The Word or Logos is not and cannot be a God: God's Word has the same meaning as HIS light or life. LOGOS is god's regulative principle which heaps BURNING on all who are ANTI-LOGOS.
The Word or Logos is used to REPUDIATE Hermes who was the Pagan gender-conflicted god of merchants, thieves and liars. He is KAIROS used as a pattern for new PLANTS. He was the messenger or intercessor of all Cults which go beyong the Ekklesia or a School of Christ.
God's WORD or LOGOS consists of inclusive and exclusive things connected with how God puts His WORD into the MOUTH of Jesus for the last time without the help of A Holy Spirit person.

This lets Christians, Disciples or Christ Only understand that Paul said THE LORD IS THAT SPIRIT meaning God puts His WORDS into the MOUTH of Jesus-only. Called Church A School of Christ: that narrow pattern is repeated over and over and faithful to the synagogue or ekklesia as the Church of Christ (the Rock) in the wilderness. Everyone was wise unto salvation even Gentiles because of the PATTERN.
Worship is Reading and Musing the Word of God
Acts 15:21 For Moses of old time
hath in every city them that PREACH him,
being READ in the synagogues every sabbath day.
This PATTERN is defined in Exodus 18 before they fell into Instrumental and Perverted Play.
Then and now groups as small as ten families are led and taught by a VOCATIONAL elder and REST excludes anything beyond READING and understanding Scripture.
THEN AND NOW ALMOST ABSOLUTELY:
Acts 13:27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their RULERS,

nor yet the voices of the PROPHETS
which are READ every sabbath day,
they have fulfilled them in condemning him

Jude warned that OLD SPIRITS would emerge and used the Musical Idolatry at Mount Sinai as a PATTERN.

AthenianWhy would one claiming to be a Professor of Christ--a doctor of the Law--treat Christ with less respect than a regular herald who does NOT make any changes or commentary on the message he is "waged" to deliver.
If anyone, while acting as ambassador or herald, conveys false messages from his State to another State, or fails to deliver the actual message he was sent to deliver, or is proved to have brought back, as ambassador or herald, either from a friendly or hostile nation, their reply in a false form,—against all such there shall be laid an indictment for breaking the law by sinning against the sacred messages and injunctions of Hermes and Zeus, and an assessment shall be made of the penalty they shall suffer or pay,
-[941b] if convicted. Theft of property is uncivilized, open robbery is shameless: neither of these has any of the sons of Zeus practiced, through delight in fraud or force. Let no man, therefore, be deluded concerning this or persuaded either by -poets or by any perverse -myth-mongers into the belief that, when he thieves or forcibly robs, he is doing nothing shameful, but just what the gods themselves do.1 That is both unlikely and untrue; and whoever acts thus unlawfully is neither a god at all nor a child of gods; Not ready for prime time see Thomas Campbell's Declaration and Address as a pattern for a new religion: insteac the Declaration and Address--if fueled from Locke and Hume--was a Declaration of Liberty: liberty FROM the doctors of the Law Jesus said "take away the key to knowledge."

CHRIST IN THE PROPHETS DEFINES BLASPHEMY
Those imposing musical instruments build their faith on the Levites defined by the Scribes: Jesus defined them as hypocrites and Christ in the Ezekiel 33 example named speakers, singers and instrument players.
The first two reasons assert that under the Old Testament, God did not just allow instrumental music, He commanded and blessed it. Rick offered the following passages for these contentions: 2 Chronicles 5:13-14; 7:6; 29:25-26; Psalm 33:1- 3; 92:1-3; 150:1-6.
Never mind that the godly tribes were quarantined. No singer or player went INTO or NEAR a holy thing or place on the penalty of death. Some of these patterns are separated from the last by up to 300 years.
CHRIST IN THE PROPHETS WARNED ABOUT THE LYING PEN OF THE SCRIBES.
Stand in the gate of the Lords house [courts], and proclaim there this word,
and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah,
that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord. Jeremiah 7:2
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,
Amend your ways and your doings,
and I will cause you to dwell in this place. Jeremiah 7:3
Trust ye not in lying words, saying,
The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord,
The temple of the Lord, are these. Jeremiah 7:4
Jer. 8:8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is WITH US?
LO, CERTAINLY IN VAIN MADE HE IT;
THE PEN OF THE SCRIBES IS in vain.
For I spake NOT unto your fathers, nor commanded them
in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt,
concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: Jeremiah 7:22
Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on John,
That the Pharisees puffed up unto strange boasting,
were wont to pretend that the Divine Word was with them and in them,
and therefore foolishly affirmed that they had advanced to marvellous wisdom,
the Spirit Itself will testify,
since Christ says by the Prophet Jeremiah unto them,
How do ye say, WE are wise, and the word of the Lord is with us?
For nought to the scribes became their lying pen;
the wise men were ashamed, were dismayed and taken;
what wisdom is in them? because they rejected the word of the Lord.
For how are they not taken rejecting the Living and Hypostatic Word of God,
receiving not the faith to Him-ward,
but dishonouring the Impress of God the Father,
and refusing to behold His most true Form (so to say)
through His God-befitting Authority and Power?
THE PROPHECIES BY CHRIST WERE FULFILLED BY JESUS CHRIST: JESUS AND PETER MAKES THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS THE ONLY TRUTH.

2Pet. 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words
which were spoken before by the HOLY PROPHETS
and of the commandment of us the APOSTLES of the Lord and Saviour:
IT WAS THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST WHO SPOKE THROUGH THE PROPHETS AND NOT LYING SCRIBES whom He called hypocrites by naming speakers, singers and instrument players in Ezekiel 33.
1Pet. 1:10 Of which salvation the PROPHETS have inquired and searched diligently,
who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
1Pet. 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time
the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify,
when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ,
and the glory that should follow.
God did NOT speak through the lying pen of the Scribes who recorded the Monarchy which God had NOT commanded.

THOSE WHO DELIBERATELY SOW DISCORD BY QUOTING THE LYING PEN OF THE SCRIBES (hypocrites: speakers, singers, instrument players) are defined by the Spirit:
Jer. 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you:
they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart,
and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

No evil shall come upon you.

Despise tthe Word of God of God and using your own words is:It is not logical that most who see themselves as cleargy with authority will ever be able to read the Word of God: Jesus spoke in parables "from the foundation of the World" to hide the truth from the Scribes and Pharisees: He called them hypocrites and in Ezekiel 33 named slick speaker, singers and instrument player. Seeing godliness as a means of financial gain was the motive for changing the commandments of God and claim a wage for their superior views. Jesus also said that God HIDES himself from the WISE.

THE FOUNDATIONAL CHARGE OF PRIMITIVISM
If one wanted to bewitch you to return to the most ignorant, superstitious and perverse form of primitivism, they would use the Hitler or Hegel boast of modern "postmodern" change agents and accuse YOU with being ignorant and PRIMITIVE. This has been the hallmark of using all of the RACA words against those silly enough to feed them to dissociate and cause them to be fearful of "questioning God's annointeds." It works and the Denomination called Among the Scholars would never dare speak against the main men if they ever wanted to get their book published and get on the lectureship circuit of the Among the Scholars denomination.
Because Hughes etal accuse the Church of Christ with "primitivism." However being Bible students the Campbells understood the ekklesia to be a "school of the Bible" and the thesis was to dispense with preaching and restore the Bible as the directly commanded textbook. Because the BIBLE itself claims the authority of commands, examples and inferences and so acknowledged by almost all true scholars, you return to the primitive documents or you hire a "theologian" to hallucinate a new set of documents. Only a few chosen men have the Charisma to return you to paganism of which the Sacrificial System was the worst curse. Therefore, because they have some abnormality always sought for in a witch doctor, you should dare to be a Daniel and not bow when the musical instruments want you to fall down before a living pillar or phallic symbol.
Marty E. Martin uses Richard Hughes to pass judgment on the Church of Christ and says:
Among these are members of the Churches of Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), two of the fastest growing bodies in the U.S. and wherever they send missionaries.
"Primordium" is the most obscure and thus the easiest to define of the three words. University of Iowa professor Theodore Dwight Bozeman in his sound and exciting new book To Live Ancient Lives: The Primitivist Dimension of Puritanism relates it to Mircea Eliade's concepts.
Eliade spoke of an "originative, repeatable primordium, " a sacred, mythic "Great Time," which invited mortals to a consoling "nostalgia for the perfection of beginnings" and which helped them explain the world, even as it became "the exemplary model for all significant human activities." But for Eliade as for Bozeman and other historians, the Puritan primordium. differed from others in that the Great Time occurred not in prehistory but within human history.
Martin refers to Thomas Olbricht who included as primitive the impulse of New Englanders to collect European books, to write 6,000 pages of manuscript as Cotton Mather did, to study German as Moses Stuart did, or to undertake perilous voyages to the Old World to hear complex lectures on early Christianity?
The theology of these writers is based on an unclear view of the Old Testament: thus what was a curse heaped on the Israelites for musical idolatry at Mount Sinai invited God to turn them over to worship the starry host. This was ancient Babylonianism as prophesied for the end times in Revelatin 17 where the Babylon mother of harlots uses "lusted after fruits" as speakers, singers and instrument players John Calls Sorcerers who HAD once deceived the while world. Click for MARKS of a dying movement when people loose faith and God sends strong delusions.
"Jingling, banging, and rattling accompanied heathen cults, and the frenzying shawms of a dozen ecstatic cries intoxicated the masses. Amid this euphoric farewell feast of a dying civilization, the voices of nonconformists were emerging from places of Jewish and early Christian worship ..." (Encyclopedia Judaica, 1971 ed., s.v. "Music")
In worship, this death-spasm may result because its "spirit" is "excitement" or "wine" rather than "Word" which gives life. By not anchoring faith in Christ's power to accomplish His task during His first advent the world might drug the church and its dying gasp might look exciting. This breakdown usually happens because --
"Based on the concept of an organic pattern in the life course of civilization, a morphology of history: the idea that every culture has its period of youth, its period of culmination, its years then of beginning to totter with age and of striving to hold itself together by means of rational planning, projects, and organization, only finally to terminate in decrepitude, petrification... and no more life. Moreover, in this view of Spengler's, we were at present on the point of passing from what he called the period of Culture to Civilization, which is to say, from our periods of youthful, spontaneous, and wonderful creativity to those of
uncertainty and anxiety, contrived programs, and the beginning of the end." (Campbell, Joseph, Myths to Live By, p. 84)
Therefore, just as they tried to "relight the fires" in king David but couldn't prevent his death, on page 88 Campbell (like Amos) notes that the period of "dying" is always marked by a "wine-like" urge which "resurrects" the Aztec pattern. While these urges are often the product of the immature Campbell notes that--
"Yet there is a great religious fervor and ferment evident among not only young people but old and middle-aged as well. The fervor, however, is in a mystical direction, and the teachers who seem to be saying most to many are those who have come to us
from a world that was formerly regarded as having left altogether behind in the great press forward of modern civilization, representing only archaic, out-lived manners of thinking. We have gurus galore..."
They missed Joseph Campbell in Myths to Live by: he said that when promoters of a religion lose faith in that which they have professed the CRACK AWAY to the Archaic.
By linking charisma to ecstasy, Weber emphasized release from social, psychological, and economic beyond reason and self-control. The leader is a model of release and the divine power that makes freedom possible. The followers surrender not to the person of the leader but to the power manifest in him, and they will desert him if his power fails. The followers attain freedom from routine and the commonplace by surrendering to the leader and--through him--to their own emotional depths. This is their Good, not in some ethical or conventional sense but in a primordial or instinctual way. Ecstasy comes from breaking down inhibitions, from the experience of carefree power, and from the abandonment of conventional morality. Charisma is an emotional life force opposed to the law, conformity, repression, and dreariness of an ordered life.
Weber thus comes close to Freud’s theory of society (Freud 1930), in which repression is seen as necessary for civilized life. To Freud’s basic scheme Weber adds the Dionysian element of charisma,
most typically through a leader who calls the followers to a new life, a new vision, and a new freedom when society breaks down or becomes too repressive to bear.
This tension between release and restraint, between the call of one’s deeper nature and the demands of one’s social group, is at the center of Weber’s theory. Charisma "rejects all external order," "transforms all values," and compels "the surrender of the faithful to the extraordinary and the unheard of, to what is alien to all regulation and tradition, and therefore is viewed as divine" (Weber 1968a, 1115-17).
The smoldering passion for freedom, for release from all restraint--including the restraint of one’s own conscience--may lie latent in us all. But Weber did not celebrate charisma as a solution to the emotional emptiness of conformity. He saw its value as a tool for social progress, but he felt that it was too wild, irrational, and dangerous to lead to responsible leadership or a stable social order.
Charisma could only be the revolutionary spark--the "process of originating"--and no more. In evaluating charisma he sought some way to combine the grace of charisma with an ethic of responsibility. He ended by inviting his students to test and explore their own ultimate values through engagement with it (Dow 1978). Prophetic Charisma: Corey Donovan
The primitives for almost 400 years rejected singing as an ACT and preaching because it rejected the Word and became the life story and experience (fabricated about 80% says Gallup."
No literate person would call using the Bible as the source of learning about what the Bible taught would call that primitivism. Rather, Martin nor Hughes nor Allen understand that Elaide MARKED OUT the return to shamanism or sorcery as John (an old primitive) identified of the speakers, singers, instrument makers and craftsmen as "theater builders and stage managers." They were the lusted after fruits under the Babylon mother of harlots (Rev 17-18). Because Allen appeals to the ecstatic or charismatic we may see the mark:
The word "charisma" comes from the name of the Greek goddess Charis, who personified grace, beauty, purity, and altruism. Possession of these faculties came to be known as charisma. [Footnote: The Greek word is charizesthai, and it means favor or gift of divine origin. In an erotic sense to another male.
The Greeks do not seem to have associated this with the kind of demagogic and irrational leadership of which Plato wrote in his Gorgias, although they were well aware of the rhapsodic "Dionysian" aspect of life;
The most primitive form of charisma occurs in shamanism. This is the religion of the small tribal unit and the witch doctor. The shaman-- "one who is excited, moved, raised" (Lindholm 1990, 158)--becomes master of the "techniques of ecstasy" (Eliade 1964). Typically he (or she, for among the !Kung fully 10 percent of women become shamans; Lindholm 1990, 163) is identified early as one with a "shadowed heart." The shaman is not psychotic but is disturbed in some way--the "disease of God," as the Koreans put it (La Barre 1980, 58)--showing peculiar behaviors from birth and experiencing spirit possession, trance, and epileptic seizures while a youth. Such a youth is apprenticed to a senior shaman, who trains him in occult practices. After hearing a call from a god or a spirit, the trainee withdraws into the desert or the woods to meditate in solitude, often undergoing some kind of spiritual test, such as a journey to the underworld. This culminates in a spiritual rebirth from which the shaman emerges with an inner strength and an uncanny sensitivity, emotional intensity, and detachment. Transformed, the graduate shaman returns to the tribe to claim his place as tribal witch doctor (Kopp 1972, 31-32).
Weber wondered whether charisma might arise from some mental illness, but he rejected the notion (Weber 1968a, 499). Instead, he spoke of an "emotional seizure" that originates in the unconscious of the leader and results in three "extraordinary" emotions: ecstasy, euphoria, and political passions. These emotions arouse similar feelings in others, who become followers (Weber 1968b, 273-74); the greater the leader's emotional depth and belief in his calling, the greater is his appeal and the more intense is his following (Weber 1968a, 539). Weber also associated a particular calling with each extraordinary emotion. The first involves two kinds of leaders--the shaman and the "exemplary" prophet--who use ecstasy as a tool of salvation and self-deification.
To produce ecstasy they may use alcohol and other drugs, music and dance, sexuality, or some combination of these; in short, orgies (Weber 1968b, 273). They also may provoke hysterical or epileptoid seizures (Weber 1968b, 273). This may seem like a mental disturbance or possession
However, in time this facade of competence became less stable. Their confidence began to give way to vain boasting and a naive sense of invincibility. Unrealistic, grandiose fantasies appeared in their conversations, along with a streak of exhibitionism. So "brittle" did their confidence and self-certainty become that they were sometimes unable to admit to a gap in their knowledge; their need to appear strong was so shallow as to render them unable to ask for information, assistance, or advice. They were reluctant to seek therapy but had been forced to do so because of having been compromised by various fraudulent or sexually perverse behaviors. Prophetic Charisma: Corey Donovan
Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites and pointed to Isaiah 29 and Ezekiel 33 to identify Rhetoricians, singers and instrument players. Because the Mother of harlots USES those able to perform sorcery by speaking, singing or playing instruments, we should not that you must NOT pay people for the job:
Music and Rhetoric as marks of the most primitive has some side effects: H. Bamford says that the oldest profession was the musical prophesier who was RELIEVED of productive work because he had a way of speaking to the gods and demanding fertility as the world's oldest profession: emotionally or sexually abnormal. The Hebrew scriptural verse (Exodus 22: 17) M'KHSHEYFAH LO T'CHIYEH for example, has for centuries been haphazardly translated as 'You shall not suffer a witch to live,' when literally it translates: 'You should not SUSTAIN a witch, meaning don't get into the habit of supporting the livelihood of the village magician; don't let some guy with a lot of supernatural power drain you of your savings through fear and intimidation. Let him get a job like everybody else, and perform his magic out of the goodness of his heart and in recognition of the sacred gift he possesses. Another translation of the exact same Hebrew wording would be: 'From sorcery you should not live,' as in don't base your entire life and all of your affairs on the powers of sorcery, or, don't make a living from it." (From "MAGIC OF THE ORDINARY by Rabbi Gershon Winkler (C) 2001.)
Because all music terms in the Bible point to evil roots and all of the music or instrument terms point to "charming" or to sorcery, it comes as no surprise that while all literate history has rejected musical machines, the modern critics attempt to approve or impose instruments which were always the mark of Satan, prostitutes, warriors or sacrificial exorcists."
C. Leonard Allen Trinitarian Theology and Spiritual Life C. Leonard Allen is part of the same group promoting a strange form of TRINITY based on God's need for hITY. This has no basis in any classical trinitarian teaching which agrees with Jesus that Father things, Spirit sends words and the Son articulates words for us. God has His own mind and wisdom within himself: that is why we are not made into a group of three people but one complex body, soul and spirit.
Trinity as “Necessary” Fact in Alexander Campbell’s “Christian System of Facts"
John Mark Hicks at Rochester Accuses Alexander Campbell of defending Trinitarianism as the only option for opposing Barton W. Stone's view of the nature of Jesus of Nazareth. We have known that the ACADEMIC world is devoted to teaching a MYTHICAL HISTORY. I aked a friend who was entering his doctoral work on English history: "When do they quit teaching the myths and begin teaching history?" He noted that they were just now beginning to sort out the "urban legends" of fantasy land. We believe that "Myths America Lives By" is created by a scholarly disconnect from the original documents of history and a reliance on other "scholars" who can advance their "career path."
Richard T. Hughes is Distinguished Professor, Religion Division, at Pepperdine University.
The Stone Campbell Movement attempts to BOND the churches of Christ to the Stoneites with the goal of promoting UNITY which always meant capitulation to the mortal sinfulness of attempting to worship a Holy Spirit God with the works of human hands: nothing is more works intensive than music.
See the Stone Campbell Movement and the links which deprive people like Richard T. Hughes and C. Leonard Allen of any claim to RECLAIM faithful churches of Christ by threatening: "Bow or Burn." There is absolutely NOTHING promoted by the Campbells and hundreds of others which did not have its ROOTS in the Bible as well as true scholars who preached those roots. There is nothing in the Bible or in the views of historical scholars--before the Christian church in 1878--which does not know that ALL musical terms and names of instruments are MARKS of Satan, burning types of Lord Jesus Christ, priests or Sodomites.
Hughes and Allen make a great LEAP backward and land in downtown Babylon whose religion was imposed on Israel as a curse when they rose up to play in musical idolatry of the TRIAD at Mount Sinai. All HISTORIANS who commented in the Bible say it over and over.
Those promoting MUSICAL worship have only Satan for their authority.
What is the universal connection between music AS worship and Serpent Worship?
How does music AS worship connect to the Devil? Jesus said that children of the Devil "speak on their own."
See Leonard Allen & Danny Gray Swick In Participating in God's Life Two Crossroads for Churches of Christ. If you are a "scholar" validated by other "scholars" you don't have to worry about the Bible or historical facts. See how Leonard Allen misses the point in Restoration History and his reviewer does not know his own Charles Wesley's views against the trinity and instrumental music.

That leap is reinforced by partial quotes to make Campbell a "Trinitarian" if partially in the closet.I would say NO. God is God and professors are professors and never the twain shall meet. If God intended that we GET SAVED only to IMPROVISE and INNOVATE then why did He spend so much time condemning those who refused to follow His Commands and Examples?
The CORE saving truth according to Rubel Shelly and others contains only seven facts ABOUT Jesus. The CORE doesn't even have SEED left on it.
"Are you having difficulty discerning or receiving this "new revelation"?
Then you have been interpreting your Bible in the "old way,"
comparing Scripture with Scripture, studying diligently to account for every jot and tittle and being careful to rightly divide the Word of truth."If this describes you, then you belong to the "Old Generation"
........... which will not enter in to "possess the land" in the Latter Rain Revival."You may even be a member of a denominational church, with its dogmatic confession of faith and statement of doctrine.
These legalistic forms will be relics of the past in the up and coming "Post-denominational Church."
Paul Cain advises that you "dump all that carnal stuff" (doctrine)and listen to what the "spirit" is saying to the churches through the Latter Rain Prophets and Apostles, who are dispensing many "new, sacred truths."
Carroll D. Osburn: These are the best of times to be involved in Christian education! If we are to have a truly significant impact upon the national and international scene,
faculties of religion must play leading prophetic roles in channeling and facilitating whatever changes loom ahead.
Or, it is called THE NEW WINESKIN. Why do we think that the SCHOLAR'S writings are so funny and clearly ANTI-scholarly?
Calvin: "There is no more marked manifestation of God's wrath than the fact that he permits the decline of his spoken and written Word."
When God pours out His wrath, He sends BUFFOONS.
We will prove by quoting ORIGINAL SOURCES that "among the scholars" dwells the same spirit of the early DOCTORS OF THE LAW condemned by Jesus because they "take away the KEY to knowledge." SCHOLARLY books must quote OTHER SCHOLARS but they assuredly have never read much Bible or men like Calvin or Martin Luther who repudiates the ASSAULT rhetoric in the following quotations. Not ye checked.
C. Leonard Allen and Richard T. Hughes, Discovering Our Roots: The Ancestry of the Churches of Christ (1988, ACU Press).
Given Luther's critiqued of philosophy "devil's whore." The entire Bible and secular history PROVES that musical rituals are the INSTRUMENTS OF THE "SONG OF THE PROSTITUTE" who was Tyre, ancient Babylon and the end- time BABYLON WHORE. She will AGAIN return to Sheol with HER musicians and instrument players (Rev. 18).
Richard T. Hughes and C. Leonard Allen
Richard T. Hughes and C. Leonard Allen, in their book, Discovering our Roots: The Ancestry of the Churches of Christ, made a most significant statement on page 8: "If we assume that our roots are entirely sacred and not profane, entirely apostolic and not historical, entirely Biblical and not cultural, then we have elevated ourselves above the level of common humanity, and, in essence, made ourselves into gods."
It is probable that these writers failed to read critical information which did not define "church" in the Declaration and Address a church but a society of local people: church was defined as a schol of the Bible and worship was defined as "reading and musing the Word of God." This explains the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness: it was inclusive of reading and rehearsing the Word and exclusive of vocal or instrumental rejoicing.
It is a fact that all religious persuasions believe that their roots are in the apostolic teachings of the New Testament. The so-called "high church" view of the Stonites that faith and practice evolves to fit the culture was NEVER accepted by any group in the history of the church. And in fact all denominations claim first century roots. That makes the Restoration Movement exactly fit common humanity. That being true then to claim this "maes ourselves into gods" is sophmoric and intended to predjuice the reader. See the history of Commands, Examples and Inferences which any Bible student would know was not invented by non-instrumental churches of Christ.
These anti-church writers clearly focus in on specific issues:
> Choirs or "teams"
> Instruments
> Faith Only
> Role of Women
> Premillenialism> Baptism for or in order to the remission of sins rather than baptism BECAUSE you are predestinated and saved by faith only.
> Give the false impression that EVERYONE ELSE freely fellowships everyone else, impose a burden which deprives free believers the "right of association" and the "right to practice religion based on their own views of Scripture."
> They use psychological violence by their mantra that to REFUTE any doctrines of anyone else makes you legalistic, sectarian and unloving. Of course they make more than a cottage industry out of judging those who pay their bills.
Scripture gives everyone the liberty and freedom of belief and of association. In fact, John Locke whom they despise, risked his life and liberty to give us political and religious freedom to freely JOIN any association, to condemn it and to WALK AWAY from it if we choose. Those who IMPOSE something not essential to the function of the church or synagogue not authorized by Scripture are clearly by all definitions the SECTARIANS.
Sense and lust blinded their minds in some, and a careless inadvertency in others, and fearful apprehensions in most
(who either believed there were, or could not but suspect there might be, superior unknown beings) gave them up into the hands of their priests to fill their heads with false notions of the deity,
and their worship with foolish rites, as they pleased;
and what dread or craft once began, devotion soon made sacred, and religion immutable. John LockeWhatever went wrong went wrong in the hands of "scholars."
It cannot be grasped that simply singing as teaching is what Paul commanded. At the same time, musical performance is CRAFTSMANSHIP condemned in Revelation 18. It is put into the hands of a priest or MUSICAL WORSHIP LEADER like the Catholic Precentor and fills head with the false notions of the writer of the silly praise songs.
These people actively work to remove this liberty.

Richard T. Hughes and C. Leonard Allen, Discovering our Roots: From page 5 "This attitude toward the past characterized the early movement... Propelled by such an attitude toward the past, restoration movements like ours easily develop a kind of historylessness. By this term I refer to the perception that, while other churches or movements are snared in the web of profane history, one's own church or movement stands above mere human history. One's own movement partakes only of the perfections of the first age, the sacred time of pure beginnings... This sense of historylessness works in powerful and subtle ways. In the process it creates exhilarating (and damaging) illusions.
It is doubtful that any modern theologian in contrast to a Bible and history scholar is as aware as some of the early men like the Campbells. They clearly read and understood the "church fathers" and read in Greek and Latin. They got their views against the trinity from John Calvin. They got their ideas of simple teaching and opposing instruments from ALL church fathers and founders of denominations. They got their CENI from the Bible and from the understanding of all historic scholars who insisted that the church must be APOSTOLIC. John Calvin repudiated the work of the "pastors" in councils making RATIONAL decisions about things such as the trinity.
If you need a fiction writer?
"Among Churches of Christ it often has meant that we simply discounted eighteen centuries of Christianity as,
And not surprisingly, the same attitude has led many people among Churches of Christ to dismiss their own history as itself irrelevant. For after all, if our origins come entirely from the Bible and our churches are New Testament churches, then we really need not bother ourselves with the recent past.at worst, a diseased tumor or, at best, an instructive failure.
That sounds like the description of dominant pastors and theologians:
"The pastor is not a necessity. He is a FUNGUS GROWTH upon the church, the body of Christians, DWARFING its growth, PREVENTING its development of its members; and until the church GETS RID of him it will NEVER prosper as it should. In the Bible we can find all the necessities.
"I can testify from my own observation that a good eldership will lose its efficiency, and its members become both UNABLE and UNWILLING to do the work of elders, in a very few years after the employment of a pastor. And if under the pastor system a good eldership has ever developed, I have never seen or heard of the case. I don't believe that has or ever will be done." --James A. Harding, Gospel Advocate, May 20, 1885
It is absolutely certain that there is no history showing a unity between what became the Disciples of Christ and the Church of Christ. Any agreement to meet in the same "house" was based on rigid rules: when people imposed instruments that ceased. Such "unionism" never existed in most churches of Christ. It was the Church of Christ which rejected the Disciples within about a decade when the first society created discord. After 1859 the imposing of instruments made any cooperative effort impossible.
Contrary to their history in 1906 the Churches of Christ simply stated that they were not part of the "society and organ party." What became the Christian church did not begin for another decade and was not complete until 1971. Therefore, it is a big lie that the Church of Christ sected out of the Christian Church.
So, we wonder what HISTORY is used to bite the hands of those who feed the neo-scholars.
- All of the Pre-Zwingli (misunderstood) people believed that Baptism fos FOR the remission of sins.
- All historic churches called themselves The Church of Christ.
- All historic churches repudiated instrumental music: not even the Catholic sang sentimental poetry accompanied with the organ.
- All historic churches except Catholics defendled the CENI and "speak where the Bible speaks."
- Historic scholars repudiated a paid clergy.
- All historic churches defined "trinity" as did Jesus that the Father thinks, the Spirit breaths and the Son articulates words. None believed that God was three separated "people."
- No history thought of the Spirit as a people who "guided them beyond the sacred page." Not even the Nicean Creed included the Spirit OF God as a member of the Godhead.
- There is no historic council which APPROVED the use of instrumental music.
- The council of the Church of England attempted to remove the organs along with the protestants but were prevented by Queen Elizabeth.
- The HISTORY of the original Restoration was that church was a SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE: it had no preaching as such and repudaited a hired clergy.
- History is fairly complete in following the Bible in restricting women who did and will force the church into a "spiritual" or charismatic for of worship.
With band member Rubel Shelly that is DELETERIOUS AND DECADENT. Those "not among the scholars" call that Destructive and rotten. However, restorationism has always been the cry of REFORMERS:
John Calvin wrote of many things RESTORED
I am willing, however, that all the advantage which the church may have derived from our labors shall have no effect in alleviating our fault, if in any other respect we have done her injury. Therefore, let there be an examination of our whole doctrine, of our form of administering the sacraments (MEANS of Grace), and our method of governing the church;
and in none of these three things will it be found that we have made any change upon the ancient form, without attempting to restore it to the exact standard of the word of God.
To return to the division which we formerly adopted.
All our controversies concerning doctrine relate either to the legitimate worship of God, or to the ground of salvation.
Self-Contradictory: Of course, those "among the scholars" cannot point to tradition or history for any of the Biblical views they are so bent on destroying. The same SCHOLARS, with the other side, make the same unlearned accusation that churches of Christ got ALL of its philosophy from men like John Locke and David Hume: neither of whom they have read by going to the original sources. (The other tongue, below)
The Wilderness Wandering is treated by Rubel Shelly as a "pattern for community and worship." However, Steven proved that ALL faithful preachers will be despised and rejected of men because they also reject God. The failure of MUSICAL IDOLATRY at Mount Sinai lost them THE BOOK OF THE COVENANT and burdened them with THE BOOK OF THE LAW. This did not define a form of SPIRITUAL WORSHIP but provided animal sacrifices to show the horrible nature of their sin which centered on MUSICAL IDOLATRY. Most literate Bible readers know the story. Hear Steven as he was preparing the way for his own sacrifice:
I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. Acts 7:34
In Hebrew Afflict is ANAH which is to afflict by mocking SINGING. From to sing, shout, testify.
This is RISING UP TO PLAY it is MUSICAL IDOLATRY: GOD TAKES AWAY HIS COVENANT AND PUTS YOU UNDER LAW IF YOU DO IT IN CHURCH.
Paul condemned women taking authority. The word is AUTHENTIA. This means SEXUAL AUTHORITY: it is both Erotic and murderous. It is not possible for women to become vocal and habitually non-sedentary for that period of the SYNAGOGUE or school of the Bible. It is not possible for a woman to make herself obvious without exerting sexual authority over MOST males. In the Greek world, the males or Sodomites also sang and played instruments. They exercised sexual authority over women and STRANGE males. This is why "musical worship teams" attract both sexes and you hear the males defending this NEW STYLE WORSHIP more than females.Musicologists have always known that "churchy" songs to replace the commanded inspired text derived in part from Voodoo, especially the Rock beat. Modern "praise songs" are also known to be EROTIC where even the male composers preach a need to KNOW GOD PERSONALLY which was always sexually.
The KOMOS or ritual of Dionysus was attempted over Jesus. They PIPED trying to get him to sing the LAMENT SONGS and DANCE. That would prove that He was submitting to the INITIATION. This would prove to the priesthood that Jesus was their ANTICIPATED Dionysus. This had been the musical and perverted rituals in the Holy Precincts as the Abomination of Desolation. However, Jesus would not BOW to Baal.
This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. Acts 7: 35He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. Acts 7: 36
This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. Acts 7: 37
This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: Acts 7: 38
To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, Acts 7: 39
Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. Acts 7: 40
The clergy, Tabernacle and sacrifices caused the Levites to be the BURDEN BEARERS of both the tabernacle and the priesthood. They were the warrior musicians who called assembly to begin or end march or sounded instruments and "made a joyful noise before the Lord" as a way to PANIC the enemy and "melt their heart" with music. Psalm 41 prophesied this of Judas, and the Dead Sea Scroll shows that Messiah would be attacked by the Warrior Levites and Priests.
However, CHURCH or people's congregation was quarantined away from the Tabernacle an any loud sounding or PLEASING THEMSELVES was outlawed. The CHURCH or synagogue was ONLY for hearing FROM God and not God hearing from musical worshipers:
But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. Num 10:7
Qahal (h695) kaw-hawl'; from 6950; assemblage (usually concr.): - assembly, company, congregation, multitude.
This is "synagogue" in the Greek Translation.
The alarm is:
Ruwa (h7321) roo-ah'; a prim. root; to mar (espec. by breaking); fig. to split the ears (with sound), i. e. shout (for alarm or joy): - blow an alarm, cry (alarm, aloud, out), destroy, make a joyful noise, smart, shout (for joy), sound an alarm, triumph.
The church was the EKKLESIA (h1577) those called out of SIN (Egypt) or a SYNAGOGUE.

Harmony of the Law - Volume 2 by John Calvin"For this office, to which they were appointed, was no servile one, as that they should blow the trumpets at the command of others; but rather did God thus set them over public affairs,
that the people might not tumultuously call their assemblies in the blindness and precipitation of passion, but rather that modesty, gravity, and moderation should be observed in them.
"We know how often in earthly affairs God is not regarded, but counsels are confidently discussed without reference to His word. He testified,
therefore, by this employment of the priests,
that all assemblies, except those in which He should preside, were accursed. This small band of anti-Biblical and Anti-church BOOK PEDDLERS deny that the fundamentals of restorationism is Biblical but PROFANE. However, churches of Christ repudiated ritualistic ceremonies. It was the Christian churches which SOWED MUSICAL SECTARIANISM and adopted PROFANE PRACTICES although not from RELIGIOUS history.
Richard T. Hughes and C. Leonard Allen, Discovering our Roots: On page 7, \he writes: "In the process we sought not so much to understand earlier Christian movements in all their complexity. We sought rather to decry them or on occasion simply to ridicule them. For they obviously ran in the stream of profane history, swept along by little more than human willfulness and ignorance.
But our movement was different. It did not run in any wide and turgid stream.Rather, it gushed directly out of the spring, forming only a crystal clear pool around it... It was an exciting story, almost the stuff of epics and legends." Quoted by John Waddy.
"So called" music was not one of those issues. The Campbells, for instance, came primarily out of the Presbyterian group. Some of the best repudiation of instrumental music came from Presbyterians.
Does any one object, that music is very useful for awakening the minds of men and moving their hearts? I own it;
but we should always take care that no corruption creep in, which might both defile the pure worship of God and involve men in superstition. Moreover, since the Holy Spirit expressly warns us of this danger by the mouth of Paul,
to proceed beyond what we are there warranted by him is not only, I must say, unadvised zeal, but wicked and perverse obstinacy.
"We know that our Lord Jesus Christ has appeared, and by His advent has abolished these legal shadows.
Instrumental music, we therefore maintain, was only tolerated on account of the times and the people, because they were as boys, as the sacred Scripture speaketh, whose condition required these puerile rudiments.
But in gospel times we must not have recourse to these unless we wish to destroy the evangelical perfection and to obscure the meridian light which we enjoy in Christ our Lord." (Calvin's Commentary on the Thirty-third Psalm, and on 1 Sam. 18:1-9).
> Because MUSIC is one of the primary issues of the new Anti movement, the reader should understand that the Restoration Movement DID NOT even consider such a radical institution in the beginning because there was no instruments in their background.
> Therefore, the church took notice of their so-called PROFANE HISTORY and saw no reason to change.
> It was ONLY when the musical sectarians introduced instruments to compete for the traffick in music that there was any reason to repudiate the innovation.
It was willfulness and ignorance which caused one muddied stream to flow into musical rituals. The same presumed profane history is turned upside down to FALSELY ACCUSE churches of Christ for NOT rejecting the clear WATER OF THE WORD of God which prescribed the synagogue and utterly repudiated the CHURCH as a PROFANE worship institution.
Calvin Continues: "Profane nations also had their ceremonies, such as auguries, supplications, soothsayings, victims, because natural reason dictated that nothing could be engaged in successfully without Divine assistance;
but God would have His people bound to Him in another way, so that, when called by the sound of the sacred trumpets as by a voice from heaven,
they should assemble to holy and pious deliberations. The circumstance of the place also has the same object.
The door of the Tabernacle was to them, as if they placed themselves in the sight; of God.
We will speak of the word dewm, mogned (synagogue) elsewhere. Although it signifies an appointed time, or place, and also an assembly of the people, I prefer translating it convention, because God there in a solemn manner,
as if before His sacred tribunal, called the people to witness, or, according to appointment, proceeded to make a covenant with them.
But when they frequent their sacred assemblies, musical instruments in celebrating the praises of God would be no more suitable than the burning of incense, the lighting up of lamps, and the restoration of the other shadows of the law.
The Papists, therefore, have foolishly borrowed this, as well as many other things, from the Jews.
On the contrary, the MUSICAL agents were and are often associated with homosexual artisans who believe that sodomy binds the spirit and flesh together. The Daktyls or Kabiri like Jubal and the rest of the LAMECH (Ea among the Babylonians):
The DAKTYLS, being the Greek word for "fingers," are the humans depicted as spirits born from Gaia pressing her fingers into the ground. They are thus thought to be the real people who sprang from the earth, placing the folkloric memories of the DAKTYLS, like the KABIRI representation of Original Man, deep into the evolutionary past. It is said that the first wise men descended from the DAKTYLS. Were they the first to introduce language back in 500,000 B.C.? Homo sapien, recall, does mean "wise or intelligent man."
We'll probably never know, but they did invent the notes of the musical scale and introduced musical instruments into the Pelasgian region. As soothsayers, sorcerers, and conjurers their magical practices and mysteries traveled to Italy and Greece.
Whatever they were called and wherever they were found, The Children of Gaiety all shared the same attributes - a connection with the feminine power, the mother of the gods; a working of the magical arts and warding off of harm, all dancing down the forces of nature in the midst of a great din. In fact, the ancient writers often used their names as a synonym for the "magician."
Candidates for initiation into the KABIRI were crowned with a garland of olive and wore a purple band round their loins. The dancing was then begun.
In fact, homosexuality was part of the ritual, what the historians in their scholarly dungeons called their "most immoral tendencies." The purpose was to evoke a passage beyond earth to a higher life. That is, "to lead the worshipers into the presence of the gods."
That is, in their mystical dances, continued leaping into the air achieves a shamanic state of trance, a transfer of consciousness analogous to the transformation of the
magician into a bird whereby the apprentice masters his powers to join a gay brotherhood
"who, by nature, are superior to other men." 14
"Smiths and shamans are from the same nest," also declares a Yakut proverb from early North America, cited by the mythologist Mircea Eliade. 15"They also invented the tricks of the magic art, to deceive the eyes. By their aid it comes to pass that that which is appears not to be and this which is not appears to be. They themselves invent necromancies, responses, and oracles to delude the minds of man with lying divination by means of ambiguous issues." (Lactanius Ante-Nicene Fathers, VII, p. 232).
Fast forward to the same C. Leonard Allen recycling:
C. Leonard Allen and Richard T. Hughes, Discovering Our Roots: The Ancestry of the Churches of Christ (1988, ACU Press).
Leonard Allen - Richard Hughes: "For restoration...often begets a sense of historylessness, an identification with the first century church so strong that the intervening history becomes irrelevant or even abhorrent" (p. 152). Waddey
On the obvious contrary, churches of Christ may be unique in its search for roots in the sense of those who have almost always called themselves the church of Christ based on the Bible, those who have remained faithful and reject instrumental music for worship, those who observed the Lord's Supper on a weekly basis, those who have rejected FAITH ONLY, those who believed that baptism was FOR the remission of sins, those who have been led by elders and those who have been congregational in organization.
II. Later Discussions: Schaff
The Reformers aimed to reform the old Church by the Bible; the Radicals attempted to build a new Church from the Bible. The former maintained the historic continuity; the latter went directly to the apostolic age, and ignored the intervening centuries as an apostasy.
The Reformers founded a popular state-church, including all citizens with their families; the Anabaptists organized on the voluntary principle select congregations of baptized believers, separated from the world and from the State.
Notice that those who rely upon inner experience ARE the ones who ignore history.
Nothing is more characteristic of radicalism and sectarianism than an utter want of historical sense and respect for the past. In its extreme form it rejects even the Bible as an external authority, and relies on inward inspiration. This was the case with the Zwickau Prophets who threatened to break up Luther' work at Wittenberg.
They accepted the New Testament as their only rule of faith and practice, and so far agreed with the Reformers, but utterly broke with the Catholic tradition, and rejected Luther' theory of forensic, solifidian justification, and the real presence. They emphasized the necessity of good works, and deemed it possible to keep the law and to reach perfection. They were orthodox in most articles of the common Christian faith, except Hutzer and Denck, who doubted the doctrine of the Trinity and the divinity of Christ.
The first and chief aim of the Radicals was not (as is usually stated) the opposition to infant baptism, still less to sprinkling or pouring, but the establishment of a pure church of converts in opposition to the mixed church of the world.
The rejection of infant baptism followed as a necessary consequence. They were not satisfied with separation from popery; they wanted a separation from all the ungodly.
Perhaps it is "among the scholars" that there has been so little interest in church history to determine if these doctrines have always been practiced even in the face of organized hostility much like that the present church is undergoing.
The fact is that it is because in EVERY AGE we find the church calling itself "the church of Christ." We find it believing that baptism is FOR or in order to the forgiveness of sins. It clearly comprehends that Zwingli introduced FAITH ONLY in 1525 and the BAPTIST view of baptism by Zwingli treats the intervening history becomes irrelevant or even abhorrent" pages 6-7
"In this matter of baptism -- if I may be pardoned for saying it -- I can only conclude that all the doctors have been in error from the time of the apostles. . . . All the doctors have ascribed to the water a power which it does not have and the holy apostles did not teach."[iii] Zwingli Baptism
So while defending the BAPTIST view of Baptism and repudiating the church of Christ view, the "scholars" have TURNED TRUTH ON ITS HEAD. But, unfortunately, the blind will lead the blind. The church of Christ assuredly did not absorb anything from the the "Baptist movement" (which "helped provide the seedbed of our own movement") since the Baptists attempt to excommunicate Thomas Campbell for his views of Baptism.
Rather than the Bible the church of Christ got its views from profane history and "a scholarly movement called Christian Humanism,"
"A scholarly movement called Christian Humanism" might include John Locke who fathered our political and religious freedom so that we did not get sacrificed for repudiating the Baptists. John Locke defined HERESY which would make the INSTRUMENTALISTS heretics. Here is why the NEW AGE SCHOLARS HATE JOHN LOCKE:
The Papists and Lutherans, though both of them profess faith in Christ and are therefore called Christians, yet are not both of the same religion, because
these acknowledge nothing but the Holy Scriptures to be the rule and foundation of their religion,
those take in also traditions and the decrees of Popes and of these together make the rule of their religion;
and thus the Christians of St. John (as they are called) and the Christians of Geneva are of different religions, becausethese also take only the Scriptures, and
those I know not what traditions, for the rule of their religion. This being settled, it follows,
first, that heresy is a separation made in ecclesiastical communion between men of the same religion
........... for some opinions no way contained in the rule itself; and,[Those who cause division over untaught questions are, according to Locke, heretics]
secondly, that amongst those who acknowledge nothing but the Holy Scriptures to be their rule of faith,
heresy is a separation made in their Christian communion for opinions not contained in the express words of Scripture.
Taking the Scriptures as the basis for faith and practice defines a CHRISTIAN. Refusing to use the Bible's clear statement on Baptism, The Lord's Supper and Anti-Instrumental music is defined as Scriptural but this is lumped with PROFANE HISTORY and having John Locke as our FATHER.
Leonard Allen - Richard Hughes: "We (Churches of Christ) have often assumed that our roots are simply in the New Testament and that we really have not been shaped in any significant way by the intervening history" (p. 2).
lures us into thinking that we can escape history and tradition entirely..." (p. 3). "We ...have simply failed to recognize the traditions at work in our midst" (p. 3). "For restoration...often begets a sense of historylessness, an identification with the first century church so strong that the intervening history becomes irrelevant or even abhorrent" (p. 152).
How could restoration ignore history? Isn't restoration the attempt to look at historical practices and check them against the Bible. Where the Bible speaks we speak, where the Bible is silent we are silent is very ancient.
That is, to GO BACK TO THE BIBLE to Restore the church is somehow evil because it does not let TRADITION or CULTURE allow it to interpret the Bible.
Why is it that WE have not been able to sort out traditions such as: Evangelists turned into preachers, premillenialism, secular song books, complex harmony, instruments among some, the social gospel {programs}, three meetings a week, laying by in store as a LAW, "christian colleges," Singing as a LAW instead of teaching the Biblical Text, Baptists teachers as instructors, Unity Meetings, workshops of evil, stealing prophesies from other prophets, Jubilees ($1/4 million a year), Books buttering up Baptists, Dominant preachers demoting elders and deacons, adding Deaconesses, Sabbath worship, taking the Lord's Supper with swine flesh in the teeth. Youth Ministers, Campus Ministers, Finance Ministers, Musical worship teams, choirs, "holy theater," and on and on.
However, betcha that no professor or self-selected prophet to CHANGE THE CHURCH is going to "make tents" while he tells falsehoods about it being sectarian traditionalism which REPUDIATES musical performance
Carroll D. Osburn On pages 14-15 we read: "With so many questions flying around and so much uncertainty being expressed in various quarters,
what an opportunity for the various faculties of our Christian colleges and universities to help shape the future!
These are the best of times to be involved in Christian education! If we are to have a truly significant impact upon the national and international scene,
faculties of religion must play leading prophetic roles in channeling and facilitating whatever changes loom ahead.
See Carol D. Osburn on channeling probably as a change agent code word.
An outdated curriculum from a sectarian past that placed emphasis upon transmitting doctrinaire positions will not suffice if we would engage convincingly the larger arenas of current religious thought...
Our graduate programs must train students how to think, to investigate the biblical text afresh,
to feel the pulse of the world around them,
to sense where things ought to go,and provide the kind of experiences that will enable servants to go out into churches and communities and provide direction. Hall
Isn't it pretty arrogant to ignore 2,000 years of study about the Bible? We will see that someone isn't able to DEFINE this new MYSTICAL religion
Leonard Allen - Richard Hughes: of Huldreich Zwingli, "the clear and pure light, the Word of God, has been dimmed, confused and diluted with human principles and teachings so that all those who call themselves Christians do not know the divine will. They only have their self-invented worship, holiness and external spiritual knowledge which is man-made" (p. 21).
It is the teaching of liberal theology by liberal theologians who DIM the view of the Bible. Zwingli thought that HE AND ONLY HE had grasped FAITH ONLY and became the father of the Baptist Church. He claimed that ALL of the doctors had been wrong and the he had RESTORED faith only and rejecting Baptism.
Schaff § 18. The Public Disputations. 1523.
A third disputation, of a more private character, was held Jan. 20, 1524. The advocates of the mass were refuted and ordered not to resist any longer the decisions of the magistracy, though they might adhere to their faith.
During the last disputation, Zwingli preached a sermon on the corrupt state of the clergy, which he published by request in March, 1524, under the title "The Shepherd." He represents Christ as the good Shepherd in contrast with the selfish hirelings, according to the parable in the tenth chapter of the Gospel of John. Among the false shepherds he counts the bishops who do not preach at all; those priests who teach their own dreams instead of the Word of God; those who preach the Word but for the glorification of popery; those who deny their preaching by their conduct; those who preach for filthy lucre; and, finally, all who mislead men away from the Creator to the creature. Zwingli treats the papists as refined idolaters, and repeatedly denounces idolatry as the root of the errors and abuses of the Church.
The Swiss Diet, by a deputation, March 21, 1524, expressed regret that Zurich sympathized with the new, unchristian Lutheran religion, and prayed the canton to remain faithful to old treaties and customs, in which case the confederates would cheerfully aid in rooting out real abuses, such as the shameful trade in benefices, the selling of indulgences, and the scandalous lives of the clergy.
§ 19. The Abolition of the Roman Worship. 1524.
Bullinger, I. 173 sqq. Egli, 234 sqq.
By these preparatory measures, public opinion was prepared for the practical application of the new ideas. The old order of worship had to be abolished before the new order could be introduced.
The destruction was radical, but orderly. It was effected by the co-operation of the preachers and the civil magistracy, with the consent of the people. It began at Pentecost, and was completed June 20, 1524.
In the presence of a deputation from the authorities of Church and State, accompanied by architects, masons and carpenters, the churches of the city were purged of pictures, relics, crucifixes, altars, candles, and all ornaments, the frescoes effaced, and the walls whitewashed, so that nothing remained but the bare building to be filled by a worshiping congregation. The pictures were broken and burnt, some given to those who had a claim, a few preserved as antiquities. The bones of the saints were buried.
Even the organs were removed, and the Latin singing of the choir abolished, but fortunately afterwards replaced by congregational singing of psalms and hymns in the vernacular (in Basle as early as 1526, in St. Gall 1527, in Zurich in 1598). "Within thirteen days," says Bullinger, "all the churches of the city were cleared; costly works of painting and sculpture, especially a beautiful table in the Waterchurch, were destroyed. The superstitious lamented; but the true believers rejoiced in it as a great and joyous worship of God."
Sure, there are some things HUMAN MADE but the good doctors of the Law are not going to reject the TRADITIONISM we have partially listed because many see godliness as a means of financial gain. That means SEEING PREACHING or PROFESSORING as OCCUPATION rather than a call to a ministry of the Gospel "as it has been taught."
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: Luke 11:49
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; Luke 11:50
From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. Luke 11:51
Woe unto you, lawyers (Doctors of the Law) for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. Luke 11:52
And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: Luke 11:53
Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him Luke 11:54
Scribes were letter and book writers. Pharisees took away the Word of God and INNOVATED their own doctrines specifically so that they would not have to listen to God's word. They made long performance prayers and stole the "church houses of widows."
Churches of Christ do not do that.
We noted of Believer's Baptism or Faith Only is ancient Pagan Baptism and that Zwingli bragged:
"In this matter of baptism -- if I may be pardoned for saying it -- I can only conclude that all the doctors have been in error from the time of the apostles. . . . All the doctors have ascribed to the water a power which it does not have and the holy apostles did not teach."[iii]
I. The light of nature showeth that there is a God, who hath lordship and sovereignty over all, is good, and doth good unto all, and is therefore to be feared, loved, praised, called upon, trusted in, and served, with all the heart, and with all the soul, and with all the might.
But the acceptable way of worshiping the true God is instituted by himself, and so limited by his own revealed will, that he may not be worshiped according to the imaginations and devices of men,
or the suggestions of Satan, under any visible representation, or any other way not prescribed in the Holy Scripture.
And Zwingli wanted to get rid of:
"traditional forms or ceremonies (added) simply on the ground that they were not actually forbidden by Scripture Commands Examples
Lutheran and Reformed (churches) had different approaches to the Scripture...
However, both groups repudiated self-composed songs and instrumental music. That was the PATTERN of the Bible based on the definition of the church as a School of the Bible.
Richard T. Hughes and C. Leonard Allen, Discovering our Roots: Does the Bible provide a complete blueprint for all time, laying out the details of church government, forms of worship, and rules for behavior? Or does it rather provide a central core of saving truth, leaving many of the details to human discretion and changing circumstances of time and place?"
Certainly: the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness was practiced parallel to the curse of the sacrificial system, was endorsed by Jesus and commanded by the word ekklesia. Because that is equivalent to the Greek word "synagogue" we know that it was a WORD ONLY service and "there was never a praise service in the synagogue." There was no further expounding of Scripture which Peter outlawed as "private interpretation." The Lord's Supper was a teaching activity and has Biblical authority for the first day of the week where giving, preaching or singing has no Biblical or early historical authority.
There is no CULTURAL evolution which can change the RESOURCE to be taught by all who are disciples.
The conservatives speal of PATTERNS but those with degrees speak of PARADIGMS: get the joke. Scripture DOES supply some patters. If it supplies NO PATTERN then that is a pattern which no one in history is willing to accept and was NOT invented by churches of Christ. Some things are ETERNAL and does not change with time. If things are permitted to change with circumstances then why all of the babble about being historyless?
"Scholars" gag on "blueprint" because the have discovered "paradigms." The CORE ISSUE which those who usually bite the hands of those that feed them is to whittle down EVERYTHING so that they can ADD instrumental music. However, Neither Allen or Hughes can find anything about music AS worship which does not point to perverted religionism.
Luther discussing Romans 15 which denounces music or "that which pleases" or any human innovation.
6. Now, the circumstance Paul here speaks of has long since passed, and the law of Moses concerning meats, drinks, apparel, place, and so on, is no longer pertinent;
yet another has been introduced in its stead, causing even greater trouble, and Paul's doctrine an this point is more necessary now than then.
There is today established by the Pope and the clergy a world-wide system of human devices in regard to meats and drinks, apparel and place, days and seasons, persons and orders, customs and performances,
so elaborate that one can scarce eat a morsel, drink a drop, or open his eyes even, but there is a law concerning the act.
Thus is [32] our liberty usurped. Particularly is it true in convents and cloisters, where it is unanimously contended that we must be clothed and shorn in a certain way, must conduct ourselves by certain rules, and must not eat this meat, drink that drink, and so on, lest we sin by disobedience.
There obedience to human doctrines has been exalted to the point of highest esteem. The monks and nuns regard it the foundation, the corner-stone, of their religion, and base upon it their souls' salvation.
7. No one will open his eyes to the fact that mere human devices and doctrines are ensnaring souls, weakening consciences, dissipating Christian liberty and faith, and replenishing hell.
Wolves! wolves! How abominably, awfully, murderous, how harassing and destructive, are these things the world over! This matter of obedience to human doctrine has never been agitated sufficiently to discover weak consciences.
No one has opposed in word or act the teachings harmful to them. Whosoever has deviated from the doctrines has been condemned, and denounced as an apostate, a roving monk, an abandoned Christian.
Thus forcibly have the sheep not only been enfeebled, but driven into the jaws of the wolf. Oh, the wrath, the indignation, the displeasure, of the Divine Majesty!
8. If now, by the mercy of God, these papistical doctrines should be recognized as merely human,
as false and assumed,
things God has not commanded;and if some were to have courage enough to depart from custom in the matter of masses, prayers, garb, meats, and to maintain their Christian liberty according to the Gospel, the two classes referred to would take offense.
35. But how shall I express the situation? The calamity is beyond the power of words, even inconceivable.
The evil spirit has accomplished his design; he has suppressed the Book and introduced in its stead so many books of human doctrine that we may well say we are deluged with them. Yet these contain only error, falsehood, darkness, venom, death, destruction, hell and the devil. This condition of things our abominable ingratitude has merited.
Leonard Allen - Richard Hughes: "Luther believed that Zwingli's insistence on making scripture the exclusive norm for the entire life of the church, including its forms of worship, turned gospel into a new legalism (p. 28).
I am not sure where they got that evidence (?). However, if true, it would contradict everything else Luther wrote about the use of the BIBLE ONLY for faith and practice.
There is no more marked manifestation of God's wrath than the fact that he permits the decline of his spoken and written Word; so not undesignedly the apostle uses the particular language of this prayer.
On the other hand, God gives no greater blessing than when he exalts his Word among us and permits it to be read. Truly, then, we should all repeat this prayer with the apostle.
But how shall there be with us honor and praise of God, true service to him, when we neither love him nor receive his blessings? And how shall we love him when we do not know him and his blessings?
And how shall we know him and his blessings when no word is preached concerning them and when the Gospel is left to lie under the table?
Where the Gospel is not in evidence, knowledge of God is an impossibility.
Then to love and praise him is likewise impossible. As a further consequence it is necessarily impossible for divine service to exist.
Even if all the choristers were one chorister, all the priests one priest, all the monks one monk, all the churches one church, all the bells one bell; in brief if all the foolish services offered to God in the institutions,
Richard T. Hughes and C. Leonard Allen, Discovering our Roots: : "excluded all audible music from the Christian assembly," as where a strong commitment to restoration can take a body of people (p. 27).
What Allen and Hughes cannot grasp is that Paul spoke of SPEAKING or TEACHING with "that which is written" where there is no concept or rationale for MUSIC in ceremonial legalism. Because the church is EKKLESIA or synagogue or "school of the Bible" why would any professor think it strange enough to demean a man who could grasp that "music" had no role to play in the ASSEMBLY which is defined by "synagogue" type words and the unique worship word was to "give heed to the Word."
It would logically come as a surprise to a Doctor of the Law who are Christ- condemned for "taking away the key to knowledge" that the MUSIC word is never used in the Bible to speak of the worship of a Spirit God. It would also come as a surprize that the Bible from Genesis to Revelation connects "music" with Satan and the end-time Babylon whore.
From Summa Theologica by Aquinas
Objection 2: Further, Jerome in his commentary on Eph. 5:19, "Singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord," says: "Listen, young men whose duty it is to recite the office in church: God is to be sung not with the voice but with the heart.
Nor should you, like play-actors, ease your throat and jaws with medicaments, and make the church resound with theatrical measures and airs." Therefore God should not be praised with song.
Reply to Objection 2: Jerome does not absolutely condemn singing, but reproves those who sing theatrically in church not in order to arouse devotion, but in order to show off, or to provoke pleasure. Hence Augustine says (Confess. x, 33): "When it befalls me to be more moved by the voice than by the words sung, I confess to have sinned penally, and then had rather not hear the singer."
Paul commands in Romans 15, Ephesians 5 and Colossians that the ACT is called speaking which is PREACHING. The method is one to another and the singing and melody are IN THE HEART. This was a method of teaching the Biblical text and not a MUSICAL ACT OF WORSHIP.
"One of the developments in which Beza was of great assistance was in Reformed psalmody. Zwingli had opposed music in public worship and it was a century or so after his death before the Reformed Churches in which his influence was strong departed from that precedent.
Calvin did not go as far as Zwingli, but confined the use of music to congregational singing in unisonof metrical versions of the Psalms and Canticles." (Latourette, p. 760).
Calvin vocally condemned instrumental music. Therefore the false writers today don't speak the truth by claiming that NOT using instruments divides churches. Calvin RESTORED congregational singing which had always existed in churches which called themselves "the church of Christ." Calvin comments on Romans 15 to prove that the church is not a WORSHIP CENTER but a synagogue or school of the Bible.

While condemning churches of Christ for using the LAW OF SILENCE they intentionally or ignorantly lie. Churches of Christ do not use instruments because Paul defined a way of making melody IN THE HEART which is singing WITH GRACE in the heart. Literate scholars knew that music was instituted by Satan or Lucifer even in the garden of Eden. They know that MUSIC is implicated in every failure among the Israelites. It always tells God: "We will not listen to YOUR words."
They know that universal church history condemns music. Therefore, there is no silence but a LOUD SHOUT which condemns MAKING MUSIC to a Spirit God. On the other hand, the instrumentalists say: "God HATH NOT said 'thou shalt not use instruments' therefore even if it sows discord among the literates, we gonna do it."
Therefore Zwingli wanted to get rid of FORMS AND CEREMONIES which had been added based on the LAW OF SILENCE.
In this they imply that this is the natural end of those who insist on restoring the faith and worship of the early church.
It is popular for the non-literate to claim that the father of the church of Christ and that his religion infused a purely rationalistic, non-Biblical approach to faith and practice. Once a lie is told in the scholarly circuit others must repeat the same lie or they will not get an A on their report card or issued a wet sheep skin.
Leonard Allen - Richard Hughes: "..the Common Sense (school of philosophy) perspectives rendered their (our restoration forefathers) emerging traditions essentially invisible, at least to themselves. When on occasion they recognized their traditions,
moreover, they viewed them as an essentially biblical, primitive, and apostolic and not in any sense the traditions of a particular people..." (p. 109-110).
The history of religion shows that most of not all reformers or restorers leaped all of the way back to when the seed was delivered and planted for authority in faith and practices. It is very common for the teams of discording writers to claim that Commands, Examples and Inferences was invented by subnormal members of the church of Christ and that God's silence must be respected.
"They labor to show that our movement was really only a product of social and political idealism prevalent in America in the late 18th and early 19th century; a quest for social and political freedom from the old European tyranny (p. 92) and from the tyranny of the old state churches." John Waddey
The totality of church history outside of the POPE'S right to make changes proves that EVERYONE believed that the church's faith and practice was based on the clear commands or examples of the Bible. So, it is a lie to claim that churches of Christ just made up the idea.
> We can prove that not using music or the works of human hands did not come from culture or tradition but a direct command NOT to use external instruments and a Bible filled with condemnation of them: they were introduced by Satan "and there is no other tradition."
> We can prove that baptism was ALWAYS for or in order to the remission of sins prior to ZWINGLI who confessed that He out of all historical scholars INVENTED faith only in 1525.
> Churches have always called themselves "the church of Christ" in every age.
> Churches of Christ are claimed to be "uniquely wrong" in understanding that the Old Testament is part of the "school of the Bible" but the rituals "added because of transgression" (musical idolatry at Mount Sinai) were not to be used in the church of Christ. This was almost universally held by church leaders. Only Catholics went back for the priesthood, Levitical singers and instrumental music. Click for the evidence and pictures.

in express words, to be necessary to salvation;I ask, I say, whether this be not more agreeable to the Church of Christ
than for men to impose their own inventions and interpretations upon others as if they were of Divine authority, and to establish by ecclesiastical laws, as absolutely necessary to the profession of Christianity, such things as the Holy Scriptures do either not mention, or at least not expressly command?
Whosoever requires those things in order to ecclesiastical communion,
which Christ does not require in order to life eternal, he may, perhaps, indeed constitute a society accommodated to his own opinion and his own advantage;but how that can be called the Church of Christ which is established upon laws that are not His, and which excludes such persons from its communion as He will one day receive into the Kingdom of Heaven, I understand not.
Imposed music has always EXCLUDED the owners of the property because the discorders KNOW that they will not remain. Furthermore, those who ADD instruments always outlawed anyone teaching the Truth under the lie that they would be "sowing discord." And so Restoration preachers were ALWAYS excluded when the instrumentalists STOLE THE CHURCH HOUSE OF WIDOWS.
David Hume, 1711-1776
It is important to not that a musical instrument is defined as "a machine for doing hard work in making war or for inducing the terror of religious ritual." Jesus died to remove the laded burden which is "spiritual anxiety created by religious ritual" and Paul outlawed SELF pleasure which is defined as "creation of mental excitement." All religionists know that music causes panic through the inducing of endorphins which create the impulse of fight, flight or sexuality. By exposing people to this MIND CONTROL pagan religionists know that they can extort people by being their "god handler." Hume knew that the SCHOLARS and PASTORS were the guilty ones and they are the only ones who prey upon their brand or rationality."These two species of false religion, though both pernicious, are yet of a very different, and even of a contrary nature. The mind of man is subject to certain unaccountable terrors and apprehensions, proceeding either from the unhappy situation of private or public affairs, from ill health, from a gloomy and melancholy disposition, or from the concurrence of all these circumstances.
In such a state of mind, infinite unknown evils are dreaded from unknown agents; and where real objects of terror are wanting, the soul, active to its own prejudice, and fostering its predominant inclination,
finds imaginary ones, to whose power and malevolence it sets no limits.
As these enemies are entirely invisible and unknown, the methods taken to appease them are equally unaccountable, and consist in ceremonies, observances, mortifications, sacrifices, presents, or in any practice, however absurd or frivolous,
which either folly or knavery recommends to a blind and terrified credulity. Weakness, fear, melancholy, together with ignorance, are, therefore, the true sources of SUPERSTITION.
But the mind of man is also subject to an unaccountable elevation and presumption, arising from prosperous success, from luxuriant health, from strong spirits, or from a bold and confident disposition.
In such a state of mind, the imagination swells with great but confused conceptions, to which no sublunary beauties or enjoyments can correspond. Every thing mortal and perishable vanishes as unworthy of attention.
And a full range is given to the fancy in the invisible regions or world of spirits, where the soul is at liberty to indulge itself in every imagination, which may best suit its present taste and disposition.
Hence arise raptures, transports, and surprising flights of fancy; and confidence and presumption still increasing, these raptures (rapes), being altogether unaccountable, and seeming quite beyond the reach of our ordinary faculties,
are attributed to the immediate inspiration of that Divine Being, who is the object of devotion.
Human reason was not based on the understanding of Scripture. Rather, when people come to believe that they are inspired they use their own feelings induced primarily today by "music" then they are using human reason.
In a little time, the inspired person comes to regard himself as a distinguished favourite of the Divinity; and when this frenzy once takes place, which is the summit of enthusiasm, every whimsy is consecrated:
Human reason, and even morality are rejected as fallacious guides:
And the fanatic madman delivers himself over, blindly, and without reserve, to the supposed illapses of the spirit, and to inspiration from above.
Hope, pride, presumption, a warm imagination, together with ignorance, are, therefore, the true sources of enthusiasm. (See Speaking in Tongues)
"Baptists, Mormons, Shakers and other RADICAL SECTS intended to restore primitive Christianity."
"No group uses the language of 'restoration" more consistently and more effectively than did the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or the Mormons" (p. 94).
A bit of John Calvin literacy 101aaa would prove that "restorationism" was the actual meaning of "reformation" to many. The Mormons had little connection with the Bible or ANY thought of restoring New Testament Christianity. Rather, their restoration goes deeply into Jewish practices. John Calvin went a long way toward RESTORATION and the Campbells would have continued the only reason for ANY group to exist. Because "theology" does not have that purpose and Jesus fired the "doctors of the Law" it comes as no surprise that they defacto constitute a "denomination" and their fellowship is mostly one with another.
John Calvin: The Necessity of Reforming the Church (1543) before Campbel or Mormons.
- A HUMBLE EXHORTATION
- SERIOUSLY TO UNDERTAKE THE TASK OF RESTORING THE CHURCH.
- PRESENTED IN THE NAME OF ALL THOSE WHO WISH CHRIST TO REIGN.
But there is no occasion for a long preface concerning myself. Receive what I say as you would do if it were pronounced by the united voice
of all those who either have already taken care to restore the Church, or are desirous that it should be restored to true order. -- that they strenuously oppose us in our attempt to restore this branch of divine worship.
The CORE GOSPEL sounds like it arrived from a Mormon. Joseph Smith had his "peepstones" to translate a NEW SCRIPTURE because he said with Rubel Shelly and probably postmodern scholars that the Bible "has been sifted through human philosophy and the Bible writers own persona agenda" so that only seven facts have survived with validity for faith and practices. The non-instrumental churches depend wholly on the Scriptures to repudiate charismatic practices such as MUSIC in which the professional musician believes that he is INSPIRED to replace the songs of the Word of God.
More Heglian (Machiavelli, Hitler, etc) SOWING DISCORD to make the ignorant believe that to Restore the Bible as the only basis for faith and practice is WHAT MORMONS do even better.
The scholars may or may not be aware that the Mormons wanted to RESTORE the church to the first century and RESTORE spiritual gifts and the ability to write a NEW SET OF SCRIPTURES. The CHANGE DISCORDERS follow the Mormon route.
The Restoration Movement wanted to restore the Bible as the unique teachings of Christ. There was NEVER any goal to restore ANY historical church of the Bible. Modern scholars and presumed prophets and apostles and chanellers want to restore exactly what the Mormons tried to restore.
When Sidney Rigdon had no success in getting Restoration churches to adopt the practice he joined with early Mormons who took over the church at Kirtland, Ohio--
Many would have fits of speaking in all of the Indian dialects which none could understand. Again at the dead hour of the night, young men might be seen running over the fields and hills in pursuit, as they said, of balls of fire, lights, etc.) (Jividen, Glossolalia, p. 84).
At Kirtland, Ohio, the place of the first temple, Brigham Young received the gift of tongues several weeks after his baptism while praying with some friends: 'The Spirit came on me, and I spoke in tongues,
and we thought only of the day of Pentecost.'
The Saints anxiously awaited the arrival and the verdict of their Prophet, Joseph Smith. When he came, he informed Young that his gift of tongues was the pure Adamic language.' Shortly thereafter, Smith himself received the gift. (Hamilton, p. 87).
Again, Hume would define the modern day apostles who reject the Bible for faith and practice, and believe that they have a postmodern revelation as using human reason:
"Human reason, and even morality are rejected as fallacious guides:
And the fanatic madman delivers himself over, blindly, and without reserve, to the supposed illapses of the spirit, and to inspiration from above.
Churches of Christ found evidence against instrumental music when the musical sectarians took over from the clear understanding of the Bible. Any human reasoning which cannot see the cover to cover rejection of external "music" as "spiritual" worship is blind to the Bible and human power to read and understand.
In the Campbell movement, mean like Allen would be more like Mormons than Christians.
Those individuals and churches which accepted
An 'experiential faith' based on visions, tongue speaking and feeling
Followed Sidney Rigdon into Mormonism.
It is but a short step from an 'experiential faith'
Based on subjective experiences into
The acceptance of latter-day revelations
like the Book of Mormon.Again, Hume rejects this practice which was repudiated by men like Alexander Campbell:
"Human reason, and even morality are rejected as fallacious guides: And the fanatic madman..."
Those within churches of Christ
Who might consider glossolalia experience a thing to be desired
Would do well to learn this lesson from history. Those who refuse to learn from history
Are destined to repeat it.The belief that a third person of the God family lives within and produces speaking in tongues and the belief that some are apostles has never been a part of the non-instrumental churches. It has always been among groups which also lust for all forms of music.
"They saw angels, Satan as an angel of light, angelic beings on horses jumped through the ceiling, they received the sword of Laban, they chased balls over the forests, they could tell the quality of angels by the color of their hair, tell if you were a demon by your handshake, letters came down from heaven, they screamed like panthers, a huge man turned somersaults, some kept Bowie knives under their pillows to keep Satan away, a steamboat well painted and filled with people who waved passed over the city, braying asses turned out to be Satan, Christ promised to come within 15 years, they wrestled with devils. A half-dozen girls swore on paper that they had seen the same angel and etc.
"He accused some of the speakers in tongues with stopping at a 'gin shop' on their way to meeting and arriving 'beastly drunk with whisky.' He recalled that 'one would jump up, put forth his arm, stretch out his neck, shut his eyes, and at the top of his voice begin a series of disjointed utterances. When he had finished, he collapsed, and, at his last 'fiz,' another arose to interpret."
"we do not want to follow any example ....we want the Word for the sake of which all works, examples, and miracles occur" (p. 120).
The latter day prophets and apostles NEED miracles. Why? Why because miracles were a SIGN that a person was ordained by God to reveal spiritual truth. But, Luther said:
This is plainly evident; like a rich prince may give a treasure to one knave through another knave. Hence we are not to build upon miraculous signs nor upon the example of the multitude,
........... but alone upon the teachings of Christ, or of his apostles, in this and all cases. That is exactly the MORMON RESTORATION. Rubel Shelly has NEW GLASSES which must be like those of PEEP STONE JOSEPH SMITH through which he (and our discorders) has received a NEW VISION FOR THE CHURCH OF CHRIST.
Max Lucado visits Don Finto where "Rusty" speaks in tongues;
"Kalla ma sone, da fa kooka shores. It kin da la key la shone da la kene (his voice becomes hoarse and is reduced to an indistinguishable whisper). Bear fose sone ta wentta lone (voice trails off into a whisper again). Da lotta tongue de cush&endash;a&endash;wong do so coo toe. Ah shon da ba she dees ... O. Lord, your good ... Gash a la mon sewer. El ah ma she sa (more whispering). Fa kon a la ma dorman begetta see de so lawsuit.."
And this plagues the Band of "scholars" trying to destroy that which they are not permitted by God to remotely understand. Therefore, ala postmodern, throw away the OLD and get a new vision just like the Momorns: A FRESH LOOK at the Bible presuming superiority over 2,000 years of scholarship.
"And again I speak unto you who deny the revelations of God, and say that they are done away, that there are no revelations, nor prophecies, nor gifts, nor healing, nor speaking with tongues, and the interpretation of tongues; behold I say unto you, he that denieth these things knoweth not the gospel of Christ." (Book of Mormon, Mormon 9:7-8a).
"Even believer's baptism, acknowledged by practically all Stoneites as apostolic, was simply left to the discretion of the individual."
Lucky the Church of Christ existed long before Stone and his preachers accepted baptism: about the only think in common was that Stone appealed to Scripture Only and was in love with UNITY and said that "doctrine" should be ignored.
Any Stoneites or Baptists or Professors who believe that "BELIEVER'S BAPTISM" was apostolic have ignored 1525 years of church history. Zwingli INVENTED Faith Only and Believer's Baptism by TAKING A FRESH LOOK AT THE BIBLE.
That is also because Stone was a BAPTIST. The Baptists and Methodist used the UNITY of Cane Ridge to proselyte members for their church. That is the MEANING of being ecumenical. This did not continue for those who understood that Baptist "believer's baptism" was pagan baptism simply MADE UP by Zwingli as a Early Day Saint.
Believer's baptism is related to FAITH ONLY which was invented by Zwingli in 1525. He assures us that the first 1500 years no one understood FAITH ONLY. This was quite identical to ancient PAGAN BAPTISM.
The change agenda is just warmed over Baptist dogma. That is why they want to use Stone as their APPROVED EXAMPLE to preach "Believer's Baptism." Believer's Baptism means Baptized BECAUSE you are predestinated to be saved, have been given faith without the gospel preached, manifest some supernatural sign, become legalists and go back through the law, have the church ACCEPT you as a member and be baptized as a SIGN that you are pledged, in Lucado's idea, "to be a good boy."
But Stone was a Baptist and the PROFESSORS are intentionally preaching Baptist Dogma.
"Until 1820 the small Christian movement grew slowly, with its greatest strength in Ohio and Kentucky, but with a scattering of small congregations in Tennessee and Indiana.... He (Stone) early became a baptist but would not make proper baptism a condition of membership.
But by 1820 the movement was clearly baptist, and Stone was able to persuade several small Baptist associations to affiliate with Christian,
........... no major doctrines, but only the issue of names, separated many freewill Baptists from Stone.By 1820, as Stone indulged in more doctrinal controversies with Presbyterian critics, he elaborated a rather consistent free-will, or complete atonement, profile of beliefs, with a unique conception of faith. He used the word faith for simple belief in the gospel message." (Conkin, p. 146)
Stone was a BAPTIST so why should he be used to PROVE by false witness that Stone is PROOF that we, too, should accept fellowship (leadership) with those who did not believe in baptism. A cruel hoax.
The Stoneite movement was not part of the Restoration. They joined Campbell simply because the Stone preachers believed what Alexander Campbell taught about Baptism and other things. Stone had nothing to do with that except teach false doctrine about charismatic exercises and baptism. however, he understood what had happened as a DESTRUCTIVE event not unlike earlier witchcraft AWAKENINGS:
"We have seen this state of things continue but a short time, and then disappear for years. We have seen many of these converts soon dwindle, sicken and die, and become more hardened against the fear of God, than they were before--
many of them becoming infidels, by thinking that all professors of religion are like themselves deluded by strong passion and imagination."...
All must acknowledge that some good results from such revivals; but all must acknowledge that great evil also rose out of them. Those, who were under strong affections, believed they were born of God, and who made a public confession of faith, and fell from it, are of all people in the most pitiable situation, seldom do they ever after embrace religion--these by their example, discourage others, and fill their minds with prejudices against religion." (Stone, Barton Warren, The Christian Messenger, Vol. VII, No. 7, July, 1833, pages 210-212--See Randall p. 390, for the complete letter).
In Alabama they discovered that the FANATICAL or charismatic activity which made people BELIEVE for the moment had no effect. Once Baptism was preached there it was just obvious to Bible students that Baptism only gives one the assurance that they have been saved.
"I admit that some enthusiasm and even fanaticism did prevail. But as respects that, brother Stone was clear. He was faithful, zealous, and spiritual; yet sober and temperate, holding fast the faithful word. Some talked of extraordinary views and spiritual illuminations. I mentioned that matter to Stone--
"He replied--'I cannot rely on any teaching from God, otherwise than through his word.'" (Biography, p. 122).
"... need we wonder at the exhibition of this spirit in the wildest forms of fanaticism among the more ignorant on camp-meeting occasions and others, where such spirit is encouraged and sought after?"
"In view then of the fanatical, bitter, and censorious spirit which associates itself with these bodily agitations, and is highly promotive of them, the writer is decidedly opposed to them." (Rogers, Stone Biography, p. 383).
The End of the Stone Restoration Movement in The South
"No Christian churches long survived in Tennessee, their cause was ruined in Kentucky and never has regained its former strength or prestige... Of the Southern Ohio Christians a majority of the preachers embraced Campbellism prior to 1837, and only about one thousand church members remained." (Jenning, Walter W., Origin and Early History of the Disciples of Christ, p. 197, Standard).
As soon as Campbell's students began to preach, all of the churches accepted the clear Biblical and historical belief that baptism was necessary for salvation. Therefore, the Anti- church movers fail to tell the whole truth or even part of the truth because it fits their AGENDA.
"Primitivism" is one of those RACA words which defines the CENI principle supported by all historic scholars and founders of denominations.
Stoneites' primitivism equally stressed the hastening of the millennial kingdom of God...(they) were convinced that the millennium was near" (p. 105).
Dr. Richard T. Hughes of Pepperdine University has given us, "Reclaiming a Heritage; Reflections on the Heart, Soul and Future of Churches of Christ." However, there was little connection between the Stonites religion which, in its birth at Cane Ridge, was more akin to devil worship.
The Stoneites were never truly part of the Restoration Movement of the Campbells and others.
Of course, a heritage means a tradition.
"The destruction of the apocalyptic vision (includes premillennialism) severely weakened both the restoration vision and the counter cultural dimensions of Churches of Christ ..." (p. 116).
The millennial views are the DOMINANT CULTURAL views of most of the denominations. If the Restoration continued to believe that Jesus Christ FAILED the first time, did not establish His Kingdom, was defeated, high-tailed it back to heaven and is mustering strength in order to give it another try, then it WOULD NOT be counter cultural. However it is totally false that Alexander Campbell subscribed to any of the "theories" and explicitely rejected the near coming of Christ. True Jews have always detested Chriatian Zionism which seeks to restore Israel to Europeans with little to no Semitic connection.
If this is all Dispensationalism was about it could be easily ignored as the speculative fantasies of a fringe movement of American Protestantism. But a central part of Apocalyptic theology is the belief that the events signaling the End are inextricably bound up with the creation, expansion and continued existence of the modern state of Israel. This gives these beliefs a political focus, sometimes dangerously so.
William J. Nottingham Global Ministries.
"My point here is that the first missionary society was the product of a long and intense process which generated considerable soul-searching. There were shared biblical principles and at the same time fundamental differences in theological opinion. Disagreement grew
concerning congregational ecclesiology,
commonality in mission with other Christians,
and also perhaps communion of the Holy Spirit.
This tension would eventuate in separate bodies and institutions of the 20th and 21st centuries. [Disciples and NACC] A full appreciation is probably hidden from us in the distance from ante-bellum times. But the nature of the Bible's authority,
the relatively new idea of the autonomy of the local congregation,
and the centrality of millennialist eschatology for these men and women,
with men doing most of the writing which is left to us, seem to me to be mysteries that can only be observed from different angles and rarely entered into existentially by later generations like our own.
This is evidenced in the decisions concerning missionaries growing out of this fervor leading up to the Cincinnati convention: Dr. and Mrs. James T. Barclay were the first. It was in their parlor in Washington, D.C., 1843, that the congregation had been organized which became the Vermont Avenue Church and in 1930 the National City Christian Church.
They went to Jerusalem, not because of Acts 1:8 "beginning with Jerusalem" as a popular Disciples legend has it, but because it was taken for granted by Alexander Campbell and his followers that the Jews were to be converted before the return of Christ.
That was a false assumption: the Millenial Harbinger's major thrust was not to SUPPORT Millerism but to defeat it. Campbell denies that Jesus will return to Canaan. Because the Church of Christ did not believe in William E. Miller [Ellen G. White]. You will notice that it was the Disciples who were tilted by Miller.
The title of Campbell's journal proclaimed clearly the eschatology of the pre-Civil War spirituality, so neglected in our denominational memory by scholars and theologians since then.
Notice that Campbell spoke of THE PROTESTANT THEORY: not his because he speaks where the Bible speaks and insists on a NEW HEAVEN and a NEW EARTH and that you could not convert people after the literal earth was burned up.
In the Millennial Harbinger of 1841,
we read in what is called The Protestant Theory:
"The Millennium, so far as the triumphs of Christianity is concerned, will be a state of greatly enlarged and continuous prosperity, in which the Lord will be exalted and his divine spirit enjoyed in an unprecedented measure. All the conditions of society will be vastly improved; wars shall cease, and peace and good will among men will generally abound. The Jews will be converted, and the fullness of the Gentiles will be brought into the kingdom of the Messiah."
The founding of the American Christian Missionary Society cannot be separated from the millennialist eschatology of the period
The Disciples followed the Millerites: not Campbell.
nor from the pragmatism which required a foreign dimension to keep pace with other denominations or to outgrow them! D.S. Burnet's book The Jerusalem Mission and Dr. Barclay's book The City of the Great King make this clear, along with speeches and articles by various leaders like Isaac Errett. Barclay wrote in a journal The Christian Age:
"The ACMS...resolved...
to make the first offer of salvation to Israel. . .
for the salvation of the Jews...
for upon the conversion and resumption of Israel
is unquestionably suspended the destruction of Antichrist
and the salvation of the world."
The rise of this heresy which insists that Jesus utterly failed in His First Advent but with a little help from His friends (unity meetings, Tulsa, Jubilee etal) they PLANNED to be ecumenical and following the Pope's call for Jubilee 2000 to MAKE IT POSSIBLE for Jesus to have His SECOND ADVENT without failing AGAIN.
Joel's Army was part of this and people enlisted to hand out rewards and destroy the non-converts. The Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to one priest and said that she would return and KILL all of the Masons and Pagans.
Campbell denied that there could be a millenium fitted in between Miller's prophecy (and the Disciples belief), the conversion of the Jews and the DATE SET by Miller.
But, bless their heart they tried to do Jesus' work for Him. Guess it was worth SECTING OFF the real Campbell. You should understand that Alexander Campbell taught that the The Kingdom of God. came on the day of Pentecost. On the Second Coming of Christ Alexander Campbell wrote:
VI. To those who oppose the [already] literal interpretation of the passages in Scripture which refer to the approaching Advent of our Lord, it must appear singular, that there is not in the Gospels or Epistles the slightest reference to such a period of peace and purity, as the Old Testament prophecies everywhere represent, as still to be enjoyed on earth.
Campbell teaches about a NEW heaven and earth.
Meanwhile, we offer the following question to the consideration of our brethren:--If our Lord personally appear before the Millennium, what will the Millennium be, and where shall it be found? And if, according to Mr. Miller and some others, more imaginative than learned in prophecy, this event shall be within a few years; how shall all the promises and prophecies concerning Jew and Gentile be fulfilled? Do they all simply mean the resurrection and the glorification of the saints at the coming of the Lord! ! A hint is enough at present. We have many such to offer in their proper season.
If the coming of the Lord be soon--within the present century, for example--then there will be no Millennium or triumph of Christianity over its various rivals now in the field. They will rather have triumphed over it. However much real Christians desire the return of their Master, there are few of them, I think, who would not desire his gospel to have a freer circulation and a more triumphant career in the world than it has ever yet had, before the last act of the drama of human existence on this present earth is finished.
In this case, too, "the kingdom, and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven," has not been given according to promise, to the people of the Most High, and very many such promises have failed. This we can not yet believe.
Again, false teachers are slandering Campbell to attempt to prove that the Restoration Movement was folly.
The cultural view was premillennialism
The Counter Cultural view repudiated any millennialism in a literal sense of Jesus ruling in Jerusalem which is called Sodom.
"Written primarily to give hope to religious groups undergoing persecution or the stress of cultural upheavals, apocalypses (from the Greek apokalypsis: "revelation") describe in cryptic language, understood by believers, the sudden, DRAMATIC INTERVENTION of God in history on behalf of the faithful elect. Accompanying or heralding God's dramatic intervention in human affairs will be cataclysmic events of cosmic proportions, such as a temporary rule of the world by Satan, signs in the heavens, persecutions, wars, famines, and plagues.
"Although apocalyptic writers do examine the present, determining whether current afflictions are fulfillments of past apocalyptic prophecies, such writers generally concentrated on the future--on the future overthrow of evil,
on the coming of a messianic figure, and on the establishment of the Kingdom of God and of eternal peace and righteousness.
The wicked are described as consigned to hell and the righteous or elect as reigning with God or a messiah in a renewed earth or heaven. The "now but not yet kingdom" of Kung and Rubel Shelly feeds on the view that certain prophetic or channeling figures who THEMSELVES must bring about the kingdom by "burning down old structures" and "destroying old wineskins" so that the kingdom and Gospel can FINISH bubbling.
Therefore, those specifically branded as anti-instrumentalists are decadent and deleterious. That means rotten and destructive. Therefore, they are labeled as uniquely among the masses of so-called Christendom as needing to be DESTROYED:
"For many in our churches today, the restoration vision is a dead-end street, an essentially useless category" (p. 121).
"And so we are left with no useful past, no clear identity, and no meaningful legacy. Essentially we are spiritual orphans" (p. 122).Sounds like wishful thinking or a Hegeling (Machiavellian) effort to dissociate people into schizophrenia to convince them that YOU ARE FAILURES and YOU had better follow our Change Agenda. They all do it: it is part of the agreed-upon mantra of the postmodern scam.
WE HAVE REVIEWED SOME OF THE STATEMENTS IN THIS BOOK AND FIND THAT IT IS "SCHOLARS FEEDING ON SCHOLARS FEEDING ON SCHOLARS." In using Martin Luther as their proof-father they have the postmodern power to make Luther lie about Luther.
The First and Second Great Awakening had been fueled by Whitefield who was trained in THE THEATER. The same superstitious belief which surrounded the turn of the 20th century surrounded the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th century. Y2K as in the Jubilee had no meaning unless there was a Pope- inspired belief that Christ would return. However, most people are aware that the premillennial view believes that Christ utterly failed at His First Advent. Therefore, the Second Advent will be what Bible Believers think happened at the First Advent.
In earlier centuries the AWAKENING would have been considered WITCHCRAFT and Layard writing about the same ritual in Iraq identified is as DEVIL WORSHIP. Stoneites do not represent the church of Christ but the Christian Church.
At Y2K those claiming to be prophets or apostles or Christs in churches of Christ fell into the identical plague of the end of the millennium. They flaunt THE HOLINESS OF SIN.
Under Oliver Cromwell after 1649 there was "an outbreak of apocalyptic excitement in England."
"Cohn argues that extremist Christian sects in Cromwell's England, such as the Quakers, the Levelers and the Ranters, were a revival of the fourteenth-century heresy of the Free Spirit... it was a popular version of the philosophical pantheism that would shortly be expounded by Spinoza...
None of these revulsionary sects really believed that they owed their salvation to the atonement wrought by the historical Jesus.
The Christ who mattered to them was a presence diffused through the members of the community which was virtually indistinguishable from the Holy Spirit.
All agreed that prophecy was still the prime means of approaching God and that direct inspiration by the Spirit was superior to the teaching of the established religion." (Armstrong, p. 320).
See Rubel Shelly and John York on the Group Mind rejecting your right to read, interpret and speak the Bible outside of the community or commune.
Rubel Shelly and John York: Prior to the invention of the printing press, access to the content of Scripture was oral.
For thousands of years it could only be heard and interpreted in the context of community.
Yes, INDIVIDUALS could comment on Scripture, but those comments were always for the LARGER hearing of the community.
Only after there was INDIVIDUAL access did there become an opportunity for an individual, isolated reading and interpretation that had no need or use for community.
THE HOLINESS OF SINS: BREAKING THE RULES OF THEIR CHURCH WAS A SIGN OF PEOPLE ON THE EDGE OF INSANITY.
"The Ranters deliberately broke Christian taboos in their libertarian creed and blasphemously claimed that there was no distinction between God and man... in the self-exaltation of the Ranters or the Inner Light of the Quakers it is possible to see an aspiration that was similar to that expressed a century later by the French revolutanaries who enthroned the Goddess of Reason in the Pantheon."
One of the mantras of the premillennialists and the NOW BUT NOT YET KINGDOM is that God is establishing a NEW WINESKIN to house a new phase of His Kingdom big enough to contain ALL professed Christians in one big rubber wineskin:
"Several of the Ranters claimed to be the Messiah, a reincarnation of God, who was to establish the new kingdom. The accounts that we have of their lives suggest mental disorder in some cases... William Franklin, a respectable householder, became mentally ill in 1646 after his family had been smitten by plague. He horrified his fellow Christians by declaring himself to be God and Christ, but later recanted and begged pardon. He seemed to be in full possession of his faculties, but he still left his wife and began to sleep with other women... Mary Gadbury began to see visions and hear voices, prophesying a new social order which would abolish all class distinctions." (A History of God, Karen Armstrong, p. 321)
"As the years passed, Campbell and his followers...increasingly accepted unity in pluralistic diversity and subtly downplayed a strict adherence to the restoration ideal" (p. 109).
That is absolutey untrue: The Lunenberg correspondence is often used to prove that Alexander Campbell accepted all groups. If, he says, there are Christians (upper case Christians) among the sects then they should COME OUT OF BABYLON.
He worked within the Baptists originally but converted many of them to His views.
He opposed instrumental music and refused to preach until the organist retired. All of the "scholars" quote other scholars. Undoubtedly Hughes quotes Leroy Garrett who hallucinates that the Restoration Movement got its start when Alexander Campbell was left to teach young girls in Ireland while most of the adults were off to the city to earn a living. However, these people--as an acceptable scholarly concept--collect what fits their thesis, ignore anything which does not fit and blindly perverts whatever conflicts.
The Lunenberg Letters: proving that the good doctors are historyless:
Some of our brethren seem to think that we have neutralized much that has been said on the importance of baptism for remission, and disarmed them of much of their artillery against the ignorance, error, and indifference of the times upon the whole subject of Christian duty and Christian privilege.
Skipping ahead:
I. With all despatch, then, I hasten to show that I have neither conceded nor surrendered any thing for which I ever contended; but that on the contrary, the opinion now expressed, whether true or false, is one that I have always avowed.
(Footnote in original reads: It is with us as old as baptism for the remission of sins, and this is at least as old as the "Christian Baptist." Read the first two numbers of that work.
1. Let me ask, in the first place, what could mean all that we have written upon the union of Christians on apostolic grounds, had we taught that all Christians in the world were already united in our own community?
2. And in the second place, why should we so often have quoted and applied to apostate Christendom what the Spirit saith to saints in Babylon--"Come out of her, my people , that you partake not of her sins, and that you receive not of her PLAGUES"--had we imagined that the Lord had no people beyond the pale of our communion!
3. But let him that yet doubts, read the following passages from the Christian Baptist, April, 1825:--
"I have no idea of seeing, nor wish to see, the SECTS UNITE in one grand army.
This would be dangerous to our liberties and laws. For this the Saviour did not pray.Campbell goes on to say that to FAIL to preach baptism based on the assumption that there were people saved in the "sects" would make one totally unfaithful
It is only the disciples dispersed among them that reason and benevolence would CALL THEM OUT OF THEM, "&c. &c. This looks very like our present opinion of Christians among the sects!!! 2d ed. Bethany, p. 85.
I think that was Rubel Shelly who said "Unity in Diversity" and not Campbell. Campbell may have initially been instrumental in the trend to organize, one doubts that he intended to UNIT with those who repudiated Baptism or Instrumental Music. Those diversities promoted "among the scholars" is not tolerable by him. It is a fact that the Christian church "adopted" both Campbell and his song book after his death.
I think our writers are saying Unity in DENOMINATIONAL differences. However, THEY have to determine the validity of the PLURALISTIC DIVERSITY and they just become a BIGGER SECT because not everyone will be so enthusiastic about joining their J. H. Garrison- like denomination large enough hold ALL of Christendom.
They cite no proof because PROPHETS need no proof. However, just making junk up out of the head is not very scholarly and we can show that it IS A FALSEHOOD.
Before Campbell many believed that the Bible was a grab bag: just dip into it anywhere and the teachings fit the Christian dispensation. They were like modern, professional students but never coming to a knowledge of the truth, failed to realize that the Reformers clearly grasped that you could not lift the ANIMAL BURNING LOUD MUSIC (SOUND) and apply it to the Christian dispensation. That would mean falling from grace.
I have reviewed a sermon by Milton Jones as the Anti-church movement took over the church house of widows in Seattle. On No Dispensational Distinction. When these people brag about degrees it is obvious that they are over 1150F.
Alexander Campbell on open fellowship.
After speaking then of the corruptions of Christianity in the perversion of the ordinances of baptism, the Lord's Supper, the Lord's day, preaching, etc.,
he inquires if it is not probable that the ordinances of prayer and praise have likewise been perverted.
"How many disciples of Moses," he exclaims, "are yet to be found in the professed school of Jesus Christ!
and how few among the teachers of the New Testament seem to know that Christ's ministers are not able ministers of the Old Testament, but of the New!
- He said that there had been perversion in
- Baptism,
- The Lord's Supper
- The Lord's Day
- Preaching
- And probably
- Prayer and Praise had been Perverted
- (and) The use of the Old Testament.
Who can believe that Campbell believed in unity in pluralistic diversity?
Do they not, like scholars to their teacher, run to Moses to prove forms of worship, ordinances, discipline, and government in the Christian Church, when asked to account for their practice?
On this subject, I think we may rest satisfied, that since the great Prophet has come, whom to refuse or disobey is death, who is a faithful son over his own house,
........... that all worship and forms of worship, ordinances, discipline, and government
........... belonging to the Christian Church, must be learned exclusively from the New Testament. And every appeal made to Moses or the prophets to confirm any form of worship, ordinance, or any part of Christian discipline or government
........... is sending Christ the Son to Moses the servant to be instructed.
........... It is a perverse impeachment of the wisdom, goodness and care of the Church's head."Editor's Note: However clear their convictions had become as to the primitive method of confessing Christ, and the primitive faith and order of the Church, they had too fresh a recollection of their own struggles and difficulties in attaining to the views they held, and too deep a [454] sympathy with the pious but priest-ridden members of other communities, to refuse to recognize them as being intentionally at least, followers of Christ.
As they could not, however, make any compromise with the corrupt systems and practices of the day,
and were prevented by their principles from recognizing fraternally any one who had not publicly complied with the requisitions of the gospel, they were necessarily inhibited from inviting any except the actual members of the church to take a part in religious exercises.
One doubt that the writers knows of a pro-instrumental (Mark of Baal: Luther) who practices unity in pluralistic diversity to the extent that the UNITY extends to preaching, teaching a class or teaching the truth that "there is no other tradition" but that INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC was introduced by DEMONS.
Those who confiscate the church houses of non-instrumentalists WILL NOT let the old owners preach or teach what the Bible says. Therefore, the HOSTILE RESTORERS OF PAGANISM are Hypocrites because THEY will let YOU attend but they will not FELLOWSHIP you as a participant. Nor will any Baptist allow you to fellowship in the sense of preaching baptism. The clear fact is that by riding on the backs of a church which has no roles for professionals, they sicken of themselves before they sicken over what THEY preach and have corrupted. The emotionally-disturbed or frustrated child will bite his own arm.
That identifies those who blast away about OPEN FELLOWSHIP as dishonest. They will fellowship ONLY THOSE who will let them DOMINATE.
This was specially true with regard to the Lord's Supper, which they continued to celebrate weekly, and of which none but baptized believers were invited to partake.
It was not, however, the custom of the church, nor has it ever been that of any of the Churches of the Reformation, to
"fence the tables," as sectarians express and practice it;
or to withhold the symbols from any pious person who might be present and feel disposed to unite in commemorating the death of Christ. [455]The church of Christ was unique and is still so in allowing non members to commune.
One doubt that the writers knows of a pro-instrumental who practices unity in pluralistic diversity to the extent that they would allow one to preach or teach on the weekly Lord's Supper.
Therefore, it would be dishonest to claim that Campbell ever agreed that a Baptist could preach on baptism or a professional musician be the WORSHIP LEADER. This means that to accuse churches of Christ with the common sense practice of all groups is rank hypocrisy.
"..the Common Sense (school of philosophy) perspectives rendered their (our restoration forefathers) emerging traditions essentially invisible, at least to themselves. When on occasion they recognized their traditions, moreover, they viewed them as an essentially biblical, primitive, and apostolic and not in any sense the traditions of a particular people..." (p. 109-110).
Like Zwingi, all who came before Hughes was blind and not able to see that the restored practices were just TRADITIONS. Richard Hamm speaking for the Disciples of Christ claims ownership for "traditionalism" and "common sense taught by John Locke."
Other Disciples of Christ claimed ownership of the Law of Sillence.
The writers DO NOT KNOW what they thought unless they wrote. Just like all free people they returned to the Bible for faith and practice. They REPUDIATED sprinkling and demanded immersion because that was what they read in the Bible. They had to REJECT all of the COMMON SENSE which said that where and how much water was applied did not matter. They REPUDIATED common sense and returned to the FACTUAL teaching of the Bible. I think that the writers know that but it does not fit their agenda.
The NEVER accepted musical worship based on the Bible and most of church history. Common sense said "we can attract more customers at the Cathedral trade fair if we have professional musicians come and play an organ." Faithful churches and the Catholic Encyclopedia knew that this was BIBLICAL and common sense was wrong. The writers know that!
They rejected the common sense approach to the Lord's Supper which said, sure each week has a first day but COMMON SENSE says that if we do it QUARTERLY it will be MORE IMPRESSIVE. The writers know that!
Oh yes, men like John Locke is claimed by people who have NEVER READ John Locke that churches of Christ got their religion out of their RATIONALISTIC BRAIN. However, SPIRITUAL or FAITH BASED practices depend on the Bible without trying to be rationalistic. On the contrary, Anti- Christians believe that COMMON SENSE allows them to just improvise. We will point them to some John Locke reading to grasp that he is LIED ABOUT for the convenience of the change agents who know that most people will not know when they are lying. However, their friend, Martin Luther wrote:
12. Now, we know ourselves to be of the same clay whereof they are made; indeed, we perhaps have the greater call from God:
yet we cannot boast of being capable of ourselves to advise or aid men. We cannot even originate an idea calculated to give help.
And when it comes to the knowledge of how one may stand before God and attain to eternal life, hat is truly not to be achieved by our work or power, nor to originate in our brain.
In other things, those pertaining to this temporal life, you may glory in what You know, you may advance the teachings of reason, you may invent ideas of your own; for example: how to make shoes or clothes, how to govern a household, how to manage a herd. In such things exercise your mind to the best of your ability.
Cloth or leather of this sort will permit itself to be stretched and cut according to the good pleasure of the tailor or shoemaker.
But in spiritual matters, human reasoning certainly is not in order; other intelligence, other skill and power, are requisite here-- something to be granted by God himself and revealed through his Word. Luther Law and Gospel
This the meaning of LUTHER'S FAITH ONLY: we cannot save ourselves so we must trust in faith. But, to Luther this demanded faith in Baptism because it was a clear command of Christ.
The "common sense" school claims that we can IMPROVISE or INNOVATE while men like John Locke insisted that we SPEAK WHERE THE BIBLE SPEAKS.
The NEW STYLE WORSHIP gives itself permission to IMPROVISE and INNOVATE and that is why so much hate is poured out on those PRIMITIVES who trust the Word of Christ.
A MARK of a modern "scholar" is that they have usually agreed to use the HEGELIN DIALECTIC. This begins by demeaning the opponents views and, re: postmodernism, driving them into schizophrenia. Their only hope is to repudiate the old traditions and join with the NEW TRADITIONS.
Was the weekly Lord's supper derived from traditions? No, the church of Christ went back to the Bible for this practice. It had no TRADITIONS to draw from except a unique reading of the Bible.
Was baptism FOR the remission of sins based on human traditions. No. This was the Biblical direct command and the universal belief until Zwingli in 1525 claimed to invent the concept of FAITH ONLY which no one before him believed. Therefore, the church of Christ had to leap frog denominational traditions and began to practice based on their understanding of the Bible. They had to do this in the face of clear threats from their Baptist church members.
Was NOT using instrumental music based on traditionalism? No, it was not. In fact, none of the major groups which flocked into the church of Christ had ever used instruments of music. Nor is there any historical precedent except the Catholic church which added instruments because they were "common to all pagan cults."
The appeal is to Hegel and postmodernism which has not ethics to prevent them from lying and making false accusations. That is to convince you that if YOU don't "sing and dance" while the pagan clergy "pipes" this warns you that you will be MARKED as sowing discord.
In appealing to Martin Luther for THEIR dogma of salvation by faith only an rejecting the Bible as authority for faith and practice, they prove that they have never read Martin Luther. The false accusations against Luther looks as if they have a QUOTE BOOK about Luther or believe their professors who taught them without reading Luther.
FAITH ONLY: Doctors of the law are found false witnesses;
But as our would-be wise, new spirits assert that faith alone saves, and that works and external things avail nothing, we answer:
It is true, indeed, that nothing in us is of any avail but faith, as we shall hear still further. But these blind guides are unwilling to see this, namely, that faith must have something which it believes, that is, of which it takes hold, and upon which it stands and rests.
Thus faith clings to the water, and believes that it is Baptism, in which there is pure salvation and life;
not through the water (as we have sufficiently stated), but through the fact that it is embodied in the Word and institution of God, and the name of God inheres in it.
BAPTISM for the PURPOSE of remission of sins: Bearing false witness. Read Martin Luther to protect yourself against false teachers.
"In these words you must note, in the first place, that here stand God's commandment and institution, lest we doubt that Baptism is divine, not devised nor invented by men. For as truly as I can say, No man has spun the Ten Commandments, the Creed, and the Lord's Prayer out of his head, but they are revealed and given by God Himself,so also I can boast that Baptism is no human trifle, but instituted by God Himself, moreover, that it is most solemnly and strictly commanded that we must be baptized or we cannot be saved, lest any one regard it as a trifling matter, like putting on a new red coat.
For it is of the greatest importance that we esteem Baptism excellent, glorious, and exalted, for which we contend and fight chiefly,
because the world is now so full of sects clamoring that Baptism is an external thing, and that external things are of no benefit.
This was the beginning of Zwinglian, Baptist or Pagan baptism.
But let it be ever so much an external thing here stand God's Word and command which institute, establish, and confirm Baptism.
But what God institutes and commands cannot be a vain, but must be a most precious thing, though in appearance it were of less value than a straw. If hitherto people could consider it a great thing when the Pope with his letters and bulls dispensed indulgences and confirmed altars and churches, solely because of the letters and seals,
we ought to esteem Baptism much more highly and more precious, because God has commanded it, and, besides, it is performed in His name. For these are the words, Go ye baptize; however, not in your name, but in the name of God. (Jesus Christ and Peter commanded it)
Tertullian: Chapter I.-Introduction. Origin of the Treatise.
Happy is our sacrament Of water, in that, by washing away the sins of our early blindness, we are set free and admitted into eternal life!
A treatise on this matter will not be superfluous; instructing not only such as are just becoming formed (in the faith),
but them who, content with having simply believed, without full examination of the grounds of the traditions, carry (in mind), through ignorance, an untried though probable faith. The consequence is, that a viper of the Cainite heresy, lately conversant in this quarter, has carried away a great number with her most venomous doctrine, making it her first aim to destroy baptism.
The claim that Luther rejected the New Testament as the sole PATTERN for faith and practice in the church.
"For Luther, the divine Word was spoken supremely in the person of Jesus Christ, not in a mere book" (p. 116).
Well, who could agree that the Word is in a MERE BOOK? But, Hughes undoubtedly picked up the quote from another "scholarly" book who picked up the quote from someone. But, it shows true historylessness.
But Martin Luther Contradicts: 62. God permits the worshiper of saints [or theatrical performers] at times to receive help and perform wonders; yet, he does so through the agency of the devil. For it is God who gives to the servants of Satan their bodies and lives, their possessions and honor, and this he does through the agency of Satan.
This is plainly evident; like a rich prince may give a treasure to one knave through another knave. Hence we are not to build upon miraculous signs nor upon the example of the multitude,
but alone upon the teachings of Christ, or of his apostles, in this and all cases.
63. Now, while Christ is our common blessing, as before said,
we should at the same time ascribe all to the Father;
for Christ is the Father's gracious manifestation whereby our hearts are drawn to himself. So we should confidently love and praise the Father for his lavish blessings.
With such exercise our hearts will learn to comfort themselves in him and to look to him for every blessing in life or death; [54] but this through Christ and not through merit in ourselves.
Christ was given that by him we might thus confidently approach the Father. John 14, 6 declares: "No one cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Indeed, where God does not grant them, the Scripture is neglected and human doctrine sought, as in the case of condemned popery. But where he grants grace to search the Scriptures first, he gives likewise patience and consolation.
There is no more marked manifestation of God's wrath than the fact that he permits the decline of his spoken and written Word;
so not undesignedly the apostle uses the particular language of this prayer. On the other hand,
God gives no greater blessing than when he exalts his Word among us and permits it to be read. Truly, then, we should all repeat this prayer with the apostle. This is God's MARK or sign of a strong delusion that people believe a lie and be damned.
5. Inasmuch as his activity among them is his testimonial, and they themselves are aware that through his ministerial office he has constituted them a church,
he calls them an epistle written by himself; not with ink and in paragraphs, not on paper or wood, nor engraved upon hard rock as the Ten Commandments written upon tables of stone, which Moses placed before the people, but written by the Holy Spirit upon fleshly tables--hearts of tender flesh.
The Spirit is the ink or the inscription, yes, even the writer himself;
but the pencil or pen and the hand of the writer is the ministry of Paul.As Hebrews 6 clearly tells us: to fall away from the once-believed Word is the unforgivable sin. The SPIRIT that latter day prophets, according to Luther, is the spirit of Satan.
6. This figure of a written epistle is, however, in accord with Scripture usage. Moses commands (Deut 6:6-9; 11, 18) that the Israelites write the Ten Commandments in all places where they walked or stood upon the posts of their houses,
and upon their gates, and ever have them before their eyes and in their hearts.
Again (Prov 7:2-3), Solomon [PAGE 226] says: "Keep my commandments and...my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers; write them upon the tablet of thy heart."29. So, however much is written about Christ, it is not for his sake; he had no need for it.
........... It is recorded for our instruction. The record of Christ's words and deeds is for our edification, the model (pattern?) for us to follow. It is with this same understanding Paul says in First Corinthians 9, 9:
"For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn." Do you suppose God's care is for the ox, or is not the verse written for our sakes? Surely for our sakes. As if the apostle had said:
"God's care is not for the ox but for us."
Not that God does not govern and provide for all creatures, but that he does not write and speak for them. What should he write and speak to oxen? Only to man does he speak.
So here; although the words are about Christ, they are not directed to him but to us, for our learning: we, too, are to conduct ourselves as the Scriptures tell us Christ and his saints have done.
30. Mark the book the apostle here presents for the perusal and study of Christians-- none other than the holy Scriptures. And he tells us it contains doctrine for us.
Now if our doctrine is to be found in the Bible, we certainly should not seek it elsewhere; all Christians should make daily use of this book.
31. Observe, however, what the devil has accomplished through the Papists. It was not enough for them to throw the Bible under the table, to make it so rare
that few doctors of the holy Scriptures possess a copy, much less read it;
but lest it be brought to public notice they have branded it with infamy. For they blasphemously say it is obscure; we must follow the interpretations of men and not the pure Scriptures. What else is their proceeding but giving Paul the lie here where he says
the Bible is our manual of instruction?
They say it is obscure and calculated to mislead.
"For Luther the Bible functioned much like a window in a house...It is possible...to so focus on the window that one fails to see beyond it..." (p. 116).
I believe that is Edward Fudge who claims for the team that we should SEE BEYOND THE SACRED PAGE. We doubt that there is any evidence that Luther wanted to SEE BEYOND the Bible for faith and practice.
We don't know where that came from but Luther did say;
I can soon judge and say whether their doctrine is of God or of man; for I am doing the will of God, who sent Christ. I have given ear to none but God's Word, and say:
'Dear Lord Christ, I want to be thy pupil, and I believe thy Word. I will close my eyes and surrender to thy Word.'
We sincerely doubt that since Luther claims that ONLY by looking at the Bible can we see. Peter claimed that. With enough EDUCATION beyond one's ability, it is possible to look at the window and see YOURSELF.
For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 2 Pet 1:16
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 2 Pet 1:17
And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 2 Pet 1:18
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Pet 1:19
Peter also showed why one should GIVE HEED to the Words of Christ because GIVING HEED is the primary worship word:
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 1 Pet 1:11
And Jesus Christ claimed that:
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
To deny the WRITTEN WORD as once validated by the LIVING WORD is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost Whose name is Jesus Christ!
"When Luther proclaimed 'scripture alone' he always was proclaiming 'Christ alone'" (p. 116).
What can we say? Luther clearly knew that CHRIST ALONE is capable of saving us. However, Luther absolutely insisted that we know Christ Alone only through SCRIPTURE ALONE.
Another fundamental aspect of Luther's theology is his understanding of God. In rejecting much of scholastic thought Luther rejected the scholastic belief in continuity between revelation and perception.
Luther notes that revelation must be indirect and concealed.
That is, there is nothing about the POSTMODERN view of scholars which can be used as a perception which they equate to REVELATION.
Luther's theology is based in the Word of God (thus his phrase sola scriptura scripture alone) it is based not in speculation or philosophical principles, but in revelation.
If one begins with philosophical categories for God one begins with the attributes of God: i.e., omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, impassible, etc. For Luther, it was impossible to begin there and by using syllogisms or other logical means to end up with a God who suffers on the cross on behalf of humanity. It simply does not work. The God revealed in and through the cross is not the God of philosophy but the God of revelation. Only faith can understand and appreciate this, logic and reason to quote St. Paul become a stumbling block to belief instead of a helpmate. From Source
"But over time, Luther shed the assumption that a transgression against the authority of the Church implied such against the Word, and visa versa.
For Luther, Sola Scriptura would become the guiding and primary principle of his reformation.
Luther's first break with the Roman Church came during the Leipzig Debate (July 1519) in which he declared agreement with John Hus, who had been condemned 100 years earlier by the Council of Constance.
By rejecting the authority of such councils, Luther had prepared the way for his applications of the sole authority of Scripture.
Luther found in Galatians 1:8 that no created being is greater than the Word of God, neither Paul, nor angels, nor any other man. This, therefore, would also include the pope himself, who claimed to be the sole interpreter and arbiter of the Word. Luther viewed the papal claim as, "the accursed lie that the pope is the arbiter of Scripture or that the Church has authority over Scripture." (Luther's Works 26.57; Q. in Wood, 123)
Our writers must subscribe to the HIGH CHURCH POSITION of the Christian Church which gives itself authority to CHANGE as the culture demands. They describe those who agree with Luther (and who disagree with our scholars) as CULTS.
Luther elsewhere wrote, "The pope boasts that the Christian Church is above the Word of God. No, this is not true! We must be pupils and not aspire to be masters, for the pupil must not be above his master." (LW. 23.231; Q. in Ibid.) Also, "Years ago all the pope's pronouncements were called Christian truth and articles of faith, yet this was simply based on man.
And then it happened that people sank into the abyss and lost everything that pertains to the Word of God and Christ. Therefore, we must now declare: 'Pope, council, and doctors, we will not believe you;
........... but we will believe in the Divine Word." (LW. 23.297; Q. in Ibid.)Luther continually exhorted his listeners and readers to elevate Scripture to the point of becoming a guide for living.
"Among Christians the rule is not to argue or investigate, not to be a smart aleck or a rationalistic know-it-all; but to hear, believe, and persevere in the Word of God,
through which alone we obtain whatever knowledge we have of God and divine things.
We are not to determine out of ourselves what we must believe about him, but to hear and learn it from him." (LW. 13.237; Q. in Wood, 120)Scripture is the rule of life for the Church. Scripture allows even the most insignificant of men to discern between truth and error:
"A Christian soon smells from afar which is God's and which is human teaching. He sees from afar that the schismatic spirits are speaking their own human mind and opinion. They cannot escape me, Dr. Luther.
I can soon judge and say whether their doctrine is of God or of man; for I am doing the will of God, who sent Christ.
I have given ear to none but God's Word, and say:
'Dear Lord Christ, I want to be thy pupil, and I believe thy Word. I will close my eyes and surrender to thy Word.'Thus He makes me a free nobleman, yes, a fine doctor and teacher, who is captive to the Word of God, and is able to judge the errors and the faith of the pope, Turks, Jews and Sacramentarians. They must fall, and I tread them underfoot. I have become a doctor and a judge who judges correctly." (LW. 23.230; Q. in Wood, 121) For Luther, therefore,
........... Scripture became the cornerstone of all knowledge of God.
........... The Word provided the sole foundation for both individuals and institutionalized Church."When I was a monk, I was an adept at allegory. I allegorized everything. But after lecturing on the Epistle to the Romans, I came to have some knowledge of Christ. For therein I saw that Christ is no allegory, and learned to know what Christ was." (Q. in Wood, 165)
Luther claims that he learned NOTHING by looking beyond the window of the Bible or BEYOND THE SACRED PAGE.
"Luther could point to, "an inner canon of Scripture..a 'canon within a canon' consisting of those writings that most clearly reveal Christ"
I am quite sure that Martin Luther NEVER said anything like that.
It is a fact that everyone was evolving their views of which books of the Bible had original autographs behind them. He rejects Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation, although he does say they are "fine" books. Luther said of James that it "flatly against St. Paul and all the rest of Scripture."
However, Luther is NO HELP on the idea of FAITH ONLY because he clearly repudiated it. He understood, however, that FAITH needed no HUMAN WORKS OF MERIT to make it effective. Therefore, just as among the Restoration Movement, Luther rejected the ida that Baptism was an act of WORKS but the act of FAITH.
"Luther makes religious sentiment the deciding point in whether a book is to be studied or whether it defines true doctrine.
"Finally, let everyone think of it as his own spirit gives him to think. My spirit cannot fit itself into this book. There is one sufficient reason for me not to think highly of it, -- Christ is not taught or known in it; but to teach Christ is the thing which an apostle is bound, above all else, to do, as He says in Acts 1, 'Ye shall be my witnesses.'
Therefore I stick to the books which give me Christ, clearly and purely. (Works of Martin Luther, Philadelphia: Muhlenberg Press, 1932, copyrighted by the United Lutheran Church in America, vol. 6. pp. 488-489 ., tr. C.M. Jacobs)
Catholics hate him because it was the CHURCH which defined the canon. Perhaps now it is the UNIVERSITIES who determine canon.
But, aren't we extremely lucky! None of the books which Luther questioned are needed to support the inspired teachings against instrumental music or other "anxiety creating" ritual, Faith Only as faith in the revealed Word (without doctoring it with rationally explaining it) and Baptism for or in order to the remission of sins.
Based on what Luther says about SCRIPTURE ONLY we do not believe that Luther was a mind reader and believed in A CANON WITHIN A CANON hundreds of years before unbelievers began to pare down the APPLE to its bare core. Luther assuredly did not believe that the Old Testament was a Christian's authority for faith and practice.
"For Luther insisted...that there is great danger in looking to external forms and patterns, for one is tempted to think that in restoring outward forms alone one has restored the essence. For Luther, the outward forms constitute only an empty shell" (117).
Luther did not say any such thing about the patterns of the Bible. He was speaking of the external patterns of Popery including INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC.
HERE IS THE RESTORATION PATTERN BY LUTHER
16. Now, Paul's thought here is that nothing should be taught and practiced in the Church
........... but what is unquestionably God's Word. That is a PATTERN which repudiates the doctor's PARADIGM.
It will not do to introduce or perform anything whatever
upon the strength of man's judgment. Man's achievements, man's reasoning and power, are of no avail save in so far as they come from God.
As Peter says in his first epistle (ch. 4:11): "If any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth."
Since baptism was part of the PATTERN he preached baptism.
Since FAITH ONLY was repudiated by the Bible it was not part of any PATTERN which was sane.
Since instrumental music has no Biblical authority, his PATTERN repudiated instruments.
The PATTERN was that NOTHING was optional or could be IMPROVISED unless it had Biblical authority.
That means "Speak where the Bible Speaks and be Silent where the Bible is Silent." But that motto is much older than Luther.
LUTHER TAUGHT THE RESTORATION PATTERN OF BAPTISM IN ORDER TO FORGIVENESS among those who did not see it as important:
In the second place, since we know now what Baptism is, and how it is to be regarded, we must also learn why and for what purpose it is instituted; that is, what it profits, gives and works. And this also we cannot discern better than from the words of Christ above quoted:
........... He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. Therefore state it most simply thus, that the power, work, profit, fruit, and end of Baptism is this, namely, to save. For no one is baptized in order that he may become a prince, but, as the words declare,
........... that he be saved. But to be saved, we know, is nothing else than to be delivered from sin, death, and the devil, and to enter into the kingdom of Christ, and to live with Him forever. Baptism by Luther
"All the external marks and structures were expendable in restoring and preserving this gospel, the living Word" (p. 117).
No, that is absolutely untrue. The gospel was recorded in the written Word. The external marks were those IMPOSED by the Catholics. They were expendable totally and COULD NOT be reformed. These included things like instrumental music!
Wherefore, most excellent Leo, I beseech you to accept my vindication, made in this letter, and to persuade yourself that I have never thought any evil concerning your person; further, that I am one who desires that eternal blessing may fall to your lot, and that I have no dispute with any man concerning morals, but only concerning the word of truth.
In all other things I will yield to any one,
........... but I neither can nor will forsake and deny the Word.He who thinks otherwise of me or has taken in my words in another sense, does not think rightly, and has not taken in the truth. Luther on Freedom
LUTHER DID NOT EXPEND THE WRITTEN WORD
Luther would consider doctors of the law expendable: And, to cast everything aside, even speculations, meditations and whatever things can be performed by the exertions of the soul itself, are of no profit.
Luther would not consider as expendable the WRITTEN WORD.
One thing, and one alone, is necessary for life, justification, and Christian liberty;
........... and that is the most holy word of God, the Gospel of Christ,as He says [in the Written Word]: "I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me shall not die eternally " (John xi. 25) ; and also (John viii. 36) "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed;" and (Matt. iv. 4),
"Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Luther on FreedomNeither Luther nor our scholars know a jot or tittle which has not been written and preserved.
THE PRESENT FAMINE OF HEARING THE WORD BECAUSE OF MUSIC IS GOD POURING OUT HIS WRATH.
Again, there is no more cruel stroke of the wrath of God than when He sends a famine of hearing His words (Amos viii. 11);
just as there is no greater favour from Him than the sending forth of His word, as it is said: "He sent his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions." (Ps. cvii. 20.)
Christ was sent for no other office than that of the word,
and the order of apostles, that of bishops, and that of the whole body of the clergy, have been called and instituted
for no object but the ministry of the word. That excludes all EXTERNAL thing rather than INCLUDES external things. Those who add music focus on the EXTERNAL THINGS and silence the internal things of the spirit or mind.
But you will ask:--"What is this word, and by what means is it to be used, since there are so many words of God?"
I answer, the Apostle Paul (Rom. i.) explains what it is, namely, the Gospel of God, concerning His Son, incarnate, suffering, risen, and glorified through the Spirit, the sanctifier. To preach Christ is to feed the soul, to justify it, to set it free, and to save it, if it believes the preaching.
For faith alone, [107] and the efficacious use of the word of God, bring salvation. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Rom. x. 9.) And again: "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth" (Rom. x. 4); and "The just shall live by faith." (Rom. i. 17.)
For the word of God cannot be received and honoured by any works, but by faith alone.
Hence it is clear that, as the soul needs the word alone for life and justification, so it is justified by faith alone and not by any works.
For if it could be justified by any other means, it would have no need of the word, nor consequently of faith.
The modern HERETICAL MOVEMENT among the scholars repudiates Martin Luther by claiming that the Bible is no longer credible for faith and practices. Only seven facts ABOUT Jesus Christ: none of Christ's teachings except as NARRATED to fit my needs.
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
Therefore, the modern FAITH ONLY repudiates Luther's views by having NO FAITH in the WORD ALONE which must be accepted by FAITH ALONE without the WORKS of human, faith- denying theology. You cannot be a true theologian and have FAITH ONLY in the WORD ONLY which saves by BAPTISM which is based on FAITH ONLY in the direct command of Jesus Christ in the WORD ONLY. Get that?
Are you listening "among the scholars?" The WORD ALONE accepted by FAITH ALONE is the meaning of being justified BY FAITH ALONE rather than perform WORKS to produce the faith? Did you hear? Can you grasp this faith alone?
This would repudiate ALL modern forms of SEEKER RELIGIONS which hallucinates that it can instill faith BY WORKS such as the use of MUSIC, DRAMA or pointing the seeker to the MUSICAL WORSHIP TEAM which Willow Creeks says are OUR PICTURES of what a Christian could be: an idol.
The Word of Christ was the Word of his apostles:
This is plainly evident; like a rich prince may give a treasure to one knave through another knave.
Hence we are not to build upon miraculous signs nor upon the example of the multitude, but alone upon the teachings of Christ, or of his apostles, in this and all cases.Luther has just said that FAITH ALONE is that which is revealed by God through His Written Word. Jesus said:
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
LUTHER DENOUNCED THE USE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND EXTERNAL THINGS.
What was not expendable:
"That with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."
52. All the good we can do to God is to praise and to thank him. This is the only true service we can render him, according to his words in Psalm 50, 23:
"Whoso offereth the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifieth me; and to him that ordereth his way aright will I show the salvation of God." We receive all blessings from him, in return for which we should make the offering of praise.
If anything else purporting to be service to God is presented for your consideration rest assured it is erroneous and delusive.
What was expendable:
For instance, the distracted world attempts to serve God by setting apart houses, churches, cloisters; vestures, gold-trimmed, silk and [50] every other kind;
silver vessels and images; bells and organs, candles and lamps;
the money for which expense should have been appropriated to the poor if the object was to make an offering to God.Further, it keeps up a muttering and wailing in the churches day and night.
But true praise and honor of God, a service that cannot be confined to place or person, is quietly ignored the world over.
The pretenses of priests and monks about their system of exercises being service to the Lord, are false and delusive. Luther on Romans 15
See Erasmus on the PRETENSE of ACU trained priests and preachers.
"Luther therefore did not look for the restoration of a church that had been entirely lost, but rather for the reformation of a church that had been seriously corrupted " (p. 117).
No, he was NOT interested in REFORMING a church wholly lost or we would call him a Catholic. He and Calvin were interested in RESTORING the public worship based solely on the Bible which did come out of the first century. There was no public by and for the people worship.
What no doctor of the Law or musical discorder can grasp is that not even the Catholics "worshipped" with "congregational singing and instrumental accompaniment." That would have been a sin. Rather, the organ did preludes, interludes, processionals and recessionals. The organ was more of a pitch pipe for the CLERGY PRECENTOR which excluded congregational singing and was "one of the first heresies largely pervading the church."
By 1501: "By re-introducing public worship, the reformers displaced virtually overnight a thousand years of high church ritual.
When you DISPLACE something you do not REFORM IT. By DISPLACING the sin of the organ Luther RESTORED the vocal praise commanded in the Bible. He was not establishing an anti-instrument TRADITIONAL PATTERNISM.
The Reformation fathers condemned the Gregorian Chant for some very telling reasons, revealing along the way their own evolving concepts of music.
They objected to the distractions of elaborate vocal and instrumental music,
the dangers of overly theatrical performances,
the unwarranted expense of elaborate ceremonies and enormous pipe organs and the uselessness of text unintelligible to the common man."Contrasting the high church's entrenched musical traditions was the simple and pragmatic approach of men like Martin Luther. One of Luther's stated goals was the restoration of true worship.
He understood the tremendous benefit resulting from hearing the word of God and then uniting as a congregation to offer thanksgiving in song.
This RESTORED the teaching of Paul about singing which has no MUSICAL meaning.
This stress on congregational participation in worship became a lynchpin of the Reformation. In 1523, Thomas Muntzer was the first to replace the clerical choir with congregational singing, using virtually the same music.
He translated the text into the vernacular--a true beginning of the restoration of biblical psalm singing among the people. Chuck From ........Our Article
"Luther's view of the hiddenness of the true church led him to reject and warn against the mere imitation of biblical examples and patterns" (p. 118).
Both Luther and Calvin used the word REFORMATION in exactly the same way the Campbells and others used the word RESTORATION.
16. Now, Paul's thought here is that nothing should be taught and practiced in the Church
but what is unquestionably God's Word.
It will not do to introduce or perform anything whateverupon the strength of man's judgment. Man's achievements, man's reasoning and power, are of no avail save in so far as they come from God.
As Peter says in his first epistle (ch. 4:11): "If any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth."
[Paul said that elders must "teach that which has been taught" and "refute those who oppose. Modern preachers do not do that. Therefore, they are false preachers. If one has the talent of speaking and singing then he can use those talents elsewhere but not in the assembly.]
In short, let him who would be wise, who would boast of great skill, talents and power, confine himself to things other than spiritual;
with respect to spiritual matters, let him keep his place and [PAGE 230] refrain from boasting and pretense. For it is of no moment that men observe your greatness and ability; the important thing is that poor souls may rest assured of being presented with God's Word and works, whereby they may be saved. Luther Law and Gospel
"The first task of church renewal, Luther believed, was not restoration of biblical patterns, but rather restoration of the gospel message of divine grace, the recovery of the living Word (i.e. Jesus) through which faith was stirred up and through which believers received forgiveness.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God or inspiration has failed.
But the gospel message of grace which Luther believed was a result of FAITH ONLY meant what one heard from the Word of God which produces faith. The word of God included baptism and the repudiation of INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC which prevented the hearing of the gospel. Therefore, FAITH ONLY revealed to Luther that FAITH must have an object and Baptism was that object.
The Living Word to Martin Luther had no other resource than the REVEALED WORDS of the Living Word. Luther identified those who sought truth BEYOND THE SACRED PAGE as possessed by the spirit of the Devil.
Martin Luther Contradicts: 62.
Hence we are not to build upon miraculous signs nor upon the example of the multitude, but alone upon the teachings of Christ, or of his apostles, in this and all cases.
35. But how shall I express the situation? The calamity is beyond the power of words, even inconceivable.
The evil spirit has accomplished his design; he has suppressed the Book
and introduced in its stead so many books of human doctrine that we may well say we are deluged with them.
Yet these contain only error, falsehood, darkness, venom, death, destruction, hell and the devil. This condition of things our abominable ingratitude has merited.
Luther discussing Romans 15 which denounces music or "that which pleases" or any human innovation.
The good doctors of the Law have been tricked by Luther's FAITH ONLY. Not only that but the LIVING WORD produces FAITH and faith produces FORGIVENESS.
But as our would-be wise, new spirits assert that faith alone saves, and that works and external things avail nothing, we answer:
It is true, indeed, that nothing in us is of any avail but faith, as we shall hear still further.
But these blind guides are unwilling to see this, namely,that faith must have something which it believes, that is, of which it takes hold, and upon which it stands and rests.Thus faith clings to the water, and believes that it is Baptism, in which there is pure salvation and life;
not through the water (as we have sufficiently stated), but through the fact that it is embodied in the Word and institution of God, and the name of God inheres in it.
Luther also insisted that the Holy Spirit does not operate outside of the Word. No one but fanatics down through history ever taught that God speaks OUTSIDE of His Word. By accusing the Campbells with INVENTING this sectarian heresy from profane history is just a bunch of lies and from the Devil "who speaks on his own."
7. Note further, that it is his ministry to which Paul ascribes the preparation of their heart thereon and the inscription which constitutes them "living epistles of Christ."
He contrasts his ministry with the blind fancies of those fanatics who seek to receive, and dream of having,
........... the Holy Spirit without the oral word;
........... who, perchance, creep into a corner and grasp the Spirit through dreams,
........... directing the people away from the preached Word and visible ministry. Those "crowned masters of the liberal arts and doctors of the holy Scriptures" say: "All the external marks and structures were expendable in restoring and preserving this gospel, the living Word" (p. 117)
But Doctor Martin Luther says:
But Paul says that the Spirit, through his preaching, has wrought in the hearts of his Corinthians,
........... to the end that Christ lives and is mighty in them. After such statement he bursts into praise of the ministerial office, comparing the message, or preaching, of Moses with that of himself and the apostles. He says:
"Such confidence have we through Christ to Godward: not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God. Luther Law and Gospel
THOSE WHO IMPROVISE AND INNOVATE TO MEET THE NEEDS REPUDIATE FAITH IN A SUFFICIENT GOD.
8. These words are blows and thrusts for the false apostles [PAGE 227] and preachers. Paul is mortal enemy to the blockheads who make great boast,
pretending to what they do not possess and to what they cannot do;
who boast of having the Spirit in great measure; who are ready to counsel and aid the whole world;
who pride themselves on the ability to invent something new. It is to be a surpassingly precious and heavenly thing they are to spin out of their heads, as the dreams of pope and monks have been in time past.See how Carroll D. Osburn plans to prove Luther wrong.
"We do not so," says Paul. "We rely not upon ourselves or our wisdom and ability. We preach not what we have ourselves invented. But this is our boast and trust in Christ before God,
........... that we have made of you a divine epistle; have written upon your hearts,
........... not our thoughts, but the Word of God. Luther Law and Gospel
Fixation on biblical forms and patterns he believed, too easily obscured the centrality of grace and faith" (p. 118).
Just fabricated. Total historylessness
32. How was God to reward such blasphemers and criminal destroyers of the Scriptures? Had he consulted with me about the matter, I would have entreated him-- since [42] they cast reproach upon his clear word, declaring it obscure and unsafe, and exclude it from the sight and knowledge of men, throwing it under the table--to give them in its stead Aristotle and Averrois, along with the endless statutes and fallacies of the Pope;
to let them rave after these, studying Aristotle all the days of their lives and learning nothing; and yet to permit the dolts to be crowned masters of the liberal arts
and doctors of the holy Scriptures. Luther Romans 15We have liberties to make dress patterns or shoe patterns but we DO NOT have liberty to make our own Scripture patterns. Since the good doctors practice their own PATTERNISM which includes pagan instrumental music, Luther condemns them and would NEVER fellowship their legalistic patternism NOT based on faith which comes only from the Word of God.
12. Now, we know ourselves to be of the same clay whereof they are made; indeed, we perhaps have the greater call from God: yet we cannot boast of being capable of ourselves to advise or aid men. We cannot even originate an idea calculated to give help.
Here is a Luther Pattern which was one of his CORE teachings:
And when it comes to the knowledge of how one may stand before God and attain to eternal life, that is truly not to be achieved by our work or power, nor to originate in our brain.
In other things, those pertaining to this temporal life, you may glory in what You know, you may advance the teachings of reason, you may invent ideas of your own;
for example: how to make shoes or clothes, how to govern a household, how to manage a herd. In such things exercise your mind to the best of your ability.
Cloth or leather of this sort will permit itself to be stretched and cut according to the good pleasure of the tailor or shoemaker.
But in spiritual matters, human reasoning certainly is not in order; other intelligence, other skill and power, are requisite here--
something to be granted by God himself and revealed through his Word. Luther Law and Gospel
I would say that Luther ENDORSED the patterns of the Bible and OUTLAWED any pattern not granted through the revealed Word--that means the WRITTEN word.
John Locke and the churches of Christ did not FOLLOW REASONING but the inspired word of God and their ability to read black text on white paper.
"Luther saw serious dangers in the imitation of biblical models" (p. 119).
First look at the Credo of ACU:
Carroll D. Osburn: On pages 14-15: "With so many questions flying around and so much uncertainty being expressed in various quarters, what an opportunity for the various faculties of our Christian colleges and universities to help shape the future! These are the best of times to be involved in Christian education! If we are to have a truly significant impact upon the national and international scene,
faculties of religion must play leading prophetic roles in channeling and facilitating whatever changes loom ahead.
This sounds like Zwingli: All doctors of the law came before me are thieves and liars.
HERE IS LUTHER PATTERNISM WHICH IS EXACTLY CHURCH OF CHRIST PATTERNISM WHICH THE GOOD DOCTORS OF THE LAW ATTRIBUTE TO TRADITIONALISM. Isn't it passingly strange that Jesus fired the Doctors of the Law because "They take away the key to knowledge." Probably don't read much JESUS at ACU.
16. Now, Paul's thought here is that nothing should be taught and practiced in the Church
........... but what is unquestionably God's Word.It will not do to introduce or perform anything whatever
upon the strength of man's judgment. Man's achievements, man's reasoning and power, are of no avail save in so far as they come from God.
As Peter says in his first epistle (ch. 4:11):
"If any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God;
if any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth." Luther Law and GospelThe PATTERNISM and direct command of Jesus and Paul was to "teach that which is written." That is especially made clear in the "singing" passages which DO NOT speak of music but teaching. The pattern would be to "Speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent."
However, if you have the talent of FICTION then you should use that and leave the Word of God alone.
If one speaks Paul told the elders, one must "teach that which has been taught." However, one can minister in many different ways according to their gift or talent.
It has been the practice in the Church for anyone to introduce any teaching he saw fit; for example, the monks and priests have daily produced new saints, pilgrimages, special prayers, works and sacrifices in the effort to blot out sin, redeem souls from purgatory, and so on.
They who make up things of this kind are not such as put their trust in God through Christ,
but rather such as defy God and Christ. Into the hearts of men, where Christ alone should be, they shove the filth and write the lies of the devil.
Yet they think themselves, and themselves only, qualified for all essential teaching and work, self-grown doctors that they are, saints all-powerful without the help of God and Christ.
........... "But our sufficiency is from God." Luther Law and GospelLuther, therefore, commands Biblical PATTERNS and condemns OTHER PATTERNS.
Those who promote instrumental music make it up out of their head and DEFY God and Christ and shove the filth and write the lies of the devil. Jesus said it: "You are sons of your father the Devil because YOU SPEAK ON YOUR OWN."
Carroll D. Osburn:"For Luther the early age of the church was not an ideal age to which those in the present must return" (p. 121).
No, Luther never said that: Hughes "thinks" that is what Luther SHOULD have said. However, Luther specificially demands that we return to the Biblical patttern. The Restoration Movement said nothing about a Corinth being a pattern for the church. Rather, like all students of history he and the Restorationists said that we should restore the BIBLE and the only creed fof faith and practice.
No one attempts to restore the Corinthian church or any Biblical church. These were models used by Paul and others to more clearly define THROUGH THE WORD what an ideal church should be. The Restoration claim it to restore the Bible as the only resource for faith and practice. It has never claimed to be perfect but you must begin with a sound Biblical basis.
Thomas Campbell thought of restoring the SYNAGOGUE OF CHRIST which had no real PATTERNISM other than the Lord's Supper and A SCHOOL OF CHRIST. The ekklesia Jesus promised to build which has been hidden in the wilderness ever since was A SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE.
34. Now, let us return to Paul. He tells us here what we should read and where we should seek our doctrine. Were there any other book he would have designated it. Further, he shows the nature of the fruit resulting from perusal of the Bible; for he says,
"That through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope."
Now let all other doctrine present itself, let all other books be introduced, and see if they have any virtue or power to comfort a single soul in its least tribulation. Truly, no comfort but that of God's word is possible to the soul. But where will we find God's word except in the Scriptures? What do we accomplish by reading other books to the exclusion of the [43] Book? Other books may have power to slay us, indeed, but no book except the holy Scriptures has power to comfort us. Luther Romans 15.Nothing beyond the Sacred Page!
Carroll D. Osburn: "Luther viewed the effort to restore the patterns and traditions of primitive Christianity s fundamentally at odds with the gospel" (p. 119),"Such Restorationism, Luther believed, placed human effort above God's grace and was therefore the worst sort of idolatry" (p. 120).
One doubts that Luther ever said that. We have noted that other quotes are proven to be taken out of Luther context.
No one wants to restore the patterns and traditions of primitive Christianity. Many of the epistles were written to correct the problems in the churches being founded. However, if Corinth has a problem "speaking in tongues" then Paul wrote SCRIPTURE to give us the correction.
FAITH ONLY was the way to see SCRIPTURE ONLY for faith and doctrine. Human effort includes everything but SIMPLE PRAISE.
Here is the PATTERNISM on some things which Luther RESTORED.
For instance, the distracted world attempts to serve God by setting apart houses, churches, cloisters; vestures, gold-trimmed, silk and [50] every other kind;
silver vessels and images; bells and organs, candles and lamps;
the money for which expense should have been appropriated to the poor
if the object was to make an offering to God.Further, it keeps up a muttering and wailing in the churches day and night.
But true praise and honor of God, a service that cannot be confined to place or person, is quietly ignored the world over.
The pretenses of priests and monks about their system of exercises being service to the Lord, are false and delusive.
53. Service to God is praise of him. It must be free and voluntary, at table, in the chamber, cellar, garret, in house or field, in all places, with all persons, at all times.
Whosoever teaches otherwise is no less guilty of falsehood than the Pope and the devil himself. Luther Romans 15
The effort "among the scholars" is what Martin Luther would call A FALSEHOOD WORSE THAN THE DEVIL HIMSELF. Notice the connection between what the writer considers paltry issues such as "pinching or snapping" and the Non use of Instrumental. Hegel couldn't have said it better.
Carroll D. Osburn: On page 11 we read: "We must sort out very carefully what is biblical and what is cultural about our religion, and not bind the latter. Divorce and remarriage and women in the church remain unresolved, but such must remain mere issues and not be allowed to shape our emerging identity.Instrumental music will remain an issue,
but it certainly is not deserving of center stage, and never was. There is something grossly distorted about a religion which depends for its cohesiveness upon paltry issues that kill the spirit."
The way to kill the SPIRIT is to take away the key to knowledge by taking away the Biblical resource for preaching and singing "teaching that which had been taught."
These people missed the serpent in Genesis whom scholars know to be a "musical enchanter." As a Lucifer pattern the king/queen of Tyre is called "the singing and harp playing prostitute." The Prophets writing by the Spirit of Christ repudiated the Monarchy and the sacrificial system for which "noise" was used to "force the lambs to be silent before the slaughter."
Jesus cast out the musical minstrels like dung and identified the MEN of that generation as CHILDREN piping, singing and dancing in the marketplace. This points to the weeping for Tammuz in the Jerusalem temple and also to the perverted worship of Dionysus recognized as the "god of the Jews" at the time.
The Book of Revelation identifies the Babylonian mother of harlots in Rev 17, who uses the "lusted after fruits" as speakers, singers and instrument players whom John called sorcerers in Revelation 18.
There is no "music" concept in the worship of God's people ever: it was in 373 that the ACT of singing was imposed upon the church and caused the split between East and West.
These men can find no HISTORY person who does not know the simple Bible fact that musical instruments are always the MARK of those trying to silence God.
The good doctors confuse SPIRIT with ENTHUSIASTIC. But, Philo coined that word and Paul grasped that the charismatic singing out of THEIR OWN SPIRIT was Enthus- O- Mania. That is the Madness in Corinth. It means to "have the demon gods within your literal body driving you insane." Insanity is defined as the charismatic worship being peddled by these men devoid of the SPIRIT of Christ.
But the rejected Bible and Christ has Jesus saying "My words are Spirit and Life." And Paul drew an identity between "that which is written, The Spirit and the Word of Christ" as the ONLY resource suitable to TEACH one another with the singing and melody being the same as singing "with grace in the heart." Paul was so specific that no literate Bible student can find the MUSIC concept ever used in the SYNAGOGUE OF CHRIST.
It is self evident that when they are singing THEIR inspired junk, clapping or playing instruments they do not GIVE HEED to either Christ or HIS Words as Spirit and Life. This is the LUCIFER PRINCIPLE: She was called "the Harp- Playing prostitute" and she BLED OFF worship due only to GIVING HEED to Christ and His Words. It simply cannot be debated: seeing is believing in the performers and not Jesus Christ.
Carroll D. Osburn: "There should be room in the Christian fellowship for those who differ on whether more than one cup in communion is acceptable, whether the communion bread is to be pinched or snapped, whether one can eat in the church building, whether funds can be used from the church treasury to support orphan homes, whether the Lord's Supper must be taken every Sunday, or whether instrumental music is used in worship.
You have to stretch the truth to use PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE to try to bluff people into NOT debating the instrumental music issue. They ALL do this and draw an identity between:
Pinching the Bread and NOT using instrumental Music.
John Calvin and the practice of the Baptists informed Alexander Campbell: why would it trouble false teachers that most if not all Restoration churches obey the Biblical and Historical example. In the Millennial Harbinger Abridged, 1902:
When the scholars appeal to HISTORY they are rejecting the Bible. The writer continues:TESTIMONIALS TO WEEKLY COMMUNION.
Every week, at least, the table of the Lord should be spread for Christian assemblies.--Calvin's Inst., 6, W. C. 17, S. 43, 46.
"The independent churches in England," says the biographer of Dr. Owen, "at the beginning, observed the Lord's supper every first day of the week."
In the Baptist Confession of Faith, published in 1611, is the following article, "That every church ought, according to the example of Christ's disciples, primitive churches, upon every first day of the week, being the Lord's day, to assembly together to pray, prophesy, praise God, and break bread, and perform all other parts of Scriptural communion for the worship of God, and their own mutual edification and the preservation of true religion and piety in the Church."--Crosby's History, Baptists, vol. ii.
When we speak of innovation in the church of Christ, we are not to inquire what was done by our fathers, but what was the order of the church from the beginning? How did Christ Ordain? How did his Apostles conduct? In what state did they leave the churches?
[225] Now, it is notorious, that during the three first centuries of the Christian era, communions were held with a frequency, of which, among us, we have neither example nor resemblance. It is also notorious, that the original frequency of communion declined as carnality and corruption gained ground; and it is no less notorious, that it has been urged as a weighty duty, by the best of men and the best of churches, in the best of times. It is demonstrable, that among the primitive Christians, the celebration of the Supper was a part of the ordinary sanctification of the Lord's day. In this manner did the spirit of ancient piety cherish the memory of a Saviour's love. There was no need of reproof, remonstrance, or entreaty, etc.--Dr. Mason, of New York.John Calvin quoted in the MH: 4.17.43
All this mass of ceremonies being abandoned,
the sacrament might be celebrated in the most becoming manner,
if it were dispensed to the Church very frequently, at least once a week.
The commencement should be with public prayer; next a sermon should be delivered: then the minister, having placed bread and wine on the table, should read the institution of the Supper. He should next explain the promises which are therein given; and, at the same time, keep back from communion all those who are debarred by the prohibition of the Lord. He should afterwards pray that the Lord, with the kindness with which he has bestowed this sacred food upon us, would also form and instruct us to receive it with faith and gratitude; and, as we are of ourselves unworthy, would make us worthy of the feast by his mercy. Here, either a psalm should be sung, or something read, while the faithful, in order, communicate at the sacred feast, the minister breaking the bread, and giving it to the people. The Supper being ended, an exhortation should be given to sincere faith, and confession of faith, to charity, and lives becoming Christians. Lastly, thanks should be offered, and the praises of God should be sung. This being done, the Church should be dismissed in peace. We never heard of such a SECT and doubt that we ever will. However, beginning in Heaven we hear of Satan drawing away angels and WORSHIP FOR HIMSELF or HERSELF: depending upon whom she was trying to WHOLLY SEDUCE in a sexual sense. She came into the Garden of Eden with wind, string and percussion instruments. She will again go back into Sheol with her music and musicians. Those who presume to be MASTER TEACHERS have to be terminally ignorant or terminally evil to not be aware of this. But, God will "send strong delusions" to those who repudiate His words and substitute THEIR words as the LUCIFER PRINCIPLE. She is also ZOE
Both Luther and Calvin in agreement with history RESTORED the power of the members of the church to TEACH ONE ANOTHER without a DOCTOR from ACU. God wants preachers and teachers trained in the BIBLE to go teach the Bible as it has been taught. Only Satan has any interest in training AGENTS to go out and CHANNEL and FACILITATE CHANGE based on their SENSING what changes need to be made. This, dear fools who love to be fooled, UTTERLY DISMISSES you whom Paul said are "capable of teaching one another."
But, God SENDS STRONG DELUSIONS THROUGH STRONG DELUDERS. But is has often been noted that this small band of pseudo- scholars have gained almost supernatural power (prophesied) but are literary EMPTY SHELLS.
