Ray Downen Sectarianism in churches of Christ: Non-Instrumental?
9.22.21
The command from the Wilderness onward for the assembly was to Rest, Read and Rehearse the Word. As synagogue or ekklesia in the wilderness it was exclusively a place to read and understand the Word delivered by Moses .
Thomas Campbell agreed and wanted to restore:
Worship is a School of Christ [falling on your face spiritually]
Worship was Reading and Musing the Word of God.
Acts 13:27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their RULERS,
because they knew him not,
nor yet the voices of the prophets
which are READ every sabbath day,
they have fulfilled them in condemning him
Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth,
where he had been brought up: [educated]
and, as his custom was, [one-piece pattern of the Narrow Way]
he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day,
and stood up for to read. [ONCE each day of the week]
Acts 13:15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets
the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying,
Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation [comfort] for the people, say on.
Acts 15:21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
It is a STRONG DELUSION that God ever commanded a DAY for worship.
It is a STRONG DELUSION that God ever commanded any action by the hands of men as worship.
It is a STRONG DELUSION to claim that Jesus died in vain unable to "supply all that applies to life and godliness."
It is a STRONG DELUSION that God ever authorized ANY FUNDING for any STAFF to ride on the backs of widows
It is a STRONG DELUSION to claim that God commanded SINGING with or without a Mechanical Device.
It is a STRONG DELUSION and a LIE that there is a Law of Tithing or a Law of Giving
Worship is always defined as the most humble approach often FALLING ON YOUR FACE. That is the meaning of worship. Reverence and Godly fear recognizes that GOD IS A CONSUMING FIRE. WORSHIP is IN the Spirit or WITH the spirit giving attention to TRUTH, the Word, Logos, Regulative Principle outlawing any works with the hands of men.

A Sectarian or Heretic according to Romans 16 are Self-Pleasers: The Greek is Ariskos or Placeo which means "creating mental excitement through religious rituals": That is defined as rhetoric, singing, playing instruments acting or other "religious observations to which Jesus said the kingdom does not come.
This has the same meaning as laded burdens which are songs intended to induce some sens of awe or warning." The beyond-redemption mark as with the instrumental-Trinitarian-Perverted idolatry at Mount Sinai is of a pseudo-nobility class who fleeces the poor and performs rituals on the REST day: Sabbath or REST is the opposite of religious rituals and thus despises or blasphemes the true Lord-God who rescued the Hebrews and others from the Sumerian and other Towers of Babbling by "breathing Spirit" or inspired understanding in Adam who was an Aborigine or OF the DUST people. There are of the WORLD, the Kosmos or Mundus, the ecumenical or the kingdom of the Devil.
Pepperdine bonded with the NACC had their COSMIC worship and this year are performing the HIEROS GAMOS as the rise of the Babylon Mother of Harlots in Revelation 17: she uses "lusted after fruits" as in Amos 8 Purpose Driven to cause the fleeced lambs to hunger and thirst for the WORD but are prevented by MUSIC IN THE HOLY PLACES. In Revelation 18 ALL religious craftsmen such as speakers, singers, instrument players or "grinders" HAD ONCE deceived the whole world. Now, this is the mark of evil spirits OF the World or those Jesus said were from BENEITH are marked as SORCERERS and will be CAST ALIVE INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE.

SEE Sara.Barton.The.Song.of.Solomon my pastoral impulse this week is to proclaim the message of the Song of Songs. And here’s why: We desperately need public, communal language about sex, and we have an oft-overlooked resource in the Bible. I regularly read Song of Songs with college students in a Bible course I teach. And in that conversation, I own up to the fact that I like sex, that twenty-five plus years into marriage, my husband and I are still into each other, still engage in pillow talk with each other, and that we are learning with each passing year how to be more intimate with each other – sexually, emotionally, and spiritually.
Song of Songs is unique in several ways, one of which is the fact that it’s the only place in Scripture where a woman’s voice leads the conversation (the woman speaks 61 of 117 verses). In light of what we’ve heard lately, it seems like a good time to let a wise woman speak about sexual activity that’s right and good, a woman who not only speaks but sings and shouts about intimate, sensual, erotic passion. And in all her talk about kissing, touching, tasting, and smelling, she does not offend with crass or vulgar language. She exemplifies how it’s possible to speak about sex and intimacy appropriately. We might do well to let her teach us a thing or two.
The MARK of those from BENEITH who Violate the Word, Logos or Regulative Principle is that the SHOOT you in the heart and then blame you for bleeding on their Tutu..
Laura Buffington SEX and SALVATION: the Song of Solomon or the Hieros Gamos. With sex playing such a prominent role in the art and life of our culture, the church would be wise to reclaim the metaphor of sex as salvation. Making the whole story of our lives about the salvation found in physical intimacy is to miss the grander picture of intimate salvation promised to Beloved Humanity by God the Lover.
Matt. 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesus and Paul defined that as the PROPHETS and other prophecies concerning Messiah: that is the meaning of Holy Scripture.
THE REAL DECLARATION AND ADDRESS
5. That with respect to the commands and ordinances of our Lord Jesus Christ, where the Scriptures are silent as to the express time or manner of performance, IF any such there be, no human authority has power to interfere, in order to supply the supposed deficiency by making laws for the Church; nor can anything more be required of Christians in such cases, but only that they so observe these commands and ordinances as will evidently answer the declared and obvious end of their institution.
Much less has any [16] human authority power to IMPOSE new commands or ordinances upon the Church, which our Lord Jesus Christ has not ENJOINED. Nothing ought to be RECEIVED into the faith or worship of the Church, or be made a term of communion among Christians, that is not as old as the New Testament.
6. That although inferences and deductions from Scripture premises, when fairly inferred, may be truly called the doctrine of God's holy word, yet are they not formally binding upon the consciences of Christians farther than they perceive the connection, and evidently see that they are so; for their faith must not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power and veracity of God. Therefore, no such deductions can be made terms of communion but do properly belong to the after and progressive edification of the Church. Hence, it is evident that no such deductions or inferential truths ought to have any place in the Church's confession.
THOSE WHO IMPOSE VIOLATE THE BIBLICAL AND CHURCH HISTORY ROLE OF SCRIPTURE-ONLY AS HAVING ANY PLACE IN A CHURCH OF CHRIST.
INSTRUMENTALISTS HAVE NO COMMAND OR EXAMPLES OR NEED ANY REMOTE INFERENCES: IN Ephesians 4 of the Cunning Craftsmen or SOPHISTS who are speakers beyond the TEXT or that which is written, singers or instrument players: Paul said that they are marked as LYING IN WAIT TO DECEIVE.
All musical terms and names of instruments point to sorcery or witchcraft. That is because the witch of Endor used an old wineskin stretched over a hole in the ground as her "familiar spirit." Bone flutes made a sound the earliest witch doctor understood to create the laded burden or "spiritual anxiety" through rituals performed by cunning craftsmen or sophists: rhetoricians, singers, instrument players, actors, dancers or even prostitute who could "bring you into the presence of the gods" -- for a price.

According to an ancient custom, they were always castrated (spadones, semimares, semiviri, nec viri nec feminae), and it would seem that, impelled by religious enthusiasm, they performed this operation on themselves... People have missed that the Prophets were inspired by God as the Spirit (breath) OF Christ: He defined the day of REST both inclusively and exclusively. That PATTERN has never changed. The Church of Christ is built upon or EDUCATED by the Prophets and Apostles. The Word or Logos is the Regulative Principle as the TEACHING resource for the SCHOOL of Jesus Christ. Any thing beyond this one-piece pattern is HERESY OR SECTARIANISM. Histor notes that the first singing introduced c 373 was an early heresy which split the Western Church from the East. There is no example of group singing with or without instruments until long after the Reformation. No one tried to PROVE that God "commanded" instrumental noise in His School before the Disciples discovered PSALLO which has not musical content: it means to shoot an arrow or to pluck a string with the FINGERS and never with a plectrum. Those who claim authority to PLUCK their drum or PLUCK their flute are not interested even in the proof text.
Exodus 32 defines Instrumental and trinitarian idolatry at Mount Sinai asked God to turn the people over to worship the starry host; they never ceased even when God's punishment was beyond redemption. Holy Scriptures includes the Prophets and Apostles and only those prophecies concerning Messiah. Christ in Isaiah debunks the sacrificial system and the Jacob-cursed and God-abandoned Levites and defined the REST for the godly tribes and the tiny remnant God the father would give Jesus as A Little Flock which not no literate shepherd would lead to "besides the sounds of rushing waters."
Church or Ekklesia in Assembly is called SYNAGOGUE: vocal or instrumental rejoicing or rhetoric was always outlawed because the Purpose was that everyone be Taught the Word of God.

7.02.15
7.02.15 Legalism is defined in the Greek and Latin literature but legalism in the New Testament includes only using the Old Testament as a pattern. For instance, the Jacob-cursed and God-abandoned Levites is the only "authority" for the use of "instrumental music in worship." First, the Levites prophesying with instruments are called soothsayer-sorcerers both tasks required to stiffle the demons (Lord of the Flies) at the never-God-comanded animal slaughter.
Obeying the commands of Jesus and the Apostles was defined in the prophets, made more certain and left for a memory for us. A Church of Christ is built upon or educated by the Prophets and Apostles. Since the prophets repudiate the sacrificial system and any keeping of days or rituals, the Levites are excluded by Christ.
Rhetoric, singing, poetry, playing instruments, acting or dancing are clearly defined: you need talent, time, a long period of learning following the laws to the letter, speaking as performance, getting judged for your performance and the most legalistic of all SELLING your learning at retail: Paul calls that corrupting the word or adultery and the Greeks considered any of those selling body parts as prostitutes.
Church is a School of the Word and it is never legalistic to sit down, shut up, listen to the teacher and obey their doctrines.
To say that NOT using instruments always the mark of idolatry and burning is LEGALISM is the mark defined by Paul in Ephesians 4 which refutes "unity in diversity." The speakers, singers and instrument players are LYING IN WAIT TO DECEIVE.

3.19.15 Middle Eastern ECUMENICAL religion, any of the religious beliefs, attitudes, and practices developed in the ancient Middle East (extending geographically from Iran to Egypt and from Anatolia and the Aegean Sea to the Arabian Peninsula and temporally from about 3000 to 330 bc, when Alexander the Great conquered much of the area). They have had an enduring influence on Western civilization.
In Egypt, Thoth was the scribe in the pantheon. Mortal scribes were viewed as the human reflections of Thoth, and “the beak of the Ibis (i.e., Thoth) is the finger of the Scribe” (Wisdom of Amenemope, ch. XV, 17:7). The ancient Middle Eastern people believed that the universe resulted from the injecting of order (cosmos) into chaotic primordial beings or matter, followed by divine acts of creation
NACC SAYS: Also on Wednesday morning, Randy Harris of Abilene Christian University will usher us into heaven’s throne room in Revelation 4-5. As we enter this cosmic corporate worship service, we will suck in our breath, shield our eyes and drop to our knees before a God so glorious we can only describe Him with thunder, lightning, rainbows and jewels. He is the reason we will be victorious. The Ancient Middle East constituted an ecumene. The term ecumene comes from the Greek word oikoumene, which means the inhabited world and designates a distinct cultural-historical community. The material effects of the commercial and cultural interconnections that permeated the component regions of the ancient Middle Eastern ecumene are richly supplied by archaeological excavations, which provide evidence of the spread of architectural, ceramic, metallurgical, and other products of ancient Middle Eastern man's industry.
Jesus said that neither He nor His Little Flock are OF the World and are therefore able to hear the Word. He does not pray for the Cosmos or ECUMENICAL masses.

Manufacturing and services tended to be monopolized by professional guilds, including religious personnel specializing in sacrifices, oracles, divination, and other kinds of priestcraft. The mobility of such guilds throughout the entire area helps to explain the spread of specific religious ideas and techniques over great distances. Just as guild potters spread ceramic forms and methods, so also guild priests spread their religious concepts and practices from the Indian Ocean to the Aegean Sea, and from the Nile River to Central Asia. The Greek poet Homer, in the Odyssey, noted the mobility of guildsmen, mentioning religious personnel as well as architects, physicians, and minstrels. Guild priests called kohanim were found at ancient Ugarit on the Mediterranean coast of northern Syria as well as in Israel. Moreover, Mycenaean Greek (late Bronze Age) methods of sacrifice are similar to the Hebraic methods, which are preserved in many countries to this day in the traditional techniques of Jewish ritual slaughter.
In Revelation 18 they are called "lusted after fruits." They serve the Babylonian mother as craftsmen, speakers, singers, instrument players and probably prostitutes based on the brides or NYMPHS and the piping sound of the grinder-prostitute. John says that they will be cast alive into the lake of fire.
"The ancient Middle East [ecumenical] made a place for homosexuality and bestiality in its myths and rites. In the Asherah cult the qedeshim priests had a reputation for homosexual practices, even as the qedeshot priestesses for prostitution. Israel eventually banned both the qedeshim and qedeshot, while in Ugarit the and kohanim were priestly guilds in equally good standing. Baal is portrayed in Ugaritic mythology as impregnating a heifer to sire the young bull god. The biblical book of Leviticus (18:22--27) bans homosexuality and bestiality expressly because the Canaanite population had been practicing those rites, which the Hebrews rejected as abominations. Gender conflict is always connected to religious craftsmen: rhetoricians, singers, instrument players, actors or dancers. That may not be true but it is recorded as a reason for up to half of a congregation fleeing their investment.
Jesus came to seek and save a Little Flock: lambs rarely engage in expensive musical performances. It is the SECT called the WAY: a very narrow, exclusive road that fools cannot stumble into. Why should people become violent when others will not bow when they pipe.
Sectarian Instrumental Music Worship Timeline The Church of Christ (The Rock) prohibited vocal or instrumental rejoicing including rhetoric or "speaking your own words." ALL "dreams" about music in the assembly defined as a School (only) of the Word (only): Those who do not speak that Word Christ said there is no light in them. This timeline considers only the American Restoration Movement which fell into musical idolatry and claimed Biblical to become sectarian in the year 1878. However, that timeline applies to almost all protestant groups which needed no justification. That defines the World or Ecumenical as the reign of Satan (any anti-Logos influence). The ekklesia which assembles itself ONCE EACH WEEK by direct command and all approved examples as "synagogue" is defined as the SECT called the Way or Road commanded to teach what Christ taught in the Prophets and Apostles. This timeline is ignored in the brutal attacks against those who followed the pattern from the wilderness onward. Dr. H. Christopher Instrumental Music defines the Jewish-Catholic Pattern.

The heretic was the priest who lifted up the lamb to cut its throat: the parasite was the Levites who made noise and never music to make the lambs dumb before the slaughter. God does not provide any FUNDING for anyone to perform religious observations to which the kingdom does not come. Therefore, the cost of musical performances feed parasites and WALKS DISORDERLY.
Because there is no command, example or remote inference of God calling people out of their REST to engage in congregational singing with or without instruments, those who CHOOSE to make the assembly (synagogue) into a musical performance are FLAUNTING Scripture which uses musical instruments to mark those who say WE WILL NOT teach or obey what you commanded to be taught. Musical performances intends to contradict the command of Jesus:

Christian Churches separated from the Disciples for the same reason that Churches of Christ were never part of the "society and instrument party." Disciples understand that vocal and instrumental rejoicing was outlawed for the Church of Christ (the Rock) in the wilderness and was never part of its School of the Word. For the first time in recorded history the Christian Churches invented the PSALLO word and insisted that it commanded turning school of the Word into a theater for holy entertainment. Psallo never had a musical content but includes only "plucking with a string with your fingers and never with a plectrum." That happened in 1878.
A heretic is one who IMPOSES A PRACTICE not commanded by God and not necessary to carry out the command to "teach that which is written for our learning." The method is to "us one mind and one mouth" as the only way to prevent any of the hypocritic performers Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees.
Paul outlawed self-pleasure in Romans 15 which means "creating mental excitement." The latin placeo includes rhetoric, singing, playing instruments acting or anything. The command then is to "use one mind and one mouth to speak that which is written for our learning." These words define a Heretic or Sectarian who according to Paul in Ephesians 4 are LYING IN WAIT TO DECEIVE.

Girard 5.4.2 Behind the anthropological predilections against the victim's perspective, there is a very practical, quasi-historical reason:
namely, he victim is shunned and often killed. In the ancient world,
the role of music during ritual sacrifice was often
to drown out any cries from the victim.
When the priests who still believed that Dionysus or the "new wineskin god" was to be the Messiah
It roused the lust of many to restore the Abomination of Desolation in the temple now dedicated to
Zeus (now they say "Je-Zeus or hail Zeus just out of college). The "initiation of Dionysus" involved
the singing and dancing they hoped to induce in Jesus when they Piped. This was the "religion"
of the Agora or marketplace. This was a PAINFUL initiation and they played loud music to hide
the agony.
It is crucial that the victim not be heard.
The practical mechanics of making victims
means that it is unusual for the victim's perspective to survive.
In the world of ancient ritual it was probably impossible.
The Greek verb musteron means to close the mouth or shut the eyes.
Myth means to close ourselves to the victim
and tell the tale according to the perpetrator's perspective;
mystery cults are based on the silence of the victims;
music derives from drowning out the voice of the victim.
It was prophesied that Judas would FAIL in this attempt but the Levitical Warrior musicians
Mocked Jesus to the cross. However, their celebration. was short.
5.5.3 This is not to say that the victim's perspective is on display everywhere in the Hebrew scriptures. Girard has called them a "text in travail," that is to say, a text struggling to finally and clearly give voice to the victim in history.
The Suffering Servant Song of Isaiah 53 is but a pinnacle in this long, excruciating process in history of the victim's voice becoming heard

And it is a device of tyranny to make the subjects poor, so that a guard [20] may not be kept, and also that the people being busy with their daily affairs may not have leisure to plot against their ruler. Instances of this are the pyramids in Egypt and the votive offerings of the Cypselids, and the building of the temple of Olympian Zeus by the Pisistratidae and of the temples at Samos, works of Polycrates (
for all these undertakings produce the same effect,
constant occupation and poverty among the subject people);
and the levying of taxes, as at Syracuse
(for in the reign of Dionysius the result of taxation used to be that in five years men had contributed the whole of their substance).
Also the tyrant is a stirrer-up of war, with the deliberate purpose of keeping the people busy and also of making them constantly in need of a leader. Also whereas friends are a means of security to royalty, it is a mark of a tyrant to be extremely distrustful of his friends,
THE FIRST HERESY WHICH SPLIT THE EAST FROM THE WEST WAS MAKING SINGING HYMNS A PART OF THE ASSEMBLY: C 393
There is no command, example or remote inference of God calling people out of their REST to engage in congregational singing with "musical instruments." Instruments or machines are always the mark of people refusing to listen to God and sowing discord to turn the enemy into cowards. The Disciples of Christ INVENTED the psallo word in 1878 to prove that it COMMANDED musical instruments and those who refused to join were defined as "sons of perdition." Since there was no LAW of music Churches of Christ could hardly have ADDED an ANTI-instrumental law.
Christ the ROCK outlawed vocal or instrumental rejoicing for the Church in the wilderness. This quarantined the GODLY SECT from the Civil-Military-Clergy whom GOD abandoned, turned over to or SECTED OUT to "worship the starry host" because of instrumental idolatry at Mount Sinai which was without redemption becaus it had such a low view of God. There was no need for a LAW to silence people assembled (synagogued) only to REST, read the Word and rehearse it or discuss it. Reverence and Godly fear silences everyone but the speaker of the WORD, LOGOS or regulative principle.
Acts 15:21 For Moses of old time
hath in every city
them that PREACH him,
being READ in the synagogues every sabbath day.
ALL of the Scriptures command that God's Word be READ or SPOKEN and never sung because everyone knew that poets and song writers were liars and deceivers.
Aristotle: Melody Deceives: "Poets also make use of this in inventing words, as a melody "without strings" or "without the lyre"; for they employ epithets from negations, a course which is approved in proportional metaphors..
According to Philo, the gods of the pagans exploit this weakness of men. For the sake of a better effect, and with the intention of more easily cheating their devotes, that they have set their lies to melodies, rhythms and meters..
- The form of diction should be neither metrical nor without rhythm.
- If it is metrical, it lacks persuasiveness, for it appears artificial, and at the same time it distracts the hearer's attention, since it sets him on the watch for the recurrence of such and such a cadence..
A sectarian or HERETIC in the sacrificial systems was the priests who "lifted the lambs up to cut their throats."Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

The PARASITE was the musical sonder who "made the lambs dumb before the slaughter.
The heresy outlawed in Romans 15 was the SELF-PLEASURE of any and all performances such as rhetoric, singing, playing instruments or acting which created mental excitement (laded burden) which made the role of the assembly impossible: to use one mind and one mouth speaking that which is written for our learning.
HOWEVER, A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST IS A SECTARIAN OF THE WAY AND CONSISTS OF ONLY A VERY TINY NUMBER OF THOSE JESUS CALED OUT OF THE WORLD MEANING ECUMENICAL.
Because Churches of Christ had never in recorded history thought that the command to SPEAK meant a command to MAKE MUSIC, they did not JOIN with the Disciples of Christ or Christian Churches who became INSTRUMENTAL SECTARIANS by delibrately sowing discord among their own group. Churches of Christ were called Reformed Baptists in 1832 when the Christians claimed that "the Reformers have come over to us."
Fellowship means that you AFFIRM musical idolatry, that you ASSEMBLE with them (being at two places at the same time?), that you SUPPORT them. The New Covenant was made with the LAITY exclusive of Priests and Levites: it removes the laded burden (music and money) and repudiates the Burden Laders. In Ephesians 4 the Christ-gifted elders--if APT--were commanded to eject the cunning craftsmen or SOPHISTS defined as popular preachers for hire, singers or instrument players. Paul commanded that the be DESECTED because the hypocritic performers are marked as LYING IN WAIT TO DECEIVE.
12.22.14 New with the yellow background is some Scripture to warn you against those who accues you of what they are doing but at a higher ticket cost.
ALL OF THE "PROGRESSIVES" CLAIM: As I’ve written about before,
right now there are two streams in the Churches of Christ,
a sectarian stream
and an ecumenical stream.
Only the sectarians of the WAY are a Church or assembly of Christ. Christ in the wilderness and the Campbells defined:
A CHURCH is a School of Christ or the Word
Worship is READING and MUSING the Word of God
Paul commanded that we SPEAK the Biblical text or that which is written for our learning All of the Logos speak words such as LEXIS is the opposite of ODE or singing. "ODE and PSALLO" is the second part of Paul's series of parallels. Therefore, as in 1 Corinthians 14 ode and psallo are IN the heart meaning Keep it Silent while God speaks through the Word (only) If you REFUTE that then you are marked as NOT a School of Christ. The Ekklesia word as a means of financial gain is reallly the citizens of the Kingdom who live their own lives during the week without having to feed the threshing oxen. The members of the local citizenry gathers as SYNAGOGUE and ONCE A WEEK by direct command and approved examples. Both men and women are peaceful and silent (1 Timothy 2) so that "we might all be SAFE and come to a knowledge of the truth." That is the PATTERN. Richard Beck etal are correct but Jesus said that doctors of the law take away the key to knowledge and He sends strong delusions what they can never know is that:
A tiny few Churches of Christ belong to the SECTARIANS of the WAY which is a Road, Method or Pattern as a School (only) of the Word (only) as the Regulative Principle.
ECUMENICAL speaks of the World or Kosmos ruled by Satan and Jesus does not even pray for them.
The command of Scripture and the Restoration Movement was to COME OUT OF BABYLON.
That is because the Sect of the Way consist of an almost invisible and certainly inaudible group "umbrellaed from the storm" while the ECUMENICAL ruled by Satan gets the massed or collectivized mega-groups.

Those Jesus separated out of the world are and expect to be tribulated, slandered and even treated with violence: if they will lie to God to "turn your SCHOOL of the Word into a theater for holy entertainment" they will most likely hurt you if you follow the message of Jesus that if you SPEAK the Logos or regulative principle the massed multitudes (ecumenicals) will despise and hate you.

THE UNIVERSAL ACCUSATION AGAINST CHURCHES OF CHRIST WHO WILL NOT GO INSTRUMENTAL AND ECUMENICAL
A CHURCH OF CHRIST IS A TINY SECTARIAN BODY SECTED OUT OF THE WORLD OR ECUMENICAL PEOPLE OF THE WORLD.
Richard Beck ACU'S universalists or Ecumenical without knowing the meaning of words: maybe God made him do it.
As I’ve written about before, right now there are two streams in the Churches of Christ,
a sectarian stream
and an ecumenical stream.
PROVING THE STRONG DELUSION PROMISE, HE IS STATING THE TRUTH.
The historic Church from the wilderness is called a SECTARIAN quarantine of the godly people for the Civil-Military-Clergy abandoned to worship the starry host including Abaddon or Apollyon with the Jacob-cursed and God-abandoned Levites being the sorcerers (Revelation 18) singing and playing instruments. It is called the SECT they call THE WAY.
The Scribes and Pharisees were the EVIL sect: Jesus called them hypocrites and Christ in Ezekiel 33 named popular preachers for hiire, singers and instrument players.
The Instrumentalists became a SECTARIAN SPLIT from the historic Church of Christ and the modern heirs have become the ECUMENICAL SECT including any massed multitude separated into a performing "worship ritual."

Gary Holloway Ecumenical: First, [ecumenical] is biblical. “Ecumenical” is from the Greek word oikoumena, which is used 15 times in the New Testament for “the entire inhabited world.” The most interesting passage that relates to the modern meaning is Matthew 24:14: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

"The Orphic creeds were the basis of the Pythagorean brotherhood, which flourished in southern Italy beginning in the 6th century bc. The Pythagoreans were aristocratic fraternities that sometimes had a political scope. Their main achievements, however, lay in the fields of music, geometry, and astronomy. They discovered that these subjects could be explained by numbers and ratios. Combining Orphic eschatology (the study of the last things, especially death and afterlife) with their discoveries, they invested music, geometry, and astronomy with religious values. According to their doctrine, the original home of the soul was in the stars. From there ... (100 of 10,561 words)
"In cultic action music was used in preparation for prophecy. Julius Firmicus Maternus refers to this fact in his remarks on an African cult.
- With the air full of flute music,
- the priests would put on women's clothing and
- then call on the goddess so that,
- filled with a wicked spirit, they might
- predict the future to foolish men.
"In considering this cultic background it is necessary to understand the
- view of music as dispositive to divination,
- a view which derives from pagan philosophy.
This opinion resided in the old Pythagorean school, as Cicero notes. The Stoa also recognized the employment of music in the service of divination. According to Stoic teaching, ascesis and listen to music were preparations for the ecstasy which, along with purity of heart and a relationship with God, was considered to be the most favorable condition for prophesying.
The notion which was basic to this conception was closely connected with belief in the purifying power of music. In both instances there was a question of eleminating tensions and obstacles in man which could stand in the way of the infusion of the divine and its revelation. (Quasten, Johannes, pg. 40)
Abaddon-Apollon as leader of the muses (Locusts) was called the WASHER claiming that the music-induced madness purified the soul.

Sectarianism: Church of Christ adds anti-instrument law and rejects fellowship with musical instruments. Does this constitute heresy or make one a sectarian?
10.06.14 Was the Spirit OF Christ and Paul too illiterate to know how to command the use of instruments in the assembly?
First, since psallo never at any time or place in recorded history MEANT more than pluck or smite a string with your FINGERS and never with a PLECTRUM they would know that pluck had and has absolutely no "musical" content. That is why there is no recorded Bible or literary example of being able to instruct someone to pluck a string with one word. If you tell someone PLUCK there is no telling what would happen to you. The same is true in English and all languages.
Second, if you want to tell someone to PLUCK an INSTRUMENT there are compound words for all named instruments and STYLES of plucking.
Third, you blaspheme the Spirit of Christ by saying that:
Even if "psallo" meant play a harp it could NEVER be used to justify a guitar pick, a flute or drums
- He was too ignorant not to use TWO words such as PSALLO Plus A Harp.
- He was too ignorant not to use one compound word which meant play a harp
- He just wanted to throw in stumble words for those who have not been washed with water INTO the Word or school of Christ or
- He intentionally wanted to sow massive discord since singing as an ACT was first imposed in the hear 373.
Playing the part of those deliberately sowing discord and blaspheming, let's assume that the Spirit of Christ or Paul or anyone prior to 1878 was too illiterate to know about all of the compound words. For instance.

See how Amos condemns the musical worship of Remphan, Chiun or Molech (Chaldee 666). The chart proves that not even in the VILEST pagan temple could singers (associated with prostitutes) and musicians (associated with sodomites) could evern enter into the HOLY PLACE of their "god's presence." Any Levitical musician or singer who entered into the Holy Place as a type of the body or Church of Christ would be executed. Stephen shows how God TURNED THEM OVER TO WORSHIP THE STARRY HOST because based on the meaning of words the Israelites returned to MUSICAL IDOLATRY which always involved sexuality and homosexuality.
Ray Downen: The heretic is the one who creates division. In this case, those who separate are those who have added their unscriptural anti-instrument law and choose to have no fellowship with us who freely use musical instruments.
We believe the heretic is the one who creates division by adding their unscriptural instrumental law which says: take it or leave. Those who sow discord in order to attract a bigger crowd and thereby disrupt fellowship with their own body of believers sever the ties that bind. Christianity Today notes that one Methodist church has created five different Musical Sectarian Divisions.
A SECTARIAN in a remote sense is one who has the power to choose what they will do and with whom they will do and what they will do. Christian liberty gives one the power to be a sectarian.
However, in the Greek language and real examples, a heretic is one WHO CHOOSES to take your property by force.

The fact is that "innovators" or "progressives" either forced the introduction of the instrument or separated (disfellowshiped) from those who had never used instruments.
BLASPHEMY IS DENYING CHRIST IN THE PROPHETS AND USING THE MONARCHY AS ITS PATTERN.
The first two reasons assert that under the Old Testament, God did not just allow instrumental music, He commanded and blessed it. Rick offered the following passages for these contentions: 2 Chronicles 5:13-14; 7:6; 29:25-26; Psalm 33:1- 3; 92:1-3; 150:1-6.
Never mind that the godly tribes were quarantined. No singer or player went INTO or NEAR a holy thing or place on the penalty of death. Some of these patterns are separated from the last by up to 300 years.
CHRIST IN THE PROPHETS WARNED ABOUT THE LYING PEN OF THE SCRIBES.
Stand in the gate of the Lords house [courts], and proclaim there this word,
and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah,
that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord. Jeremiah 7:2
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,
Amend your ways and your doings,
and I will cause you to dwell in this place. Jeremiah 7:3
Trust ye not in lying words, saying,
The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord,
The temple of the Lord, are these. Jeremiah 7:4
Jer. 8:8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is WITH US?
LO, CERTAINLY IN VAIN MADE HE IT;
THE PEN OF THE SCRIBES IS in vain.
For I spake NOT unto your fathers, nor commanded them
in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt,
concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: Jeremiah 7:22
Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on John,
That the Pharisees puffed up unto strange boasting,
were wont to pretend that the Divine Word was with them and in them,
and therefore foolishly affirmed that they had advanced to marvellous wisdom,
the Spirit Itself will testify,
since Christ says by the Prophet Jeremiah unto them,
How do ye say, WE are wise, and the word of the Lord is with us?
For nought to the scribes became their lying pen;
the wise men were ashamed, were dismayed and taken;
what wisdom is in them? because they rejected the word of the Lord.
For how are they not taken rejecting the Living and Hypostatic Word of God,
receiving not the faith to Him-ward,
but dishonouring the Impress of God the Father,
and refusing to behold His most true Form (so to say)
through His God-befitting Authority and Power?
THE PROPHECIES BY CHRIST WERE FULFILLED BY JESUS CHRIST: JESUS AND PETER MAKES THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS THE ONLY TRUTH.
John 6:44 No man can come to me,
except the Father which hath sent me draw him:
and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:45 It is WRITTEN IN THE PROPHETS
And they shall be all taught of God.
Every man therefore that hath heard,
and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
2Pet. 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words
which were spoken before by the HOLY PROPHETS
and of the commandment of us the APOSTLES of the Lord and Saviour:
IT WAS THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST WHO SPOKE THROUGH THE PROPHETS AND NOT LYING SCRIBES whom He called hypocrites by naming speakers, singers and instrument players in Ezekiel 33.
1Pet. 1:10 Of which salvation the PROPHETS have inquired and searched diligently,
who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
1Pet. 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time
the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify,
when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ,
and the glory that should follow.
God did NOT speak through the lying pen of the Scribes who recorded the Monarchy which God had NOT commanded.
Heb. 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb. 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us BY HIS SON

THOSE WHO DELIBERATELY SOW DISCORD BY QUOTING THE LYING PEN OF THE SCRIBES (hypocrites: speakers, singers, instrument players) are defined by the Spirit:
Jer. 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you:
they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart,
and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
Jer 23:17 They say still unto them that despise me,
The Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace;
and they say unto every one that walketh
after the imagination of his own heart,
No evil shall come upon you.

Blasphēm-eō , pf. A. “beblasphēmēka” D.18.10:—speak profanely of sacred things, “eis theous” Pl.R.381e; offer rash prayers,What we want to do in this section is to show that sectarianism is created before an actual separation by those who add articles of faith or practices to a unified church; 1) with no explicit Biblical authority, and 2) over something not absolutely necessary for worship to take place.
That is the definition of sectarianism or heresy by all except those who revise history and say:
"I shot you in the heart and you broke our friendship by spurting blood all over my choir gown."
No one ever introduced instruments believing that they had Biblical authority. No one ever suggested that they could not worship without instruments. Therefore, introducing "teams" or instruments is an automatic fracturing of the fellowship even if it does not produce a split. Once this split has occurred, as in a divorce, congregational separation is simply a formality to allow peace to continue under different roofs.
Lipscomb wrote as late as 1878 that:
We do not think anyone has ever claimed authority from Scriptures to use the organ in worship. They only claim it is not condemned. It is used as an assister in worship...Prayer, praise, thanksgiving and making melody in the heart (mind) unto the Lord are acts of worship ordained of God, but no authority do we find for for the organ."
We allow it as a remote possibility that those with a vendetta against non-instrumental churches do not read history, do not care about history and therefore do not know who shot cock robin.

"There were those saying that they could "not abide the election of a Republican President." In which event they would destroy the Union. "And then, you say, the great crime of having destroyed it will be upon us! That is cool. Let Jack Guess, Baptist tell you who uses The Law of Silence:
"The Argument From Silence is Invalid."
"Some, in trying to get around the plain New Testament teaching on the type of music to be used in the church, have endeavored to argue from silence.
"According to this method, because the New Testament does not say,
"Thou shalt not use the instrument,"
and since there is no express condemnation of the practice,
it must be acceptable to God.
"This is a false conclusion derived from the erroneous premise that the silence of the word of God is as much a guide for men as its positive commands. In other words, some wrongly believe that a thing is all right for worship unless explicitly forbidden. But it can easily be demonstrated that this type of reasoning will not work.I get those gut-wrenching e-mails from people who have to endure teams claiming authority to worship for the people or to lead them into worship. Christianity Today notes that there are up to 5 different "musical sects" in some Methodist churches. The author's view is that one who introduces a new musical style creates a new musical sect. And, refusing to listen and admire the "idolatry of talent" does not make one a heretic.
We get a frequent response from those defining non-instrumentalists as Pharisees, hypocrites, sectarians and legalist. And yes, Zelots, fratricides, fire bombers and racists. With uncontrolled glee, they note how many readers they have or how the non-instrumental position is a loser:
Ray Downen: I note that fewer and fewer church members are led astray by thinking that God opposes use of musical instruments by Christians.
If we can believe that:
> Satan as Lucifer caused the FALL of the angels from heaven and came into the garden of Eden to WHOLLY SEDCE Even and, according to all traditions, sodomize Adam. He came equipped with wind, string and percussion instruments as a symbol of the replacement of the HOLY TRIBES.
As a NACHASH the "serpent" was a MUSICAL ENCHANTERS.

Psalm 41 prophesied that led by JUDAS (whose Judas bag carried the 'tongues' of wind instrument) whout try to TRIUMPH OVER Jesus. This word which outlawed "playing instruments and 'making a joyful noise before the Lord'" as the Warrior's Panic chant. And on and on which NO PREACHER is expected to know anything about.
> That Paul PROHIBITED instruments when he defined the MELODY (bow twanging, arrow singing, murderous) as INTERNAL or IN THE SPIRIT where Jesus and Paul said worship takes place. The booming and clanging and lifeless instruments or "carnal weapons" are NOT the way to do battle with principalities and powers in high places who seduced the world with mind-altering music.
> That the Holy Whore of Revelation 18 is defined by John so that literate people could see CIRCE the holy whore as a model of the end-time worship.
> That the REMNANT will be a tiny group of people who will be OUTSIDE THE CITY or camp to meet Jesus NOT in the PLACE of a human temple but in the PLACE of the human spirit--the ONLY place God promises to meet us.
Then you may not want to join Ray Downen as the MAJORITY are collected (as prophesied) by the MUSES who were resurrected LOCUSTS in the book of Revelation.
I almost prophesy that ALMOST ALL churches (named after Circe, the holy whore who seduced with music and drugs) and worshiping GOD who is GAD, the "god of FORTUNES" when the TRUMPET VOICE OF JESUS SOUNDS. Everyone will be heavily drugged by ENDORPHINS created by music with the effect of FIGHT, FLIGHT OR SEXUALITY.
When you trade "affirmations" to gain knowledge you might be surprised if eyes were suddenly open and the instrumentalists blaming the singers could read the Word of God just as it is written in black ink on white paper for all to see but, like the parables of Jesus, hiding the truth from those who don't love it or who would market it.
Based on the fall just off the Ark, the "backsliding" at Mount Sinai, the association between instruments and loss of respect for the Word (as it has been delivered), the captivity of Israel for loss of knowledge while enjoying music, the king of Tyre and of Babylon and the end-time Babylon repeat, we should expect that only a tiny remnant will be standing "outside the camp" when Jesus sounds the last trump while the universal church will be engaged in a trumpet quartet. I would expect that every musical instrument on the earth will be sounding in churches. So, being in the minority gives one confidence.
In spite of the actual truth, it is a historical oddity that those who create the new musical sects are not truly confident in their decision. Therefore, they may get relief by blaming "those being invaded" for "attacking the invaders." (Rubel Shelly.)
"To Lamar goes the credit for phrasing the 'guilt clause' which became a cardinal refrain of the organ apologists.
The organ was in the churches to stay.
The next move was to fasten 'guilt' upon any person or church who would commit one of the 'seven deadly sins' by dividing the church over the organ."And, Post-Modernism in the modern world:
"In August, the president's four-and-half minute speech-his first acknowledgment of wrongdoing-was a textbook example of post modernism at work.
Here were compartmentalization (I did wrong, but it doesn't matter because it was private),
contradiction (I accept full responsibility, but I'm a victim of my accuser), and
constructivism (my account, while legally accurate, was not forthcoming). So the charge and counter charge of sectarianism is a bit like: "That depends on what the meaning of is is."
Here is How and Why The Holy Spirit Was Not Silent About "Music."
Those whom I would bet have never read any original John Locke love to use "Locke myths" to identify churches of Christ as sectarians based on Lockian or Campbellian legalism. Before continuing to do so, you may read John Locke's A Letter Concerning Toleration by Clicking Here. John Locke understood Paul's principle of a new form of "teaching" which was so radical that it would allow once Orphic Vegetarian Instrumentalists in Rome to "assemble" perhaps for meal fellowship or "worship" with once Meat-Eating, Wine-drinking instrumentalist Dionysics. The prescription in Romans 15 which is not silent says that:
WE then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Romans 15:1
Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification (education). Romans 15:2
For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. Romans 15:3
In at least three Psalms, the AFFLICTION or OPPRESSION upon Jesus is connected to SINGING and or INSTRUMENTS. "There was never a PRAISE SERVICE in the synagogue" which began as "the church in the wilderness with Playing instruments and 'making a joyful noise before the Lord' outlawed." This singing and instruments was the TRIUMPH OVER to be used by Judas on Jesus and it was the WARRIOR'S BATTLE CRY something like the REBEL YELL.

Homer continues to show the source of a superstitious view that pagans were SONS OF GOD:
Hermes, crawled out of his BIRTH BED, found a turtle, made it into a GOD by gouging out its life and stringing its guts to make a harp. With this harp the infant stole Apollo's cows (worshipers) and forced them to walk backward to hide his THEFT BY MUSIC: a God at birth. DOES THIS SOUND POSTMODERN, POST-BIBLICAL AND POST CHRISTENDOM ERA?
(ll. 503-512) Afterwards they two, the all-glorious SONS of Zeus turned the cows back towards the sacred meadow, but themselves hastened back to snowy Olympus, delighting in the LYRE. Then wise Zeus was glad and made them both friends.
And Hermes loved the SON of Leto (Apollo) continually, even as he does now, when he had given the LYRE as token to the Far-shooter, who played it skilfully, holding it upon his arm.
But for himself Hermes found out another CUNNING ART and made himself the PIPES whose sound is heard afar.
(ll. 513-520) Then the SON of Leto said to Hermes: `Son of Maia, guide and cunning one, I fear you may steal from me the lyre and my curved bow together;
or you have an office from Zeus, to establish deeds of barter amongst men throughout the fruitful earth. Now if you would only swear me the great oath of the gods, either by nodding your head, or by the potent water of Styx, you would do all that can please and ease my heart.'
But as for sooth-saying, noble, heaven-born child, of which you ask, it is NOT LAWFUL for you to LEARN IT, nor for any other of the deathless gods: only the MIND of Zeus knows that.
I am pledged and have vowed and sworn a strong oath that no other of the eternal gods save I should know the wise-hearted counsel of Zeus.
And do not you, my brother, bearer of the golden wand, bid me tell those DECREES which all- seeing Zeus INTENDS.
As for MEN, I will HARM one and PROFIT another, sorely PERPLEXING the tribes of unenviable men.

WWJD?
Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Jesus didn't tell you to COME to a church which has used PROGRAMS and PERFORMANCE to make the assembly into a SLAVE LABOR CAMP: you are SLAVES OF THE WATCH TOWER where the watchmen are watching themselves and ENJOYING a trumpet quartet: until their brain kicks.
Labor is:
Phortizo (g5412) for-tid'-zo; from 5414; to LOAD up.. figurative to OVERBURDEN with CEREMONIAL or SPIRITUAL ANXIETY.
MUSIC IS A POWERFUL CREATOR OF SPIRITUAL ANXIETY: its effects are pronounced SEXUAL. However, you don't reach the VINEYAR'S sexual climax with God until you undergo something like the RUNNER'S HIGH. Those who PROMOTE MUSIC know that they are USING the musicians to keep your RATIONAL or spiritual mind off Christ. It needs no proving: if you are GIVING HEED to the musicians you CANNOT be giving heed to Lord Jesus Christ and HIS songs and sermons.
And the burden is the TITHE to pay for something for which Jesus Christ DIED. You tithe and you repudiate the SACRIFICE of Christ and when you MUSICATE you repudiate the WORD of Christ by the GIFT of Lucifer or Satan "the harp-playing and singing prostitute."
Phoros (g5411) for'-os; from 5342; a load (as borne,) i.e. (fig.) a tax (prop. an individ. assessment on persons or property; whereas 5056 is usually a gen. toll on goods or travel): - tribute.
The LAW OF GIVING is part of the DISTINCTLY AMERICAN RELIGION which is barely if at All CHRISTIAN. But Carroll Wimber of Vineyard says that AFTER you have had your MUSIC-INDUCED climax with God or the imaginged Holy Spirit "person" then NEXT ACT is GIVING OF MEANS. Doesn't it figure?
Christ as "Son" said that He subjected Himself to the "Father" so that He never spoke anything which He had not heard from the Father. Jesus then told the Apostles that unity depended on the Word. Paul decided that He would speak only what he had been told or had been later revealed by Christ the Spirit. Paul then told everyone who had problems to do the same thing: be like Christ and speak the Words of Christ or Spirit which the Spirit of Christ had revealed and would reveal (1 Pet 1:11).
Because there is no operative command to "sing" but to "teach" then to please our diverse neighbors by teaching or edification we should honor God by honoring His words. All of the sects in Rome would have depended heavily on meats or no meats, wine or not and ALL were addicted to the use of INSTRUMENTAL music to bring on the SPIRITUAL ANXIETY to make people believe that the gods were within. Paul prescribed the SYNAGOGUE which never had a "praise service" and assuredly no instruments. MUSIC is never a spiritual worship word in the Bible

We can truly "speak the same things" if we speak the revealed Biblical material.

MUSIC in the Greek world included both GRACE and MELODY. Neither of these included INSTRUMENTS. When instruments are included then they are NAMED. A psalmIST would be one who both sings and plays. If PSALLO "authorized" instrumental music it would ALSO authorize making the bow TWANG to send a SINGING arrow into the hearts of those we are DRIVING OUT INTO THE COLD just so we can become MUSICALLY SECTARIAN. Why not try shooting some of the good people with an arrow rather than driving them into having SEXUAL feelings?
Plato, Republic
[522a] that we seek." "No." "Is it, then, music, so far as we have already described it?1 " "Nay, that," he said, "was the counterpart of gymnastics, if you remember. It educated the guardians through habits, imparting by the melody a certain harmony of spirit that is not science,2 and by the rhythm measure and grace, and also qualities akin to these in the words of tales that are fables and those that are more nearly true. But it included no study that tended to any such good as
1 The ordinary study of music may cultivate and refine feeling. Only the mathematics of music would develop the power of abstract thought.
2 Knowledge in the true sense, as contrasted with opinion or habit.
Ioannes Secundus: The grace and melody of the lines and their voluptuous warmth of feeling have led them to be compared with the love-lyrics of Catullus, and the comparison is fully justified.
Phrynichus: But the dialogue was still quite subordinate to the lyrics of the chorus. In this department he won extraordinary celebrity by the grace and melody of his verses, which continued to be sung at Athens long after
When you SPEAK (externally) and SING and MAKE MELODY or WITH GRACE in the heart (internal) then the TEACHING of the REVEALED metrical material creates spiritual melody or:
Grace is: Charis (g5485) khar'-ece... Spiritual: the DIVINE INFLUENCE upon the HEART, and its REFLECTION in the life; including GRATITUDE
If the Lord Jesus Christ has not authorized it directly or through inspiration then it is imposible to do it with His authority.
He says "observe the silence" because if I haven't authorized it then you cannot do it with my authority.
He still does not (because He is not a legalist) say: "Don't do anything I have not authorized."
Why is that? That is because Christ was in the World and in Spirit in the Evangelists who go out seeking those who are capable of worshiping God in spirit and in truth. If He has to treat us like Children and say: "Don't play in the intersection" then He is not looking for us.
This is not remotely a "musical" or "symphonia" concept which was uniquely secular and is related to the end-time Babylonian religious-commercial institution which is probably set up in your hometown. This is a "teaching" concept.
Now, it is a fact that Paul didn't say: "Don't get drunk eating peyote buttons to move you into the presence of the gods."
Now doesn't that sound like Paul's earlier parallel statement? Christ is the one Teacher and He "sings to the Gentiles" only when we speak or sing His words:
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: Ephesians 4:21 (My Words are Spirit and Life. John 6:63)
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; Ephesians 4: 22
Lust is the overwhelming urge to do something we know is wrong. Once we do it we are forced to defend it. "Conversation" here seems to literally be "conversation" in the speaking to one another sense. The old deceitful lusts of the Ephesians, Colossians, Romans and Corinthians was for the uncovered prophesiers (female) to teach them where "authority" meant sexual authority.
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Ephesians 4: 23
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4: 24
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Ephesians 4: 25
Truth is: Aletheuo (g226) al-ayth-yoo'-o; from 227; to be true (in doctrine and profession): - speak (tell) the truth.
That "speak" word is the same as in the passages erroneously used for "music" rather than Scripture Singing or truth singing.
Jesus said that God is only aware of those who worship "in spirit" or in the mind and in truth as we speak His words one to another.
And doesn't that sound like the only acceptable form of worship according to Jesus?
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23
Truth is: Aletheia (g225) al-ay'-thi-a; from 227; truth: - true, * truly, truth, verity.
And what does that mean, Jesus?
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24
Our mind is to our spirit self as the Mind of Christ is to the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 2). And that nous or mind is equivalent to the naos or holy place. Only one worshiper and God will fit into the holy place (our mind) at one time. Paul defined the spiritual Jew as:
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly;
and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit,
and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Ro.2:29
I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia. 2 Co .2:13
Paul and others obeyed the direct command that worship is IN the PLACE of the human Spirit;
For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Phil 3:3
Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Phil 3:4
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; Rom 1:9
I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; 2 Tim 1:3
John was in his own Spirit as he worshiped on the Lord's day:
I was in the Spirit on the Lords day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Re.1:10
And the musical Levites cannot go there or lead us or jack us up to God without suffering death for a presumptious sin.
If you make deliberate mind-altering music while I am trying to meet God in my mind as His Holy Place, the Temple type will not treat you with kindness.
But, Jesus, you did not say: "Thou shalt not worship with thy instrument, hands and feet."
But then why should the Incarnate God of the Univere have to tell us that we cannot worship in every nerve (every) ending stimulated by an instrument which vibrates thy brain in thy brain cage and stimulates the impulse of "fight, flight or sex?" Again, the women singers were exercising authentia or sexual authority.
Using Albert Barnes terms, musical teams aim at "the lust of the eye and the lust of the ears."
I wouldn't even try to make such a law. It would have no value: the "doctors of the Law" would go to a 'Christian University' and stack up enough Phds to find a loophole. Neither would Jesus make such a law because God only seeks those who can worship in spirit (in the mind) devoted to teaching and comtemplating and dialoging the Word without having to draw lines because we don't enact legalistic rituals with or without instruments.
If God has to tell you: "Don't do it" then He won't bother.
So, let's look at some of the dialog which has been going on about this issue. I have decided to focus on this one observation because it has become a mantra. Our comments in Black and other quotes in blue. Perhaps, I can address the other things I believe misrepresent the non-instrumental view but it would be fruitless unless we determine what constitutes sectarianism.
Ray Downen outreach@sofnet.com
Ray Downen: The heretic is the one who creates division. In this case, those who separate
are those who have added their unscriptural anti-instrument law
and choose to have no fellowship with us who freely use musical instruments.
There is a good reason that "rhetoricians, Sophists (Ophis=end-time serpents), singers, musicians and craftsmen (techne) were the SOOTHSAYERS and all defined as of the SECT of the Hypocrites and known as PARASITES. Non instrumental churches down through history ADDED NOTHING. The entire Bible, church history and founders of denominations DENOUNCED instruments as the devies of the pagan SOOTHSAYERS or PROSTITUTES (and Sodomites). A parasite is one who DOES NOT KNOW either the Bible or history and CHARGES an unlawful wage for it.
The INSTRUMENTAL group ADDED their unscriptural PRO-INSTRUMENT LAW based on what they ignorantly term the LAW OF SILENCE.
The instrumental group choose not to have fellowship with the OWNERS OF THEIR OWN PROPERTY. They had to SUBMIT or GET OUT. It is a fact that non-instrumentalists were DISFELLOWSHIPED from participation in the neo-pagan churches which added INSTRUMENTS 100% to ADD attendance and contribution.
Correct: a heretic is the one who creates division.
If I have helped found and pay for a church building and YOU come in and decide to ADD INSTRUMETS contrary to minimal ethics, the entire Bible and ALL scholarship, and I am not strong enough to stop the invasion and STEALING THE CHURCH HOUSES OF WIDOWS then I will have to DEPART for two reaslons: First, my literacy and conscience will not allow me to participate. Secondly, in the original SECTARIANISM by instrumentalists and in PRESENT PERFECT TENSE CHURCHES I am told that if I publically object then I AM SOWING DISCORD and "we have issued you your first WARNING."
The illiteracy and rank immorality which forced the instrument in in the first place has no qualms about blaming the peacable believers for BLEEDING on them when THEY have shot them in the heart as surely as the MUSICAL MOCKING LEVITES helped lead Jesus into crucifixion
However, heresy may just mean that I have made a choice not to try to worship in my mind or spirit while the temple-like diversion noise is taking place. You see, animal sacrifices were not for God: He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and dispelled the pagan notion of sacrifice by saying: "If I get hungry I will not tell you." Additions to the trumpets as "church bells" made the horrors of animal slaughter tolerable to the priests who, as in all "like the nation's" temples, kept the evil noise of death and dying from the ears of the priests. Sacrifices are over.
There were no "chief musicians" in the Hebrew text: we get that like "psallo and psalmos" from the Greek. He was really the "overseer" or "exceller" or "straw boss" or "slave driver." He even drove Isralites into slavery to build a temple God could not live in. His work-product was not "music" because music is not a Biblica, spiritual worship word. He "sounded" or made a great crashing sound but he did not play music.
Later in Romans 15 Paul will allude to "singing to the Gentiles." David was miliitary commander and when he played and sang to the Gentiles it was because he believed that he had put the "Gentile" necks underneith his feet. David shed the blood OF the Gentiles.
Jesus is the Peace Maker and He shed His blood FOR the Gentiles.
But Sectarianism in the true sense means upsetting the assembly usually for some personal gain.
But fellowship does not mean attending a meeting where instruments are played. Fellowship means being a joint participator
Koinonia (g2842) koy-nohn-ee'-ah; from 2844; partnership, i.e. (lit.) participation, or (social) intercourse, or (pecuniary) benefaction: - (to) communicate (-ation), communion, (contri-) distribution, fellowship.
Koinonos (g2844) koy-no-nos'; from 2839; a sharer, i.e. associate: - companion, * fellowship, partaker, partner
We are aware of a huge body of material by many groups rejecting instrumental music because it is unscriptural and violates Paul's command which imitated Christ and which would unite an assembly.
But, we are aware of no latter-day defense of instruments which will hold water in the face of its divisiveness in every denomination. The claim by one of Ray's writers that Post-Biblical writer's use of "psallo" authorizes instruments assuredly needs to be addressed.
However, we are aware of no collection of epithets aimed at the heart of the persons of instrumentalists. If these words do not add up to "Raca" I don't know how you would call one an evil fool.
A sectarian is one who creates "a division and the formation of a party or 'sect' in contrast to the uniting power of 'the truth,' held en toto; 'a sect' is created "generally with the expectation of personal advantage." (Vine)
That was assuredly the MOTIVE of the Standard Publishing in declaring THEIR song book the only authentic book and even signing up little children as LIFE MEMBERS: Sure, just like Jim Bakker.
In Christianity Today Hamilton recognizes the common meaning of sect: If one party in a congregation introduces a new style of worship based on instrumental music or choirs or "musical worship teams" one has created a new musical sect. It is a new division of the congregation based on introducing a new musical style. The Christian Church introduced the instrument and usually tried to get the church building with it. At times they excluded the non-instrumentalists because they didn't want them upsetting the new "spirit."
Those who are alienated by the youthful play simply have to suffer in silence or to keep doing what they have always done in rented property.
This means that I cannot create a sect if I refuse to be coerced to participate in the new musical sect and leave in order to continue doing what I have always done.
Continuing to teach against that which broke the fellowship does not make one a Pharisee, hypocrite, sectarian or legalist. One might believe that the hostility toward those who try to present the Biblical and historical reasons means a loss of confidence in the instruments which "broke the camel's back."
The Book of Enoch we noted along with its other versions model the thesis that once you have been seduced with music you can never turn loose. The only sense of peace which "Genun" as the Jubal, Jabal, Tubal-Cain and Naamah character could get was to try to force everyone to join the "mixed-sex choir and instrumental music" Sect. The Book of Enoch is quoted at least 128 times in the New Testament, including by Jesus, Peter and Jude. Whether inspired or not it was kicked out of the Catholic package because it would repudiate much of its system.
Now, why do you suppose that all of the ancient Jews had that opinion about the origin of music?
When the post-dispersion Jewish Kabbalists began to ask "what happened?" they finally read the Bible and saw that the Enoch story and the nature of the Law, the temple and all that went with it was clearly right there where it had been overlooked by all of the "scholars." Josephus also has a different take.
You don't have to remove your body into another building to have created a new sectarianism right there in the middle of yesterday's unity. And you have created the "in place" musical sect without any Biblical or personal absolute need in order to worship acceptably.
Our e-mail shows that in many churches there is a thick, blackness between yesterday's Biblically united group and today's new musical worship team sect separated from the continuing congregational singing group.
The "expectation of personal advantage" makes the definition of a Pharisee and sectarian fairly certain
Yet, Ray Downen is locked into the association between not performing music with being a Pharisee:
Ray Downen: What I note is that they were hypocrites, and performed the pious deeds to be seen of men, and that's what Jesus condemned them for.
I am not sure how congregational singing as spiritual worship using the spiritual "harp of God" and not having the instruments means that one is "performing a pious deed to be seen of men." The world, almost universally doomed, would love you if they saw you performing "music" but consider you strange if you do not.
A "band" would mask out the voice of a retarded girl we see who cannot carry a tune nor read the words. But she has memorized the words and sings "in spirit and in truth."
What we know for a fact is that the new praise craze confesses that the "talent and spiritual looks of the team lead the worshipers to think about God." Does the Rock guitarist not perform to be seen of men?
So, we again have truth turned on its head: hypocrite really means "an actor." Rarely, will any one voice stand out for admiration when the congregation is singing "with one voice."
So, let's all confess to being hypocrites and get that out of the way. Next, we need to understand why refusing to worship with instruments makes one a sectarian pharisee hypocrite brother-killer. And we need to look for some personal advantage in not using instruments in order to be branded a sectarian.
Ray Downen: << Surely our goal is to seek to be like JESUS rather than like those He soundly and thoroughly condemned.
How could one be like Jesus and sing and play an instrument. The Old Testament is filled with associating musical instruments (noise instruments since the word music is not there) and ignoring His Word. And Jesus put out the musical mourning team "more or less violently" so he could heal the young Girl. The word means LIKE DUNG.

while another causes to resound the bronze-bound cotylae."and again, stringed instruments raise their shrill cry, and frightful mimickers from some place unseen bellow like bulls, and the semblance of drums, as of subterranean thunder, rolls along, a terrifying sound.

Barbarians Playing the Barbaton: There is NO OTHER OPTION: musicians were Prostittutes or Sodomites or MOCKED the type of Jesus Christ in the sacrificial system. They later MOCKED Jesus musically in the same way trying to force Him into the perverted song and dance of Dionysus. You do know that the anticipated Messiah of the Jews was Dionysus? In addition to the SECARIAN Pharisees and Scribes, Jesus adds the HYPOCRITES. This was a SECT in the Greek world. "rhetoricians, Sophists (note OPHIS or serpent meaning), singers and musicians" performed the TASKS of the sorcerers or soothsayers in the book of Revelation. They added nothing to anything and were therefore PARASITES. All musicians with the ISTS such as harpISTS were polluted and were parasites:Latin: cithari-zo , a-re, v n., = kitharizô, to play on or strike the cithara, Nep. Epam. 2, 1; Vulg. Apoc. 14, 2.

Here are those He condemned along with the performing Pharisees:
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 11:15
But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, Matthew 11:16
And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. Matthew 11:17
This was the Dionysus singing and choral dance engaged in by women not under authority, or by effeminate men. Paul compares speaking in tongue or singing our of our own spirit to a lifeless musical pipe which cannot speak a known language.
And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? 1Co.14:7
The Pharisees did their religion as show and tell even though they did not play instruments like the organized clergy.
And they still try to overpower the Word of God by playing the pipes and insisting that spiritual worshipers dance to their tune. Jesus would warn all of us to "come out of her."
If you have ears you can hear God always condemning instrumental attempts to silence His quiet Word.
So, to be like Jesus you must recite the Psalms which He inspired as "Spirit." He said that He would only speak what He heard from the Father. How can you be like Jesus and "sermonize" the words of the Father to give them more power, and versify sentimental poetry?
How would you go about proving that Jesus played instruments and sang sentimental, often-erotic love poems?
Ray Downen: EVERY "worship law" for Christians which has been made a cause for division within the Restoration Movement is based upon the law of silence, for God certainly made no such laws.
That is also a fact. One another singers have continued the practice of the Synagogue, the example of Jesus, the direct command of Paul and the 2,000 year acknowledged principle that worship is directed to God and not to the performers who are always added to attract a crowd. There is no "music" term associated with the Bible except in secular parties and the end-time harlot church. Music to the Greek meant singing and dancing with or without instruments.
However, instrumentalists claim authority to make new laws up out of silence and financial expediency. They say, in many of the reviewed articls, that one who will not worship with instruments are Pharisees, hypocrites, sectarians, heretics and sowers of discord. That constitutes judging.
Next, by cranking up the 50 horsepower pipe organ they make a law: if you meet with us you will worship with instruments. If you leave, we will use psychological violence against you and accuse you of what we did. This will teach those grown Biblically illiterate from sermonizing and versifying not to imitate you or we will "get 'em also."
Finally, they do something they know is not necessary for them or others to worship. They force this on the heads of people who cannot worship when the machine blots out the voice from your wife sitting next to you. They, therefore, violate Paul's direct laws of Romans 15. They further violate the direct commandment to "speak" the revealed Word "with one voice." Now, sure enough, musical sectarians can truly say:
Paul didn't say: "Thous shalt not use the voice of lifeless instruments and trumpets."
This "law of silence" is used by musical dividers as a true LAW.
Paul didn't say, "sing and make melody with or without an instrument." Paul said to "teach" or preach to one another or "to ourselves" (in our heart). Therefore, the operative word is not sing or worship but teach or preach.
The "law of silence" absolutely fabricates out of thin air and all ancient pagan religions that God is controlled or appeased by singing praise songs and making a great noise.
Now, Ray has said that he cares not for anything not included in the record of Christ and the apostles.
However, if you are going to make up the false LAW that non-instrumentalists introduced the LAW OF SILENCE and that is not the truth then we are found to be false witnesses and false accusers and haters and despisers of those we verbally abuse while ignoring all of the history.
For those who are willing to look at the evidence, if we can find one person before Daniel Sommers who used this law and the resulting Guilt Clause then you can disregard all of the false witnesses of the world.
John Calvin is a good place to begin because he informed men like Thomas and Alexander Campbell to reject instruments based on the Bible, and he knew that Scripture has to be the basis of agreement. Because he was hit with the "guilt clause" he understood that being blamed for other's sins is a malady of humanity. I kid my wife for hiding things which are always found just where I put them. That's the original sin of Adam.

I, for my part, deny not that when impiety reigned, her kingdom was disturbed by us. [by leaving and teaching against additions which included instrumental music in worship]But if, at the moment when the light of sound and pious doctrine beamed upon the world, all, as in duty bound, had spontaneously, and with ready mind, lent their aid, there would at the present day be no less peace and quietness in all the churches, (the kingdom of Christ flourishing), than in the days when Antichrist tyrannized.
> Let those who, it is manifest, impede the course of truth, desist from waging war with Christ, and there will instantly be perfect concord;
> or let them desist from throwing upon us the blame of dissensions, which they themselves excite.
Separate a ray from the body of the sun, the unity of the light is not divided. Break a branch from a tree, that which is broken cannot germinate. Cut off a stream from the fountain, and it dries up. So, also, the church of God, irradiated with light, sends its beams over the whole world. Still it is one light which is everywhere diffused. The unity of the body is not violated" (Cyprian, De Unitat. Ecclesi.).
Heresies and schisms, therefore, arise when a return is not made to the origin of truth,
when neither the Head is regarded,
nor the doctrine of the heavenly Master preserved.
Let them then show us a hierarchy in which the bishops are distinguished, but not for refusing to be subject to Christ, in which they depend upon him as the only head, and act solely with reference to him,
> in which they cultivate brotherly fellowship with each other,
> bound together by no other tie than his truth;
> > then, indeed, I will confess that there is no anathema too strong for those who do not regard them with reverence, and yield them the fullest obedience.
But is there anything like this in that false mask of hierarchy on which they plume themselves?
The Roman pontiff alone as Christ's vicar is in the ascendant, and domineers without law and without measure, after the manner of a tyrant, nay, with more abandoned effrontery than any tyrant.
The rest of the body is framed more according to his standard than that of Christ. The light of which Cyprian speaks is extinguished, the copious fountain cut off;
in short, the only thing exhibited is the tallness of the tree, but a tree dissevered from its root.
Let us now attend to the only remedy left us by those who think it impiety to move a finger, how great soever the evils by which the church is oppressed. They put us off to a universal council.
What? If the major part, from obstinacy, rush upon their own destruction, must we therefore perish along with them,
when we have the means of consulting for our own safety?
But they tell us it is unlawful to violate the unity of the church,
and that unity is violated if any party decide an article of faith by themselves, without calling in the others. [They invented the law all by themselves]
Then they enlarge on the inconveniences to which such a course might lead &endash; that nothing could be expected but fearful devastation and chaotic confusion, were each people and nation to adopt for itself its peculiar form of faith.
Things like these might be said justly, and even appositely to the occasion, if any one member of the church, in contempt of unity, should of its own accord separate itself from the others. But that is not the point now in dispute.
> Calvin denied that people are obligated to remain with an institution which they do not believe fulfills the obligations imposed by Christ.

> Instrumental music added according to Catholics from paganism (Candles, Catholic Encyclopedia) was a primary reason for the Protest Reformation because it agreed with the Catholics that it was pagan.

Now, we know that sectarian anti-sectarians hate John Locke because he defined, like Paul and Thomas Campbell, how people with different personally-held opinions can assembly together for edification by removing anything from the collective assembly which sows discord because it does not have Biblical authority. This must meet the tests of Paul's Roman 14 discussion of sects and His Roman's 15 definition of speaking the revealed Word of God to provide unity among Vegetarian, musical Orpheus experience and the Meat-Wine, musical Dionysus experience.
It simply will not work to follow the very young and totally unique new theology which says:
If God has not absolutely outlawed it then we can do it even if it does sow discord.
John Locke begins:
Schism
Let us now consider schism, which is a crime near akin to it; for both these words seem unto me to signify an ill-grounded separation in ecclesiastical communionmade about things not necessary. But since use, which is the supreme law in matter of language, has determined thatheresy relates to errors in faith, andSchism, then, for the same reasons that have already been alleged,
schism to those in worship or discipline, we must consider them under that distinction.is nothing else but a separation made in the communion of the Churchupon account of something in divine worship or ecclesiastical disciplineNow, nothing in worship or discipline can be necessary to Christian communion (unity)
that isnotany necessary part of it.but what Christ our legislator, or the Apostles by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, have commanded in express words.Again we say, anyone can do what they wish, but the eternal principle is based on the Word of the Incarnate God of the Universe because that is what He claimed (John 6:63)
Those who added instruments just because "God didn't say, 'thou shalt not'" admit that they are adding something which is not commanded and not necessary for worship.
Therefore, adding the instruments makes one the sectarian.
If modern instrumentalists believe that they cannot worship without instruments, and they have direct Biblical authority for instruments then they have the right, as Alfred T. DeGroote claims, to be the one true church. And then churches of Christ who have no Biblical authority for "one another" singing but left just to be evil, could be branded as sectarians.
This is not based on anything but DeGrootes claim to the "high church" right of Catholics to change the rules with the change in times.
Locke didn't say that you are a sinner if you hold some different opinion. However, he along with Paul's "singing" passages (Romans 15; Eph 5; Col 3) and also Thomas Campbell say that you simply cannot have fellowship with people if you insist on forcing them to do something which doe not have clear Biblical authority which they cannot practice. Paul truly meant that we can "all speak the same things" if we have dialog by speaking what Jesus said and would say if present. Instrumentalists and non-instrumentalists violate that direct command and condition of unity and show contempt for the Words of Christ (Spirit) by substituting the words of Fanny Crosby or Twila Paris. Based on the ancient Hittite and other's view that a hymn after the composer's death became almost an idol simply because they gave attention to the composer and not to the Word of Christ it is asked: "Are Hymns Idols?"
Locke continues:
In a word,
he that denies not anything that the Holy Scriptures teach in express words,
nor makes a separation upon occasion of anything that is not manifestly contained in the sacred text- however he may be nicknamed by any sect of Christians and declared by some or all of them to be utterly void of true Christianity-
yet in deed and in truth this man cannot be either a heretic or schismatic.
I cannot wrestle it to the ground, but apparently after the division had been created by adding instruments, someone invented the notion:
That NOT using instruments is not expressly stated as a thus saith the Lord. God didn't have Scripture declare a legalism: "Thou shalt not use mechanical instruments for worship."
The musical group introduced instruments without authority and knowing that it would sow discord. They just did it for financial advantage according to their own confession. One reason was based on "what was good enough for Mars was good enough for Jehovah." However, after the fellowship was already fractured people tend to look backward to justify the condition and invented the guilt-shifting clause that:
If everyone didn't remain in place and participate in what they believed was sinful, and they continued to meet without instruments, they were suddenly guilty of creating a non-instrumental sect.
One becomes a sectarian by the first introduction of instruments which fractured the fellowship as much from distrust of the commercial motives as from the unbiblical motives.
Arguing against a non-Biblical view does not make one a legalist except among the very immature.
This is the way congregational singers without defending any hypocritical Pharisee out there who agrees:One another singing of the inspired Biblical text is contained in express words. Furthermore, in Romans 14-15 Paul gave this as the only way not to judge or despise different opinions. Churches of Christ did not separate based on something not manifestly contained in sacred text.
> Instrumental worship is not given in express words, approved examples or necessary inferences.
> Instrumental music was included though not necessary for acceptable worship or manifestly contained in the sacred text.
> The instant the instruments were added there was a defacto separation made. It was made knowing that it would sow discord, made without pretense of Biblical authority or even depending on "the law of silence," made knowing that it would "offend many of these little ones" and without any need to worship correctly.
> Therefore, after there was already a musical sect created the instant instruments were forced in over the conscience of other. Division was as complete as it could every be. That exists now in several churches where "musical worship teams" have been added under the pretense of leading the worshipers into the presence of God therefore declaring them to be "mediators between man and God." It is highly unlikely that one can add a "musical worship team" without creating two or more sects in the same building.
> When the one another singers then choose to meet in the city hall they have not separated nor have they formed a sect.
By analogy:
> A wife brings a new "husband" into the bed.
> The marriage is automatically adulterated.
> The divorce certificate is simply to satisfy the tax collectors. Leaving does not break the unity.
In a very recent incarnation, a dominant pastor and his "little lamb elders" made that forced introduction not based on any expressed statement of Scripture nor was the instrument necessary for them to worship and then they said to the congregational singers:
This is now our church. We have introduced instruments. You will continue to attend and violate your Bible-based conscience and be a hypocrite or,
You will get out and quit sowing discord.
Writing on: "Mark them who cause Divisions.""THE Pope and his angels preached from this text half a century, while Luther, Zwingli, Melancthon, &c. were exposing the filthiness of the Mother of Harlots.
As Luther gave the Pope no quarters, he wreaked his vengeance on the Reformers,
denouncing them as heretics, schismatics, sowers of discord among brethren, haughty, self-willed, and contumacious dignitaries.
"He learned that lesson from his predecessors, who denounced the Messiah and his Apostles by similar arguments. Jesus was not a good man, for he made divisions among the people; and the Apostles were heresiarchs, for they turned the world upside down.
[Note: Elijah and the Word of God fought against the musical prophets of Jezebel. Jesus equated John to Elijah and the Jewish clergy was identified as children piping to try to force Him to sing and Dance while John had a demon. Luke 7]
"Elijah, too, was a disturber of the peace of Israel; and Daniel greatly marred the harmony of the devout fraternity who paid court to Nebuchadnezar.
In short, from the time that Moses caused divisions in the kingdom of Pharaoh, down to the last Dover Association, this text,
"Mark and avoid them that cause divisions," has never been unseasonable amongst the opponents of reform and of change; for as there can be no reformation without change--and as all who preach reformation preach a change,
the consequence must be, that those who will not change, must, to justify themselves, denounce the reformers; and no text does better than this--"Mark them who cause divisions, and avoid them." EDITOR.
[The Millennial Harbinger (December 1832): 604.]
In this case, they were denouncing instrumental music among other things.
Nor does God permit us to drive some of the brethren from the churchto avoid doing what they believe to be sinful.
To do so is to cause division in a way that God condemns.
and if we thus sin, he demands that we be marked and avoided as schismatics.
So it matters not how the effort may result, it condemns us in the sight of God. If the brethren submit and debauch their conscience by doing that which they believe to be wrong, we sin against them and against Christ, says Paul. (1 Cor. 8: 12.)
If we drive them from the church which they have to leave to avoid condemning themselves in this way,
we are guilty of the sin of causing division,
It will not do to say that this is a matter of expediency, and one, therefore, on which God has left us free.
Things of expediency on which God has left us free to act by majorities must be considered as such by both parties.
If one party believe it sinful, it may not be forced on them as a matter of expediency.
Nor will it do to plead conscience on the part of those who favor the organ as well as on the part of those who oppose it. There can be no such ground for conscience, unless
it is considered as divinely required so that
they cannot worship without it without feeling that they sin against Cod.
But the use of the organ is not urged on that ground. Hence there is no ground for the advocacy of conscience in the case.
In a case like this, where alienation and division are involved, conscience can require us to persist only when the issue is something that the word of God absolutely requires us to do;
but it is not held that God requires us to use an organ in the worship; it is only held that he permits it, and we have seen plainly that he permits nothing of this nature when such consequences result.
These good brethren fail to see that they apply the word "conscience" alike to two very different classes of things. If A conscientiously believes that, on the ground of expediency, the use of the organ will result in harm, and B, on the same ground, conscientiously believes that it will result in good, the conscience of one is just equal to that of the other;
If A believes that the use of the organ in the worship is divinely prohibited, so that he sins in its use,
and B believes that it is divinely required, so that he sins if he worships without it the conscience of one is just equal to that of the other.
But when A believes that it is divinely forbidden
and B simply holds that it would be for the best, as a matter of expediency,
there is the breadth of the heavens between the two.
B must believe that it is divinely required as an item of the faith, and hence a sin to dispense with it, before his conscience in the matter is of the same nature as that of A, and equal to it, who believes that God has forbidden it and that to use it is a sin.
A Common Love - From the Presbyterians
From the Watchman And Observer, Richmond VA February 22, 1849, Volume IV, No. 28.
"It has always been common among the advocates of this Popish mode of worship, to meet the objections of simple minded Protestants to the organ,
with the retort that their scruples were the relics of fanatical prejudice, and rustic ignorance.
The resort to this species of reply appears the more ill-considered, when we remember that Dr. Girardeau is
> supporting the identical position held by all the early fathers,
> by all the Presbyterian reformers,
> by a Chalmers, a Mason, a Breckinridge, a Thornwell, and by a Spurgeon.
[And Robertson , Rev. Dr. KERR Jubilee 1894, ]
Why is not the position as respectable in our author as in all this noble galaxy of true Presbyterians? Will the innovators claim that all these great men are so inferior to themselves?
But my object is to vindicate the great body of the Protestant church, and the Fathers of Protestantism, from the charge of ill taste, rudeness and blind prejudice, in their opposition.
It is not strange that men, such as the present advocates of the organ in Presbyterian churches in America, should bring such a charge against such men; many of them educated amidst the richest specimens of the fine arts in the old world, their youth imbued with the spirit of a gorgeous and poetic age? R. L. Dabney who rejected Alexander Campbell
The word "music" is not associated with the religion of Jesus Christ. Rather, the "proof-text" for singing is, like the true Pharisees turned into traditionalism. This violates Paul's commands and shuts the Mouth of the Spirit of Christ and His Word:
"The scripture represents religious music as the vehicle of religious instruction, and imply the necessity of distinct articulation. "I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also, else when thou shall bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned, say Amen at they giving of thanks seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest:" lst Corinthians 14; 15 and 16.
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs" Col. 3:16. These passages fully sustain the assertion that religious music, to be scriptural, must contain intelligible articulate words, conveying some pious instruction or emotion.
But, Paul called them "lifeless instruments" or "carnal weapons."
It is a historical fact that no one ever introduced instruments and created sectarianism based on their convictions about the Word of God:
"It is always urged: " we must have an organ to keep pace with other churches in attracting a congregation, and in retaining the young and thoughtless."
"Has it come then to this, that the chaste spouse of Christ is reduced to borrow the meretricious adornment of the "scarlet whore," in order to catch the unholy admiration of the ungodly? Not thus did the Apostles devise to bring sinners to the church.
"They were taught to go after them, into the highways and hedges, with the wooings of mercy and love; to allure them by the beauty of holiness; to urge them by the terrors of the law.
Christ didn't send us into all the world to worship. Rather, there are good and honest souls in all of the world. They have not wounded their souls so that they cannot, like the Jews of Isaiah 6 and 29 and not spoken to by Jesus, hear the simple gospel message. By sending out "fishers of men" there was no concern for the "quality" of the fish but the purpose was to expose people to the idea that Christ is God who died for their sins rather than have them die for the "god's pleasure." If they accepted that fact then the evangelist must go on.
It is a fact that the scarlet whore is implicated in end-time instruments (Revelation 18) as she was the harp-playing prostitute king/queen of Tyre who "came equipped with musical instruments."
But when once she descends from the high vantage ground of intellectual, theological, and moral superiority, to chaffer [barter] for popularity by human devices, and doubtful arts, her prestige will be gone. Other churches are better adapted to win in that race, and will surely outrun her.
Hence when the advocates of innovation quote such words as those of the Psalmist,
"Praise the Lord with the harp," etc., these shallow reasoners are reminded that the same sort of plea would draw back human priests and bloody sacrifices into our Christian churches.
For these Psalms exclaim with the same emphasis, "Bind your sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar." George Girardeau same link as above.
It is a fact that musical worship teams consider themselves Levitical Musicians, priests and mediators between man and God. Is it sectarian to reject that?
ROBERT J. BRECKINRIDGE, D.D., Dec 1851. Lexington, Ky.
Persons who seek, openly or covertly, to undermine or to corrupt the faith or practice of our church, founded upon that grand principle, as, for example,
by the introduction of instrumental music into our churches, ought to be able to show much more than that such practices are indifferent.
They ought to be able to show that they are necessary; for, if they are only indifferent,
the positive, general, and long continued settlement of the sense, feelings, and faith of the church against them are reasons enough why offensive attempts should not be made to change the order of our worship,
merely to bring in things indifferent;
especially when thereby divisions, alienations, and strifes, and at last schism may be the result.
And, moreover, the needless change of the habits, manners, and ordinances of a people, or a church, is always attended with a risk of corruption, which nothing but necessity can justify.
And where it is a change from a simple and spiritual ordinance to a carnal and sensual one, the attempt is wicked.
And where, by the change, a people give up and set aside some of the most precious and distinctive peculiarities of their hereditary manners and history, and fall into a frivolous and contemptible imitation of the follies of those in all respects less enlightened than themselves, the whole affair is deplorable.
My third remark is, that the use, or refusal to use, instrumental music in God's stated public worship during that long midnight from the establishment of Popery to the Reformation
the various subdivisions of nominal Christians throughout the world, who were not subject to the Papacy, is perhaps as accurate a test as any other of the real condition of those sects; and whoever will inquire will see that whatever piety was in the world was mainly with those who disagreed with Rome on this subject.
My fifth remark is, that any change which has taken place since the Reformation, in any of the Protestant denominations, indicating a relapse towards Rome, in the use of instrumental music in God's public worship,
will be found to have been uniformly attended, in those denominations, by other changes injurious to their spiritual condition, which, though not very obvious at first, have worked themselves out disastrously in every case.
For myself, I have never ceased to testify against it, and to increase the directness and force of my protest, in proportion as I have seen the evil increase;
so that for many years I have refused even to be present, much less to preach in any Presbyterian church, where musical instruments were used - except they were silenced when I officiated.
In most cases, my brethren in the ministry have respected my conscientious scruples: in many others,
and some of them very painful cases, they have refused, and thus excluded me from their pulpits and some of them, in addition, have reviled me bitterly. In all this, and for years together, no man has stood fully with me.
Why would anyone form a sect knowing that it would bring on heartache and open hostility even from those who do not use instruments. There is some mystical lust to try to ascend or descend to God just as they did at Babylon.
While it is claimed that J. W. McGarvey did not "sect out" when instruments were added, this is false. He did continue to hold meetings where the organ was used but he did not endorse them or fellowship them any more than I would if the Pope asked me to preach in Saint Peters.
After having won the battle by teaching against instruments, J. W. McGarvey admitted that he lost the war by fellowshiping instrumental churches:
"In 1950 bro. J.P. Sewell, in a Harding College lecture, recalled the following advice, given to him by bro. McGarvey away back in 1902. It is advice preachers today might ponder.
"You are on the right road, and whatever you do,
don't let anybody persuade you
that you can successfully combat error by fellowshipping it and going along with it. I have tried it.
I believed at the start that was the only way to do it. I've never held membership in a congregation that uses instrumental music.
I have, however, accepted invitations to preach without distinction between churches that used it and churches that didn't. I've gone along with their papers and magazines and things of that sort.
During all these years I have taught the truth as the NT teaches it to every young preacher who has passed through the College of the Bible.
Yet, I do not know of more than six of those men who are preaching the truth today.
It won't work."
If our understanding of the musical worship as mind control is not true then the meaning of the Bible and the total secular and pagan history has no meaning. And one another worshipers (as opposed to audience) can never agree that instrumental of vocal performance singing has any spiritual meaning, "takes away the key to knowledge" and will always as it has always divide based on:
Adding things which have no expressed Biblical Authority (silence won't work) and
which is not absolutely mandatory for suitable worship to take place.
This may not be acceptable but it is the only way to keep from being the sectarian sowers of discord.
It is common to speak of an instrumental tradition or preference and a one another tradition or preference.
However, instrumentalists have no Divine Expression of God's Will which is required to keep from becoming the sectarian.
Nor, is their worship somehow invalid if they do not hear the instrumental sounds (noises in the O.T.)
Therefore, those who added non-essentials with no Divine mandate sowed the discord and were the Sectarians.
The Law of Silence says: "I can do anything God has not given a direct command not to do." However, it is like the "tradition" of the Pharisees which was adding new laws in order to get around God's laws.
One another singers may or not be Pharisees, hypocrites, racists, Zealots, fratricides or baby killers. However, these have no connection to their not using instruments. Or should we brand a huge Z on the foreheads of non-Instrumentalists.
This sign, found posted at the latest Asherah Pole Festival is made up of actual charges against non-instrumentalists in the payroll of non-instrumentalists grinding down the non-instrumental position. Some liberties taken.

Warning: These people don't worship God with instruments. May be armed and dangerous. Marked to indicate that they may fire bomb restaurants or abortion clinics. They may also attack anyone wearing real fur. Special warning to instrumentalists: Bearer of this Mark may try to engage you in a discussion about the Bible not authorizing instrument. This proves that they may be neurotic or psychotic. Please do not flash your zither in their presence. If they try to sell you a new tradition about washing your hands when you come from the latrine to the Dining Hall please call your nearest Rabbi: May be Sectarian Accursed Pharisee (SAP) and dangerous to temple music with animal sacrifices.Penalty for removing this sign: Thirty Shekels of Silver.

What would motivate a group to remain outcast and despised and rejected even by its own clergy? Why not give up and add instruments and Sister Singers? It will surely increase the traffic. As we approach the end-times, if we understand the Tyre and Babylonian Lucifer connection and read Revelation 18 correctly, we should expect that the overwhelming majority will panic into music.Jingling, banging, and rattling accompanied heathen cults, and the frenzying shawms of a dozen ecstatic cries intoxicated the masses. Amid this euphoric farewell feast of a dying civilization, the voices of nonconformists were emerging from places of Jewish and early Christian worship ..." (Encyclopaedia Judaica, 1971 ed., s.v. "Music")
"Based on the concept of an organic pattern in the life course of civilization, a morphology of history: the idea that every culture has its period of youth, its period of culmination, its years then of beginning to totter with age and of striving to hold itself together by means of rational planning, projects, and organization, only finally to terminate in decrepitude, petrification... and no more life. Moreover, in this view of Spengler's, we were at present on the point of passing from what he called the period of Culture to Civilization, which is to say, from our periods of youthful, spontaneous, and wonderful creativity to those of
uncertainty and anxiety, contrived programs, and the beginning of the end." (Campbell, Joseph, Myths to Live By, p. 84)
"Yet there is a great religious fervor and ferment evident among not only young people but old and middle-aged as well. The fervor, however, is in a mystical direction, and the teachers who seem to be saying most to many are those who have come to us
from a world that was formerly regarded as having left altogether behind in the great press forward of modern civilization,
representing only archaic, out-lived manners of thinking. We have gurus galore..." (p. 88)
"Within the span of a decade the religion had become archaic; and it was then that the peyote cult, the mescal cult, came pouring in from Mexico (Aztec land), onto and across the plains, as a psychological rescue... they would gather in special lodges to pray, to chant, and to eat peyote buttons, each then experiencing visions, finding within themselves what had been lost from their society." (Joseph Campbell, p. 89)
What one may or may not do is one issue. However, a more fundamental issue is how we read Scripture for its spiritual value without trying to make it more attractive than it is or by making it into authority to do what is highly offensive to what LaGard Smith notes as the "majority" who do not try to worship with instruments.
We truly believe that there is a growing problem with instruments as denominations see the solemn old pipe organ abandoned in favor of extreme forms of "music" which is not worship. As the "women and children's" rule comes to an end, perhaps people will see that letting the "hoof" under the tent always means that there is a camel attached.
We worry that John Calvin, Alexander Campbell and others may be right:
"The consequence must be, that those who will not change, must, to justify themselves, denounce the reformers; and no text does better than this--"Mark them who cause divisions, and avoid them."
See another E-Mail Response to show that the "chief musician" translates a word which means OVERSEER. He drove everyone in ministering to the priests during the burning of the sacrifice and of the huge quantity of animal carcasses. He was slave driver to force the building of the Temple. The word translated "worship" really means meniel bondage.
His "musical" role was filled in every pagan temple in the world.
