Hebrews Chapter 11

Faith Only is not a Biblical Concept: Faith must have an object. All who are justified by faith obeyed God's believed commandment. What counts or justifies is "faith working through love." Romans chapter 10 ends with:

For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Hebrews 10:36

For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Hebrews 10:37

Now the just shall live by faith:
........... but if any man draw back,
........... my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Hebrews 10:38

But we are not of them
........... who draw back unto perdition;
........... but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:39

NOW faith

is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews Chapter 11:1

For by it the elders obtained a good report. Hebrews Chapter 11:2

Faith is not simple belief: faith is the total assurance which one can only possibly have when they have done that which simple belief demands. If I say, "get in out of the rain and you will be dry" you might believe IN ME. Or, you might believe that is the way to STAY DRY. However, if you don't get in out of the rain you have not CONFIDENCE that you are DRY.

Confidence is what we REST upon or rely upon when we do what God asks us to do:

Hypostasis (g5287) hoop-os'-tas-is; from a comp. of 5259 and 2476; a setting under (support), i.e. (fig.) concr. essence, or abstr. assurance (obj. or subj.): - confidence, confident, person, substance.

Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting. 2Co.9:4

For we are made partakers of Christ,

if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; Heb.3:14

Through faith we

understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Hebrews Chapter 11:3

By faith Abel

offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain,

by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. Hebrews Chapter 11:4

By faith Enoch

was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Hebrews Chapter 11:5

Pleased is:

Euaresteo (g2100) yoo-ar-es-teh'-o; from 2101; to gratify entirely: - please (well).

Euarestos (g2101) yoo-ar'-es-tos; from 2095 and 701; fully agreeable: - acceptable (-ted), wellpleasing.

For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. Ro.14:18

Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 2 Co. 5:9

And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Gen 5:22

Walked is the Hebrew:

Halak (g1980) haw-lak'; akin to 3212; a prim. root; to walk (in a great variety of applications, lit. and fig.): - (all) along, space, behave (self), come, (on continually, be conversant, depart, / be eased, enter, exercise (self), / follow, forth, forward,

But without faith it is impossible to please him:
........... > for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
........... > and that he is a rewarder of them
........... ........... that diligently seek him. Hebrews Chapter 11:6

Commeth to God:

Proserchomai (g4334) pros-er'-khom-ahee; from 4314 and 2064 (includ. its alt.); to approach, i.e. (lit.) come near, visit, or (fig.) worship, assent to: - (as soon as he) come (unto), come thereunto, consent, draw near, go (near, to, unto).

Rewarder is:

Misthapodotes (g3406) mis-thap-od-ot'-ace; from 3409 and 591; a remunerator: - rewarder.

Misthios (g3407) mis'-thee-os; from 3408; a wage-earner: - hired servant.

Seeking God through His Word is the primary meaning of "worship."

Seek: Ekzeteo (g1567) ek-zay-teh'-o; from 1537 and 2212; to search out, i.e. (fig.) investigate, crave, demand, (by Hebr.) worship: - en- (re-) quire, seek after (carefully, diligently).

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. Ro.3:11

Here is how God made provision:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:17

He that believeth on him is not condemned:

but he that believeth not is condemned already,

because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. John 3:20

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. John 3:21

(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. Ro.2:13

Jesus put judgment in His own Spirit Words:

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not:
............for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. Jn.12:47

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words,
............ hath one that judgeth him:
............ the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. Jn.12:48

How does one reject the counsel of God?

Reject is:

Atherteo (g114) ath-et-eh'-o; from a compound of 1 (as a neg. particle) and a der. of 5087; to set aside, i.e. (by impl.) to disesteem, neutralize or violate: - cast off, despise, disannul, frustrate, bring to nought, reject.

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves,

being not baptized of him. Lu.7:30

After Pentecost the entire world got the choice of accepting or rejecting Jesus by accepting His Words.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16

The standard is higher than under Law.

He that despised Moses law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Heb.10:28

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? Heb 10:29

By faith Noah,

being warned of God of things not seen as yet,
moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house;
........... by the which he condemned the world,
........... and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Hebrews Chapter 11:7

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Gen 6:8

By faith Abraham,
........... when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance,
........... obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. Hebrews Chapter 11:8

By faith he
........... sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country,
........... dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob,
........... the heirs with him of the same promise: Hebrews Chapter 11:9

For he looked for a city which hath foundations,
........... whose builder and maker is God. Hebrews Chapter 11:10

What Paul said:

WHAT shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? Rom 4:1

Abraham lived prior to the Law of works but not prior to God's direct commands:

For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. Rom 4:2

Abraham BELIEVED GOD. You CANNOT believe God and refuse to act on faith:

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Rom 4:3

Abraham obeyed God but this COULD NOT be based on the law which was hundreds of years in the future.

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. Rom 4:4

How God explained this:

Because that Abraham
............ obeyed my voice, and
............ kept my charge,
............ my commandments,
............ my statutes, and
............ my laws. Gen 26:5

Through faith also Sara herself
........... received strength to conceive seed, and
........... was delivered of a child when she was past age,
........... because she judged him faithful who had promised. Hebrews Chapter 11:11

Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. Hebrews Chapter 11:12

These all died in faith,

not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and
........... were persuaded of them,
........... and embraced them,
........... and confessed that they were
........... strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Hebrews Chapter 11:13

For they that say such things declare plainly (express faith) that they seek a country. Hebrews 11:14

And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. Hebrews 11:15

But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11:16

Still cannot grasp that the word RIGHTEOUSNESS and REGENERATION or SALVATION are in the Bible because they have DIFFERENT MEANING.

God didn't predestinate us to heaven or hell. He didn't even "predestinate us." That is AN untruth because it has no object:

Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,
........... that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

It is a big lie to translate that:

Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,
........... that we should be EVIL and BLAMEABLE before him in HATE:

PASSIVE OBEDIENCE, Huh! Maybe Waverunner will tell us how to be a pay out taxes PASSIVELY.

By faith Abraham,

when he was tried,
........... offered up Isaac; and he that had received the promises
........... offered up his only begotten son, Hebrews 11:17
........... Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Hebrews 11:18

Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. Hebrews 11:19

By faith Isaac
........... blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. Hebrews 11:20

By faith Jacob,
........... when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph;
........... and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff. Hebrews 11:21

By faith Joseph,
........... when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel;
........... and gave commandment concerning his bones. Hebrews 11:22

By faith Moses,
........... when he was born, was hid three months of his parents,
........... because they saw he was a proper child;
........... and they were not afraid of the kings commandment. Hebrews 11:23

By faith Moses,
........... when he was come to years, refused to be called
........... the son of Pharaohs daughter; Hebrews 11:24

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God,
........... than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Hebrews 11:25

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. Hebrews 11:26

By faith he
........... forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king:
........... for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. Hebrews 11:27

Through faith he
........... kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood,
........... lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. Hebrews 11:28

By faith they
........... passed through the Red sea as by dry land:
........... which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. Hebrews 11:29

By faith
........... the walls of Jericho fell down,
........... after they were compassed about seven days. Hebrews 11:30

By faith
........... the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not,
........... when she had received the spies with peace. Hebrews 11:31

And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthah; of David also,

(A Psalm of David, Maschil.) BLESSED is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Psa 32:1

What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven! What joys when sins are covered over! What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record. Psa 32:1LIV

Blessed is the man unto whom

the Lord imputeth not iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no guile. Psa 32:2
When I
kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. Psa 32:3

For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. Psa 32:4

I acknowledged my sin unto thee,
and
mine iniquity have I not hid.
I said, I will
confess my transgressions unto the Lord;
and thou
forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Psa 32:5

For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. Psa 32:6

and Samuel, and of the prophets: Hebrews 11:32

Who through faith

subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Hebrews 11:33

Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Hebrews 11:34

Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured,

not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: Hebrews 11:35

See the Music - Gymnasium Greek religion to which unfaithful Jews gladly adopted. The TORTURING is stretching one's hide on a drum frame and beating them to death with a baton.

See First Maccabees. Links to other abominations.

And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: Hebrews 11:36

They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; Hebrews 11:37

(Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. Hebrews 11:38

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith,

received not the promise: Hebrews 11:39

God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. Hebrews 11:40

None of these heros of the faith every RESTED or had faith in their actions. However, the fact that when God commanded, they acted by faith in God that what He TOLD them to do was right.

If they had not ACTED then there would have been no prior CONFIDENCE and certainly no confidence as a result of their FAILURE to be a DOER of the Word.

The Faith Only dogma of misunderstood Zwinglism simply has to explain away every statement which does not rest on THEIR OWN faith given to them because God picked them for salvation from all eternity. Like Mormonism, it is 1500 years too late to be of Christ.,
