The Holy Spirit The Mind of Christ

1 2 or 3 Holy Spirit (s)? The Holy Spirit is the Mind of God. In Second Corinthians, two, Paul shows that we know the Holy Spirit or Mind of God because we have the Mind of Christ as the Holy Spirit.

If the Holy Spirit is a member of the "god family" and if we have the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ some have added up 6 spirits.

However, no where in the historical documents is the Godhead ever separated into three separate beings. None of the church fathers ever permit the Godhead to be divided and all agree that the Holy Spirit is a manifestation of God but not a human-like "person." They all use the word persona.

Paul Tillich says that prior to the liberal 19 century it would have been heresy to identify God as a person.

Karen Armstrong claims that it would be blasphemy.

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Ju.1:4

Therefore, John Mark Hicks notes that it was Rubel Shelly and Max Lucado who promote the INCARNATIONAL view of a family of gods. This was begun in about 1942 by H. Leo Boles and the Gospel Advocate. While friendly John Mark Hicks notes that the view of Max Lucado and Rubel Shelly seems to deny that Christ came fully in the flesh. That, of course, is the meaning of anti-Christ in whom the Bible says "dwells deity fully."

See the Dove which proves that God is Father and His persona or visible manifestation is a Son. This refutes the eternal worship of the MOTHER GODDESS now seen in "musical worship teams" and the overt worship of Sophia and Zoe as the manifestations of Lucifer.

This view appears even in the Old Testament to show that the Invisible Deity always manifests Himself in other forms:

One shall say, I am the Lords; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord (Jehovah), and surname himself by the name of Israel. Isa 44:5

Thus saith

the Lord (Jehovah)

This is parallel to the idea of GOD as Deity who MANIFESTS Himself as Lord or Ruler:

To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. Tit 1:4

When Thomas touched the risen Jesus there were not TWO persons in his presence when he grasp that Jesus was bott Lord AND God:

And Thomas answered and said unto him,

And this is the way Paul understands it:

Now God himself

and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. 1 Thes 3:11

However, not even the Nicene Creed treated the Holy Spirit as a "person" of the Godhead. They obliquely noticed "him" by saying: And we believe in the Holy Spirit. Therefore, Paul always identified Christ and the Spirit.

If we look at 1 Corinthians 8 to make Father and Son into TWO separated Beings:

> But to us there is but one God,
the Father,
of whom are all things, and we in him; and
> one Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom are all things,
and we by him. 1 Cor 8:6

We still have the Father as the OF all things
And the Lord as the BY all things.

But that would totally contradict what Paul said elsewhere:

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, Col 2:9

And it would conflict what what Thomas said and which was accepted by Jesus as Fact:

And Thomas answered and said unto him,
My Lord
and
my God. Jn.20:28

Therefore, we must parse this verse so that it doesn't CONTRADICT the rest of the Bible:

But to us there is but one God,

> the Father,
of whom are all things, and we in him; and
> one Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom are all things,
and we by him. 1 Cor 8:6

This can be shown in tabular form much clearer:

The Son or Lord

We BY Him

There is only ONE SPIRIT and that Spirit is God. When God operates in the material world is is normally through means. Peter, Paul and John inform us that the SPIRIT OF CHRIST was the same ONE AND ONLY Spirit Who operated in the Old Testament period.

> GOD, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Heb 1:1

Those prophets were inspired by the SPIRIT OF CHRIST.

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 1 Peter 1:11

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Rev 19:10

In the Christian dispensation, God has spoken more directly so that His SON is the expression of His Mind and is the same as the SPIRIT of Christ in the previous dispensation.

> Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Heb 1:2

When Jesus the man was glorified for having been the image of the invisible God, Paul again identified the Holy Spirit and the MIND OF CHRIST (1 Cor. 2)

Angels were the messengers of the invisible Godhead. Often we see that it is Jesus the Christ Who is the Manna, Water or Rock. Whatever visible or audible way the invisible God uses to communicate to humanity is defined as His SON or Angel. However, as SON Jesus Christ (Or Joshua = Jehovah Saves) serves in a greater role than as the voice of the prophets or the impersonal fire, lightening, or "angels of fire."

Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Heb 1:4

For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again,

I will be to him a Father,

and

he shall be to me a Son? Heb 1:5

Jesus was generated in that He was "a body prepared for me"

The Law of Moses was "added because of transgression" but could not remit sins which gives humanity the gift of A holy spirit (Acts 2:38) or the gift of "a clear consciencience" which gives the saved a co-perception. Therefore, because only God can forgive sins and only God can mediate between man and God, Jehovah-Saves lived as Spirit in the body of humanity:

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: Heb.10:5

Therefore, to be both God and Son, the Invisible Deity became both human and Divine. That is the Godhead fulfilled the roles of both Father and Son.

There is no familial relationship between the ONE GOD as Father and Son and the Holy Spirit as a "person".

If God is the Father and Jesus is the Son then Jesus was not remotely related to Deity because He would have to be younger and less powerful. Therefore, the term Father and Son are "accomodative" as proven by revelation which says:

Full invisible Deity

I

A Father

He

Will Be

TO Me

A Son

You will notice that in the "family" relationship, the "Spirit" is not a member. The Spirit is the Spirit of God and of Christ but He is never honored nor loved by the others.
In a sense, my spirit or inner man is the "father." Science knows that the "mind" is not the brain and faith says that the spirit is that "person" God put into the purely-beast nature to give us rational control.

My body hears what the spirit or father says and I it as "body" or son does the outward work. This is why Jesus did not buy the heresy that the Father was way up there:

Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou Blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? John 10:36

If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. John 10:37

But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe,

that the Father is in me,

and I in him. John 10:38

Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." Jn.14:8

Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Jn.14:9

Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Jn 14:10

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works sake. Jn 14:11

Both Hebrew and Greek define Spirit as the mind or mental disposition of the One God. If this is true then most so-called spirit-filled worship is uninformed, vain and destructive. Restoration scholars acknowledged that the Holy Spirit is the Mind of Christ even when personified.

History proves that human charisma and ignorance were always the twins of turning "church" into a one-man ego trip. Nowhere is this ignorance more profound than the notion that two persons of the Godhead have had their try and the Holy Spirit as a separate person must clean up the mess Just as at the creation. This leads to panic forms of musical and dramatic worship putting the worship leaders on display as the pattern for Christ-like church members.

The Holy Spirit is the pure, consecrated Mind or mental disposition of God Who is the One pure or holy Spirit. There are not three holy spirit persons. Furthermore, Holy is not the first name of the Holy Spirit as a separated person. The Spirit is identified by the personal pronoun because He is the Spirit or Mind of God. In a sense, I am my mind or spirit because, as Jesus Said in Jn 6:63 "the flesh counts for nothing."

Spirit in the Holy Spirit is from the Greek and Hebrew:

Pneuma (g4151) pnyoo'-mah; from 4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by anal. or figurative: a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by impl.) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, doemon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit

Ruwach (h7307) roo'-akh, wind; by resemblance breath, i. e. a sensible (or even violent exhalation; fig. life, anger, unsubstantiality; by extens. a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being including its expression and functions..

Walter Scott says that the Holy Spirit is (1) God Who is pure or Holy Spirit and (2) a believer's spirit made holy by God. The spirit we receive is A holy spirit.

Paul did not have a person called the "spirit of faith" in him. Rather, he had the mental disposition of "spirit" or faith:

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written,

I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; 2Co.4:13

Therefore, the holy spirit of faith operates in obeying the "word" or letter of Christ's commandments.

This faith as a rule or walk of life is the guarantee that God has accepted us. This faith and confidence is the earnest or down payment of the Spirit or Mind of Christ by which we walk. Notice that the gift is the "earnest" or token of the Holy Spirit. The result is confidence to walk by faith:

Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God,

who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 2Co.5:5

Therefore we are alway confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 2Co 5:6

For we walk by faith, not by sight: 2Co 5:7
The contest is never between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. The contest is between our spirit or mind and our flesh or carnal nature:

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Gal 5:16

We walk in our mind but we do not walk in another "person."

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Ep.4:17

Therefore, to walk in the spirit is to walk in our own spirit or mind made holy by God.

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit (or spirit) against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Gal 5:17

In Romans 7 and 8 Paul contrasts OUR spirit with OUR flesh. We do not lust against the Holy Spirit Person.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Gal 6:7

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Gal 6:8

The Spirit is contrasted with HIS flesh, therefore, Paul is not talking about the Holy Spirit.

Scholars warn that Paul does not speak about the Holy Spirit as a third member of the God family. Rather, the Holy Spirit is equated to the Mind of Christ (1 Cor 2)

Christians have their citizenship transferred to heaven which is wherever Christ is. Therefore, the world does not know us because we are aliens. If it sees, listens to, celebrates and applauds a self-designated Christian then we can rest assured that s/he has the wrong token or mental disposition. The gift or earnest or down payment which God has bestowed upon us is the right to be His children. We need the pledge because it does not yet appear what we shall be. However, the pledge is the knowledge that whatever that image of God we shall be like Him:

BEHOLD, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 1Jn 3:1

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1Jn.3:2

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 1Jn 3:3

The Holy Spirit or Mind of God was something which came from hearing the word to the point of obedience:

This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Ga.3:2

The same word for received and the same word for the spirit do not speak of receiving a PERSON but of receiving the spirit or mental disposition:

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Ro.8:15

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 1Co.2:12

For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus,

whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 2Co.11:4

[I.E. "fools love to be fooled."]

Again, that "spirit" is the product of HEARING.

This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Ga.3:2

Note the key words: Received --- Spirit --- by hearing.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God

was manifest in the flesh,

justified in the Spirit,

seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.1Ti.3:16

There is not a remote hint that one receives the Holy Spirit as a "person" by just hearing and believing.

This would contradict Peter's statement that we receive the GIFT of the Holy Spirit (clear consciousness or co-perception in 1 Pe 3:21) at baptism.

Therefore, the type of SPIRIT one receives is the Word of Christ which is Spirit and Life.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

Ephesians 5 and Colossians 3 on the "singing" passages equates the SPIRIT to the WORD OF CHRIST.

The "gift of the Holy Spirit" is a gift given by the Spirit following baptism (Acts 2:38). However, the Spirit is initially received as a "begetting influence" as the result of hearing by faith.

Scripture never promised a Spirit Person separate from total Deity. God would dwell within Jesus but no one was promised a separate Holy Spirit as a little person (God) in the big person (me). The following are not people and if they were there would be at least 7 holy spirits:

AND there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: Isa 11:1

And the spirit (mental disposition) of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; Isa 11:2 (And "of quick understanding"

The second person simply does not rest upon the head of the second person of the Godhead. You do not "pour" out another person. You do, however, "pour" the Mind of Christ into the human mind when you heed His words which are "Spirit" and "life" (Jn 6:63)

A "spiritual" person is one who thinks about the Mind or Spirit of God and is therefore able to discern the true meaning of His Will.

As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord;

My spirit that is upon thee,

(Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, fear, quick understanding)

and my words which I have put in thy mouth,

shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seeds seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever. Is.59:21

The faith was ministered by the teaching of Paul and received by a hearing which produced faith:

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit,

and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or

by the hearing of faith? Ga.3:5

Because the Holy Spirit is the Mind of Christ (1 Cor 2), one ministeres the Spirit by ministering faith and faith comes by hearing. Again, if the SPIRIT is given BY HEARING THE WORD then faith only would be correct and Peter in Acts 2:38 would be wrong.

To minister is to supply, furnish or feed. Paul was appointed an apostle to minister the word of the gospel.

Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) 2 Cor 9:10

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1Pe.1:23

Being born of the "seed" in human reproduction is not being born of another person. Rather, the "spirit" of life is imparted by the Word which brings SPIRIT and LIFE.

Notice, that Paul's speech and preaching is thrugh "enticing words" or "demonstration of the Spirit." Paul said that faith is produced by hearing and therefore, the Spirit is the nature of the gospel message which is the power of God:

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of mans wisdom,

but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 1 Cor 2: 4

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 1 Cor 2: 5

Notice that there are only two things being done: Speaking and Preaching. The power of God is in the gospel and not in a direct operation of a third god member.

The Holy Spirit is not God's seed. The Word which the Spirit of God or the Mind of Christ delivers is what begets us.

The HEART is the MIND: The Spirit is the mental disposition of that MIND.

How has God created it so that TRUTH can be WRITTEN on his heart?

Paul makes it plain that the Spirit which he ministered was the epistle of Christ or the Spirit or mental disposition of Christ which he preached and which were written in their minds or hearts. Their faithfulness was a "letter" which all could read:

God designed us so that words are written on our heart by hearing: "Faith comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of God."

A minister is a Teacher. Therefore, Paul wrote the Spirit on their hearts by teaching.

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us,

Written not with ink,
but with the Spirit of the living God;
Not in tables of stone,
but in fleshy tables of the heart. 2Co.3:3

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament;

Not of the letter (Law) ,
but of the spirit: (Gospel)
For the letter killeth, (Law of Moses)
but the spirit giveth life. 2Co.3:6 (Words of Christ)

The heart is the mind or "inner man." It was God's supernatural design that He "write" truth upon our minds through words--try to think a thought without words.

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: Rom 2:28

But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that

of the heart,
in the spirit,

and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Rom 2:29

Letter, here, is related to the outward flesh and not the inward heart or spirit.

Jesus left no doubt that what Paul said was true and that the SPIRIT is ministered by teaching the Spirit words of Jesus the Living Spirit:

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit (Gospel), and they are life. Jn 6:63

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Ro.1:16

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and (spirit) of a sound mind. 2Ti.1:7

This is consistent with the only definitions of the spirit as the mental disposition of a person or their mind.

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Ro.8:27

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Ep.4:23

Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; Ph.1:27

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2Ti.1:7

Jesus said that God only accepts worship "in spirit." The temples were PLACES and therefore the spirit is that nature of the mind which can think about an infinite God. Therefore, we never see Paul "worshiping" in an assembly but praying in the spirit and worshiping God in the spirit:

And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. Ro.8:27 (our mind, our heart, our spirit)

So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. 1Co.14:15

Praying or worshiping "in spirit" is worshiping in the mind which is the only place Jesus said God even looks for worship or prayer:

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ep.6:18NIV

You can tell when preachers of supernatural influence by a direct indwelling of the Spirit Person are true or false. Do they try to make a gain of you? Do they try to "hustle" business by mind-altering music, dance and drama to increase his part of the take? We have heard of foolish shepherds who promised to do just that. A shame which cannot be erased.

Proof that they received the spirit or mind of Christ was their walk in that same spirit or steps:

I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you?

walked we not in the same spirit?
walked we not in the same steps? 2Co.12:18

Walking in the steps of Paul would be to walk in the spirit of Paul. Why? Because "spirit" means attitude or mental disposition which defines WHAT we are.

You do not walk around inside the literal person Holy Spirit. Rather, you walk according to the message delivered by the Spirit of Christ.

The Lord is the Spirit as a Divine Being.

Because Lord Jesus Christ promised to return as the One Comforting Spirit (Jn 14:16), He is the only Holy Spirit available to you. Test: If those who make merchandise of you try to cut the Godhead up like a pecan pie then he is probably trying to sell you watered wine and disguising it in a new wineskin.

A SON of God is not a carnal offspring. Rather, SON is defined by Jesus as His speaking ONLY what He heard from the Father. A son builds up the name of the father.

In Isaiah 11 we noted that the Spirit which would rest upon Messiah would be the "spirit or mental disposition of the knowledge of God." This is what He came to give us.

When the Jews rejected Jesus by rejecting John's prepatory baptism, they were blind and deaf and could not see any better than they had from the time of Moses:

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. Jn 7:30

When they or we turn to the Lord the best possible gift of the Spirit of Christ is the removal of the veil of blindness:

Nevertheless, when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 2Co 3:16

The record of the prophets is the written Spirit

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Re 19:10

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Jn 6:63

By making this the "age of the Holy Spirit" the church leads its members into deep depression which can only be dulled with another dose of music as the charismatic ritual drug.

This denies the full Godhead of Father-Son-Spirit bound up in the One Name: "Lord Jesus Christ." It also contributes to the loss of love for the Words of Christ which are the Spirit's way of putting Spirit disposition into our minds or spirits.

Believing that the Holy Spirit must be taken advantage of "when He comes near," and hiring a worship facilitator to "help lead the worshiper into the presence of God" is the restoration of ancient paganism which always follows on the heels of the belief that one can gain possession of the Deity for their own feel good ceremonial legalism/

In the agrapha in the papyri one reads:

"Jesus says: Wheresoever there are two, they are not without God, and where there is one alone, I say, I am with him. Lift up the stone, and there shalt thou find me; cleave the wood, and I am there."

Woe to you if you are still trying to find Him by trying to call Him to His temple with loud performance music and drama (play) when the final trumpet sounds!
