judas, as Satan's agent, will not triumph over Jesus--
Psalm 109 and 41 are prophetic of Judas as Satan standing at Christ's right hand. Judas as Satan's agent would attack Jesus in ways we do not completely understand. However, Judas would not triumph over Jesus as Israel was not to triumph over the Word of God--
All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. Ps 41:7
WHISPER speaks of the hissing of the brass-colored serpent or Nachash which was not a snake but a musicah enchanter.
An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. Ps 41:8
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. Ps 41:9
But thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. Ps 41:10
By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. Ps 41:11
To triumph over in Greek carries the same idea. It means a noisy song sung to "frighten the enemy" (or congregation) and to "set them on fire." The purpose was to excite the army and panic the enemy to gain victory over them. Noisy music has this exact purpose and effect even when it sounds "exciting"--
Thriambeuo (g2358) three-am-byoo'-o; from a prol. comp. of "to frighten" and "to fasten to set on fire." meaning a noisy iambus, sung in honor of Bacchus); to make an acclamatory procession, i.e. (fig.) to conquer or (by Hebr.) to give victory: - (cause) to triumph (over).
Scholars believe that Judas was trying to "panic" Jesus into taking up His role as military leader to triumph over the Roman army. It is interesting, therefore, that the bag which Judas, the thief of Satan, carried was the mouthpiece bag or box which, in the Classics, is never seen except along with the flute, the flute bag and the naked musician:
Glossokomon (g1100) gloce-sok'-om-on; a case to keep mouthpieces of wind-instruments in) i.e. by extension, a casket or (spec.) purse: - bag.
This is derived from the words meaning:
1. Speaking in tongues and
2. Of the adorning world or kosmos (Satan's realm)
This word is related to the Greek which illustrates what the triumph condemned and the triumph over which would not work on Jesus. The following words are connected to the work of Judas. The method of the world religion is shown in a word from which kosmos is derived--
Chathath (g2865) khaw-thath'; to prostrate; hence to break down, either (lit.) by violence, or (fig.) by confusion and fear: - abolish, affright, be (make) afraid, amaze, beat down, discourage, (cause to) dismay, go down, scare, terrify.
Music has always been a way to triumph over others either religiously, sexually or especially in the heat of battle. When the clergy Levites and priests blew and "stormed" upon hundreds of zithers it created a booming, clainging, hissing sound like an innumerable host of warriors. The thing to do would be to turn tail and retreate because of panic.
Judas was the agent of Satan's who is the world ruler--
Kosmokrator (2888) kos-mok-rat'-ore; a world-ruler, an epithet of Satan: - ruler.
He uses his hand or agent to take told of mankind with power--
Krateo (g2902) krat-eh'-o; from 2904; to use strength, i.e. seize or retain (lit. or fig.): - hold (by, fast), keep, lay hand (hold) on, obtain, retain, take (by).
John accused the Jews with being vipers. This is the literal snake while Satan is the enemy.
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Mt 3:7
Jesus accused them of the same thing.
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Mt 12:34
The viper which represents Satan is connected to a word meaning "possessed by" a spirit: a soothsayer--
And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination (python spirit) met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying (raving madness as in Corinth): Ac 16:16
Ezekiel spoke of Hebrews who looked to God and Ezekiel as the musical revealer of new things from the "gods." This was almost identical to those who tried to triumph over Jesus to force Him to dance to their tune--
My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion (Lord, Lord as amorousness - inordinate love), but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain (commerce or trade). Eze 33:31
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Mt 11:15
Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs (minstrel as a prostitute) with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well,
And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. Mt 11:17
for they hear your words but do not put them into practice. Eze 33:32
But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, Mt 11:16
When all this comes true--and it surely will--then they will know that a prophet has been among them." Eze 33:33
Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: Mt 11:20Jesus Will Not Call Noisy Assemblies
Jesus is not a soothsayer or worker of magic at the demand of the "worshipper." He refused to follow in the paths of those who sounded trumpets to show how generous they were. And He refused to call mass meetings by loud excitement. Rather, He went out where the people may have gathered.Isaiah prophesied of Messiah--
BEHOLD my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. Is 42:1
He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. Is 42:2
To "cry" is to call an assembly--
Caaq, tsaw-ak'; to shriek; by implication; to proclaim an assembly: call together, cry out, gather selves together.
Nor will He lift up--
Nasa (h5375) naw-saw'; to lift, able to armour, bring forth, burn, carry away, exalt self, extol, hold up, lade, lift self up, marry, magnify, stir up, take away...
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Jn.15:2
Airo (h142) ah'ee-ro; a prim. verb; to lift; by impl. to take up or away; fig. to raise (the voice), keep in suspense (the mind); spec. to sail away (i.e. weigh anchor); by Heb. [comp. 5375] to expiate sin: - away with, bear (up), carry, lift up, loose, make to doubt, put away, remove, take (away, up).
The Hebew word NASA means to be lifted up:
And it shall come to pass in the day that the Lord shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve, Isaiah 14:3
That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! Isaiah 14:4
The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. Isaiah 14:5
He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth. Isaiah 14:6
This word is similar to the "praise" with instruments in many psalms.
Halal, haw-lal'; make sound, to shine; hence to make a show, to boast; and thus to be clamorously (brassy) foolish; to rave, to celebrate; make boast of self, celebrate, commend, glory, feign self mad, give in marriage, be worthy of praise, rage, renowned, shine.
Psalm 22 above forsaw this as teaching the Word and not a collective sign of insanity.
Music was often used "to call the gods to their temples." This is illustrated by the priests of Asherah and Baal who tried to "arouse" their gods to defeat the God of Elijah. However, God is in His holy temple (His people), He has taught and our task is to come before Him in reverence to hear what He has to say--
Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. Hab 2:19
But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence (hold the tongue) before him. Hab 2:20
In the end, Jesus would triumph over His enemies:
For the kingdom is the Lords: and he is the governor among the nations. Psa 22:28
All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul. Psa 22:29
Psalm 22 Words: The Scottish Psalter 1 My God, my God, why hast thou me forsaken? why so far Art thou from helping me, and from my words that roaring are? 2 All day, my God, to thee I cry, yet am not heard by thee; And in the season of the night I cannot silent be. 3 But thou art holy, thou that dost inhabit Isr'el's praise. 4 Our fathers hop'd in thee, they hop'd and thou didst them release. 5 When unto thee they sent their cry, to them deliv'rance came: Because they put their trust in thee, they were not put to shame. 6 But as for me, a worm I am, and as no man am priz'd: Reproach of men I am, and by the people am despis'd. 7 All that me see laugh me to scorn; shoot out the lip do they; They nod and shake their heads at me, and, mocking, thus do say, 8 This man did trust in God, that he would free him by his might: Let him deliver him, sith he had in him such delight. 9 But thou art he out of the womb that didst me safely take; When I was on my mother's breasts thou me to hope didst make. 10 And I was cast upon thy care, ev'n from the womb till now; And from my mother's belly, Lord, my God and guide art thou. 11 Be not far off, for grief is near, and none to help is found. 12 Bulls many compass me, strong bulls of Bashan me surround. 13 Their mouths they open'd wide on me, upon me gape did they, Like to a lion ravening and roaring for his prey. 14 Like water I'm pour'd out, my bones all out of joint do part: Amidst my bowels, as the wax, so melted is my heart. 15 My strength is like a potsherd dry'd; my tongue it cleaveth fast Unto my jaws; and to the dust of death thou brought me hast. 16 For dogs have compass'd me about: the wicked, that did meet In their assembly, me inclos'd; they pierc'd my hands and feet. 17 I all my bones may tell; they do upon me look and stare. 18 Upon my vesture lots they cast, and clothes among them share. 19 But be not far, O Lord, my strength; haste to give help to me. 20 From sword my soul, from pow'r of dogs my darling set thou free. 21 Out of the roaring lion's mouth do thou me shield and save: For from the horns of unicorns an ear to me thou gave. 22 I will shew forth thy name unto those that my brethren are; Amidst the congregation thy praise I will declare. 23 Praise ye the Lord, who do him fear; him glorify all ye The seed of Jacob: fear him all that Isr'el's children be. 24 For he despis'd not nor abhorr'd th' afflicted's misery; Nor from him hid his face, but heard when he to him did cry. 25 Within the congregation great my praise shall be of thee; My vows before them that him fear shall be perform'd by me. 26 The meek shall eat, and shall be fill'd; they also praise shall give Unto the Lord that do him seek: your heart shall ever live. 27 All ends of th' earth remember shall, and turn the Lord unto; All kindreds of the nations to him shall homage do: 28 Because the kingdom to the Lord doth appertain as his; Likewise among the nations the Governor he is. 29 Earth's fat ones eat, and worship shall: all who to dust descend Shall bow to him; none of them can his soul from death defend. 30 A seed shall service do to him; unto the Lord it shall Be for a generation reckon'd in ages all. 31 They shall come, and they shall declare his truth and righteousness Unto a people yet unborn, and that he hath done this.
