Here's a brief response to the issue of
the Spirit's identity. My time is very short, so this is
simply condensed from my book. Three questions:
1. What is the
relationship of the Spirit to God?
John 6:63 It
is the SPIRIT
that quickeneth;
the flesh
profiteth nothing:
the WORDS that I SPEAK
unto you,
they are , and
they are life.
No word in Greek, Latin or Hebrew translated as GHOST and
therefore SPIRIT is ever used to define a human or a god.
If Holy Spirit is a God it would be an insult to use the
article THE.
The PREPOSITION OF is almost always used of spirit
NEVER upper case to deity it.
The Spirit is the Mind or Mental disposition OF God
which He conveys as BREATH..
1Cor. 2:11
For what man knoweth the things of a man,
save the spirit OF man which is IN him?
even so the things OF God knoweth no man,
but the SPIRIT OF God.
The Spirit OF
the World is not a person but the mental disposition
of the World.
1Cor. 2:12 Now we have received,
not the spirit OF the WORLD,
but the SPIRIT WHICH
IS OF God;
THAT we
might KNOW the things
that are freely given to us of God.
SPIRIT is always connect to
knowledge of the WORD. The Pneuma-Logos bonded pair is
well documented.

the MIND of the Lord,
that he may instruct

But we have the MIND of Christ.
2Tim. 1:7 For God hath not given us
the SPIRIT OF fear;

The way to CONFESS Jesus is to speak the same Word, Logos

threefold pattern of divine relationality
permeates the New Testament.
There is a deep
recognition of the diversity and unity of God by
the New Testament writers,
and their language
about this relationality becomes the raw material
for what later
became an explicit doctrine of the trinity.
John wrote decades later to CORRECT the
many problems introduced by Greeks and in the SYNAGOGUE OF
THE JEWS. They Taught that Jesus was Jehovah in the flesh as
a way to REMOVE the role of the human Jesus of Nazareth as
Messiah
Jesus in His office of Paraclete or Holy Spirit
Comforter gave APT elders as the Pastor-Teachers commanded
to teach that which has been taught.
Paul excludes speakers, singers or instruments as the mark
of those LYING IN WAIT TO DECEIVE

The first men to use the TRIAD
word refuted the mixture of Judaism and Greek myths.
The triad nature is that WHICH EXISTS IN THE ONE GOD THE
FATHER. Jesus made it clear that He manifested Father,
Son and Spirit:
Theophilus to Autolycus the meaning of
TRIAS
For he that is created is
also needy;
but he that is
uncreated stands in need of nothing.
God, then, having
His own WORD INTERNAL within His own bowels,
begat Him, EMMITING [My heart hath breathed
forth a glorious Word."]
Him
along with His own WISDOM
before all things.
HE had this WORD as a HELPER
in the things that were created by Him,
and by Him He made
all things.
He is called
"governing principle" [logos], because He
rules,
and is Lord of all things
fashioned by Him.
HE, then, being Spirit
of God, and GOVERNING principle, and WISDOM
[Sophia], and POWER of the highest,
came down upon the
prophets,
and through them
spoke of the creation of the world and of all
other things.
For the prophets were not when the world came
into existence,
but the WISDOM
of God which was IN HIM
and His HOLY
WORD which was always present with Him.
Wherefore He speaks thus by the
prophet Solomon:
"When He prepared
the heavens I [WISDOM] was there,
and when He
appointed the foundations of the earth
was by Him as one brought
up with Him."20

Leonard Allen Spirit Poured out. This
threefold pattern can be seen clearly from two sets of
texts: several that are explicitly trinitarian, and
many more focusing on “salvation in Christ” that are less
explicit but with a clear trinitarian pattern.
Here are five of the
most explicit texts:
1 Corinthians 12:4–6;
GOD
is Theos or the Lord (YHWH) God
(Elohim): that word is exclusive of any other
position.
GOD is always separate from Lord or Christ.
When the word God appears it is an inclusive and
exclusive word and any other actor cannot be God. The
Spirit of God is the BREATH of God always connected with
WORDS.

Jesus became the
First Begotten as the first or Head of the church when
He was resurrected, transfigured, Ascended to heaven
with the "blood" and returned at Pentecost and "Poured
out what you see and hear--breath and fire.
Rev. 1:5 And from Jesus
Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the FIRST
BEGOTTEN OF THE DEAD
and the
prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved
us, and washed [baptized]us from our sins in his own
blood,
Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is
death;
but the GIFT OF
God [Theos]
is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus SPOKE what God's SPIRIT
breathed or Put in His Mouth. Jesus identified those NOT
OF THE WORLD as Speaking only what He commanded them to
speaks.
John 6:62 What and if ye
shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
John 6:63 It is the SPIRIT
that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:
the WORDS that I speak unto
you, they are spirit, and they are life.
THE GLORIFIED
JESUS IN HIS GLORIFIED STATE WOULD GUIDE THE APOSTLES
INTO ALL TRUTH. THEREFORE.
Matt. 10:27 What I TELL you in

1. OF is a preposition and the Spirit OF God is
God's own Spirit?
2. The Context shows that the gifts were bestowed solely by
God.
1Cor. 12:28 And GOD
HATH SET some in the church, first apostles,
secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that
miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments,
diversities of tongues.
1Cor. 2:10 But God hath REVEALED them unto us BY HIS
SPIRIT:
Notice that Paul defines the
meaning of the Spirit OF God:
1Cor. 2:11
For what man knoweth the things of a MAN,
save the SPIRIT
OF man which is IN him?
even so the things of God knoweth no man,
but the Spirit
OF God.
1Cor. 2:12 Now we have received,
not the spirit OF
the world,
but the spirit WHICH
is of God;

1Cor. 2:16 For who hath known the MIND of the Lord,

instruct him? But we have the MIND of Christ.
Peter who spoke of the Gift of the Holy Spirit says
that BAPTISM SAVES because we ASK for or
REQUEST A good conscience or conscience
meaning a Co-perception of the Word.
Heb. 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the
firstborn,
which are written
in heaven,
and to God the
Judge of all,
and to the SPIRITS
of just men MADE PERFECT.
and that no man can say
that
JESUS is
the LORD, [Theos) but by
the HOLY SPIRIT
If
you say that Jesus was God or A God then He cannot be
the LORD or CHRIST.
John 10:32 Jesus answered
them,
Many good works have
I shewed you from my Father;
for which of those
works do ye stone me?
John 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying,
For a good work we
stone thee not; but for blasphemy;
and because that
thou, being a man, makest
thyself God.
John 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath SANCTIFIED,

Corinthians 13:14;
As the Inspired writers were writing their PARTS for our
MEMORY "the Holy Spirit" never appears in the Salutations to
the established churches. Jesus of Nazareth assumed
the role as SPIRIT Mediator.
2Cor. 1:1 Paul, an apostle
of Jesus Christ by the will of GOD,
and Timothy our
brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth,
with all the saints which are in all Achaia:
2Cor. 1:2 Grace be to you and peace
from God our Father,
and from the
Lord Jesus Christ.
2Cor. 1:3 Blessed be God,
even the
Father OF
our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all
comfort
Jesus called the clergy BLASPHEMERS
for saying that he claimed the role of God when Jesus
claimed the power to be BY God the father AND He always
denied that He was God (theos) by saying that He was the
Son of God. Jesus became both Lord and Christ 30
years after he was born of FLESH in Mary.
2Cor. 13:13 All the saints salute you.
2Cor. 13:14
The GRACE of
the LORD [Kurios] Jesus Christ,
and the LOVE
of GOD, [Theos]
and the COMMUNION
[koinōn-ia] of the Holy Ghost, be with
you all. Amen.
The Spirit OF God
is His "breath" which conveys His MENTAL DISPOSITION
through Jesus to mankind as the ONLY MEDIATOR
This sounds like a typical doxology. If God is a
trinity of three persons each with their own center of
consciousness (Hicks) then why would Paul mention GOD and
then Jesus Who CAME IN THE FLESH and the Wholly Spirit or
Breath?
As each writer left their PART for our memory the
Salutations of the Epistles does not include a separate
Spirit.
Gal. 6:18 Brethren, the
grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
be with YOUR
spirit. Amen.
Gal. 1:3 Grace be to you and
peace
from God the Father,
AND from our
Lord Jesus Christ
Phil. 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ,

There is no "THE" so we have fellowship
with HOLY SPIRIT: Jesus said My WORDS are SPIRIT AND
LIFE.

whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son
Jesus Christ our Lord
1 Jn 1:3 may have fellowship
with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father

Harvey
Floyd: The
word with (in Jn 1:1) implies communion,
the association (alliance, organization, league, club) of
persons. As literally as this can be
translated, it is 'the Word was face to face with
(confronting,
disputing, in the face of, countering) God, he was
toward God (pros ton theon)... There are two actors (cast of characters) in the drama
(play,
show, performance), and
they are face to face with each other. They
are on the stage at the same time... What we have is the
doctrine of the Trinity: that God is a triad, that
God is one God indeed, but his unity is a complex
unity, a unity that
exists in diversity.

This sounds like Jesus speaking
of Hypocrites and quoting Isaiah 29 and Ezekiel 33.

8:9–11;
Rom. 8:1 There is therefore now no

after the FLESH, but

Rom. 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be

IN cannot mean INSIDE OF
because God lives in us in the same sense that we live in
Father-Son. That is we obey God's commandments

Now if any man have
not the SPIRIT
OF Christ, he is none of his.
Jesus is Paraclete and in the state
of HOLY SPIRIT. Therefore to have the
Spirit OF Christ is to have CHRIST in us
Rom. 8:10 And if
Christ be IN YOU
the BODY is dead because of
sin;
but the SPIRIT is life
because of righteousness.
Rom. 8:11 But if the SPIRIT
OF HIM
that raised up
Jesus from the dead dwell in you,
he that raised up
Christ from the dead

by HIS SPIRIT
that dwelleth in you.
Rom. 8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the

C.
Leonard Allen Spirit Poured out. Acts
2:32–33. Many other Pauline
texts, especially those that lay out his formulation of
the gospel, demonstrate the threefold pattern of divine
relationality: Romans 5:1–8; Galatians 4:4-6; 2
Corinthians 1:20-22; 1 Thess. 1:4–5; 2 Thess. 2:13–14; 1 Cor. 2:4–5; 6:19–20; Gal. 3:1–5; Eph. 2:20–22; Col. 3:16).
After his
conversion, Paul remained an ardent monotheist; yet
because of his encounter with the risen Christ and his
experience of the Spirit, he came to know God as a
unity of three deeply related persons.
Key
point: Scripture reveals God as three distinct persons
who in perfect RELATIONSHIP make up one God.
2. Is the Spirit of
God an impersonal power or a distinct personality?
God is not a PERSON.
Spirit literally means WIND and nothing More.
However, it is used to define SIMILAR things. A person would
not be in the same class as any of the uses of the "spirit"
word.
Psa 33:4 For the [1] word
of the [3] Lord is right;
and all his [3]
works are done in truth.
Psa 33:5 He loveth righteousness and judgment:
the earth is full of
the goodness of the Lord.
Psa 33:6 By the [1] word of the [3] Lord were
the heavens made;

The SPIRITS WHICH would rest on Jesus symbolized by the
Menorah. God breathed on the Prophets with the
Spirit OF Christ which always resulted in GOD'S WORDS.
Is. 11:1 And there shall come forth a
rod out of the stem of Jesse,
and a Branch
shall grow out of his roots:
Is. 11:2 And the

the LORD shall rest upon him,

Peter outlawed Private Interpretation

New Testament speaks of the Spirit using many different
verbs that demand a personal agent.
For example, the Spirit “testifies” with our spirits that
we are children of God (Rom. 8:16),
Spirit is
NEVER used to identify a PERSON or GOD. Spirit
means "the mental disposition of an adopted
son." If we feel like a son then we can address
God as Father.

Words translated SPIRIT never define a god or person.
SPIRIT is figurative or a PARABLE to hide the truth from the
Wise or Sophist: Rhetoricans, singers or instrument players.

3. What was Jesus’
relationship with the Spirit?
Three key aspects:
First, the
Spirit comes to impart human life to Jesus at his
conception in the womb of Mary (Lk 1:35).
Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of
the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne
of his father David:
John 4:24 GOD IS A
SPIRIT and they that worship him must worship him in
spirit and in truth.
John 7:39 (But this spake he
of the Spirit,
which they that believe on him should receive:
for the Holy Ghost was NOT YET
GIVEN
because that Jesus was
not yet glorified.)
In grammar school we understood
prepositions. The Spirit OF God is GOD'S SPIRIT or
MIND.

the breath of the Almighty hath given me life

said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee,shall
come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall

Spirit of God intervenes in the process of human
conception to begin a new humanity in the conception
of the Son. The conception and birth of Christ was a
gift of the Spirit.

God is not IGNORANT: He
always has HIS Spirit and WORD with Him

at Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan, the Spirit rests upon
Jesus as a sign of the Father’s love and Jesus’ anointing
as Messiah. As Jesus came out of the water, “heaven was
opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form
like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my
Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased’” (Lk 3:21–22).

Hislop23 The bearing
of all this upon the question of the
identification of Cybele and Astarte,
or Venus, is important. Fundamentally,
there was but one goddess--the Holy Spirit, represented
as female, when the distinction of sex was wickedly
ascribed to the Godhead,
through a perversion of the great Scripture
idea, that all the children of God are
at once begotten of the Father, and born
of the Spirit;
and under this idea, the Spirit of God, as Mother,
was represented under the form of a dove,
in memory of the fact that that Spirit, at the
creation, "fluttered"--for so, as I have
observed, is the exact meaning of the term in
Genesis 1:2--"on the face of the waters."
This goddess, then, was called Ops,
"the flutterer," or Juno,
"The Dove," or Khubele,
"The binder with cords," which last title
had reference to "the bands of love, the cords
of a man" (called in Hosea 11:4, "Khubeli Adam"),
with which not only does God continually, by His
providential goodness, draw men unto
Himself, but with which our first parent Adam,
through the Spirit's indwelling, while the
covenant of Eden was unbroken, was sweetly bound
to God. This theme is minutely dwelt on in Pagan
story, and the evidence is very abundant; but I
cannot enter upon it here. Let this only be
noticed, however,
that the Romans joined the
two terms Juno and Khubele--or, as it is
commonly pronounced, Cybele--together; and on
certain occasions invoked their supreme goddess,
under the name of Juno Covella--that is, "The
dove that binds with cords."
If the reader looks, in Layard, at the triune
emblem of the supreme Assyrian divinity, he
will see this very idea visibly embodied. There
the wings and tail of the dove have two bands
associated with them instead of feet (LAYARD'S Nineveh
and its Remains). (Fig 61)
At first the sin of Eve may have been
admitted in all its sinfulness
(otherwise men generally would have been
shocked, especially when the general
conscience had been quickened through the zeal
of Shem);
but when a woman was to
be deified, the shape that the mystic
story came to assume shows that that sin
was softened, yea, that it changed its
very character, and that by a perversion
of the name given to Eve (ZOE in the LXX),
as "the mother of all living ones," that is, all
the regenerate, she was glorified as the
authoress of spiritual life, and, under
the very name Rhea, was recognised as
the mother of the gods.
Now, those who had the working of the Mystery
of Iniquity did not find it very difficult to
show that this name Rhea, originally
appropriate to the mother of mankind,
was hardly less appropriate for her who was
the actual mother of the gods,
that is, of all the deified mortals.
Rhea, in the active sense, signifies "the
Gazing woman," but in the passive it signifies
"The woman gazed at," that is,
"The beauty," and thus, under one and the same
term, the mother of mankind and the mother of
the Pagan gods, that is, Semiramis, were
amalgamated; insomcuh, that now, as is well
known, Rhea is currently recognised as
the "Mother of gods and men" (HESIOD,
Theogon).
It is not wonderful, therefore that the name
Rhea is found applied to her, who, by the
Assyrians, was worshipped in the very
character of Astarte or Venus.

that the Spirit “rested” or “remained” (John 1:32) on him suggests
that Jesus here
entered a new dimension of his relationship with the
Spirit,
and a new stage in
his life and ministry.
This was a SIGN: anytime God's SPIRIT
is used it produces WORDS.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth

Comforter's NAME is Jesus Christ the Righteous ( 1 John 2)
