The ONLY meaning of WORSHIP:

Josh. 5:14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua
       FELL ON HIS FACE to t
he earth,
        and did WORSHIP, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
Dan. 2:46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar
FELL ON HIS FACE, and
WORSHIPED Daniel,
        and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.
2Chr. 20:18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground:
        and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem
        FELL BEFORE THE LORD
        WORSHIPING THE LORD.

1Cor. 14:25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest;
        and so FALLING DOWN ON HIS FACE
        will WORSHIP God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
Rev. 7:11 And all the angels stood round about the throne,
        and about the elders and the four beasts,
        and FELL before the throne on their faces,
        and WORSHIPPED God,
Rev. 11:16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats,
        FELL UPON THEIR FACES and WORSHIPPED God,

God turned Israel over to worship APOLLYON and the starry host and that is what they worshipped. After rejecting God He gave them kings in His anger and took them away in His anger. Neither king, kingdom, temple, animal sacrifices or the loud Levites making noise was commaned by God.  When the moderns reject God's Word He abandons them to the same losing work trying to appease their gods.  Christ ordained the Qahal, synagogue or Church of Christ in the wilderness: that never changed from being a school of the Word as it has been delivered to us.

The first two reasons assert that under the Old Testament, God did not just allow instrumental music, He commanded and blessed it. Rick offered the following passages for these contentions: 2 Chronicles 5:13-14; 7:6; 29:25-26; Psalm 33:1- 3; 92:1-3; 150:1-6.

Jesus defined Holy Scripture as the Prophets and other prophecies "CONCERNING ME."

THE ONLY ACT OF WORSHIP IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

  WHY JOHN T. WILLIS AND THE POST-BIBLICAL THEOLOGIANS CANNOT BE CHRISTIANS.

John 8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you:
        but he that sent me is true;
        and I SPEAK to the world those things which I have HEARD of him.
John 8:27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
John 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them,
        When ye have lifted up the Son of man,
        then shall ye know that I am he,
        and that I do nothing of myself;
                but as my Father hath TAUGHT me,
                I SPEAK these things.

GOD as masculine never taught Jesus to SING any of His Words.

John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me:
        the Father hath not left me alone;
         for I DO always those things that PLEASE him.
John 8:30 As he spake these WORDS, many believed on him.
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him,
        IF ye continue in my WORD, THEN are ye my disciples indeed

Never mind that the godly tribes were quarantined. No singer or player went INTO or NEAR a holy thing or place on the penalty of death. Some of these patterns are separated from the last by up to 300 years.

CHRIST IN THE PROPHETS WARNED ABOUT THE LYING PEN OF THE SCRIBES.

Jeremiah 7 and the Law of Silence

Stand in the gate of the Lords house [courts], and proclaim there this word,
        and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah,
        that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord. Jeremiah 7:2

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,
        Amend your ways and your doings,
        and I will cause you to dwell in this place. Jeremiah 7:3

Trust ye not in lying words, saying,
        The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord,
        The temple of the Lord, are these. Jeremiah 7:4

Jer. 8:8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is WITH US?
        LO, CERTAINLY IN VAIN MADE HE IT;
        THE PEN OF THE SCRIBES IS in vain.

For I spake NOT unto your fathers, nor commanded them
        in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt,
        concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: Jeremiah 7:22
Jer. 7:23 But this thing commanded I them, saying,
        Obey my voice, and I will be your God,
        and ye shall be my people:
        and walk ye in all the ways  [Road, Pattern]
        that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
Jer. 7:24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear,
        but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart,
        and went backward, and not forward

Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on John,

That the Pharisees puffed up unto strange boasting,
        were wont to pretend that the Divine Word was with them and in them,
        and therefore foolishly affirmed that they had advanced to marvellous wisdom,
        the Spirit Itself will testify,
        since Christ says by the Prophet Jeremiah unto them,
                How do ye say, WE are wise, and the word of the Lord is with us?
                For nought to the scribes became their lying pen;
                the wise
men were ashamed, were dismayed and taken;
                what wisdom
is in them? because they rejected the word of the Lord.

For how are they not taken rejecting the Living and Hypostatic Word of God,
         receiving not the faith to Him-ward,
         but dishonouring the Impress of God the Father,
         and refusing to behold His most true Form (so to say)
         through His God-befitting Authority and Power?

THE PROPHECIES BY CHRIST WERE FULFILLED BY JESUS CHRIST: JESUS AND PETER MAKES THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS THE ONLY TRUTH.

John 6:44 No man can come to me,
        except the Father which hath sent me draw him:
        and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:45 It is WRITTEN IN THE PROPHETS
        And they shall be all taught of God.
        Every man therefore that hath heard,
        and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

2Pet. 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words
        which were spoken before by the HOLY PROPHETS
        and of the commandment of us the APOSTLES of the Lord and Saviour:

IT WAS THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST WHO SPOKE THROUGH THE PROPHETS AND NOT LYING SCRIBES whom He called hypocrites by naming speakers, singers and instrument players in Ezekiel 33.

    1Pet. 1:10 Of which salvation the PROPHETS have inquired and searched diligently,
            who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
    1Pet. 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time
            the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify,
            when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ,
            and the glory that should follow.

God did NOT speak through the lying pen of the Scribes who recorded the Monarchy which God had NOT commanded.

Heb. 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners
        spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb. 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us BY HIS SON
        whom he hath appointed heir of all things,
        by whom also he made the worlds;
Heb. 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory,
        and the express image of his person,
        and upholding all things by the WORD of his power,
        when he had by himself purged our sins,
        sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high

THOSE WHO DELIBERATELY SOW DISCORD BY QUOTING THE LYING PEN OF THE SCRIBES (hypocrites: speakers, singers, instrument players) are defined by the Spirit:

Jer. 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
        Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you:
        they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart,
        and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

Jer 23:17 They say still unto them that despise me,
        The Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace;
        and they say unto every one that walketh
        after the imagination of his own heart,
        No evil shall come upon you.

Despise tthe Word of God of God and using your own words is:

Blasphēm-eō , pf. A. “beblasphēmēka” D.18.10:—speak profanely of sacred things, “eis theous” Pl.R.381e; offer rash prayers,

1. Because Christ as Spirit spoke ONLY through the prophets.
2. Those who use use the pattern of the Lying Pen of the Scribes, in fact despise and ignore the SPIRIT message.
3. Christ in Jeremiah defines that as blasphemy

Hebrew: H5006 nâ’ats naw-ats' A primitive root; to scorn; abhor, (give occasion to) blaspheme, contemn, despise, flourish, X great, provoke

Melody {Zamar or Melos} means to "cut the text into syllables" so that a one or two note chant can chant the Scriptures.  There is nothing musical or tuneful in Scripture and until after John Calvin.

There are no "worship" gatherings with a command to cause everyone to sing with or without instruments. I dread to repeat this but Paul and everyone commanded that we SPEAK the Biblical Text.

Very few of those Paul called corruptors of the Word or "selling your learning at retail" know that SABBATH was a day or REST and NEVER for a Day of Worship.  Most Jews such as older men, boys and women never went to Jerusalem where the Temple or Ziggurat (tower of Babel) kept their "covenant with death and hell) behind city gates. The Festivals were for "Muster-Age men" much like "Summer Camp." Priests and Levites probably served the slaughter and HOLOCAUST  two weeks out of the year.  They were locked into temple grounds and the temple part of the tithe gave them a once each day food allowance.

The Godly people were prevented to travel on the REST day and could assembly for education only.

h4744.Miqra.gif

Even Gentiles were Wise Unto Salvation because they attended Synagogue which was opposite of the most common Sun (Apollyon etc) worship on the seventh days.  Christiians probably met early or late on the First day which was NOT for Rest until Constantine.  There was no "standing army" at the synagogue although schools became common.

Acts 15:21 For Moses of old time
        hath in every city
        them that PREACH him, being READ in the synagogues every sabbath day.

Sabbath or the Greek PAUO is widley dedicated to mean STOP all of the rhetorical, musical or scenic action always marked by females or effeminate males and intended to DIVERT everyone's attention to them.

John 12:48 He that rejecteth ME,
        and receiveth not my
WORDS [mark of rebellion and treachery]
        hath one that judgeth him:
        the
WORD that I have SPOKEN,
        the same shall judge him in the last day.
John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am IN the Father,
        and the Father in me?
        the
WORDS that I SPEAK unto you
        I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Worship and the Hebrew Bible: Essays in Honor of John T. Lewis by
Richard R. Marrs, Steven L. McKenzie.

There is no reason that Publishing Theologians ever subscribe to the Word, Logos or Regulative Principle.  This opens up the ability to read long passages beyond trying to find tidbits of what those OF the World.   Jesus said that God HIDES from the WISE or sophists personal opinion, personal experiences, rhetoric, singing, playing instruments, acting or collecting a FEE.  A Disciple of Christ would have no urge beyond the command to elders to "teach that which has been taught."

Worship defined by those "seeing godliness as a means of financial gain" is a large gathering of the "laity" led by a clergy with authority to sing, play instruments, preach and collect commanded contributions to support the performers.  There is not a single command, example or remote inference in any of the COLLECTED volume of 66 books or any of the numerous documents written during the "biblical" time.

We know that the people brought their Abominations like the nations from Egypt.  God saved them by Grace when they Obeyed at the Red Sea. God proposed to speak directly to the people but they demanded an INTERCESSOR.  This was a fatal error and caused Moses to promise "Another PROPHET like me" would have to come before a tiny remnant would hear Him: This was the Christ Whom a small "WAY that is called a SECT" would hear God as WORD when Jesus made God's Voice both Visible and Audible.  The Jews as a nation decided not to hear Him.

Aristotle: Melody Deceives: "Poets also make use of this in inventing words, as a melody "without strings" or "without the lyre"; for they employ epithets from negations, a course which is approved in proportional metaphors..

The form of diction should be neither metrical nor without rhythm.
 If it is metrical, it lacks persuasiveness, for it appears artificial, and at the same time it distracts the hearer's attention, since it sets him on the watch for the recurrence of such and such a cadence..

According to Philo, the gods of the pagans exploit this weakness of men. For the sake of a better effect, and with the intention of more easily cheating their devotes, that they have set their lies to melodies, rhythms and meters.." Click for more.

The idea suggested by proskunoimen and hieron, that the poet is a sort of theos or theios [god or goddess] anēr, is now elaborated with ironical politeness. The images of the gods were anointed, and crowned with garlands, not only on great occasions (cf. Cic. Verr. IV 77), but also at other times, according to Proclus, who remarks on this passage muron autēs (sc. tēs poiētikēs) ...Apropos of the present passage, Dio Chrysostom and other ancient writers cited by Ast refer to the anointing of swallows by Greek women: kai keleuei mala eirōnikōs (so Ast: MSS eirēnikōs) stepsantas auton eriō kai murō katakheantas aphienai par' allous: touto de hai gunaikes epi tōn khelidon ōn poiousi (Dio Chr. To this custom Ast supposes that Plato is alluding, the poets being as it were faithless and garrulous swallows (cf. khelidonōn mouseia), as well as to the Pythagorean precept ‘not to admit swallows into the house’

Would that I could go to Cyprus, the island of Aphrodite, where the Loves, who soothe [405] mortals' hearts, dwell, and to Paphos, fertilized without rain by the streams of a foreign river flowing with a hundred mouths. Lead me there, Bromius, Bromius, god of joy who leads the Bacchae, [410] to Pieria, beautiful seat of the Muses, the holy slope of Olympus. There are the Graces, there is Desire; there it is [415] lawful for the Bacchae to celebrate their rites.

Pind. I. 8 Even when he was dead songs did not forsake him; beside his pyre and tomb the Muses of Helicon stood, and poured over him the many-voiced dirge. It proved to be the will of the immortals [60] to make a noble man, even when dead, a theme for the hymns of goddesses; and even now this brings up a subject for words, and the Muses' chariot rushes forward to shout praises in memory of Nicocles the boxer. Honor him, who won the garland of wild Dorian celery in the Isthmian valley; since [65] he too was once victorious over all that lived around him, battering them with his inescapable hands. He is not dishonored by the offspring of his father's distinguished brother. Therefore let another young man weave for Cleandros a garland of tender myrtle in honor of the pancratium, since the contest of Alcathous and the young men of Epidaurus welcomed him before in his success. A good man may praise him, [70] for he did not restrain his youth, keeping it hidden in his pocket1and ignorant of fine deeds.

Pind. N. 8 [40] Excellence grows among skillful and just men up to the liquid air, as a tree shoots up fed by fresh dew. The uses of friends are of all kinds; those in times of toil are the highest, yet delight also seeks to set a trustworthy pledge before the eyes. Megas, to bring your soul back to life again [45] is not possible for me. Empty hopes end in vain; but it is easy to set up, for your fatherland and for the Chariads, a monument of the Muses in honor of the twice illustrious feet of two men. I rejoice in letting fly a boast suitable to such a deed; and with incantations a man [50] makes hardship painless. Truly, the song of victory existed long ago, even before the quarrel arose between Adrastus and the race of Cadmus.

Revelation 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Revelation 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

As a result, on the Day callled Sabbath or REST, many gathered as rabble to engage in feasting and "Instrumental-Trinitarian-Perverted" PLAY.  Almost all of the same "foreordained" would again repudiate God's Word, Logos or Regulative Principle, and PLAY.

Jude 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation,
        it was needful for me to write unto you,
        and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend
        for THE FAITH which was ONCE delivered unto the saints.
The eye-- and ear--witness of men like Peter left us his PART of the Perfected Prophets, and outlawed private interpretation or Further Expounding.
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein,
        he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

The end-time fulfillment came as "Purpose Driven Cultist" began the boasted "Infiltrate and Divert" your congregation into a Musical SECT.

Jesus called trinitarians BLASPHEMERS John 10
John called trinitarians ANTICHRISTIANS
Jude now says of those who CREPT IN TO TURN YOUR ASSEMBLY INTO AN INSTRUMENTAL SECT.

Jude 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares,
        who were before of old ordained to this condemnation,
        ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness,
        and denying the only Lord God,

Jude 5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this,
        how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt,
        afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Jude 6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Jude 7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Jude 8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

Individuals Worship: groups cannot worship.

Worship is IN THE SPIRIT or Mind in contrast to IN A HOUSE or on a MOUNTAIN

God is not Juliet and needs no Romeo.

God never defines A Worship Assembly where people perform rituals: in the pagan mind the rituals were to appease, seduce or even threaten the gods if they did not meet their needs.   When fear was induced by the Jacob-Cursed and God-Abandoned Levites making instrumental noise, the assembled Civil-Military-Clergy reresentatives FELL ON THEIR FACE in mortal fear. The service of the Levites is called Abadoh which is derived from Apollo, Abaddon or Apollyon as Jewish Worship of the starry host (acts 7).  The creating or casting down the heavens and earth (types of people) in Sumeria happened c. BC 4000: Moses moved backward after Israel fell into musical idolatry of the always-pagan trinity at Mount Sinai.  He began a history of God bringing LIGHT (intelligence) out of DARKNESS (Ignorance) and God removed The Book of the Covenant of Grace (Abrahamic with no clergy) and sentenced them back to Babylon for captivity and death. The record of the history of many nations culminates or culminated c ad 2000 with the unleashing of Abaddon or Apollyon as the king of the locusts which means the Leader of the Muses.

For a LITTLE FLOCK  Jesus died to silence the Laded Burdens (anxiety producing ceremonies with instrumental noise) and the Burden Laders so that individuals can give their attention to God revealed only through His Word.  Music from mystery means to "make the lambs dumb before the slaughter." The religionists such as priests and Levites is THE definition of a PARASITE.

The Praise Leader is probably the world's oldest professional and they probably made use of the world's second oldest professional to fleece the simple minded.  In Babylon or in Jerusalem it was claimed that they had god in a box in a temple. Because the gods were dangerous you must pay specialists or "ministry staff".
Arnobius writing (A.D. 297-303) Ridicules instrumental music in worship and Charismatic Worship as idolatrous.
In the temple the god was present in--but not bounded by--a statue made of precious wood overlaid with gold. For this statue the temple kitchen staff prepared daily meals from produce grown or raised on the temple's fields, in its orchards, in its sheepfolds, cattle pens, and
game preserves, brought in by its fishermen, or delivered by farmers owing it as a temple tax. The statue was also clad in costly raiment, bathed, and escorted to bed in the bedchamber of the god, often on top of the temple tower, or ziggurat. [David's naked dance around the Ark of the Covenant was in his mind becoming vile (halal) before his god who was not Jehovah)

To see to all of this the god had priests trained as cooks, bakers, waiters, and bathers, or as encomiasts (singers of praise), musicians and prostitutes [grinders at the millstone]

to make the god's meals festive, or as elegists to soothe him in times of stress and grief. Diversions from the daily routine were the great monthly festivals and also a number of special occasions.

The words insanir, m bacchari, refer to the appearance of the ancient seers when under the influence of the deity. The meaning is, that they make their asserverations with all the confidence of a seer when filled, as he pretended, with the influence of the god." (Arnibious, Ante-Nicene, VI, p. 413)

Livy on a History of Rome defines the Bacchanalibus or "new wineskins" worship

"The making of inquisition concerning clandestine meetings was decreed to both the consuls. A Greek of mean condition came, first, into Etruria, not with one of the many trades which his nation, of all others the most skillful in the cultivation of the mind and body, has introduced among us,

but a low operator in sacrifices, and a soothsayer;
nor was he one who, by open religious rites,
and by publicly professing his calling and teaching,
imbued
the minds of his followers with terror,
but a priest of
secret and nocturnal rites.

These mysterious rites were, at first, imparted to a few,
but afterwards communicated to great numbers, both men and women.

To their religious performances were added the pleasures of wine and feasting, .
to allure a greater number of proselytes.

When wine, lascivious discourse, night, and the intercourse of the sexes had extinguished every sentiment of modesty, then debaucheries of every kind began to be practiced, as every person found at hand that sort of enjoyment to which he was disposed by the passion predominant in his nature.

Nor were they confined to one species of vice---the promiscuous intercourse of free-born men and women;but from this store-house of villainy proceeded false witnesses,
........counterfeit seals (marks), false evidences, and pretended discoveries.

From the same place, too, proceeded poison and secret murders, so that in some cases, not even the bodies could be found for burial. (Ac 19:19; Rev 9:21; 18:23; Rev 21:8. Rev 18 connects this to the musicians of the end-time Babylonian Whore religion)

Many of their audacious deeds were brought about by treachery, but most of them by force;
it served to conceal the violence, that, on account of the
loud shouting, and the noise of drums and cymbals,
none of the cries uttered by the persons suffering violence or murder could be heard abroad.

When any person was introduced he was delivered as a victim to the priests, who led him away to a place

resounding with shouts, the sound of music, and the beating of cymbals and drums, lest his cries, while suffering violation, should be heard abroad."

Jesus called the MEN of that generation children or BOYS: they Piped hoping that Jesus would lament or dry out and dance.  This would have initiated him into the Gay Priesthood because history notes that the Jews hoped that Dionysus would be their messiah.

Music is still used to silence the voice of those suffering violence by the introduction of neo-Bacchus or Dionysus "wineskin" worship. See the attempt to "Mark" Jesus with the Seal of Dionysus to "triumph over" Him with Music.

In radical contrast God's assembly is called a Qahal, Ekklesia, Synagogue or Church of Christ (the Rock).  You can fall on your face which God does not need or you can bow and submit to God's message to mankind.  The assembly of Christ first defined in the wilderness is

EXCLUSIVE of vocal or instrumental rejoicing or elevated rhetoric.
INCLUSIVE of Rest, Reading the Word and Rehearsing the Word.
Acts 15:21 For Moses

Jesus stood up to READ the Biblical Text and decently and in order SAT down.  John T. Willis and the elders PRAY for an understanding and claims some level of "inspiration." Certainly none of the "worship sectarians" give any honor to the limitations of the assembly to being a reading assembly from the wilderness onward.  Progress was made among early English closet protestants when they held secret Prophesying Sessions: they understand that prophesying in the godly sense was FORTHTELLING that which was written.  You "use one mind and one mouth to speak that which is written for our learning" or "Scripture for our Comfort" (Romans 15) with the hypocritic artists of rhetoric, singing, playing or acting outlawed by the SELF-pleasure.
1Tim. 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to [public] reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

"The word that is employed for this "anaginosko, anagnosis" is the technical term for the cultic reading aloud of the Old Testament in the synagogue. By applying this terminology to the reading of his own epistles he not only ascribes the same authority to the apostolic word as to the Old Testament writings...he also combines a quotation from the Old Testament with a word of Jesus and introduces the whole with the familiar formula: 'for the Scripture says.'" (Ridderbos, Hermon, Paul, an Outline of His Theo., Eerdmans, p. 483)

You don't just grasp a Bible-void sermon off the internet: you read and repeat and repeat the Word of God because worship is uniquely giving heed to God through His Word: don't believe doctors of the law who get inspiration to impose what he always believed and used to sow discord.

John T. Lewis operates from presumed SILENCE and therefore DESPISES the only Christian Documents and Christ in Jeremiah 23 says that saying God told you to do something He did not tell you is BLASPHEMY.

In Isaiah 8 the Church is promised as an umbrācŭlum a school or safe house FROM the sellers of the free water of the word.  The Spirit OF Christ continues to BREATH into Isaiah. Note that the Spirit OF Christ (1 Peter 1:11).  The LAWS OF CHRIST are not the LAWS OF MOSES imposed because of the musical idolatry of the Egyptian trinity a torah but NOT the Law of Moses nor the Laws of the God-abandoned Civil-Military-Clergy complex Christ called robbers and parasites.

The Campbells who were Bible Readers defined:
Church is A School of Christ
Worship is Reading and Musing the Word.

Only pagans or Idol Worshipers including the Jews held sacrificial assemblies which God did not command (Isaiah 1; Jeremiah 7)

But this thing commanded I them, saying,

> Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people:
> AND WALK  ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. Jer 7:23

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. Jer 7:24

John T. Willis Instrumental Melody claims that: Sing and make melody" was a very common practice throughout the history of God's people. These two practices are inseparable as one 2. "Sing" is vocal; "make melody" is instrumental. Psalms 33:2-3; 144:9; 149:1, 3 make this crystal clear. Amos 5:23 further verifies this reality.

Amos 5:23 further verifies this reality.

Amos 5:23 Take thou away from me the [1] NOISE of thy SONGS;
         for I will not hear the

Amos 5:24 But [instead of] let judgment run down as waters,

Pind. I. 7   In which of the local glories of the past, divinely blessed Thebe, did you most delight your spirit? Was it when you raised to eminence the one seated beside Demeter of the clashing bronze cymbals, flowing-haired [5] Dionysus? Or when you received, as a snow-shower of gold in the middle of the night, the greatest of the gods, when he stood in the doorway of Amphitryon, and then went in to the wife to beget Heracles?

But since ancient grace sleeps, and mortals are forgetful of whatever does not reach the highest bloom of skillful song, joined to glorious streams of words, [20] then begin the victory procession with a sweet-singing hymn for Strepsiades;

        and the star of your god Remphan

        and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

JFB 7. beyond Damascus--In Ac 7:43 it is "beyond Babylon," which includes beyond Damascus. In Amos time, Damascus was the object of Israel's fear because of the Syrian wars. Babylon was not yet named as the place of their captivity.

Stephen supplies this name. Their place of exile was in fact, as he states, "beyond Babylon," in Halah and Habor by the river Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes (2Ki 17:6; compare here Am 1:5 4:3 6:14). The road to Assyria lay through "Damascus." It is therefore specified, that not merely shall they be carried captives to Damascus, as they had been by Syrian kings (2Ki 10:32,33 13:7),

but, beyond that, to a region whence a return was not so possible as from Damascus.
They were
led captive by Satan into idolatry, therefore God caused them to go captive among idolaters. Compare 2Ki 15:29 16:9 Isa 8:4, whence it appears Tiglath-pileser attacked Israel and Damascus at the same time at Ahaz' request (Am 3:1
MOST IF NOT ALL MUSICAL DISCORDS SAY THAT AMOS IS CONDEMNING ONLY A BAD MENTAL ATTITUDE: WE CAN GO AHEAD AND USE AMOS AS AUTHORITY FOR NEO-LEVITES AS OUT SACRIFICIAL MUSICIANS.

Molech . . . Chiun--"Molech" means "king" answering to Mars [BENGEL]; the Sun [JABLONSKI]; Saturn, the same as "Chiun" [MAURER]. The Septuagint translates "Chiun" into Remphan, as Stephen quotes it (Ac 7:42,43). The same god often had different names.

Molech is the Ammonite name; Chiun, the Arabic and Persian name, written also Chevan. In an Arabic lexicon Chiun means "austere"; so astrologers represented Saturn as a planet baleful in his influence. Hence the Phoenicians offered human sacrifices to him, children especially; so idolatrous Israel also. Rimmon was the Syrian name (2Ki 5:18); pronounced as Remvan, or "Remphan," just as Chiun was also Chevan. Molech had the form of a king; Chevan, or Chiun, of a star [GROTIUS]. Remphan was the Egyptian name for Saturn: hence the Septuagint translator of Amos gave the Egyptian name for the Hebrew, being an Egyptian. [HODIUS II, De Bibliorum Textibus Originalibus. 4.115].

The same as the Nile, of which the Egyptians made the star Saturn the representative [HARENBERG]. BENGEL considers Remphan or Rephan akin to Teraphim and Remphis, the name of a king of Egypt.

The Spirit OF Christ in Isaiah 30 as a Prophtic Sign says that the marks in sight and sound of God driving His enemies into "hell" will be the wind, string and percussion instruments.  He also says that Lucifer was cast as profane (Chalal, halal) into the garden as the singing and harp-playing prostitute.  She had the wind, string and percussion instruments. God will destroy the musical idolaters just the way the Jews went in instrumental procession to Jerusalem to burn up infants as a sacrifice to Molech.  The "authentia" or authority word Paul silenced in 1 Timothy 2 includes records of these women having children specificially to offer as human sacrifices.  Paul warned about giving bodies to be burned in 1 Corinthians 13 in connection with the Lifeless Instruments he equated to speaking in gibbberish tongues.

Brandon.Scott.Thomas.Molech.Col.Wiki.gif

John T. Willis and the band of Musical Discorders also use the Levites at Hezekiah's plague-stopping ceremony and in other places as their PATTERN for saying that a spirit or an answered prayer told them that this meant that God COMMANDED them to impose instruments.

“Solomon, under the influence of his idolatrous wives, built high places for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom, the abomination of the children of Ammon. See CHEMOSH. Because of this apostasy it was intimated by the prophet Ahijah, that the kingdom was to be rent out of the hand of Solomon, and ten tribes given to Jeroboam (1 Kings 11:31-33). These high places survived to the time of Josiah, who, among his other works of religious reformation, destroyed and defiled them, filling their places with the bones of men (2 Kings 23:12-14).”

AS THE END-TIME FULFILLMENT OF THE PROPHETIC TYPE

The Babylon mother of harlots (Revelation 17) uses lusted after fruits (same as in Amos 8) as any religious craftsman, singer or player of the same instruments: John calls them sorcerers and they will be (are) cast alive into the lake of fire.

JESUS DIED TO ORDAIN A SAFE-HOUSE: A SCHOOL OF HIS WORD ONLY. IF YOUR GROUP USES SPIRITUAL TERRORISM TO PICK YOUR POCKETS NOT WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO LEAVE THE CULT

That is consistent with the changed NACC stance that God commanded instrumental praise and we must not be disobedient. Melody is a series of single notes: that has never changed.  You can PLUCK a series of single tones on a harp but it would not sound like our do re me.  Music demands singing and playing an instrument and almost without exception dancing. There is no command, example or inference that any of God's people performed music as a group worship activity.  The worship word in the New Testament is to give heed or attention to PREACHING the Word by READING the Word without any changes.

We will show that God turned Israel over to worship the starry host and that is what they worshipped.

5.05.11 Rather than focus on the book  I will look at the context of the proof-texts. It should be noted that most of these were one time events and did not include the general congregation. Like Catholicism and most ancient systems, the clergy performed the worship on behalf of God and kept a continuous presence to guarantee that the contact was not lost.

I have posted some context for these proposed examples for those who would like the seach the Scriptures for themselves. The blue links are to off site papers, definitions or literature.

All of these examples are related to national rituals: Israel had become like the other nations after God turned them over to worship the starry host.  Never called a "worship service", the synagogue began in the wilderness and for instruction in God's Word (only). The synagogue continued parallel to the national temple which was never a house of worship in any nation: it was a place to house their "gods" as David made clear. This was in fact always a way to control their gods who were more often destructive unless handled carefully by a select priesthood.  The Campbells understood the text and declared that:

Church is A School of Christ
Worship is reading and musing the Word.
That is what Christ commanded for the church in the wilderness
That was what was practiced to prepare people for Christ
That is what Jesus exampled, Paul commanded and practiced and what the historic Church of Christ practiced before Constantine.
Acts 15:21 For Moses of old time
        hath in every city
        them that preach him,
        being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
Discipleship and theology are not related says Jesus who blamed the doctors of the law for taking away the key to knowledge and called the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. In the Ezekiel 33 version Christ named preachers, singers and instrument players. In Revelation 18 John called them sorcerers who had deceived the whole world.

Only the Levi tribe was commanded to keep up the system: this was after the elders fired God and demanded a national kingdom. God knew that they wanted to worship like the nations but nor for long.

Reading First Samuel Eight leaves no doubt that what transpired after the granting of a monarchy was the result of their own religious practices.
And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 1 Samuel 8:7

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day,

wherewith they have forsaken me,
and served other gods,

so do they also unto thee.
1 Samuel 8:8
Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. 1 Samuel 8:9
It is just not rational to read Samuel as a Prophet recognized along with the Apostles as the only foundation upon which the church is built up.

CHRIST IN THE PROPHETS SAYS THAT GOD DID NOT COMMAND SACRIFICES OR BURNT OFFERINGS.

None of these examples have any connection to the Synagogue or Church of Christ in the wilderness or to the Ekklesia / Synagogue which was a School of the Word. Neither hand any superstitious rituals such as preaching, singing, playing, collecting money.

He certainly did not command the kings or anything which followed.
Genesis 49:5  Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.
Genesis 49:6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret;
        unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united:
        for in their anger they slew a man,
        and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.
Genesis 49:7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel:
        I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.
On the other hand Christ in the prophets show that Messiah will be our "patternism" for worship.

Predestination demanded that God preserve the seed (singular) of Abraham etal until Messiah would come and put down the entire NATIONAL worship of Israel and Judah which first appeared as musical worship at Mount Sinai.
Genesis 49:8 Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise:
        thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies;
        thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.
Genesis 49:9 Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up:
        he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?
Genesis 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
        until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
Genesis 49:11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine;
         he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:
Genesis 49:12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.
The only spiritual covenant was made with Abraham: In Galatians 3 Paul ignores the Law and defines baptism as the only way to become the sons of Abraham.
From the beginning, the godly people listened to the prophets who repudiated the goyim or Babylonish national system.
Matthew 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him,
        Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
Matthew 13:11 He answered and said unto them,
        Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven,
        but to them it is not given.
Matthew 13:12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance:
        but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
Matthew 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not;
        and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
Matthew 13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias,
        which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand;
         and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
Matthew 13:15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross,
        and their ears are dull of hearing,
        and their eyes they have closed;
        lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears,
        and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Matthew 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
Christ warns about the lying pen of the Scribes:
Luke 11:47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
Luke 11:48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers:
         for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.
Luke 11:49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God,
        I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
Luke 11:50 That the blood of all the prophets,
        which was shed from the foundation of the world,
        may be required of this generation;
Luke 11:51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias,
        which perished between the altar and the temple:
        verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
Luke 11:52
Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge:
        ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
Luke 11:53 And as he said these things unto them,
        the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently,
        and to provoke him to speak of many things:
Luke 11:54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth,
        that they might accuse him

First: "For He is Good...Worship in Ezra–Nehemiah," Leslie C. Allen

God neither commanded king, kingdom, temple, animal slaughter or the instrumental noise which was more exorcism than worship.  It was becaue of musical idolatry that God turned the national system over to worship the starry host: that is whom they worshipped AT the temple but never so vile as INSIDE of the Temple which would get any Levite executed.

Christ ordained the Qahal, synagogue or Church of Christ in the Wilderness:
It was INCLUSIVE of Rest, Reading and Rehearsing the Word of God (only): what disciples do.
It was EXCLUSIVE of vocal or instrumental rejoicing: what disciples never do.

The synagogue excluded the godly people from the sacrificial system. h4744.Miqra.gif

h4744.Miqra.gifTherefore, restoring the Law of Moses and the Synagogue there is no exorcising music.

Neh. 8:11 So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.
2013. haw-saw´; a primitive root; to hush:--hold peace (tongue), (keep) silence, be silent, still.
2814. khaw-shaw´; a primitive root; to hush or keep quiet:--hold peace, keep silence, be silent, (be) still.
6087 {atsab, aw-tsab´; a primitive root; properly, to carve, i.e. fabricate or fashion; hence (in a bad sense) to worry, pain or anger:--displease, grieve, hurt, make, be sorry, vex, worship, wrest.
When the SYNAGOGUE or school of the Bible was about to break up for food, the Levites took precautions to keep the wild speaking from breaking out. They were dismissed with a solemn warning to KEEP ORDER.

Neh. 8:12 And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions,
        and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.
8057. simchah, sim-khaw´; from 8056; blithesomeness or glee, (religious or festival):—x exceeding(-ly), gladness, joy(-fulness), mirth, pleasure, rejoice(-ing).

This is a state of joy in the spirit: it is not some person performing a Making Mirth Ritua.
Neh. 8:13 And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people,
        the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe,
        even to understand the words of the law.

The next verse proves that the people had not observed the Law of Moses even from the time they came out of Egypt.

Neh. 8:17 And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths,
        and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun
        unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.
This is the same Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness: the Holy Convocation included Rest, Reading and meditating on the Word.  It EXCLUDED both vocal and instrumental rejoicing. This was the Law of Moses ANTITITHICAL to the Sacrificial system: God never changed that.

6951. Qahal kaw-hawl´; from 6950; assemblage (usually concretely):—assembly, company, congregation, multitude.

This was the national assembly for everyone: people always assembled in their local synagogues where.

Acts 15:21 For Moses of old time hath in every city
        them that preach him,
        being read in the synagogues
        every sabbath day.

Noticed that the SOLEMN ASSEMBLIES or HOLY CONVOCATIONS were held on the FIRST and EIGHT days.

Neh. 8:18 Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God.
        And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly,
        according unto the manner.

        Solemn is h1902 is to indicate solemnity of movement, meditation, solemn sound. from 1897:
        ponder, imagine, meditate, study, talk, utter
                Assembly: Inclose, hold back, maintain, rule, keep self close, restrain.

NEHEMIAH DEFINED THE CURSE OF THE LAW SO THAT ALL OF THOSE NOT DOING SYNAGOGUE WERE PARASITES.

Behold, we are servants this day, [and so are you]
        and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof,
        behold, we are servants in it: Neh 9:36

And it yieldeth
        much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us
        because of our sins:

        also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle,
        at their pleasure
        and we are in great distress. Neh 9:37

        They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns
                they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit:
                and they shall be ashamed of your revenues
                because of the fierce anger of the Lord. Je.12:13

Neh 9:17 And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.

Neh 9:18 Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This is thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;

Moses was the first to give the Sabbath as "rest" as part of the Book of the Covenant to protect Israel from the pagan sabbaths.

And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant: Neh 9:14

However, the leaders of Israel made the Sabbath into a "worship" ritual just as they had worshiped in Egypt:

But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments, Neh 9:16

Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This is thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations; Neh 9:18

Profaning self broke the Sabbath at Mount Sinai. Here is the way it was usually done in paganism or most of Jewish rituals

Chalal (h2490) khaw-lal'; a prim. root [comp. 2470]; prop. to bore, i. e. (by impl.) to wound, to dissolve; fig. to profane (a person, place or thing),denom. (from 2485) to play (the flute): - begin (* men began), defile, * break, defile, * eat (as common things), * first, * gather the grape thereof, * take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute, (cast as) profane (self), prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound.

Profaning the Sabbath by doing their own things and "improvizing like David" was always with music which said to God: "We will not listen to your Word."

Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath. Nehemiah 13:18

Neh 9:19 Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.

Neh 9:20 Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.

So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would. Neh 9:24

And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness. Neh 9:25

Clark Verse 25 Became fat, and delighted themselves] They became effeminate, fell under the power of luxury, got totally corrupted in their manners, sinned against all the mercies of God, and then were destroyed by his judgments. We have an old nervous saying, "War begets poverty, poverty begets peace, peace begets affluence, affluence begets luxury and corruption of manners; and hence civil broils, foreign wars, and desolations." A sensible Roman historian has said the same: "Imperium facile iis artibus retinetur, quibus initio partum est: verum ubi pro labourE, DESIDIA; pro continentia et aequitate, LIBIDO atque SUPERBIA invasere: fortuna simul cum moribus IMMUTATUR."

Wesley Sermon 81: 2 Cor. 6:17, 18. 18. But as dangerous as it is to converse familiarly with men that know not God, it is more dangerous still for men to converse with women of that character; as they are generally more insinuating than men, and have far greater power of persuasion; particularly if they are agreeable in their persons, or pleasing in their conversation. You must be more than man, if you can converse with such and not suffer any loss. If you do not feel any foolish or unholy desire; (and who can promise that you shall not?) yet it is scarce possible that you should not feel more or less of an improper softness, which will make you less willing and less able to persist in that habit of denying yourself, and taking up your cross daily, which constitute the character of a good soldier of Jesus Christ. And we know that not only fornicators and adulterers, but even "the soft and effeminate," the delicate followers of a self-denying Master, "shall have no part in the kingdom of Christ and of God."

Psalms 15:1 LORD,
        who shall abide in thy tabernacle?
        who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

No one SANG Psalms in the synagogue which began as The Church of Christ in the Wilderness.

We should note that only the priests of Aaron could enter into the Holy Place as a type of the body of Christ: only the  High Priest could enter into the Most Holy place once a year to offer a sacrifice for God. The Nadab-Abihu is the story of them offering incense which meant that they went into the Holy Place which always carried a death penalty. God imposed the Day of Atonement and the Scape-Goat.  This was to appease the Devil: Azazel.  After all they had already been turned over to worship the starry host and sentenced to go beyond Babylon for captivity and death.

The Levites (singers, players) could not get CLOSE TO or ENTER into any holy place on the penalty of death. The Tabernacle God ordained was for a Witness and no Levite or commoner could enter into it. This is prophetic of the Church were we have to go OUTSIDE THE CITY or camp and suffer reproahces so we can learn of Jesus Christ.

Five: From Where Will My Help Come? Women and Prayer in the Apocrypha / Deuterocanonical Books," Toni Craven

No one "leads" prayer as a religious ritual. Neither do men: Paul commanded that the men lift holy PALMS and pray for peace and silence: this would prevent an outbreak of wrath or ORGY. The women were silenced from teaching OVER as a self-authored speaker and self-authority, authentia which was both erotic and murderous. The PURPOSE DRIVEN CHURCH can then all "everyone to be saved or safe and come to a knowledge of the Truth.  The only ACT from the wilderness onward was to Teach that which had been taught. Both male and female can pray IF their lives do not hinder it: neither are commanded to LEAD a ceremonial prayer.

Six: "Flirting with the Language of Prayer (Job 14:13-17)," James L. Crenshaw

Flirting with language of prayer? My goodness.  Maybe people don't read the thought pattern. Job has no doubt that when the heaven's and earth no longer exist THEN they will be resurrected.

Job 14:11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
Job 14:12 So man lieth down, and riseth not:
        till the heavens be no more
,
        they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

Job 14:13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret,
        until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

Job 14:14 If a man die, shall he live again?
        all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

This is a rhetorical question: Job has no doubt and does not flirt.

Job 14:15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
Job 14:16 For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?
Job 14:17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

Job 15 comes after Job 14 and repudiates all performance worship.

Job 15:17 I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
Job 15:18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:

Seven: "Setting the Heart to Seek God: Worship in 2 Chronicles 30:1-31:1," M. Patrick Graham

In 2 Chronicles 28 Ahaz took the sacrificial system out of Jerusalem to which it was quarantined and began to worship at the pagan high places. This brough on a plague.  Before this exorcism Jerusalem was the center of burnt offerings of children.

Coffman Notes: WICKED ISRAEL'S PREFERENCE FOR PAGAN SHRINES

"Despite the fact of God's having set up his holy altar at a specific location and having given the most solemn prohibitions against worshipping or sacrificing elsewhere, and in spite of God's having forbidden the Jews to honor or retain any of the pagan shrines and altars in Palestine, they nevertheless spared all the pagan shrines, and installed others.

In 2 Chronicles 29 Hezekiah proposed a "plague stopping" ceremony which was an exorcism. This is the PATTERNISM used by some to say that "God commanded instrumental praise and we must not be disobedient." In fact any careful reading of this chapter will prove that when the goats were sacrificed for Israel as an appeasement because Jerusalem wlas in danger, the Levites made instrumental noise (never music) during the burnt offering.  Christ in Isaiah 1; Jeremiah 7 etc say that God had not commanded sacrifices or burnt offering.  Only the Levites under the King and commanders of the army "prophesied" during this holocaust.

1 Chr 25:1  David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Here is the list of the men who performed this service:

Payne insists that the Hebrew of 1 Chronicles 25:1 unambiguously identifies these leaders as military commanders, an interpretation favoured by several Bible translations. (Payne, p 423-4; NASB, NIV, NKJV, NRSV, Jerusalem Bible) If military commanders had a particular interest in the appointment of musicians, it suggests a strong link between music and warfare.

Their "prophesying" with instruments is defined as soothsaying: that which God had abandoned them to at Mount Sinai:

The Hithpa'el of nb', in the ancient texts, refers to ecstasy and delirium rather than to the emission of a 'prophecy'." (de Vaux, Roland, The Bible and the Ancient Near East, p. 243 Doubleday

"
Maniac inspirations, the violent possession which threw sibyls and priestesses into contortions--the foaming lip and streaming hair and glazed or glaring eyes-- have no place in the self-controlling dignity of Christian inspiration. Even Jewish prophets, in the paroxysm of emotion, might lie naked on the ground and rave (1 Sam. xix. 24); but the genuine inspiration in Christian ages never obliterates the self-consciousness or overpowers the reason. It abhors the hysteria and stimulation and frenzy which have sometimes disgraced revivalism and filled lunatic asylums." (Pulpit Commentary, 1 Cor., p. 460).

The following festival was not a "worship assembly" in any sense of the Word.

As soon as Hezekiah died they returned to the burnt offering of children in 2 Chronicles 33.

Chrysostom notes that:

Hence these same "customs" date their origin, hence the sacrifices:
..........they were themselves the first that made sacrifices to their idols!
..........For that is why it is marked,

Editor's Note 7: dia gar touto epishmainetai. The meaning is: Stephen was accused of speaking against "the customs,"-sacrifices, temple, feasts, etc. Therefore he significantly points to that critical conjuncture. from which these "customs" date their introduction: namely, the Provocation at Horeb.
Prior to that, he tells of "living oracles," life-giving precepts:
after it
, and as its consequence, sacrifices, etc.,

those statutes which were not good, and ordinances by which a man shall not live, as God says by Ezekiel.

Not a word of sacrifice till then: and the first mention is, of the sacrifices offered to the calf. In like manner, "they rejoiced," "the people ate and drank, and rose up to play:" and in consequence of this, the feasts were prescribed: kai eufrainonto, fhsin: dia touto kai eortai.-'Epishmainetai might be rendered, "he marks," "puts a mark upon it" (so the innovator, who substitutes, touto kai Dauid epishmainomenoj legei): we take it passively, "there is a mark set over it-it is emphatically denoted." In the active, the verb taken intransitively means

"to betoken or announce itself," "make its first appearance."-

In the Treatise adv. Judaeos, iv. §6. tom. i. 624. C. St. Chrysostom gives this account of the legal sacrifices: "To what purpose unto Me is the multitude of your sacrifices? etc. (Isaiah i., 11, ff.)

Do ye hear how it is most plainly declared, that God did not from the first require these at your hands? Had He required them, He would have obliged those famous saints who were before the Law to observe this practice.
`Then wherefore has He permitted it now?
In condescension to your infirmity. As a physician in his treatment of a delirious patient, etc.:
thus did God likewise. For seeing them so frantic in their lust for sacrifices, that they were ready, unless they got them, to desert to idols: nay not only ready,  but that they had already deserted, thereupon He permitted sacrifices. And that this is the reason, is clear from the order of events.
After the feast which they made to the demons, then it was that He permitted sacrifices: all but saying: `Ye are mad, and will needs sacrifice: well then, at any rate sacrifice to Me. 0'"-(What follows may serve to illustrate the brief remark a little further on, Kai h aixmalwsia kathgoria thj kakiaj.)
"But even this, He did not permit to continue to the end, but by a most wise method, withdrew them from it ...
For He did not permit it to be done in any place of the whole world,
but in Jerusalem only. Anon, when for a short time
they had sacrificed, he destroyed the city.
Had He openly said, Desist, they, such was their insane passion for sacrificing, would not readily have complied. But now perforce, the place being taken away, He secretly withdrew them from their frenzy."
So here: "Even the captivity impeaches the wickedness (which was the cause of the permission of sacrifice.")

"The Hebrews became infected with Sabeanism, the oldest form of idolatry, the worship of the Saba or starry hosts, in their stay in the Arabian desert, where Job notices its prevalence (Job 31:26); in opposition, in Am 5:27, Jehovah declares Himself "the God of hosts."

Christ PREDesigned the REST DAY which Joshua could not give them.

Sabbath means REST: it never meant a day of worship.

Ho, every one that thirsteth,
        come ye to the waters,
        and he that hath no money;
        come ye, buy, and eat; yea,
        come, buy wine and milk WITHOUT MONEY
        and WITHOUT PRICE. Isa 55:1

Wherefore DO YOU SPEND MONEY for that which is not bread?
        and your labour for that which satisfieth not?
        hearken diligently unto me,
        and eat ye that which is good,
        and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Isa 55:2

There is nothing you can do to worship God but FEED the souls of starving people with the Water of the Word: free of charge.

      John 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said,
                This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
        John 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it,
                he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
        John 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
        John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth;
                the flesh profiteth nothing:
                the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

        John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the GIFT OF GOD
                and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him,
                and he would have given thee living water.

        God is SPIRIT: the Gift OF God is therefore SPIRIT or the WORD.

        John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
        John 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ:

Is. 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
        neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Is. 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
        so are my ways higher than your ways,
        and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Is. 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven,
        and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud,

Is. 55:11 So shall MY word be that goeth forth out of my mouth:
        it shall not return unto me void,
        but it shall accomplish that which I please,
        and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Isaish 58 prescribes the REST day and outlaws seeking our own pleasure or speaking our own words.

Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward (what you gather). Isaiah 58: 8

Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer;
        thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.
        If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke,
        the putting forth of the finger,
        and speaking vanity; Isaiah 58: 9

And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry,
        and satisfy the afflicted soul;
        then shall thy light rise in obscurity,
        and thy darkness be as the noonday: Isa 58:10

And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places:
        thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations;
        and thou shalt be called,
                The repairer
of the breach,
                The restorer of paths to dwell in. Isa 58:12

Sabbath does not mean Saturday but: intermission

A primitive root; to repose, that is, desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causatively, figuratively or specifically): (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep (sabbath), suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him,

not doing thine own ways,
        nor finding thine own pleasure,
        nor speaking thine own words

Jer 23:19 Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury,
        even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
Jer 23:20 The anger of the Lord shall not return,
        until he have executed,
        and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart:
        in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
Jer 23:21 I have not sent these prophets,
        yet they ran:
        I have not spoken to them,
        yet they prophesied.
Jer 23:22 But if they had stood in my counsel,

        and from the evil of their doings.

--Ov. Am. 3.12 Elegy XII: He complains that the praises he has bestowed on his mistress in his verses, have occasioned him many rivals.

Ill-omen'd birds, how luckless was the day,
When o'er my love you did your wings display!
What wayward orb, what inauspicious star
Did then rule heav'n ? what gods against me war?
She who so much my fatal passion wrongs,
       Was known and first made famous by my songs.

I lov'd her first, and lov'd her then alone,
But now, I fear, I share her with the town.
Am I deceiv'd or can she be the same,
Who only to my verses owes her fame
My verse a price upon her beauty laid,
      And by my praises she her market made;

Whom but myself can I with reason blame?
Without me she had never had a name.
Did I do this, who knew her soul so well?
Dearly to me she did her favours sell;
And when the wares were to the public known,
       Why should I think she'd sell to me alone ?

'Twas I proclaim'd to all the town her charms,
And tempted cullies to her venal arms;
I made their way, I show'd them where to come,
And there is hardly now a rake in Rome

But knows her rates, and thanks my babbling muse:
Her house is now as common as the stews;
For this I'm to the muse oblig'd, and more
For all the mischiefs envy has in store.
This comes of gallantry, while some employ
Their talents on the fate of Thebes and Troy,
While others Caesar's godlike acts rehearse,
Corinna is the subject of my verse.

Oh, that I ne'er had known the art to please,
But written without genius and success.
Why did the town so readily believe
My verse, and why to songs such credit give ?

Sure poetry s the same it ever was,
And poets ne'er for oracles did pass.
Why is such stress upon my writings laid?
Why such regard to what by me is said ?

I wish the tales I've of Corinna told,
Had been receiv'd as fables were of old;
Of furious Scylla's horrid shape we read,
And how she scalp'd her hoary father's lead:

Of her fair face, and downward how she takes
The wolf's fierce form, the dog's, or curling snake's;
Serpents for hair, in ancient song we meet,
And man and horse with wings instead of feet.

Huge Tityon from the skies the poets flung,
Encelladus's wars with Jove they sung;
How by her spells, and by her voice, to beasts,
The doubtful virgin chang'd her wretched guests;

How Eolus did for Ulysses keep
The winds in bottles while he plough'd the deep:
How Cerberus, three headed, guarded hell;
And from his car the son of Phoebus fell:

How thirsty Tantalus attempts to sip
The stream in vain, that flies his greedy lip:
How Niobe in marble drops a tear,
And a bright nymph was turn'd into a bear:

How Progne, now a swallow, does bemoan
Her sister nightingale, and pheasant son.
In Leda, Danae, and Europa's rapes,
They sing the king of gods in various shapes;

A swan he lies on ravish'd Leda's breast,
And Danae by a golden show'r compress'd;
A bull does o'er the waves Europa bear,
And Proteus any form he pleases wear.
How oft do we the Theban wonders read,
Of serpent's teeth transform'd to human seed!

Of dancing woods, and moving rocks, that throng
To hear sweet Orpheus, and Amphion's song ?
How oft do the Heliades bemoan,
In tears of gum, the fall of Phaeton!

The sun from Atreus' table frightened flies,
And backward drives his chariot in the skies.
Those now are nymphs that lately were a fleet;
Poetic license ever was so great.

But none did credit to these fictions give,
Or for true history such tales receive,
And though Corinna in my songs is fair,
Let none conclude she's like her picture there.

The fable she with hasty faith receiv'd,
And what, so very well she lik'd, believ'd.
But since so ill she does the poet use,
'Tis time her vanity to disabuse.

Play-actors: The Lydians, or rather their descendants, the Etrurians, were the earliest actors at Rome; hence the term used here, "barbari," "foreigners." The metaphor is borrowed from the fact that dancing, leaping, and gestures, were the especial features of their performances.

The Jews engaged in a form of musical idolatry which seens common in that world: even the Greek singing and playing came out of Egypt.  The Egyptian trinity was Osiris, Isis and Horus: father, mother infant child of many pagan triads.

But now the brazen trumpet's fearsome song
blares loud, and startled shouts of soldiery
spread through the roaring sky. The Volscian band
press to the siege, and, locking shield with shield,
fill the great trenches, tear the palisades,
or seek approach by ladders up the walls,
where'er the line of the defenders thins, and light
through their black circle shines.

Fifteen: "Eat and Rejoice Before the Lord: The Optimism of Worship in the Deuteronomic Code," Timothy M. Willis

After the musical idolatry at Mount Sinai Christ the Rock defined the Qahal, synagogue, ekklesia or Church: the godly people RESTED from the sacrificial system to which God abandoned the tribe of Levi to worship the starry hosts.  The synagogue was the School of the Word and slaughtering  innocent fleeced animals was not an act of "worship."

The festivals were more musters of military-aged males than a worship service. It comes as no surprise that what goes on in "summer camps" has nothing to do with congregational singing with instrumental accompaniment.
Deuteronomy 14:26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

Ps 50:7  Hear, O my people, and I will speak;
        O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
Ps 50:8  I will not reprove [justify] thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings,
         to have been continually before me.
Ps 50:9  I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
Ps 50:10  For every beast of the forest is mine,
        and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
Ps 50:11  I know all the fowls of the mountains:
        and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
Ps 50:12  If I were hungry, I would not tell thee:
        for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
Ps 50:13  Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Ps 50:14  Offer unto God thanksgiving;
        and pay thy vows unto the most High:
Ps 50:15  And call upon me in the day of trouble:
        I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
Ps 50:16  But unto the wicked God saith,
        What hast thou to do to declare my statutes,
        or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
Ps 50:17  Seeing thou hatest instruction,
        and castest my words behind thee.

Jer. 7:21 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel;
        Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.
Jer. 7:22 For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them
        in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt,
        concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

But this thing commanded I them, saying,

> Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people:
> and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. Jer 7:23

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. Jer 7:24

Aphrahat 4th century

19. Now thus is faith; when a man believes in God the Lord of all, Who made the heavens and the earth and the seas and all that is in them; and He made Adam in His image;
        and He gave the Law to Moses;
        He sent of His Spirit upon the prophets;
        He sent moreover His Christ into the world.

Furthermore that a man should believe in the resurrection of the dead; and should furthermore also believe in the sacrament of baptism.

This is the faith of the Church of God. And (it is necessary) that a man should separate himself from the observance         of hours and Sabbaths and moons and seasons,
        and divinations and sorceries and Chaldaean arts and magic,
        from fornication and from festive music, from vain doctrines,
        which are instruments of the Evil One,
        from the blandishment of honeyed words, from blasphemy and from adultery.

And that a man should not bear false witness, and that a man should not speak with double tongue. These then are the works of the faith which is based on the true Stone which is Christ, on Whom the whole building is reared up.

Christ in the prophets says that Israel had a covenant with death: there is nothing in the monarchy period which had or has anything to do with the ekklesia or synagogue of Christ.
