Russ Adcox More Thoughts
On Silence
If Russ Adcox decides that musical instruments--machines for
doing hard work--are imposed into a peaceable Church of Christ
then everyone must SUBMIT and remain SILENT. History knows
no better way of forcing a following than to stand as ANTI
whatever it is that people are upset about.
There is no command, example or remote inference of God calling
people into assembly to WORSHIP: Worship compels a Believer to
most often FALL ON THEIR FACE in Reverence and Godly Fear.
No one, including David, ever WORSHIPPED by preaching,
listening, singing, playing instruments, acting or PAY FOR PLAY.
Godly Jews were quarantined to their own settlements on sabbaths
or REST DAY. They could not go to Jerusalem where the
Civil-Military-Clergy were PROFANING the Sabbath because they
had already been abandoned to WORSHIP the Starry host.

and gave them up to

as it is written in the
book of the prophets,
O ye house of

sacrifices
by the space of forty
years in the wilderness?
Amos 5:27 Therefore will I cause you to go into
captivity beyond Damascus,

is The God of hosts.

An Elder PRO instrumentalists concluding that
Instrumental music is ok
but WE decide to be a cappella
Russ, according to the pattern, portrays the
ANTI-instrumentalists as so wicked that YOU surely must be
PRO-instrumental. Too bad, that the proof texts normally used
fails to READ the Word. Otherwise, they would know why
there is not a remote musical concept in the whole Bible or
early church history connected to the spiritual people of God
whom He Quarantined from the regular pagan and the sacrificial
system
The Spirit OF Christ in Jeremiah defines the blasphemy of The
Holy Spirit OF Christ as saying that God says something he did
not say: it was just the imagination of the falseteachers.
Russ
keeps assuring the people that the Psallo type words
(from Psao base or SOP) INCLUDES THE USE of musical
instruments.
The Greeks had COMPOUND
WORDS when they wanted to speak of singing TO a harp or Playing + a
named harp. EACH
instrument had its own compound word.
If you presume that Psallo (meditate, grace) contrary to all
evidence is the SILENCE which authorized people to impose
instruments and sow massive discord then you DO despise God in
Christ and that is called blasphem.
Psallo at no time or place in recorded history MEANT to play a
harp and "melody as tunefulness belongs to the 19th century. It
means to pluck or SMITE a string or hair with your FINGERS but
NEVER with a plectrum. The Psallo word OUTLAWS the guitar
player with a pick. You cannot psallo a drum, flute or MAKE
music in any sense. Psallo as PLUCK as used by the NACC
writers is always connected with older males (Alexander the
Great) plucking a lyre trying to seduce a young male whose hairs
had been PLUCKED. Psallo was associated with Apollo
(Abaddon, Apollyon) and the Muses (dirty adulteresses) as his
musical worship team. In Revelation 18 John calls the SORCERERS
as indeed all musical concepts spoke of enchantment, soothsaying
(Miriam and the Levites) or Sorcery (the speakers, singers,
instrument players under the Babylon Mother of harlots (Rev

That's the Law of Silence was invented by the
Disciples-Christian Churches. See H. Leo
Boles quoting W.R. Walker, in Christian Standard,
The other
alternative that many took, and still advocate, is to place
the organ in the "area of silence" or
in the field of expediency.
But if there is no stronger reason for using the instrument
than the opinions and judgments of men, it is sinful
to force the use of the instrument in worshiping upon God's
people. If it is placed in the field of opinion and judgment
of men, not only may it be abandoned, but should be, for
it invades the realm of divine revelation.
God's
children, to be loyal to his word, must oppose
the use of the instrument in the worship. Those
who use the organ in worship make it "a test of
fellowship"; they sustain the attitude that if you do
not submit to the use of the instrument in worship,
then you can have no fellowship with us.
A denial of
making it "a test of fellowship" does not change
the logic of the situation; neither does the charge
that those who oppose the use of the instrument in worship
are disturbers of the peace and unity of
God's people make it true; the charge is not a proof of
the fact. Those who oppose the use of the instrument in
worship are walking by faith in opposing it, but
those who introduce it are making it "the test of
fellowship."
Demosthenes On the Embassy 19. [232] With this example before his
eyes, who, men of Athens,
will ever wish to
prove himself an honest man, or to go on embassy for
nothing,
if he
is neither to make money nor to be held more
worthy of your confidence
than
those who have made money?
Today you are not merely adjudging this case: you are legislating
for all future time,
whether every ambassador is basely to serve your
enemies for hire,
or
without fee or bribe to give his best service to you.
Russ Adcox:
I was raised with the idea that Biblical silence was
always restrictive. The phrase
“we are silent where the Bible is silent” meant that our
church didn’t employ any practice that was
not specifically mentioned in the New Testament.
God is never
Silent. Jesus said that God HIDES from the wise or
SOPHISTS: speakers, singers, instrument players, actors or
PAY FOR PLAY.
Not permitting
others to IMPOSE something because there is no law which
says "thou shalt not impose" floods the text of
the Bible and all churches which claim or want to be
Apostolic. That has always guarded against those who
have no love for the Word of God: He sends strong
delusions. The signs of Lying Wonders is:
2Th. 2:9 Even him, whose coming
is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and
lying wonders,
2Th. 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in
them that perish;
because
they received not the love of the truth, that they might be
saved.
2Th. 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong
delusion,
that
they should believe a lie:

The Law of
Silence taught by the Spirit of Christ and all historic
scholars has been that a Church must be APOSTOLIC. Because
they understood that Ekklesia or Synagogue NEVER
originated any new information. Any discussion must
be based on what is handed down from a HIGHER
AUTHORITY. If the NACC law of silence was obeyed
then they have the power to TRUMP the Spirit OF
Christ in the Prophets and the prophecies made more
certain by Jesus of Nazareth. The church is built
upon the Prophets and Apostles with Christ Jesus being the
AUTHOR and FINISHER of the spiritual teaching in the
prophets.
Jesus died to be
come the ONLY mediator between God and Man and He
therefore has FINISHED the teachings to be used in the
only ASSEMBLY that anyone has the right to call.
The universal Law
of Silence is that Christ has spoken and commanded that we
teach and observe what HE commanded. Christ defined the
REST day both inclusively and exclusively:
Christ
defined how HE is MOCKED and SMITTEN by Musical
Performers
You
should not PAY for the free water of the Word Isaiah
55 where Word is defined as SPIRIT or the Mind of
Christ.
He
defined the Law of Silence in Isaiah 57 which
includes both man speak and woman speak.
You
are commanded NOT to seek your own pleasure (music) or
SPEAK your own words. in Isaiah 58
Russ Adcox: Of
course we were fairly inconsistent in our application of
that principle, but that’s besides the point.
The older
preachers were scholars and not performers. They knew that
the Purpose Driven Church is centered on the Word
of God. They were ethical enough not to
allow little Jimmy Jump Up beat on his drums when the
Preacher was trying to speak what Jesus commanded to be
taught. Contrary to the silliness, no one objected
to HOUSES: they are exampled in the Old Testament and the
meaning of EKKLESIA and by Jesus going INTO the houses and
READING the Word. They knew that PEWS would not
hinder the teaching of the WORD. They even knew that
bathrooms and toilet tissue do not SILENCE the voice of
Jesus Christ.
Russ Adcox:
The point was that silence primarily forbids
rather than permits.
There’s nothing wrong with that approach.
What’s wrong is demanding that all other churches take
the same approach,
and if they don’t, branding them as people that don’t
really care about God’s Word.
No Disciple of
Christ is remotely interested in what others do; the rub
comes when, as boasted, people infiltrate and use devious
means to SUBVERT other people's congregation. That is
the meaning of HERESY or SECTARIANISM.
INSTRUMENTAL NOISE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE MARK THAT "GOD HAS
BEEN THERE AND WILL NEVER PASS BY AGAIN."
AMOS-8
I suspect that common reverence and understanding
that Jesus died to be OUR WORD or rational discourse.
They understood that the instrumentalists built upon
the foundation of THE LAW OF SILENCE which they
perverted. They were closer to the Standard's Purpose Driven
urge to "take Tennessee for the Society and Organ party."
They knew that the NACC founded in 1927 had as its MISSION
forcing peaceable churches to join the PARTY and become
dues-paying members to the society. Even children could be
LIFE MEMBER long before Jim Bakker.
Those older and godly people knew that IMPOSING instruments
and the Society based on SILENCE which must not be disputed
was contrary to the Word of God and common ethics.
The christian church PREACHERS has just confessed that HE
had another understanding contrary to all recorded history.

instead SILENCE the voice of the Victim. Music was
always called SACRED VIOLENCE and the mark of the
effeminate domination by the Mother Goddess.
"Although the sermon was not an essential part of the synagogue service, the translation
and explanation of the Scripture lesson was a step in the
direction of a preaching service. There is evidence that
an exposition of the lesson formed a part of the Sabbath afternoon
service. In earliest times the sermon seems to have been connected with
the reading from the Prophets. Anyone able
to instruct might be asked to preach (Acts 13:15). The preacher
spoke from a sitting position on an elevated place (Luke 4:20). (feiffer,

House).

Thomas
Campbell: "who, at the same time are ignorant of, and even averse to, the religion it inculcates; and whilst others profess
to embrace it as a system of religion,
without imbibing the spirit, realizing the truth, and experiencing the power of its religious
institutions; but merely superstruct to themselves, rest in, and are satisfied
with, a form (acts) of godliness; and
that, very often, a deficient, imperfect form, or such as their own imagination has devised;
"let us, with an open bible before us, distinguish and contemplate
that religion which it enjoins and exhibits--I mean the
religion of christianity, for it also exhibits the
religion of Judaism;
.. .but with this, in the mean
time,
. ..we christians have nothing directly to do--
...we derive our religion
immediately from the New Testament. TC
"The principle of this
holy religion within us, is faith, a correspondent faith; that
is, a belief, or inwrought persuasion by, and according
to, the word
of truth,
in all points
corresponding to the revelation which God has
made of himself through Jesus
Christ by the Spirit. Hence, being rooted and grounded
in the truth
of this revelation, by faith in the divine testimony,
we contemplate and worship God inwardly;
that is, adore and reverence him in our souls, according to the
characters and attributes under which he has revealed himself to
us.
Thus we worship the
Father, through the Son, by the Spirit, relying upon his teachings in and by the word, to lead us into all the
truth which he has testified for our edification and
salvation;
and also upon his internal influence to excite, instruct,
and comfort us, by the truth; to help our infirmities,
and to enable us to think and pray as we ought, both as
to the matter and manner of our prayers. See Rom. viii. 26, and Jude 22, 21, with a multitude
of other scriptures.
Thus we have the internal religion, the habitual worship of the real
believer, the sincere bible-taught christian with its
principle; which is the faith above described. See Rom. x. 12-15.
That was not an
issue until the Disciples-Christian churches INVENTED the
Law of Silence that THEIR opinion let them impose machines
for making noise and work and Choirs who just embarassed
everyone. They insisted as Russ seems to be doing
that this becomes the AUTHORITY of Jesus Christ and YOU
must not object.
Russ Adcox: When we
had our combined worship with the Christian church
their pastor talked about great sayings from our heritage
(we both come from the Restoration movement).
The Church of
Christ under that name and NEVER approving of complex
singing or instrument have always existed. Because the
command is to SPEAK that which is written. And NONE of the
Bible is METRICAL. None of it COULD BE or was sung
in a tuneful sense. Therefore, to say OUR HERITAGE is a
put-down word pretending that all historical scholars
recognized only Christ's right to SPEAK and everyone else
must be SILENT.
Russ Adcox: He
included the saying “we are silent where the Bible
is silent.” That might have surprised some of our folks. How
could he use that phrase?
Wouldn’t it mean he
should give up the instrument?
Not necessarily.
He
gave me a different understanding of the quote.
How did this
preacher GET an understanding that permits him to do
something known to sow discord and without a command,
example or remote inference? And how did he TRUMP all
recorded scholarship (Bible based and not theology). His
sp;iritual ancestors did not NEED any authority from
ANYONE because they denied that Scripture cannot be
ammended by church councils, the direct operation of the
Holy Spirit, and TRADITIONS of the culture.
Russ Adcox: If
the Bible is silent on something we shouldn’t take that
issue and make it an essential doctrine.
That is NOT speaking where the Bible speaks: that is
presumptious pride in one's own ability to HEAR the Father
when the Son said that YOU cannot.
But he DOES claim that Scripture is silent (to Him)
and yet he takes that issue and makes it such an essential
doctrine that he willl hold "unity" meetings twisting all of
the instrument passages PROVING that the Jacob-cursed and
God-abandoned Levite Soothsayers is HIS command to impose
"instrumental praise."
But, the NACC presumed that God in Christ was SILENT:
that should disqualify anyone from going beyond the command to
PREACH the Word by READING the Word and discussing
it: Speaking out loud and MEDITATING in the heart (spirit)
Next, the
NACC took something they THOUGHT that the Spirit
OF Christ was silent about and IMPOSED it
knowing that they would sow massive discord which IS one
of those things God hates along with "songs in the holy
places" (Amos)
They made IMPOSING
INSTRUMENTS an essential since anyone who dared
refute them were told to shut up or get out says
J.W.McGarvey. The Spirit OF Christ said that to say that
the Word says something which it does not say is to
DESPISE the Word or blaspheme the Holy Spirit of Christ.
Jer 23:14 I have seen also in the prophets

thereof as Gomorrah.

They have made a
profession in "unity movements" to peel off week preachers
by their white paper listing all of the "instrument"
passages in the Bible even when Miriam was in Egypt a

Stephen) had turned over to worship the starry host
BECAUSE of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.

The Christian Church minister BELIEVES that God commanded
"instrumental worship in the sacrificial system." However,
when you use your IMAGINATION to define SILENCE when God
shouts you should maybe not spead false teachings.

accompaniment and dance figures depicting the Graces,
the Horae, and the Nymphs, I believe that they
would be far less wearied themselves and that the charms
of the banquet would be greatly enhanced.”
The NACC has
always insisted that no one has the right to question
their contact with "the spirit".
J.W.McGarvey's
That a vast amount of evil has been occasioned by the introduction
of instrumental music into Christian worship is
undeniable.
Beginning with the first instance of it among us which I can
remember that which caused
a schism in the church
in St. Louis in the year
1869 (Our Note:1851 Midway KY by a liberal over
the physical objections of the elder),
its progress has been
attended by strife, alienation,
and division,
with all their attendant
evils, in hundreds of
congregations.
Before this it had bred
similar
evils among Methodist
societies and Baptist and Presbyterian churches; for all these bodies in their early days
knowing that the practice originated in the Roman Catholic Church, regarded it as a Romish corruption
and refused to tolerate it until it was forced upon
them by the spirit of
innovation which
characterized the present century.
Now it is obvious that
these evils, the baleful effects of which will never be fully revealed until the day of judgment,
> must be charged either
against those who have introduced the instrument
> or
against those who have opposed its introduction.
I begin by arguing that
the practice belongs to a class of things expressly
condemned in the New
Testament.
Jesus said in reference
to certain additions
which the Pharisees had made to the ritual of the law: "In vain do they worship me, teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men." In these words he propounds the doctrine
that all worship is vain which
originates in human authority; or, to put it negatively, that no worship
is acceptable to God which he himself has not
authorized.
Paul echoes this teaching when he condemns as "will
worship" the observance of, ordinances "after the precepts and doctrines of men." (Col. 2: 20-23, R. V.) The Greek word
here rendered "will worship" means
worship
self-imposed, as
distinguished from worship imposed by God;
and the practices referred to in the context are
condemned on this ground, thus showing that all
self-imposed worship is wrong in the sight of God.
If they IMPOSE an
instrument into J.W.McGarvey's
church then HE would be guilty of sowing discord
if they allowed HIM to question their Biblical knowledge
or ethical conduct.
This inclination developed
into action in the city of St. Louis in the year 1869,
when the congregation meeting on Olive Street, in a building
purchased from the Episcopalians with a pipe organ in it,
resolved to use the organ in its worship,
whereupon a considerable number of prominent and
influential members withdrew and held meetings
elsewhere.
The affair awakened intense interest throughout the
brotherhood, and was regarded as seriously imperiling
the unity that had hitherto prevailed in the body at
large. Prudent counsels however were brought to bear, and
the parties to the division in St. Louis were
induced to call in a Committee of eminent brethren to adjudge
the case, and decide [p. 63]
what should be done. The Committee consisted of Robert
Graham, Isaac Errett, Alexander Procter and J. K.
Rogers.
They decided that the use of the organ should be discontinued,
and that the members
who had withdrawn should thereupon resume their
places in the church.
Peace for awhile prevailed and it was generally hoped
that the controversy would spread no farther. But
after a few months the members of the St. Louis church
who favored the
organ obtained letters of withdrawal,
organized another
congregation,
and resumed the use of
the instrument.
Russ Adcox: Instead
we should also be silent on it and not allow our
opinions to divide us.
In other words,
regardless of how you view silence,
you shouldn’t
make it a matter of fellowship or salvation.
The issue is not
SILENCE: All bible students understand that direct
commands and the meaning of EKKLESIA or A School
of Christ prohibit "vocal or instrumental rejoicing
including high-sounding rhetoric. Not even Simple Simon
would impose his drum set into a Class on how to cut up a
frog.
To the law and to
the testimony:
if they
speak not according to this word,
it is
because there is no light in them. Isa 8:20
Russ Adcox
wants us to be SILENT and submit to HIS opinions.
We have seen the result of speaking out. The WILL
silence anyone who simply reads and discuss the text.
Russ Adcox: We
shouldn’t draw lines in the sand based on what God has not
said. If He didn’t feel the need to comment on it then why
do we? I think the exact words were “where the Bible speaks,
we speak; where the Bible is silent, we shut up.”
That's exactly
what Jesus Comanded and the historic church practiced
before SINGING as an act was imposed in the year 373 and
preaching about the same time.
The DISCORDERS
who arrogantly SEE something out of his own imagination
which God says is only evil continually then the DISCORDED
persons must SHUT UP. Pretty arrogant. The Christian
church owned THE LAW OF SILENCE and when they had reached
a conclusion THAT BECAME the Word of Christ. H.
Leo Boles denied that as a right in the 1939
effort to Infiltrate and Divert churches of Christ to
shame them into becoming INSTRUMENTAL to make unity
possible.
THIS WAS
INVENTED BY THE CHRISTIAN CHURCHES AND IS CONTRARY TO
ALL HISTORICAL EVIDENCE
God
in Christ PRESUMES to have the authority to
COMMAND that we teach what HE commanded to be taught
and observed.

XXXII.-The Doctrine of the Christians, is Opposed to
Dissensions, and Fitted for All.
But with us there is no desire of
vainglory, nor do we indulge in a variety of
opinions.
For having renounced
the popular and earthly,
and obeying the commands of God,
and following the law of the Father of immortality,
we
reject everything which rests upon human opinion.
Not only do the rich among us pursue our
philosophy,
but the poor enjoy instruction
gratuitously,
(
[Compare cap. xi. p. 69. And note, thus early, the Christian freeschools, such as Julian closed and then
imitated, confessing their power.])
for the things
which come from God surpass the requital of worldly
gifts.
Thus we admit all who desire to
hear, even old women and striplings; and, in short, persons of
every age are treated by us with respect, but every kind
of licentiousness is kept at a distance.
How about
me telling you that the Spirit OF Christ said
that the marks in sight and sound of God driving His
enemies into "hell" will be wind, string and percussion
instruments.
Must ye always
rejoice,
and go into my holy places continually,
as they that keep
a feast?
and must ye go with a pipe, as those that rejoice into
the mountain of the Lord, to the God of Israel Isaiah
30:29 LXX
and the Lord shall make
his glorious
voice to be heard and the wrath of his arm, to make a display with wrath and anger and devouring flame: he shall lighten terribly, and his wrath shall be as water and violent hail. Isaiah 30:30 LXX
For by the voice of the
Lord the Assyrians shall be overcome, even by the stroke where with he shall smite
them. Isaiah 30:31 LXX
And it shall happen to
him from every side, that they from whom their hope of
assistance was, in which he trusted, themselves shall war against him in turn with drums and with harp. Isaiah 30:32 LXX
For thou shalt be
required before thy time: has it been prepared for thee also to
reign?
nay, God has prepared for thee a deep trench, wood piled fire and much wood: the wrath of the Lord shall be as a trench kindled with sulphur. Isaiah 30:33 LXX
"We may understand a
thing as spoken generally, even when it requires a
certain special interpretation to be given to it. For
some things spoken with a special reference contain in
them general truth.
When God admonishes the
Isrealites of their duty, or sharply reproves
them,
He has surely a
reference to all men;
when He threatens destruction to
Egypt and Ethiopia,
He surely
pre-condemns every sinning nation, whatever.
If, reasoning from species
to genus, every nation that sins
against them is an Egypt and Ethiopia; so also,
reasoning from genus to species, with reference to the
origin of shows, every show is an assembly of the
wicked.
These
are the instruments Lucifer brought with him-her-it when
CAST AS POFANE (that praise concept) out of Heaven. He
said the same thing in Revelation when John says that the
"self-speakers, singers and instrument players are
SORCERERS and they will be cast alive into the Lake of
Fire.

"The spirits were thought to speak in murmurings or piping sounds (Isa
8:19), which could be imitated by the medium
(ventriloquist)...Most spiritual and popular was the
interpretation of dreams.
It also was the
case that mediums intentionally would convert themselves into a semi-waking trance. In
this way the suitable mediums attained to a certain kind of
clairvoyance, found among various peoples. This approaches the condition
of an ecstatically aroused pseudo-prophet.. In Greece, too, oracles were
pronounced by the Phythian prophetess who by vapors and the like was
aroused to a practice of the mantic art. (Int Std Bible

ALL musical terms especially connected to
always-pagan worship rituals (ceremonial legalism) point
directly to sorcery or witchcraft. That is because of the fact
that musical tones create the impulses of Fight, Flight or
Sexuality. The Purpose Driven Churches USE
musicians--especially female--because they KNOW that they can
arouse the people and make them want to return and especially
participate--says Carol Wimber--the second ACT of extortion
called the Giving of Substance. Plato and others knew why they
used SILENCE to attract the Seekers (a Hitler word) to "take
away their kingdom."
