Jeff Childers of ACU or Abilene Christian University. Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino At the river's Edge: Abilene Christian University, ACU. Baptism changed. For the doctors of the law who took away the keys to knowledge, Jesus said that the truth had been hidden in parables from the foundation of the world. Isaiah 48 shows that this is to keep the mysteries out of the hands of those who--then and now--claim a direct revelation from God.

Oikoumene is ECUMENICAL OF the World for which Jesus does not pray. Christianity is the SECT called the WAY: narrow, strait, strict, exclusive: a Little Flock.

Even single words or concepts are often parables hiding a deepter meaning. They are POINTERS to the deep wells of earth-based concepts. If we, as Rubel Shelly interpret the first century documents by pointing to our changed culture we can never understand the original inspired reporters.
Baptism is one of those demands which are interpreted in terms of modern--and ancient--theology revealed in modern demands to "publish or perish." For instance:
"AT THE RIVER'S EDGE (A Review) By John Waddey. Annotated by Kenneth Sublett: an unchecked review.
"This small book is authored by Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino of Abilene Christian University. It is sub-headed, "Meeting Jesus in Baptism." It might be better headed, "Theological speculations about baptism." The university mailed copies of this book to churches throughout the nation after the parade of liberal change agents, speaking on their 2004 lectureship, caused a fire storm of controversy with their extreme statements about salvation and baptism. One knowledgeable brother aptly described the mailing it as ACU's damage control project.
I have noticed that every heresy contains the SEED of its own destruction. Too bad, too sad, ACU has a problem: first they simply do not know the meaning of things like Church (Royce Money). Or this very well may be a case of "God made me mail the heretical book." I surely believe that Carroll D. Osburn getting by with claiming to train Prophets, Chanellers and Facilitators to go change the old conservatives. However, conservative means refusing to be uprooted and moved to a house which God in Christ did not build
Our experience has been that when someone claims that a church teaches faith only they are publicly branded a liar and sower of discord. After the ACU lectureship of 2004 faithful brethren claimed that the "scholars" were teaching faith- only. As an attempt to say "you are a liar" this book says exactly what the end time agents are charged with saying. So, this may be a cunning way of saying: "We have stolen the university fair and square and we ain't gonna give it up."
The goal of the planned sowing of discord involved a set of code words which the ignorant "audience" was not capable of comprehending. Of course, that is the LUCIFER PRINCIPLE when he/she ask/claimed "did God REALLY say that."
"A major tenet of the change agenda is that salvation is by grace through faith and that baptism is only a declaration of one's salvation. This of course is not new, it is Baptist doctrine. This booklet attempts to restate their position, masking it and making it more palatable to members of the church who are not yet indoctrinated with the more extreme version of the change doctrine. Like George Orwell's imaginary world of the future, this book is filled with newspeak, i.e., language meaning one thing to those on the inside of the change movement and something quite different to those on the outside.
Max Lucado cuts bitterly into Bible believers by making the thief on the cross the exception which proves that there are NO RULES which should be taught and drives the legalists crazy! Of course, God might save Lucifer, dreams Max, but then that would make God a liar wouldn't it.
A proof that God has sent strong delusions is that "scholars" can read the faith only passage in Ephesians chapter two from Baptist textbooks and never read the Biblical Ephesians beginning with verse one or even Ephesians One.. At the worst it means that they can read "Grace through faith" or as in the Lipscomb professor's version, "Faith in Grace" and miss the perpetual showing act in the first part of the chapter. See all of Ephesians 2 which insists on baptism as God's plan to bestow his favor by faith.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Eph 2: 4
Even when we were dead in sins, hath "QUICKENED" (regenerated) us together WITH Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Ephesians 2:5
And hath RAISED us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places IN Christ Jesus: Ephesians 2:6
Another version after Acts 2:38 is Acts 2:47:
Jesus said: those who believe AND are baptized shall be saved.
Peter said: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38 [or A holy spirit or A good conscience]
Luke wrote: praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:47
John MacAuthor wrote: It MIGHT be that Acts 2:38 means what it says.
Paul defines water baptism in different forms throughout his epistles. But, it is a fact that the latest fad is to ignore the letters--which Jeff Childers--writes of with the usual "warring" or "divisive" views of divisive writers. Of course, that denies the claim to inspiration. This shifts the "scholars" to the core gospel of seven facts ABOUT Jesus and ultimately to Just Jesus.
Being raised to sit in heavenly places is to have our spirits translated into the heavenly or spiritual realm. For instance the word raised is:
Sunegeiro (g4891) soon-eg-i'-ro; from 4862 and 1453; to rouse (from death) in company with, i.e. (fig.) to revivify (spiritually) in resemblance to: - raise up together, rise with.
Now, that does not mean that we become a SECOND INCARNATION by having the Spirit Being dwell as a "person" within out "person." That means that our baptism does not connect to the incarnation and birth of God being clothed with human flesh.
History agrees that the SPIRIT is the Word or Mind of Christ as Paul clearly says in 1 Cor. 2. All of the evidence proves that God takes our HUMAN spirit and purges it of its sin and sinfulness. The Spirit is ministered by preaching and the Spirit dwells in the heart of mind by or because of faith in that teaching.
In Colossians Paul defines this as a result of baptism where Christ cuts off sin, gives us A holy spirit or A good conscience or consciousness:
WHAT? In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Col 2:11
HOW? Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. Col.2:12
IF ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above,
where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Col.3:1
This is the promise made by Christ the Spirit to Abraham:
But after that faith (system of ) is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster (system of law). Gal 3:25
WHAT? For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:26
HOW? For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal 3:27
Are you saved before you PUT ON or are clothed with Christ? Do you have FAITH which does not include obedience? No. Simple belief does not save your nor does it cause you to be lost: you are lost already. Believeth not is apistis which means you are treacherous.
If you DON'T know the code words you will hear them say they believe in baptism, but the "initiates" will giggle and know that the false teacher has not fallen from faithlessness:
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Yes! We are saved by grace through faith
and baptism is a picture of our salvation."
The PICTURES can come only from the Living Bible which reads. It is a fact that the once for all sacrifice for sins saves the entire world. However, that is potential just as the sin of Adam brought potential sin. The Living Bible makes this clear.
(That, by the way, is what baptism pictures for us: In baptism we show that we have been saved from death and doom by the resurrection of Christ;[c] not because our bodies are washed clean by the water but because in being baptized we are turning to God and asking him to cleanse our hearts from sin.) 1 Peter 3:21
The NIV reads:
and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge [f] of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 3:21
But you have to be trying real hard to so mistranslate because Peter had just said:
Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3:20

EPHESIANS TWO: the Grace through faith or "faith in grace" favorite passage.
First, Paul defined baptism in the first part of the chapter.
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace, in his kindness toward us, through Christ Jesus. Eph 2:7
Using the word for show or the Greek:
Endeiknumi (g1731) en-dike'-noo-mee; from 1722 and 1166; to indicate (by word or act): - do, show (forth).
Baptism is a personal activity: therefore, in ages to come our baptism is the ongoing showing ACT or showing forth of how God's favor is accepted by faith: He that believeth AND is baptized shall be saved. Paul cearly says that BAPTISM is the way to show forth salvation by grace through faith.
No one doubts that the Lord's Supper is an individual act: WE eat the supper and WE show or preach the DEATH of Christ-past tens.
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lords death till he come. 1 Cor 11:26
We do not PREACH the death of Jesus BEFORE we expose our faith to the hostile forces which, we are told are like adders who hate the water. Isn't that easy?
Jesus says that for those with faith baptism is the MEANS of asking or requesting A holy spirit or to save us to make us into students of the Word mediated by Him. Those who obeyed and entered the Ark were requesting God to save them from death or the waters of chaos. Look again at:
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Yes! We are saved by grace through faith
and baptism is a picture of our salvation."
No! No Greek student can believe that baptism is our PLEDGE, in the words of Max Lucado, to be good people. A pledge means that we have something of value to guarantee our obedience. We PLEDGE a hundred dollars until we can PRODUCE ten thousand dollars. WE do not have the power to pledge or guarantee our good conduct.
The NIV trips up the scholars but the NIV does not use the word as pledge anywhere else: it otherwise translates the word as to ASK or REQUEST. Therefore, 1 Peter 3:21 says that baptism is where we REQUEST A goo conscience or consiousness or A holy spirit. Throughout the many Greek text we have searched, this word always means to ASK.
John Waddey notes that when you push the power point button they squish out of the line of fire and concede the God has the right to save anyone without baptism. But that is spiritual deception in high places: the question is what does Lord Jesus Christ say. The right to make exceptions belongs to the Lord and by grasping that right in order to NOT teach baptism means that they are "standing in the holy place claiming to BE the Lord." Max Lucado hack away quite brutally by using the thief on the cross. However, no Bible student can miss the point that the thief did not ask to be saved in a spiritual kingdom and Jesus didn't promise him salvation. Remember, Bible 101aaa: the thief died on the cross for his own sins! Therefore, John notes that:
"One need only ask them, "If a man truly believes in Jesus but is not baptized, will he be lost?" Be prepared for a large dose of newspeak.
"Some Amazing Assertions:
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino "those who stress baptism's importance...are so tied to modern agendas that they never seem to talk about baptism the way the apostles do, or to delve into the full richness we find in Scripture" (p. 1).
"This is us (members of traditional churches of Christ) of whom they speak. Change agents imagine the rest of us have never understood Christ's teaching on baptism. Only they have discovered these mysteries.
The church named Church of Christ has existed in every period of time often in an apostate state. Faithful members held ENTO that baptism was in order that Christ would give us A new spirit. Those who began to altar this after Zwingli in 1525 changed that view. Therefore, those who make the CHANGE are always identified as the heretics or sectarians.
The church of Christ which grew apostate when it wanted to be all things to all people (re: Rubel Shelly, Jubilee, ACU) never doubted the meaning of baptism. It's agenda was to GO and preach the gospel and baptize converts. Men like Alexander and Thomas Campbell (assuredly not Barton W. Stone) went looking for others who had the biblical agenda. When, in the words of the Campbells, they came out of Babylon, their agenda was the Biblical agenda.
These same people shout the mantra that the Campbell's approved of fellowship with the unbaptized by quoting a partial quote from the lunenberg letters. But, a half truth is a whole lie. If there are Christians among the sects then they demand that they COME OUT OF BABYLON.
Those pledged to train Prophets, Channellers and Facilitators OUTED their agenda --which was well known--at Jubilee 97 where Max Lucado was called in to wash away baptism. They confess to using the FEMINIST THEOLOGY which intends to change "by little steps of treason."
This is the calling black white: those whose agenda is to infiltrate and divert churches of Christ to make them into "theaters for holy entertainment" use deception and psychological violence to slither in false teachings.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino "In our churches, debates about the essentiality of baptism have been common yet serious discussions of baptism's essence have been rare" (p. 5).
If it ISN'T essential why debate it? The Baptists also debate it. One web page laments that over 50% of Baptists believed that they were baptized FOR the remission of sins and demanded to be baptized "that same hour." Sure, they can read the Bible and repudiate a massive INDUSTRY built to call Lord Jesus Christ and all pre-Zwingli scholars liars.
Another of the patternism of paradigms is to lie about every aspect of the American Restoration Movement. Because they are rhetoricians or sOPHISts (serpents) which are defined as sorcerers in the Greek resources, they have the power to speak lying wonders and be believed. The weapon of their warfare, hoplon, includes lifeless instruments condemned by Paul. Paul said that OUR weapons are spiritual or mental or truth focused. It is a fact that the ACU "scholars" quote scholars who misquote all of the historical resources. Therefore, John Waddey calls attention to the device of dissociation intended to create post modern schizophrenia by OUTING the truth:
"In the 200 years of our existence here in America, our brethren have had only a few thousand debates. Only part of them on baptism. In the last 50 years there have been only a handful of such discussions.
"Yet every preacher among us and thousands of other soul-winners have studied and discussed baptism in hundreds of thousands of situations that led multitudes to the Savior. In those congregations pursuing change it may have been rare, but such is not the case with most of our churches.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Baptism is important because, in its essence, it connects the disciple to Jesus Christ" (p. 5).
But, Jesus said that one MAKES disciples by BAPTIZING the believers and then teaching them what Christ taught. Baptism is not just important but indispensible to become a disciple or Christian. Those who want to make exceptions take on the judgmental task belonging only to God. Whatever God decides to do our task is to "preach the gospel" and leave the driving up to an infinite God Who is impossible to partner with.
A Christian is defined as a follower of Christ and Christ taught that you baptize those who believe and those who reject baptism, in the words of John, reject the counsel of God for their lives.
Therefore, there are no DISCIPLES of Christ who have not been baptized believing the statement that "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved."
Did you notice:
Jeff Childers: Baptism connects the DISCIPLE to Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ said: Baptism MAKES you a DISCIPLE!
Anyone familiar with proselyte baptism, commercial adoption for training under Paul the Tentmaker or the Greek world would grasp that one is not ADOPTED until they are washed. You do not get the secrets of the Tentmaker until you are washed. One is NEVER anointed with the oil or perfume until AFTER you are washed. Just common sense.
Sure, Paul said that this is our spiritual circumcision (cutting off of sin) by "faith in the operation of God." Baptism is our leapfrogging over the Law and back to the faith of Abraham:
WHAT? And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Gen 26:4
HOW? Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Gen 26:5
The purpose of the connection is to invite God to be our Teacher as we become His disciples. WE are not the teachers unless we "teach that which has been taught." Otherwise, Jesus brands us "doctors of the law" who are trained in taking away the key to knowledge. We noted above in Galatians that baptism is the time and place where we are baptized INTO or in connection with Christ's prototype gospel. At baptism God as Father raises us along with God as Son or Word:
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "More than any historical evidences or logical argumentation, the transformation of Jesus' misguided and bickering early disciples into a potent and unified force for carrying out God's ministry of reconciliation in the world was the most striking evidence for the truth of the resurrection" (p. 23).
There is no debate about baptism in the Bible or early church history. The debate began with the misunderstanding that "Father, Son and Spirit" are three names. The result was triune baptism. Then sprinkling was added where immersion was impossible and the EXCEPTIION became the rule. NO ONE debated the indispensibility of baptism--especiall Martin Luther used as the father of Sola Fide or faith only. But they make Luther a liar.
While the trinity demanded a triune baptism and sprinkling was allowed, the purpose of baptism for or in order to the remission of sins did not change until the year 1525 when Zwingli invented "faith only." John Waddey corrects the deliberate untruth which is part of the CORE GOSPEL in which the apostles failed to agree on about anything. However, the Baptist gospel at ACU repudiates the epistles as the latest fad: they are not gospel but the wrangling of wrangling apostles. However, this utterly denies the fact that the apostles claimed to be eyewitnesses to Spirit validated truth and the ongoing indwelling of the Spirit of Truth. This falsehood gleaned from bundling buddies as self-validated "doctors of the law" calls the apostles liars. Spiritual blindness is proven as John Waddey proves:
"Strangely, the sacred writers did not grasp this profound truth. They wrote of an empty tomb, the stone rolled back, of grave cloths lying undisturbed, of seeing, hearing and touching the resurrected Lord, of eating with him and then seeing him ascend into heaven. They missed all the good stuff that modern theology teaches about Christian evidences.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Yet it is by the dynamic evidence of resurrection power at work in its midst that the church engenders faith in others" (p. 24).
Poor Paul thought that "faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17)."
Unless we reject the power of the "father" in the spoke Word of the "son" which within itself carries "spirit" we just have to believe that the WORD engenders faith in others even if the person speaking is an atheist! Jeff and the team put the power in the COMMUNITY or COMMUNE. However, Jesus died to remove the laded burden which is "spiritual anxiety created by religious rituals." He said of the twos or threes "come learn of Me." An faith produced in CIRCE named after Kirke or the holy whore as a result of LIFTING UP people with excitement.
I believe that most of this group believes that seeing the Christian COMMUNITY doing its thing is what produces faith! The "worship teams" believe that "We perform worship and YOU watch us and do what WE do." But, Jesus and Paul said that worship is in the SPIRIT or MIND.
We proved above that the GRACE THROUGH FAITH is evidenced down through history by water baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Paul also understood that calling on the name of the Lord speaks of Matthew 28 where the "name singular" of the Lord is Jesus or Joshua or Jehovah- Saves. He understood that he had been instructed by Christ the Spirit to "be baptized, calling on the name of the Lord."
"Theobabble: The authors take a plainly stated and easily understood doctrine of Christ, mix it with their liberal theological insights, and bring forth ideas the average reader would never discover without their help. Even the inspired writers failed to grasp such meanings.
Rubel Shelly says that the individual has no right to read, interpret and speak the Word on his own. That is, he must be a member of the community or commune. The truth is discovered by a direct operation of the "spirit person" who speaks even in "audible voices" according to pneumaikos or distended with air or flatulence from new oinos
Note the following:
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Jesus' baptism...shows us what he is calling us to. He's inviting us to share with him in the whole life of God as Father, Son and Spirit" (p. 7).
Jesus baptism was to fulfill all righteousness. This means to "fully preach baptism." The dove also proved that God is a Father and not a mother: He is a Son and not a daughter.
Jesus was not LOST but He was still baptized. Therefore, the teaching seems to be that neither are we LOST but we are baptized to share with Him. The prophecy was that Christ as Word or Arm or Image of God would take on the filthy rags of all sins: past , present and future.
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Heb 5:7
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; Heb 5:8
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Heb 5:9
God the Son said: "He that believes AND is baptized SHALL BE saved."
The Author said that BELIEVETH means OBEDIENCE.
Peter said that Baptism brings remission of sins.
Paul said that He is the Author but only to those who OBEY him
Isaiah said in chapter 53 what we have said. He "sprinkles" all NATIONS but Paul said that He does that individually to our HEARTS when our bodies are washed.
John in chapter 12 qotes Isaiah 53 and concludes:
Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: John 12:42
And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. Lu 7:29
They confessed that God was righteous in His demands: they did not call God a liar:
But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. Lu.7:30
Baptism is the only overt confession which could get a believing Pharisee killed. Therefore, baptism is the confession of our faith: "He that believes AND is baptized shall BE savedd."
Paul also said:
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? Ro.10:16
The Baptist Blackeby and King are absorbed in the change agents: Watch God and whatever HE is doing YOU can do!
In Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God by Henry T. Balckaby and Claude V. King, a multi-step program is outlined.
In Unit 1, you should look to Scripture to learn how to identify God working in the same way to you.
"With God working through me, I can do anything God can do."
In Unit 3 "I do not choose Him, He chooses me, loves me, and reveals His eternal purposes for my life." "I cannot know the activity of God unless He takes the initiative to let me know." God's whole plan for the kingdom depends on His direct work through the people.
Jesus said that ALL authority of "Father, Son and Spirit" were vested in Himself as God's image, right hand, Messiah, Intercessor and Emmanuel with us. The "name" means authority but also the name is SINGULAR.
But, God is still God and the 'scholars are not.' You cannot, according to Rubel Shelly spouting the same cultic stuff "partner with God to get a new set of Scriptures." He says that this is the meaning of "work out your salvation with fear and trembling." I'll bet that a finite Shelly and Shellyites trying to yoke themselves to full Deity would not be visible much less able to rewrite Scripture with the HELP of God.
The commission was to preach the gospel. When people became believers which mean obedient to what they believed they were to be DISCIPLED by two things:
First, they were to be baptized. In the well known image of secular baptism everyone knew that submitting to baptism requested God to purge or wash away the sins or "demons" of the human spirit or mind. This invited God to dwell within our spirits by faith.
In all of the Old Testament and the Classics, a priest is first washed to remove all filth or vile excrement accumulated by animal sacrifices. Then, he was anointed with oil. This pictures the fact that before we can enter into the type of the church of Christ in the Holy Place we must accept the Sacrifice of Christ, be Washed as a request that God give us A clear conscience or A holy spirit.
In the Bible and historical documents and common sanity no one is WASHED because they are already clean. The bride is never anointed with oil and perfume BEFORE she is bathed!
God does not invite us to receive A SECOND INCARNATION: Jesus is the Master Teacher and we are the little, dirty student asking to be taught by the God of the universe. The student is not above or equal with his Master Teacher.
This statement is raw, filthy legalism and a claim to STAND IN THE HOLY PLACE as God. Just how is it that we PARTICIPATE with infinite beings Who are unknowable unless God takes the initiative to send Himself as the Living Word to deliver the Written Word>
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Like the incarnation itself, baptism presents a full picture, holding together many diverse pieces that seem nearly incompatible yet are reconciled in Christ. The call to a holiness that makes us distinct from the world is here joined to a call to ministry that irrevocably connects us to it, all under the auspices of Christ's invitation to wade with him into the waters" (p. 8).
God was IN Christ reconciling the world. In Him dwell full Deity. Jesus was singularly unique. No one else was GOD INCARNATED. Jesus said that the "father" and "spirit" was with Him. He WAS God in the flesh. He was God's Arm or Hand: He was God with us.
We are NOT a second incarnation. Jesus Christ the SPIRIT does not live inside a carnal body.
God makes our heart of STONE into a heart of FLESH but sanctified by Him so that we as the PRIEST can come boldly before the throne to worship in the PLACE of the human spirit. The WORD or Spirit of Truth is under the Mercy Seat in heaven itself.
The eunuch was taught the gospel prophesied by Isaiah because without the fulfillment he could not grasp the meaning. As soon as he understood he WANTED TO BE BAPTIZED. Philip presented the CORE BELIEF: you are HINDERED only if you do not believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God. When he confessed Philip and the eunuch STEPPED down into the water
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "the person stepping down into the water for baptism was joining Jesus there. He or she was stepping into the gospel story, merging into the picture of the gospel that is unveiled in Christ" (p. 8).
You thought that the PROTOS gospel was unveiled by Jesus Christ and that the preached gospel with baptism as the ARCHE or most important point.
This is the Baptist or Pagan meaning of baptism. It is much like the Catholic Eucharist where Jesus must DIE all over again in the bloodless sacrifice.
"Believer's baptism" does not mean what churches of Christ understand. The Baptist or pagan view is that one is SAVED by some mystical, spiritual operation done without one's permission. Then, one is indoctrinated in Baptist or pagan dogmas. Only after the "church" is more or less subtle ways VOTES you in you are permitted to be baptized by THEM. In believer's baptism, Christ must MEET you personally and die for you. Others believe that you BECOME Christ and die for your own sins. See the meaning of Pagan or Baptist Baptist which has no connection with the Bible or historical church.
Remember, God in Christ Jesus returned to sit as both king and priest on the ONE throne. He returned as the Spirit of Christ and teaches through His Word. Being a spiritual person does not give one the power to invent new Scripture "partnering with God." A holy spirit or A good conscience does not add supernatural power: it removes the blinders so that we can clearly discern the clear, unambiguous teachings of the written Word.
Paul said that the PROTOS gospel of Rubel Shelly's "core facts" is something only God in Jesus Christ could perform "all by HIMself, if you please."
However, Paul in Romans 6 says that our baptism is a TUPO or type of what only God could perform. Mark 1 speaks of the ARCHE gospel or MOST IMPORTANT point and begins to speak of the baptism of John and Jesus through His disciples.
Our baptism is a FORM of the actual event and we do not need Jesus to participate with all over again. Believer's Baptism declares that there was one Christ and one gospel for the Jews and a totally "spirit baptism" for the Gentiles.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Our baptism connects us to the birth of Jesus" (p. 9).
No, this is part of Babylonianism: Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus but both baptism and the Lord's Supper shows forth or preaches the DEATH of Jesus Christ. Paul in Romans 6 says that it connects us to the DEATH of Jesus!
Jeff Childers says: Our baptism connects us to the birth of Jesus
Paul said: Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Ro.6:3
Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? 1Co.15:29
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "in the water, we're also joining Jesus in the Jordan river. His presence in the water purified it, transforming it from a muddy stream into the cleansing waters that sanctify us..." (p. 9).
No! Remember Naaman was very angry at having to dip in the Jordan river:
Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. 2 Kings 5:12
Peter said that baptism does not wash off the body. This is where we REQUEST sanctification of A holy spirit. The water does not do that: John and Peter as a human could baptize with water but only God in Christ could wash of the human spirit.
Jeff and Fred have fallen into BAPTISMAL REGENERATION. Paul said that the waters do now WASH us: the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses our SPIRITS to make it into A holy spirit, or A good consiousness. Only Christ the Spirit can "baptize" our hearts or spirits to sanctify or make them holy.
If the waters are PURIFIED and we dip in the Jordan isn't this WATER REGENERATION? Peter said (but we missed Peter when I went through ACU) that it is NOT the waters but the waters are the REQUEST that God do the internal work on the human spirit. We are sanctified by A spirit of truth in the Word. We are sanctified in a spiritual, invisible way only by God. The water is not the AGENT of purification but the REQUEST which no member of the church of Christ has failed to understand.
Rubel Shelly says that we can PAINT anything and make it a tool of what they call "saving souls" in a legalistic sense. He says that we can PAINT Santa Clause by "baptizing" Christmas. We can PAINT the S.O.N. God as the S.U.N. god. Childers gives the ditto nod:
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "our baptism paints us into the central portrait of God's salvation" (p. 10).
Baptism...should not be commandeered by agendas that reduce it to a simple rule or that focus solely on debates about its essentiality. Such agendas distract us from the essence of baptism..." (p. 10).
Churches of Christ have not debated the issue: they have just "taught the word as it has been taught." It was Zwinglism or the Baptist Gnostic system which began the debate because "all of the doctors before me (Zwingli) were ignorant." The locals say that baptism is ESSENTIAL but not necessary. There will be no more debates if those who make hostile takeovers of churches and universities quit being traitors to their employers. Charles Spurgeon, on this very issue, wrote that there probably is no way to describe the low ethics and morality of anyone who would be hired to teach against those who hired him.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "it's unlikely that total agreement on every baptismal issue can ever be achieved..." (p. 10).
The Greek world and the Bible connects heresy, lifting up to carry away using singing or music, musica, cantus, magica, exegetice and hermenuo. That is why Peter outlawed private interpretation which means FURTHER EXPOUNDING. This is where the disagreement comes. If you set a thousand people down to read the text about baptism they would all agree on its meaning.
While falling into original sin and baby sprinkling, all of the church scholars grasped that the purpose of baptism was in order that God save us (according to Jesus) or remit our sins (Peter). While the scholars lie about Calvin and Luther, Calvin called the notion of faith only a form of insanity. Luther wrote a perfect understanding of baptism for adults able to believe and repent. His addendum defined infant baptism much like modern "baby dedication." Luther and Thomas Campbell said the same thing: "Faith must have an object to attach itself to."
Jesus defined faith as leading to baptism. Using another word which does not just mean "failure to comprehend and believe," or apistis, Jesus defined those who were not "believers" as treacherous people who call God a liar.
"Until the rise of the change movement in schools such as Abilene and Pepperdine, our brethren had no difficulty agreeing on the meaning and purpose of baptism. In fact it was one thing on which we had unanimity.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "We rise up out of the water to become God's partners, not his puppets..." (p. 11).
This is a Shellyism: we must PARTNER with God in order to work out a new ration of scripture. Why? Why because our culture has changed. I want to scream out with ecstatic joy at such a truth. Culture always changes but God's words last forever. Shellyism believes that because of the Heisenberg Uncertainty principle that truth can never be certain. But Heisenberg was the German father of the atomic bomb where certainty is absolute on any level humans can grasp. The loss of faith is explained like this: If you want to know the direction and speed of a guided missile you "shoot" a radar beam at it. However, in determine the speed you CHANGE its course so the missile misses.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Is baptism a human work or a divine one? The question itself pits humanity against God...It breaks the mystical union of divine and human that we see in Jesus" (p. 11).
The answer is that an uncertainty can be deliberately introduced by asking if it is a human work. No one but infant baptizers have ever held it to be so. Peter says that it is baptism meaning "water" but it is NOT the work of washing off external filth of the sacrificial priests. It is the time and place where we REQUEST that God sprinkle our hearts (not heads, please) from an evil conscience or gives us A good conscience or consciousness. Without water baptism where we make this REQUEST (which is not a work) God does not promise to remove the veil. The Jews were veiled at Mount Sinai when they rose up to play in musical, perverted worship of the Egyptian trinity.
We have heard that argument: the preacher and elders teach false dogma but when you try to quote Scripture to them they refuse to get into a debate with "pitting the Bible against itself." Must have learned that at ACU.
"Notice that they are the ones raising this question that he says pits humanity against God. Can they explain how asking a Bible question breaks the mystical union of divine and human in Christ? You have to have a doctorate in theology to see that!
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "is not primarily an act of obedience that qualifies us for salvation. It is not like a lever we throw to receive the membership card that will gain us entry at the pearly gates" (p. 12).
But we have quoted about everyone above and THEY say that we might BELIEVE the Gospel but that has no meaning unless we OBEY.
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Ro.6:16
Bible literacy 101aaa for the slow ones in the slow group clearly shows that baptism is an act of obedience without which there is no faith, but APISTIS: treachery and calling God in Christ a liar. Jesus didn't say anything about PEARLY GATES. He told those who are LADEN DOWN with pagan rituals to "come learn of Me." A disciple is a STUDENT (remember). He gets into eisihodos or the road and enters into discipleship EIS or because of obedience in baptism.
In fact the word REST or Greek PAUO
Pauô, includes to: bring to an end, stop or silence by death, take one's rest, cease, have done, of one singing or speaking.
Pauo means stop the polemos or battle, fight, war: stop levying war against another, anaireisthai or airô egeirein, kathistanai, epagein to begin a war
Pauo means: STOP the: melôid-ia , hê, singing, chanting,
Pauo means: Stop the pain of: aoidê [aeidô] meaning lifting up or heresy.
Pauo means: Stop the Thamyris, a Thracian aoidê [aeidô]. Orpheus the Thracian is said to have invented the worship called THRESKIA.
Pauo means: Stop the charismatic music which is with clanging cymbals: Klangê
Pauo means: Stop the: Panos orgai panic fears (i. e. terrors sent by Pan), Eur.:--but, orgê tinos anger against a person or at a thing, hierôn orgas wrath at or because of the rites.
Pauo means: Stop the Dancing they tried to force on Jesus
Pauo means: Stop the Sorcery. The sOPHISts are the OPHIS serpents which, as in Genesis is a Musical Enchanter. Anaireô: having raised the victim from the ground, so as to cut its throat.
The Pauo Jesus died to give us means: To Take Thy Rest:
Klisia a place for lying down, henceI. a hut, cot, cabin, such as besiegers lived in during long sieges, Il.:--that they were not tents, but wooden huts, appears from Il. 24.448 sq.; and when an army broke up, it burnt them on the spot, Od. 8.501
- Ii. a couch or easy chair, Od., Pind.
- 2. a bed, nuptial bed, Eur.
- Iii. a company of people sitting at meals, NTest.
- Iv. a reclining or lying, Plut.
- Paue stop! have done! be quiet!
Then only if Holy Scripture is "taught as it has been taught" Jesus can be our ONLY TEACHER.
Again, Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "is not primarily an act of obedience that qualifies us for salvation. It is not like a lever we throw to receive the membership card that will gain us entry at the pearly gates" (p. 12).
"Did you ever hear any Christian anywhere ever make such a ridiculous statement? They imagine such distortions and then imply that such is our view. Such is dishonest and misleading.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "The picture we get at the baptistery should (be) where the fragments of our humanity are being put back together under God..." (p. 12).
The Bible says that baptism is where we have our SPIRITS or MINDS swept clean. In fact, the prophecy of baptism used in Mark carries the meaning of the FULLER: he immerses, stamps, twists and WRINGS OUT all of the dirt or "humanity." Paul in Romans 6 and 7 says that it pictures the DEATH of our humanity.
The universal picture of baptisma is DEATH. The water is the chaos of destruction. The flood speaks of death to sin and the sinners. They died IN the waters. We died and are THEN baptized all at once. Jesus does not put us back together: the person is static or submissive while God destroys the old "spirit" filled with "demons" and simply makes it HOLY or pure so that He can fill us with the Spirit through His words which "are Spirit and Life." Baptism does not cure all problems any more than a student is cured by submitting to a Physics professor.
If after baptism the preacher preaches out of Baptist or pop psychology then Jesus WILL NOT be our teacher. When we can say "thus saith the Lord" then God in Christ is our Teacher just as He is in our spirits or minds.
Now, the ritual putdown of everything church of Christ. Would that they use their freedom to hate and be honest enough to hire on with a Baptist church. Ooops! No honest Baptist church would hire one who has turned and betrayed the church who got trapped into hiring them.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Churches of Christ have tended to look at salvation through the window of conversion, emphasizing salvation as an object we come to possess or a situation we enjoy:
"it is forgiveness of sins...Unfortunately...we've handicapped our ability to appreciate baptism's power to shape all of life" (p. 12-13).
Jesus said SAVED or CONVERTED and Peter said REMIT SINS and CONVERSION. Conversion or remission or salvaiton mean the same thing in their effect. This is the act by which God in Christ--Who gets to define the terms--accepts us into discipleship.
That's because the "Jesus" of the Bible drew a parallelism: Unless you are born again of water and the Spirit you cannot either SEE or ENTER the kingdom of God.Remember, that the kingdom is within you:
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Jn.3:5
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Mt.18:3
Peter could hold that in his memory long enough for his sermons on the day of Pentecost. The Spirit of Christ made sure that the church see both the conversion and remission of sins as meaning the same thing. And it has no mystical components hallucinated by reading pop sorcerism:
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mk 16:16
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ (Father, Son, Spirit) for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. Ac.2:41
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Ac.3:19
This is fulfilled prophecy:
None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. Isa 59:4
They hatch cockatrice eggs, and weave the spiders web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. Is.59:5
Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey. And the Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment. Isa 59:15
And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. Isa 59:16
And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn (convert) from transgression in Jacob, saith the Lord. Isa 59:20
As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord;
My spirit that is upon thee,
and my words which I have put in thy mouth,
shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seeds seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever. Isa 59:21
While they literally hate and judge (meaning to try to hurt) conservatives and label them as legalists, not the following which is the MARK of all of the NEW heresy taught by Nimrod at the towers of Babylon.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "congregations should work...harder to explore creative ways of investing their ...practice of baptism with its full meaning and of amplifying the excitement surrounding this wonderful rite of passage" (p. 13).
No, no, no: the Jesus of the Bible does not want us to WORK HARDER or BE CREATIVE or INVESTING into baptism something God did not do! Legalism! Rank, legalism. Webster notes:
3. To clothe, as with office or authority; to place in possession of rank, dignity, or estate; to endow; to adorn; to grace; to bedeck; as, to invest with honor or glory; to invest with an estate.
I do invest you jointly with my power. --Shak.
4. To surround, accompany, or attend: Awe such as must always invest the spectacle,
Rite of passage means that one has FULFILLED all of the rules and requirements for citizenship as an adult. The ceremony is a SYMBOL of what the person has already done on their own. Rites of passage in the "musical" cults was always ritual perversion. In the Promise Keepers the lads went through their phallic journey by beating drums and carrying around an ox goad (a phallic symbol) probably to intimidate the girls with the Baptist male superiority figure.
"One of his suggestions is
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Clothing the person baptized in a new outfit picked out for the occasion."
Many of our Pentecostal neighbors do this.
I tell you what I think: I think that Philip and the eunuch stripped off naked before they went into the deep stream. In later times, the person was literally stripped and washed. The first so-called deaconesses in fact were to help hide the women from the baptizer and do the delicate washing.
Why not teach the person the spiritual significance which cannot be seen nor made into a spectacle without taking over God's power:
for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Ga.3:27NIV
Is one clothed by faith only? Of course not. We go into the waters spiritually or even physically naked: we come out fully clothed with the righteous garments of Christ
Clothed or put on:
Enduo (g1746) en-doo'-o; from 1722 and 1416 (in the sense of sinking into a garment); to invest with clothing (lit. or fig.): - array, clothe (with), endue, have (put) on.
How can you tell people that they can sink into the folds of the pure clothing of Christ without being WASHED which came after the priest accepted the sacrifice? Only within the sanctified garments could the priest enter into the presence of God.
I tell you what God and Paul thinks: Paul's only worship word was to give heed to the Word as a way to give heed to God. The colorful uniform calls attention to the clowns or buffoons so that it is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to focus on Christ Who is doing the spiritual washing. All of this is an attempt to BLEED OFF worship from God. I can tell you also that baptism works in a stream (mine) or even in total blackness of night.
"Some Serendipities: In speaking of new disciples they write,
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "They know that not all change is growth, yet they also realize that there is no growth without change. The thought of adjusting their beliefs, accepting new practices, or correcting their understanding of some passage of Scripture does not frighten them" (p. 15).
There is no fear: only contempt for those who believe they have PARTNERNED WITH God and had, in the words of John York and Rubel Shelly, some of those SURPLUSE words the Spirit could not stuff in the Bible, these words suddenly be revealed. Oddly enough, they contradict the SPIRIT OF CHRIST in the olden Bible.
A tree grows based on its plant DNA. It does not improvise or innovate or change: it simply duplicates after the PATTERNISM which God put into it. The book of Eunuch uses the example of PLANTS and animals to show that THEY obey the laws God wrote down for them.
On the contrary, evil humans are more ignorant than a dog because they spit in God's face and refuse to follow the rules He has put into them. Their evil was caused by show and tell including music and sexual perversion to seduce. That is why God is coming again with ten thousands of His saints or angels to destroy the wicked Lucifer types: Lucifer is defined as a "singing and harp-playing prostitute."
They consider how the trees, when they put forth their green leaves, become covered, and produce fruit; understanding everything, and knowing that He who lives for ever does all these things for you: Eunuch 1-6:1
That the works at the beginning of every existing year, that all his works, are subservient to him, and invariable; yet as God has appointed, so are all things brought to pass. Eunuch 1-6: 2
They see, too, how the seas and the rivers together complete their respective operations: Eunuch 1-6: 3
But you endure not patiently, nor fulfill the commandments of the Lord; but you transgress and calumniate his greatness; and malignant are the words in your polluted mouths against his Majesty. Eunuch 1-6: 4
Eunuch 1-6: 5 You withered in heart, no peace shall be to you! But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. See Jude 10
Therefore your days shall you curse, and the years of your lives shall perish; perpetual execration shall be multiplied, and you shall not obtain mercy. Eunuch 1-6: 6
In those days shall you resign your peace with the eternal maledictions of all the righteous, and sinners shall perpetually execrate you; Eunuch 1-6: 7
Shall execrate you with the ungodly. Eunuch 1-6: 8
In the next paragraph, the writers (as always) falsely accuses churches of Christ with what THEY are doing. Very cunning to the blind being led by the blind. However, as at the musical idolatry at Mount Sinai, the outsiders will see them as a laughing stock or buffoon:
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Over the centuries, many people and even churches have tried to re-mold Jesus into a shape easier to manage and more compatible with their own programs, hoping to pass off a poorly forged portrait of Jesus as the real thing.
The Grace Centered writer wants to transform Jesus into a party type guy: yea, even gregarious! Probably wore pink! Rubel Shelly says that Jesus would join in our barbecue dinners. Sure, a church which celebrates the life of Jesus rather than mourn His death takes the Lord's Supper with swine flesh still in their teeth. The Jesus of the Bible is quiet and peaceable: He would never pound a pulpit: He had the uncommon decency to stand up to read the text and sit down to dialog with the people. Churches don't HAVE programs: they are schools of the Bible and meetings (synagogue) of prayer and fellowship. Paul told Timothy to give attendance to the public reading of the Word, to exhorting that portion and to teaching the doctrine of that portion. This was identical to the synagogue which did not preach nor allegorize.
Jesus is the name (singular) of the Holy Spirit. Max Lucado and Rubel Shelly claim that the Holy Spirit is God's song writer and dance master! The Dionysus, perverted cult who DARED to try to dance with God were repudiated. Jesus died to give us rest: the new style worship is charismatic (perverted) and ENERGY or works oriented. The Jesus of a faithful church of Christ sits down so that we can come learn of Him without the spiritual anxiety created by those pretending to stand in the holy places claiming to be Christ by claiming to "lead you into the presence of God." The word HERESY is related to the word AEIRO which means to lift up to take away for your own use. The WEAPON of those lifting (as Kleptomania) is AIODING or singing exciting non-Scriptural songs.
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: Wherever the teaching of Jesus becomes uncomfortable, they learn to ignore it, devising ways to sidestep his plain demands or substituting their own hobbies for the items he was truly passionate about.
No one can misunderstand the clear teachings of Jesus, Paul, Peter and most of church history. It is the Zwinglians who are uncomfortable with confessing that they must be WASHED of their own personal sins. Again, the washing process is quite violent: people do not obey because they do not want to open their minds or spirits for an intimate housecleaning by God.
Nothing could be plainer than the prophecy and Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Peter and Paul and pre-Baptist church history understood it. So, people become UNCOMFORTABLE with thinking that they have to ASK God for something like A holy Spirit. So, they invent to themselves false dogmas that God MUST select and save THEM without their having to condensed to Gods of High Places. Then, and only then, will they be baptized in order to JOIN THE CHURCH and be able to take communion and speak out.
These writers CANNOT misunderstand the clear teaching without being spiritually blinded by God or by having a Satanic agenda to change church into a "theater for holy entertainment."
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "Not everyone claiming to follow Jesus really does so...Yet when enough people agree together on a counterfeit definition of discipleship, the image they present can be deceptively compelling. A whole church can buy into a forgery" (pp. 21-22).
If a musical worship team claims to lead you into following Jesus you might remember that Jesus saw the musical minstrels or pipe player and singers trying to HELP Him He cast them out more or less violently as one casts out DUNG from the slaughter grounds which is where the levitical Warrior Musicians made a great crashing sound but NEVER music.
We noted that Discipleship is to Lord Jesus Christ: not to the community church or commune. Rubel Shelly, Lynn Anderson and Max Lucado are teaching the Promise Keepers or Purpose Driven Cult system of Shepherding or Discipleship. They, of course, have the spiritual superiority to do the discipline including your finances, thoughts and sex lives. This claim including pay exactly defines a Pharisee:
"This is a perfect picture of the change movement and the deluded churches that have embraced its counterfeit message.
The authors state
Jeff Childers and Frederick Aquino: "their purpose is to draw each person more deeply into reflection and prayer about God's work in our lives" (p. 27).
Paul said that we SPEAK the inspired Biblical text externally. Then, as many historians note, we can take the Psalm home with us and speak to OURSELVES throughout th week. The Divine process is this: God speaks as we speak His Words. Then, we REFLECT on the WORD of Christ all week. Paul said that the Jews who once worshiped at houses built with human hands NOW worship in the PLACE of the human spirit as we devote ourselves to the Words of Christ, the Spirit or "that which is written."
"While briskly walking away from Christ's revealed will on a score of matters, change agents feign a greater devotion and piety than any of us poor folks who cling to the simple Biblical faith of our fathers and millions of other saints from the earliest days of Christianity.
"This book is a perfect demonstration of the need for preachers and teachers to "speak where the Bible speaks and call Bible things by Bible names." Change agents scoff at these ancient slogans, not realizing that they of all people need to heed their message.
This is a fact: they scoff at the notion that God has the right to COMMAND directly and by His silence. We have collected some Biblical proof that God INSISTS that we follow His commands or "there is no truth in them." We have also collected the UNIVERSAL historical demand that our authority is the Bible's commands, examples and inferences. If we can infer something then how dare we deny God the right to infer?
