In Douglas A  Foster's arena, Instrumental noise was a red flag among the Disciples of Christ - Christian Denomination in 1885 when those who had divided THAT sect when, in desperation, men decided that the Greek word "Psallo" actually commanded the use of Instruments with harsh judgement when they were able to add instruments into the historic Church of Christ.  The prophecy for the end time begins in Revelation 17 when the ancient Babylonian mother of harlots unleashed her "lusted after fruits" as here religious craftsmen. That included singers, instrument players.

Casual Bible Readers will understand that for God's Separated people:

1. There is never a Day of WORSHIP.
2. There is never any person who is said to WORSHIP by Rhetoric (selling Jesus), forced to listen, singing, playing an instrument, acting or anything similar to the effeminate pagans who, then and now, sold sex and salvation.
3. The Church as House excludes any hired hand to replace God the Father and elders to teach that which has been taught.
4. There is no FUNDING in the Assembly of Christ because the only role is exampled by Jesus who STOOD up to read the Prophets, applied it and SAT DOWN.

Worship beyond "falling on your face" in Reverence and Godly Fear became an issue when the Serpent or SERPO attached "Eve" as a singing and harp-playing prostitute.

There is no Scripture to FEED anyone said to "worship" by preaching, listening, singing, playing a harp, acting or PAY TO PLAY.

The Synagogue excluded "vocal or instrumental" rejoicing: it was called in a regular sense to READ and understand Civil and Religious laws. Both Jew and Gentile were "wise unto salvation" because they attended Synagogue to escape the superstitious Seventh Day paganism from which God gave REST.

John Calvin, grasped that the Word or Logos is God's Regulative Principle. Calvin agrees about the Synagogue or Church in the wildernesss.

The Synagogue and therefore the Church of Christ obeys and teaches and practices what Jesus Christ commanded in the Prophets and then the Apostles. A Disciple is a Student and does not go to a "worship operation" or a lying wonder.

Douglas A. Foster: Beyond Intellectual, formative, why is it important to consider instrumental music in worship. In my opinion instrumental music is significant but  it is a Third Level Topic: not something you would be talking about.

Douglas A. Foster makes a profession of despising the ignorant southern churches because they will NOT submit to the AGENDA and will not just, as stated by one agent, Just Shut Their mouths.  Because it is not important he has the right to promote and introduce musical machines into peaceable Churches of Christ, but those being '"infiltrated and diverted" are sowing discord as legalistic sectarians for protesting those inventing their own dogma to "steal the living of widows and honest workers." This is a ploy used down through history as psychologial violence to make people turn coward and not stay awake when the thieves break in and steal.

The Church of Christ can be found bearing that name in all perioda of history which understood that the object of the assembly was to Teach the Word of God. They claimed to be Apostolic which meant that a Christian group is bound to follow the teachings of Christ in the Prophets and Apostles. The Disciples of Christ which sponsors Foster's work reject Scripture as the only resource for faith and practice. That happens when A School of the Word (Christ and the Campbells) becomes a Makes Works Project for theologians who have no godly ROLE and certainly not DOLE because history denies that their is A Law of Giving to support them.

Douglas A. Foster: will discuss 1) What is worship anyway? The implication that worship is defined by a "whole lot of what went before in church history."  The implication which ignores the Bible and recorded history is that those who still RESIST others imposing Musical instruments as machines for doing hard work, has no Biblical bases but is based on the "heritage" or ignorant ancestors who resisted instruments in a fit of jealous rage over people building grand buildings and hiring hirelings at a huge price to perform as preachers and organists.

This Church of Christ was clearly defined after the Jacob-cursed and God-abandoned Levites rose up in PLAY at Mount Sinai.  Foster etal does not know that PLAY involved playing with musical instruments and playing with one another.  Thee connection between pagan religion and instrumental noise was feminine, effeminate or perverted.  Paul explains the musical fall from grace in Romans 10.

Douglas A. Foster: 2 What is Worship music?

The Command to the elders as the Pastor-Teachers is to teach that which has been taught.
Romans 15 excludes the musical performance as Areskos or Latin Placeo.  The group effort was to "use one mind and one mouth to speak that which is written for our learning."  A Church of Christ is a School of Christ in the Prophets and Apostles.

There is nothing in the Sacred Literature which is metrical: the Word or Spirit is breathed into Jesus as the Word and He SPOKE it "without measure" which is most often Without Meter. SPEAK excludes meter.

Melody as tunefulness belongs to the nineteenth century.
Simple harmony did not begin to be understood before about the year 1250 when the monks and idle composers began to fiddle around with the simple organs because they had ten fingers.

"Now, many a man from the false religions, which are not ashamed of criticising what is noble, will ask: how can there be a feast without carousing and overeating, without the pleasant company of hosts and guests, without quantities of unmixed wine, without richly set tables and highly stacked provisions of everything that pertains to a banquet, without pageantry and jokes,

bantering and merry-making to the accompaniment of flutes and citharas, the sound of drums and cymbals and other effeminate and frivolous music of every king,

enkindling unbridled lusts with the help of the sense of hearing. For in and through the same [pleasures] those persons openly seek their joy, for what true joy is their they do not know.

Women's singing was a vital part of all pagan worship. In very early times women became priestly singers of the gods in the temple.

Douglas A. Foster:  3 Instrumental / none instrumental music in worship

Again, a musical instrument is a "machine for doing hard work mostly in MAKING WAR and in creating the shock and awe required to fleece the pagan men before they could get past the prophetesses or prostitutes. Abaddon or Apollyon is the LEADER of the MUSES as his worship team. They were known to be dirty adulteresses and that is why in Revelation 18 John the religious performers "lusted after fruits", says that they were sorcerers and WILL BE Cast alive into the lake of fire.  No disciple of the Bible could boast about diverting other people's property and be ignorant of the Genesit-to-Revelation mark of Scribes and Pharisees Jesus called hypocrites and quoting Ezekiel 33 names self-speakers, singers and instrument players.  We have no reason that having been UNLEASHED form the smokey pit that appealing to Scripture is anything other than always perverting each and every mention of an instrument. The Spirit OF Christ identified Lucifer (ZOE, Venus) as the singing and harp playing prostitute beginning in the garden of Eden. That is exactly what he-she-it said.  We know that it is NOT AN ISSUE among those who make it an issue use the office of "doctor of the law" to exert influence.  However, Jesus warned the rest of us that Doctors of the Law (speakers, singers, players) TAKE AWAY THE KEY TO KNOWLEDGE.

Foster and his followers are going to say that churches of Christ are IGNORANT of church history and refuse to follow along with their PATTERN: they just stick with Rick Atchley's claim that the Bible was a preliminary sketch and HE and his band hear spirits tell them what Jesus WOULD have taught if JESUS had the benefit of traditionalism of Church Councils.:

They mean that YOU are suppose to worship or give all of your attention on the Senior Pastor.   However, because it is intended to harm godly people we can say that the direct commands from Genesis to Revelation is just OUR INTERPRETATION and is TRADITIONALISM invented by ignorant people is what we call TELLING A LIE.  John says that Sorcerers (actors, musicians), Dogs (Catamites as emasculated priests of the mother goddess) and Liars will have their place in the Lake of Fire.

1. Spiritually Historical Inststument

Early Church

The early church was quite ignorant, says Foster, about the Prophets they had listened to from their youth.  They didn't know that the sacrificial system had been dead since the Return and we have no evidence of WORSHIP in inside of the Temple in the New Teatament.  Paul said that Timothy was wise unto salvation and he grew up on the prophets.  At the Jerusalem conference the Gentiles knew perfectly well the teachings of the synagogue which they attended to escape the pagan rituals including music.

They had never been IN the temple and watched the loud instrumental noise which God had quarantined behiind city gates.

If they were around the marketplace they would know why Jesus consigned the pipers, singers and dancers there.

The long prayers by the hireling Pharisees were called HYMNS: Jesus called them hypocrites.

Two reasons:
The Christians (ignorant of the Word) had to distinguish themselves from Jewish worship with instrumental music (not so).   At end of first century synagogues were expelling Christians

The Synagogue was a School of the Word: it had no singing or playing of instruments: they PREACHED the Word (only) by READING the Word.   They did not meet with the Jews on the Sabbath but used the buildings on the First Day of the Week.

All literate Jews knew that God had abandoned the Jews because of musical idolatry: Stephen preached the sermon which informed the Jews but NOT the modern theologians that:

God promised David a Tent at a Jebusite High place on Zion
But, Solomon built God a HOUSE on Moriah where God had already provided the sacrifice to Abraham.
BUT, God does not dwell in houses built by human hands neither is he worshipped by human hands: pointing, snapping, waving, clapping or picking a harp.

"Before the establishment of the kingdom under Saul, it was the women who, as in every young civilization, played a major part in the performance of music. Such figures as Miriam, Deborah, Jephthah's daughter, and the women hailing the young hero David have become almost archetypes of female musicians.

"Characteristic of all these cases is the familiar picture of a female chorus, dancing and singing, accompanied by frenzied drum-beating.

to old Canaanite families whose designations, such as Hemen the Ezrahite (I Chron. 2:6),
became a part of later Hebrew family names." (Unger, Merril, Archaeology and the Old Testament, Zondervan, P. 216-7)

Douglas A. Foster:  as the Church began to be less Jewish needed to distinguish from the instruments IN the Temple

The false implication is that the Jewish Church USED instruments but pouted and decided to do something DIFFERENT from the Jews and worship WITHOUT instruments. Some of Foster's band insists that evil people FORCED the church to stop using instruments in "worship."

The early church assembled in Solomon's Porch in order to teach the collected masses. The people came for commerce and not much ceremony.  Based on the Law of Moses the common people, including Jesus, must be OUTSIDE of the gates during the slaughter of innocent animals.  They observed the Apostle's doctrine, breaking of bread and fellowship. They did what the godly people did in the Synagogues QUARANTINED from the Temple sacrifices.

From the wilderness onward (earlier say Jews) the godly Jews assembled in the Synagogue for hundreds of years before the time of Jesus.  Only the evil people needed a LAW which "excluded vocal and instrumental rejoicing" because claiming to come into the presence of a Holy Spirit God would never allow godly people to do anything but bow in silence as the Word was read: that is what Paul ocmmanded form men and women.

Anyone who took an instrument INTO the temple where the Holy Place was a physical type of the Church was to be EXECUTED.  The Temple had been confiscated by HIRELINGS and the young men had deserted Jerusalem to keep from "wearing the hat of Hermes" and being male prostitutes in the Temple.

Douglas A. Foster: Justin Martyr early 2nd simply singing is agreeable, lifeless instruments.  In this is REMOVED from  the worship of the Church.

Foster wants you to think that lifeless instruments were IN the worship of the church but was REMOVED. Again, instruments were REMOVED because the Christians were just ANTI-SEMITES:   They be childrn, we be adult

THEODORET " Theodoret of Cyrus or Cyrrhus  c. 393 – c. 457) 107 . Question: If songs were invented by unbelievers to seduce men, but were allowed to those under the law on account of their childish state, why do those who have received the perfect teaching of grace in their churches still use songs, just like the children under the law?

Answer: It is not simple singing that belongs to the childish state, but singing with lifeless instruments, with dancing, and with clappers. Hence the use of such instruments and the others that belong to the childish state is excluded from the singing in the churches, and simple singing is left." Justin Martyr to Trypho the Jew: Chapter XVIII.-Christians Would Observe the Law, If They Did Not Know Why It Was Instituted.

"For since you have read, O Trypho, as you yourself admitted, the doctrines taught by our Saviour, I do not think that I have done foolishly in adding some short utterances of His to the prophetic statements.

Wash therefore, and be now clean, and put away iniquity from your souls,

as God bids you be washed in this laver,

and be circumcised with the true circumcision.

For we too would observe the fleshly circumcision, and the Sabbaths, and in short all the feasts, if we did not know for what reason they were enjoined you,-namely, on account of your transgressions and the hardness of your hearts. For if we patiently endure all things contrived against us by wicked men and demons, so that even amid cruelties unutterable, death and torments, we pray for mercy to those who inflict such things upon us, and do not wish to give the least retort to any one, even as the new Lawgiver commanded us: how is it, Trypho, that we would not observe those rites which do not harm us,-I speak of fleshly circumcision, and Sabbaths, and feasts?

And again by Jeremiah: "Collect your flesh, and sacrifices, and eat: for concerning neither sacrifices nor libations did I command your fathers in the day in which I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt.' 55

Douglas A. Foster:   Chrysostom David had a Lyre, lifeless strings: the church has a lyre of living strings. much more in accordance with piety.  Made sharp distinction. 

Again, Foster does not read real history: he says that David played the harp but WE BE MORE PIOUS and therefore THAT is the reason we do not use musical instruments in the worship of the Church

John Chrysostom Homilies Acts Chapter Seven: Stephen against the Law, Temple and Sacrifices.

What wonder that ye know not Christ, seeing ye knew not Moses, and God Who was manifested by such wonders?
        But they not only knew Him not:
        they also insulted in another way, by their idol making.
        "Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven" (v. 42.)

Hence these same "customs" date their origin, hence the sacrifices:
        they were themselves the first that made sacrifices to their idols!
        For that is why it is marked,

Editor's Note 7: dia gar touto epishmainetai. The meaning is: Stephen was accused of speaking against "the customs,"-sacrifices, temple, feasts, etc. Therefore he significantly points to that critical conjuncture. from which these "customs" date their introduction: namely, the Provocation at Horeb.

Prior to that, he tells of "living oracles," life-giving precepts:
after it , and as its consequence, sacrifices, etc.
those statutes which were not good, and ordinances by which a man shall not live, as God says by Ezekiel.

Not a word of sacrifice till then: and the first mention is, of the sacrifices offered to the calf. In like manner, "they rejoiced," "the people ate and drank, and rose up to play:" and in consequence of this, the feasts were prescribed: kai eufrainonto, fhsin: dia touto kai eortai.-'Epishmainetai might be rendered, "he marks," "puts a mark upon it" (so the innovator, who substitutes, touto kai Dauid epishmainomenoj legei): we take it passively, "there is a mark set over it-it is emphatically denoted." In the active, the verb taken intransitively means "to betoken or announce itself," "make its first appearance."-

In the Treatise adv. Judaeos, iv. §6. tom. i. 624. C. St. Chrysostom gives this account of the legal sacrifices: "To what purpose unto Me is the multitude of your sacrifices? etc. (Isaiah i., 11, ff.)

Do ye hear how it is most plainly declared, that God did not from the first require these at your hands? Had He required them, He would have obliged those famous saints who were before the Law to observe this practice.

`Then wherefore has He permitted it now?  In condescension to your infirmity. As a physician in his treatment of a delirious patient, etc.:  thus did God likewise. For seeing them so frantic in their lust for sacrifices, that they were ready, unless they got them, to desert to idols: nay not only ready,  but that they had already deserted, thereupon He permitted sacrifices. And that this is the reason, is clear from the order of events.

After the feast which they made to the demons, then it was that He permitted sacrifices: all but saying: `Ye are mad, and will needs sacrifice: well then, at any rate sacrifice to Me. 0'"-(What follows may serve to illustrate the brief remark a little further on, Kai h aixmalwsia kathgoria thj kakiaj.)  "But even this, He did not permit to continue to the end, but by a most wise method, withdrew them from it ...

For He did not permit it to be done in any place of the whole world,

but in Jerusalem only. Anon, when for a short time
they had sacrificed, he destroyed the city.

Had He openly said, Desist, they, such was their insane passion for sacrificing, would not readily have complied. But now perforce, the place being taken away, He secretly withdrew them from their frenzy."  So here: "Even the captivity impeaches the wickedness (which was the cause of the permission of sacrifice.")

Douglas A. Foster Summary:

Foster and the Wrecking Crew does not know and probably cannot know that both the Prophets and Apostles condemn specificially the use of instrumental "noise" and with the Greek literature calls it sorcery and the mark of perversion: musical ecstasy strokes all of the human senses and is a sexual-like climax says the Vineyard Lady and Plato and the Egyptians who called it a visual and oral orgasm.

Douglas A. Foster Will say that the church BEGAN to use instruments but to distance themselves from the Jews decided to be DIFFERENT.  He claims that Justin says instruments were REMOVED again as some kind of pity party. But, after about 600 the BEGAN AGAIN to use the organ for Worship.

2.  Instruments began to be use
        After distinguish from pagans mid 600  not for worship.

The early church called itself The Church of Christ and was marked by Poor Priests who were faithful to the Great Commission.  After Constantine unwashed pagans became bishops and not even SINGING in that eastern style was imposed in the year 373.  That markes the FIRST time that singing was imposed as an ACT. This was introduced from the East and to their credity the songs were pretty accurate Bible Stories.  Singing as RITUAL split the Eastern church from the Western Church.  Even then the chanter or precenter which McClintock says "was the first heresy largely pervading the Church" SPOKE a Cantillating style where the Jews had added accent marks to prevent anyone from changing words or inflections which would disrespect the Word.

When the Organs were added at large Cathedrals at large FAIR TOWNS  (like ACU WORKSHOPS marketing books and bodies), they did not accompany the Reader or Chanter and the congregation did NOT participate until after Calvin gave in and permitted some Psalms (only) to be set to a simple meter to be sung in UNISON (only).  That is how Luther rejects instruments and interprets Romans 15 which COMMANDS using one mind and one mouth to speak that which is written for our LEARNING.  Disciples are students and they go to Learning Centers and NOT to Worship Centers.

Start: How did this become A Red Flag Issue about being faithful.

I will try to unscramble Doglas A. Foster's rationale (?) about how the southern churches came to make using musical instruments in their "worship" a Red-Flag issue. Those not given to psychological violence would say that the red flag was raised when people began to force the organ (only we promise) into other people's property and accused those who resisted having their pockets picked with violating the direct law which commanded them to impose and with being Satanic.

We might alllert the readers to the fact that even before 1800 Nashville had become almost unique as a center for world-renound musical artist and opra.  A large number of people  owned and performed on the guitar, banjo, violin and all kinds of wind instruments.

Next, a small number of southerners were slave owners and most were craftsmen, land owners or renters of farm land.  Almonst none of the land was made unfit for farming and most people did not live in the battlefields. 

It was northern Alabama,  mostly women, who stopped the Stoneite witchcraft plan for converting people.  There probably were few of the iteneraant preachers who knew then or now as much about the mothers who instructed their children daily and could not be fooled.

Foster's idea is that they were Biblically and historically illiterate and did not know that instruments are "machines for doing hard work" and could grasp that the shisters used and use money to extract money from the poor. After the war, the people in the NORTH used their carpet bags to build grand churches and the Edifice Wars began. Many as told to J.W.McGarvey simply could not pay their bills unless theyr brought in high-paid musical performers.  This caused a jealousy breakdown in the South whose ONLY rationale against instruments was that they SHOULD have spend the money on the poor.

Therefore, in Fostereze, the South rejected instruments being imposed ONLY because of the wast of Money: they got an ANTI-instrument fixed in their brain so that when instruments were added most many years after the War pride kept them from bowing while others piped and INVENTED Biblical reasons for not turning School of Christ (the Campbell's restoration) into a Theater for Holy Entertainment. Foster wants you to believe that the ONLY reason for rejecting performance "worship" is some ungodly hatred of anyone who does anything.

30,000 Methodists in England, withdrawing from that church and connexion, because the Conference disapproved of the introduction of instrumental music to the churches. The full account shall appear in our next. To us, backwoods Americans, this conduct of those seceders appears be the extreme of folly, and it argues that they have a greater taste for music, than they have for religion. Editor." (Barton Stone, Christian Messenger, vol. 3, No. 2, Dec. 1828, p. 48 in bound volume)

It is a historical fact that when the instrumentalistc could not confiscate other people's property it was THEY who withdrew fellowship.  Now they will fellowship you and take your money but Foster would never let a Bible  student just read the flood of passages connecting instruments with a Satanic Attach.

It was unthinkable, as these men viewed the problem, that even the people in the South would not want to keep up with the times.

"Isaac Errett who influenced Campbell to sign over (extorted?) his copyright, had argued that i was absolutely necessary to the unity of the church to have unity of worship, and the latter could not be maintained unless the brethren all used one hymn book--Campbell's.

Accordingly, the Standard and the Society opposed vigorously the publication of any other hymn book. Lipscomb by selling a hymn book printed in Canada had been visited by some of the ire of these men." (West, p. 171)

Douglas A. Foster's vision of myriad of instrumental churches dancing in his head is not a reader of any history:

The organ party is yet small, and would amount to but little, had it not found way into a few places of note and prominence. There are still whole States that have not an organ in the Church.

We think there is not one in use in Canada, not one in Virginia, Tennessee, nor Texas, that we have heard of; scarcely any in Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and many other States. The organ is still the exception, not the rule; and the party is small. The main body are true to the great principles of reformation--to the divine purpose of returning to and maintaining, the original practice in all things.

Foster and all of his disciples parrot the idea that Moses Lard was the bad guy for opposing that which  was very rare.  None of the Disciple's preachers agreed with instruments in the beginning being consistent with faith and godliness. But the PLOT is that if anyone says anything against their infiltrating and diverting you make him a BAD PERSON.

Now that we as a people have agreed to accept the New Testament as that standard is a fact too notorious to admit of question. To this we have consented to bring the smallest point of doctrine, and the most trivial feature in practice. And furthermore, 

we have solemnly covenanted that whatever cannot be clearly shown to have the sanction of this standard shall be held as not doctrine, and shall not be practiced.

We say shown to have the sanction;  for it is not enough to warrant a practice that this standard does not sanction it. No practice can be defended on this ground.

To warrant the holding of a doctrine or practice it must be shown that it has the affirmative or positive sanction of this standard, and not merely that it is not condemned by it.

These are now its spirit and law, and of course, no offense to it. But despite of even these, for now we care nothing for strife, nothing for the feelings of the brethren, we shall insist on the right both for self and others to introduce each for himself the instrument with which he can best conduct his worship. 

For the son of Mars, then, we claim the right to introduce the fife and the drum; and for the self the right to introduce, for I could never make music on anything else, but am capital on these, the Jews-harp, the tin-pan, and the barrel-head.

The urge to resist the 'unity' ploy or friendly fellowship was, from the beginning, based on the demonstrated proof that those willing to sow massive discord intended not unity but confiscation. That is the fact in those few churches Foster and gang have managed to confiscate.

Foster pushes the idea that to DIVIDE over Instrumental Music as worship is wrong. We agree, then why does Foster work so hard in rewriting history to cause MORE division by making instrumental music a NECESSARY term of fellowship if you will not be forced out of your own property.
