The Sword of the Holy Spirit - the Mouth of the Teacher The Sword of the Holy Spirit is the mouth used by teachers who are filled with the Spirit or the Words of Christ. The Spirit of God is the Mind of Christ and this is transferred to the unbeliever by the evangelist wearing the defensive garments of Truth and speaking from the sword of his double-edged mouth. Paul did not say that the Holy Spirit swings the sword but commanded the evangelist: "You take the Sword."

For instance, while stating that there is no direct operation of the Holy Spirit, a common view is that "the Holy Spirit is the person who swings the sword or word." The logic is that a "soldier and his sword do the same thing but they are not the same thing." This is the result of proof-texting by not reading the rest of the story.
Because the "Sword" is a symbol of the spoken word, if the Holy Spirit swings the sword this is a claim that the present-day speaker is speaking by a direct operation of the Holy Spirit. We have not doubt that this is what many believe, teach and defend to the death. The Sword of the Spirit is the Word which we must take to make it an effective offensive sword.
The proof text shows that the sword of the Spirit has been prepared by God, the Spirit, and then given to us to swing. The Christian soldier must put on the defensive and offensive armor "as or like" a soldier. This preparation is to learn the truth which is to prepare by understanding the gospel of peace. Only then can the soldier go out on the battle field and wage an offensive war by preaching the gospel. The inward word flows out like breath (spirit) and one speaks the word of God through his double-edged sword or mouth.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Ephesians 6:10
(you) Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, (you) having put on the breastplate of righteousness, Ephesians 6:14
and (you) having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Ephesians 6:15
And (you v. 13) take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17
The Mind of Christ is the Holy Spirit of God
Paul said (1 Corinthians 2) that the Spirit of God is the mind of Christ. The mouth is made up of the lips and are therefore a figurative "double-edged sword" or mouth which speaks the words as the spirit or breath propels them. These are the warrior's weapons.
Peh (h6310) peh; from 6284; the mouth as the means of blowing, command, two-edged, wish, word.
The informed "spirit" of man uses his own "sword" or mouth to speak spirit words.
Isaiah wrote:
And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me; Isaiah 49:2
Now Isaiah did not have the literal sword, he was not a literal shaft of an arrow and he was not in a literal quiver. His meaning is that he is the mouth which speaks God's words through his double-edged swords or lips. He is God's "arrow" which flies through the air and delivers God's judgment as spirit or wind flung out into the world.
The Spirit, to us, is the Mind of Christ. This spirit and life is contained in Christ's words (John 6:63).
Christ's Mind indwells our mind
when we Hear Him in our heart.
The sharp sword is the mouth which confesses and teaches that word to cut, judge and discern.
Being Filled with the Spirit is to filled with the Word as the Mind of Christ
There are many parallel passages to show how this is done. For instance, Paul told the Colossians to be "filled" with the Words of Christ. In a parallel passage to the Ephesians he told them to fill up with Spirit. Then they would be able to teach one another with the Biblical text:
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, Ephesians 5:19
This does not mean, O foolish man, that the one with the most Bible knowledge is the one most filled with the Holy Spirit as a person. But then Paul is never speaks about the spirit as a member of the Godhead standing outside of God. He is speaking about the words of Christ which "are spirit and life" (John 6:63)
External melody carries the idea of abrading or panicking the enemy to create the fight or flight syndrome through injecting them with drugs--endorphins. One-man speaking (g2980) "means an extended or random harangue, by implication to bid, boast, put forth or give out" (From g3004).
However, the one another speaking would be to talk or utter in a new, Christ-like way. This would be to speak the word to one another because Paul said the church is perfectly competent to teach one another--
Laleo (g2980) lal-eh'-o; a prol. form of an otherwise obsol. verb; to talk, i.e. utter words: - preach, say, speak (after), talk, tell, utter. Comp. 3004.
That ye may with one mind (spirit) and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:6
I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and
competent to instruct one another. Romans 15:14
Jesus outlawed the rabbi or doctors of the law as authoritative teachers. Instead, He gave us His Word, free of charge (Isaiah 55:1). The lecture is the world's worst teaching method. And it is ineffective because it violates the command of Paul that even inspired prophets be audited by others within the church assembly. Not even the president of the United States is exempt from such auditing and correcting.
When the apostles asked Jesus why He spoke in parables He said that the mysteries of God had been hidden in parables from the foundation of the world. The reason, according to Isaiah 48, is so that mercenary men might not gain the secrets and sell them.
Paul also spoke in terms "hard to be understood" and which "unstable men pervert to their own destruction." He reminded the deaf and blind that the Word is not a literal sword. Rather, it is like a sword in that it is sharper. In reality, the sword is the mouth God uses to speak His words which are "spirit and life" (John 6:63).
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:13
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. Hebrews 4:14
The literate mind automatically understands that Christ did not speak His words as the Mind or Spirit of God just so we could attack and murder people by separating their spirit (mental disposition) from their soul or life. He did not say to go out and slice the "brethren's" flesh from their bones in great swelling Jubilees or other assemblies of the gods. This is figurative but a twelve-year-old Jesus could understand it.
The Nature of the Holy Spirit on Jesus
The Spirit which would rest upon Messiah was not a "little brother" or "family member" or "kin folks." Rather, because Spirit and Mind are almost interchangeable, the Spirit of God would be the Mind of God as the Spirit or the "mental disposition" of understanding:
The Spirit (h7307) of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2
And shall make him of quick understanding (h7306) in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: Isaiah 11:3
This seven-fold spirit is not a person separated from Christ. For instance, the "spirit of wisdom" is not a "spirit named wisdom." Rather, it is the mental disposition or quality of having a wise spirit or mind.
Jesus said it as clearly as it can be said:
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
The Sword of God is the Mouth of God through which He blows Spirit:
By the word of the LORD (Jehovah is I Am not We are) the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath (h7307 spirit) of his mouth (double-edged = means of blowing wind). Psalm 33:6
He gathered the waters of the sea as in a bottle; he put the deeps (as) in storehouses. Psalm 33:7
Let all the earth fear the LORD, let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! Psalm 33:8
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood forth. Psalm 33:9
This is figurative language. It shows that God's power has always been in His Word propelled from His double-edged sword, breathing (spirit) which acts upon natural elements. It does not mean, O blasphemous man, that Father-Word made a mess of creation and the Holy Spirit separated from God had to take control, put things in order and write laws to keep things from falling apart. The writer of the Odes of Solomon understood that the gospel was not a fermenting wineskin doctrine:
Blessed then are the ministers of that draught who are entrusted with that water of His: They have assuaged the dry lips, and they that had fainted they have raised up" Odes of Solomon 6:12-13
The reason the Words of Christ are Spirit and Life is because He is fully God. They interpret themselves if the doctors of the law do not pollute the stream with fermenting wine. Furthermore, the Word is the Sword of the Spirit which is the Door of His Light:
He hath filled me with words of truth; that I may speak the same Ode 12:1
and like the flow of waters flows truth from my mouth, and my lips show forth His fruit. Odes of Solomon 12:2
And He has caused His knowledge to abound in me, because the mouth of the Lord is the true Word, and the door of His light; Odes of Solomon 12:3
and the Most High hath given it to His words, which are the interpreters of His own beauty, and the repeaters of His praise, and confessors of His counsel, and the heralds of his thoughts, and the chasteners of His servants." Odes of Solomon 12: 4
This is what John meant when he personified the Word as being with God but also being God. By analogy, when people hear our words which we blow through our lips they understand that our words are not a person separated from me. My words and my self and my breath are intimately bound together but are still three modes of my communication. God had His Mouth, His Wisdom and His Word with Him but not as separate persons.
He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. Psalm 57:3
My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men Who are set on fire, Whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword. Psalm 57:4
Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets, I have slain them by the words of My mouth; And your judgments are like light that goes forth. Hosea 6:5
For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. Hosea 6:6
The prophets received the words to be used by their double-edged swords through their mouth which came as the Word Who was (is) God Who spoke through them. The following passages show (1) that Mind and Spirit are equivalent, and (2) that the Mind of Christ is the Spirit or Mind of the Lord or the Spirit of God:
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 1 Peter 1:11
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:11
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16
When the word flows out of the mouth it becomes a weapon which flies through the air to do its work:
He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. Revelation 1:16
One of those new wine in new wineskins festivals at the "city set on seven hills" will provoke the Lamb to turn into the Lion of Judah. He will come right there to the musical wine festival where the women are, spiritually speaking, stripped naked and right down there in the pit.
He will leave His clothes of righteousness and glory on. He will not sing and dance in exhilarating mental intoxication. He will slay the festive crowd with His words from His double-edged sword. His clothes will drip His blood which has been replaced with wine. He will tread underfoot the grapes of wrath. All of this results from the new wine festival with the naked musical worship teams dancing and prancing through the keynoter as the one who had his one hour of fame with the beast. This "idolatry of talent" says along with Job, Amos, Isaiah and God to Ezekiel that we do not believe that you are the Spirit God now replaced by Boles' younger relative so that this can be the Dispensation of the Holy Spirit:
And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. Revelation 19:9
And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10
He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. Revelation 19:13
Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. Revelation 19:15
And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. Revelation 19:21
This is Not the Age of the Holy Spirit
Every age is the age of the Holy Spirit Who is God Himself. The third member of the Godhead does not personally take the Word of God and teach it to the world. If the Words of Christ have no power without a direct operation of the Holy Spirit then this questions the teaching, power and authority of Christ in Whom Deity dwelled fully. It is in the interest of self-deluded "apostles" who claim superiority of their own writings over the Bible to keep up the false charge.
A later writer understood this perfectly:
Blessed then are the ministers of that draught who are entrusted with that water of His: They have assuaged the dry lips, and they that had fainted they have raised up" Odes of Solomon, Ode 6:12-13
He hath filled me with words of truth; that I may speak the same Ode 12:1
and like the flow of waters flows truth from my mouth, and my lips show forth His fruit. Odes of Solomon, Odes of Solomon, Ode 12:2
And He has caused His knowledge to abound in me, because the mouth of the Lord is the true Word, and the door of His light; Odes of Solomon, Ode 12:3
and the Most High hath given it to His words, which are the interpreters of His own beauty, and the repeaters of His praise, and confessors of His counsel, and the heralds of his thoughts, and the chasteners of His servants." Odes of Solomon, Ode 12: 4
When we wait for the Holy Spirit to swing the Sword of the Spirit we are in opposition to Christ Who demanded that we take the Sword of the Spirit and apply it in spiritual warfare.
